Beachy vibe with a great play area for kids. The sangria is sweet and tasty, fish tacos were dressed with flavor, and the fried shrimp poppers were as fat-fried-delicious as you'd expect. Nice atmosphere outside with a decent selection of beers. Food is average to below even for a beach bar. Staff is friendly and that adds to the comfortable atmosphere . Main complaint is their very weird tv setup where they split a modest size screen into FOUR separate events so you end up having to deal with some minor event instead of a full screen baseball game, golf event or football game. I've been coming to Bethany boathouse for quite a while and it's always been one of my favorite spots, that is, until tonight. This Saturday cocktail special was a tequila orange crush which struck me as an odd combination so I asked about it and was told "if you don't like tequila, don't get it". I happen to love Tequila so I went ahead and ordered it along with my favorite quesadilla. The drink was better than I thought but extremely sweet. My quesadilla came out and was just this side of warm so I sent it back for another. The manager came up and said that they would have one out shortly. When the second quesadilla came out, it was sufficiently hot. I had also asked for extra pico earlier but never got it. The bartender brought me a second pico. What I found most disappointing was that neither of the bartenders nor the manager asked me how my drink was or how the second quesadilla was. I've been in the bar business for over 30 years and would've tipped $18 on my $22 tab had the bartenders showed any interest at all in my experience, but they didn't. Instead, they got $3 and an assurance that I won't return until the summer season next year so I'm assured of getting the actual experience the bartenders that give a damn about their customers. read more

I've been to Bethany boathouse a lot. By far my favorite restaurant in Bethany beach. Great service. During the summer there is usually a bit of a wait. The food is great. They have many options. Great kids menu and main menu. It is a family friendly place that I recommend you bring your kids to. Bethany boathouse also has a great vibe to it. You are surrounded by a little pond. Bethany local here... This is a great place for lunch, lite dinner, but especially drinks. The pavilion bar is over-21 only, so it's a little escape from the kids. The main building contains another bar where kids are welcome. Dining seating is offered inside and out, parking is free and prices are moderate. If you're looking for a white tablecloth experience with a sommelier, this isn't your place. If you want a descent selection of lite fare and lots of drinks in a flip-flop-friendly atmosphere, straight off the beach, sand between the toes kind of place, stop in for a bite and a drink ... or six. Oh, did I mention there are large screen TVs all over the place which each feature four split-screen sporting events all day long? The kids will love the sand play area complete with a huge wooden pirate ship jungle gym. This area is easily seen from the main building bar area to keep an eye on the youngsters, and in full view of the employees at the greeting stand. So relax and let them wear themselves out. With newly installed awnings, shade and wind screens, dining/drinking is pleasant, dry, and more climate controlled than last year (no awnings, shade, or wind screens last season). Maybe the Boathouse will stay open later into the off season than it did in '15. Every night offers a different crush drink and beer special. I like the ahi tuna and tacos. I'd give the food a 7 out of 10, and their prices are relatively fair. Don't expect the dining experience of a lifetime ... It's a casual beach joint after all. The staff is friendly and relaxed. Service is timely and proactive. Kudos for management for putting nice kids in place and letting them do a nice job without micro-managing them. If you can bike it there, even better. There are three bike racks in front. Overall this is s pleasant experience. Good live entertainment is featured throughout the summer. read more

I came here over July 4th weekend with my mom and grandparents. The hostess told us there was a 30 minute wait (holiday weekend), so we headed to the bar. In less than 5 minutes, our table was ready. This was perhaps because they noticed we were with two 90-year-olds. Either way, we were pleased. The venue is totally beach-y - live music and bustling bar and dining area. The place really looks like a boathouse on the inside. The live band was the perfect volume, not overbearingly loud, which is important when you're with two 90-year-olds. I ordered the shrimp tacos, and my family ordered salads. We ordered the crab legs to start, but they ended up coming out at the same time as our meals. At first the waiter forgot my wine, but he was so apologetic I didn't mind at all. My tacos were awesome - they had a really tasty avocado aoili, and they came with guac which is always a plus. My grandmother ate her entire salad, which is saying a lot because they were huge and she's a tiny woman. Guess she really liked it. The crab legs were great and came with a buttery aoili, but they only brought us a hammer with the legs. We asked them for one of those squeeze-y things so that we could crack the legs, but they said they didn't have any which was kind of lame, but we made do. The band played great music, the waiter and manager checked up on us multiple times, so we had a great experience. I will be returning next July 4th, if not sooner! read more

Place is a 10. Great service, good drink specials, and great food priced right. We got the blue crab claws for just 5$ a Lb! We also ordered some shrimp and wings. My family can be a bit needy but my server was an absolute pleasure. Carolyn was very helpful when suggesting different items on the menu and a pleasure to talk too. Whenever we drive by the Bethany Boathouse it seems packed so we were curious to try it out for lunch. The ambiance is very casual and beachy which we liked. The food is good. I had a crab sandwich that I enjoyed. The only negative was the service which was just mediocre. As expected a number of college age people seem to be employed there in the summer. When we were seated inside we asked if we could have one of the outdoor tables. The hostess said they were trying to balance servers to tables and that we could but that it would skew the balance. Okay then, we sat inside. At another point during lunch two servers nearly collided and the female server snapped at her coworker. Kind of inappropriate given that we witnessed what was a true accident with no malicious intent. Lastly they are not great with food allergies. We had trouble finding food options that didn't include egg or nut products. Our server was helpful and went back to the kitchen a few times to verify ingredients but when you have a child with a severe food allergy it would have gone a long way if someone more knowledgeable dropped by the table to help us. We would return as we liked the ambiance and music but we'd go without kids next time. read more
