Very disappointed yet again. Very frustrating to order extra cheese on a pizza, be charged for the extra cheese, and this does not look like extra cheese. There shouldn't be this much sauce exposed. Disappointing. The pan pizza crust was stiff and the sauce lacked flavor. The cheese wasn't creamy enough. Best thing about the pizza was the pepperoni, but even that wasn't competitive with other outlets. The Ceasars Salad had tomatoes in it. Who put tomatoes in a Caesar's salad? River Pizza is a longtime favorite of my family. My parents are from Chicago, and back in the day, anytime we were in Maywood visiting my grandmother we would order from here. Years later, the pizza is just as great, and still comes wrapped in a bag. Some things never change! I came here recently to dine in, a first for me considering I usually ordered takeout. It's a small spot next to a convenience store with a friendly staff. It was nice to bring my boyfriend and a friend so they could see why this is one of my favorite pizza spots. Our waiter was nice and suggested the calamari as an appetizer, which was fresh and delicious. We ordered a large thin crust pizza - half pepperoni and sausage and the other half just pepperoni and spinach. The pizza came out piping hot and we ate every slice! The food is constantly very good. We've ordered from them for over 30 years. I love their egg and pepper sandwiches. Their pizza is very tasty. Their beef sandwiches are very good with a nice portion of beef. Their bread is always very fresh. Neighborhood favorite of mine growing up in North Maywood. Everyone ordered thin pizzas from here. I've been coming here since the 90s. I always get a sausage pizza extra sauce well done. The customer service isn't the best they can be curt assholes, but it's never been disrespectful so we all put up w/their shit. In the 2000s they added Frank's Deli to their lineup so it seems Frank left the pizza joint to the sons or young females who run it. I've never dined it. Always pickup or delivery. The pizza really isn't expensive compared to other pizza joints. I've slacked on coming in here thru the years because they're still cash only and I don't carry cash much and I'm not going out of my way to get cash to patronage them. Bertolli's is my favorite local pizza, hands down. The thin crust is perfect, sauce is really good, and I like the amount and quality of the toppings. The last two pizzas I got were delivered about an hour after they were ordered, just as promised, and were so hot I had to wait to dig in. I like their salads and lasagna, too, but the pizza is really outstanding. There's a saying that what is good to you, may not necessarily be good for you. While in this instance, it is likely a true statement, if loving Bertolli's thin crust is wrong, I have no desire to be right! Definitely my ABSOLUTE favorite eat at home thin crust in the neighborhood! What makes it my preferred thin crust is the crispy crust and lots of fresh mozzarella. The pizza is served on a circular cardboard slip and stapled inside a paper bag which is less than ideal for leftovers, but it is definitely more earth friendly than a complete cardboard box. Some of the best pizza in town. Sauce is rich, slightly sweet l, and so flavorful. Loads of cheese. We've been a bit hit or miss with delivery to the north side of Oak Park, but the quality of the pizza is excellent and price is reasonable. In our house, Saturday dinner is typically defined as "everyone for themselves." My wife and I were feeling a bit peckish last night and based on a glowing review of this restaurant that I read in Wednesday Journal (focused on Bertolli's thin-crust pizza, a style which is a favorite of ours), I decided to order from them. As I was reading their online menu, I realized where the restaurant is located (near the southeast corner of Lake and Thatcher in River Forest) and it dawned on me that despite driving by a million times, I never thought anything of it. Order shows up and we dig in. (drum roll) Whoa! Oh my gawd, mighty delicious! What a hidden gem indeed! Many things stood out about our pizza experience: 1. One of the intriguing take-aways from the review in WJ was that Bertolli's does not overdo it with the cheese. I must agree and I prefer a more sparse covering as IMO, it creates less competition with the flavors from the other toppings. 2. Sauce. Oh man, the sauce was amazing. It has a zest that gives the pizza an undisputed originality without itself overpowering the overall taste. 3. Bangin' sausage. As a pizza topping, sausage is my favorite but admittedly, I prefer something that is less processed. This stuff had wonderful flavor and the fennel gave it a homemade flavor. 4. Well-done crust. Wait! We ordered it this way! In fact, we will do so pretty much whenever a restaurant will bake it as such. It was perfect. The crust had a nice crunch on the outside without being dry on the inside. Oh man. So, if you are on the prowl for a new and satisfying pizza-experience, you must try these guys. The food is five star, I feel bad giving them four, this is bar none my favorite pizza. It is not cheap, but this is a case of getting what you pay for. It costs a few dollars more but their ingredients are top notch. I have had several bad delivery experiences with them, incredible delays, in their defense these are in the past, they may have improved since then. I have never seen anyone dining in, the decor and ambience are not inviting. Once I embraced that this was a carry out only option (and it is not at all close to my house) but well worth the extra hassle, I was far better off. The pizza is great! The people are pleasant and efficient. The connected convenience store next door has a great selection of Italian sodas, high quality frozen pasta and Italian food. Do your self a favor, try their pizza, it is amazing, avoid delivery and dining in, carry out, grab some limonata and enjoy a delicious meal. read more
