Very good diner food Met up with the In-Laws at Betsy's based on the great reviews. Took us a little bit to find it-- around back and adjoining the bowling alley. Betsy's is very much a cozy diner-- sandwiches, pasta, fried chicken, etc. The feel takes me back to some years spent in the Mid-West with the popular spot on Main Street. Food is surprisingly good. I especially liked the fried chicken, which was crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and had a lot of flavor. Service was par. Nice people, though a tad slow on refills and the bill. Very close to four stars for me. Will swing by again next time we're that way to see if it crosses over. :o) read more

Didn't want overpay for a breakfast at my hotel and found this place! As soon as I saw the line, I knew we had found "that local's place in Morgan Hill". The place only fits a capacity of 63 diners but they move quick. The only problem with the menu are so many choices. I knew what I wanted,but finding it on the menu took a bit. The waiter cane over sat down in our booth and asked what sounded good. She chose the chorizo scramble with country potatoes and 2 pancakes. I had 2 eggs, link sausage, hash browns and 2 pancakes. We were in a rush, but the coffee came often and the food came quick. The food was great and just what the doctor ordered for a post-holiday hangover and a long drive home. I only wish I had more time to bowl next door in the connected bowling alley. When you get your bill just go up to the cashier and pay it. read more

We LOVE Betsy's! This place is a true gem; we ate here once on a whim and it quickly became an every weekend Sunday breakfast stop for me and the husband. The staff is so warm and inviting. I don't eat meat and try to avoid dairy, so I have to tweak my order at restaurants a lot. This throws people off and my food usually comes out wrong, but not here. The waitresses actually know the menu well and never have an issue getting me exactly what I want, which I so appreciate! The food is always fresh and comes out fast, especially considering how busy the place gets. Their homemade verde salsa is to DIE for- my husband usually drowns his omelet in the stuff, lol. Support local and give Betsy's a shot! Just arrive before 8:30-9:00 AM, especially on the weekends, or you're going to wait a while! read more

A hole in the wall attached to Morgan Hill Bowl, complete with windows into the bowling alley and all! I was a little hesitant at first, but with nothing other than a couple donut and bagel shops open in the area, I decided to give it a go. Upon walking in, me and the little Miss were greeted by the waitress and friendly patrons. You can totally tell this is a local hang out. The server was fast and friendly. Even though she was all by herself (minus the 2-3 people working in the kitchen), she handled it like she had an extra pair of hands. She even came and grabbed my order before taking a larger order, which I appreciated. OMG their Corned Beef Hash is so Y-U-M-M-Y! Big, juicy cubes of corned beef hash on top of potatoes (either country or hash), with two eggs any way you like them. Oh, hell yes! Without a question, this place is legit. Super yummy food, very good service, and prices. Whether you are a local, or just passing through and need some good grub, stop by Betsy's! PS ... Your GPS will likely lead you to the Safeway, as did mine, but don't fret. Drive around to the back, and you will find Betsy's. The restaurant is outdated, but have a seat. I stumbled upon some of my Pa's writings the other day and as I sat with le chat last night reading I realized - I had forgotten to tell you about Betsy's!. The reading reminded me of Betsy's for as I had gone on Father's Day and had intended to come home straightaway and Yelp their chili verde and fathers and important related stuff ... and then I did something else. Betsy's is in a plaza with a bowling alley. There's a back door to the lanes. I entered through said door as I had joined my friends and their families to celebrate their fatherlyness. Having no family of my own I was able to slip away whilst they tied shoelaces and blew noses and did those things that families do, slip away through the back door to Betsy's. Holy cow. The bowling was cool and all and they gave the Dads free games and there are all manner planets painted on the back wall and getting an alley is a breeze, but - holy cow. Betsy's was crazy good! I sat at the counter and watched what was clearly the family do what they clearly did so well. A daughter to my left who would not marry me later because she was already married was eating a plate of what's that? Twas chili verde and twas not on the menu. She said get it, so I did. It was lovely. I proposed. She declined. This happens again and again. Looking around it appeared as if the other breakfasts were as good; all the patrons were smiling. The vibe was sunny. They gave me a mimosa even though I wasn't a Dad. Maybe it was son's day too. I apply my radius rule here. I think Betsy's and bowling is worth a drive if you live within 50 miles. I'll go the extra distance as I have friends in The Hill and it's a cute place to roam around and sometimes getting out of the hood isn't a bad way to spend the day. Happy Father's Day Pops. I came here for breakfast a while back and enjoyed a chicken fried steak entree. This place is a lot like many other breakfast houses that I have been to during my travels over the years. 3-Stars for a good hearty breakfast and a pleasant wait staff. Sweet, hidden place, we had a group of fifteen so it was about a 45 minute wait on a Sunday morning. I wasn't complaining though, it's in a little plaza so it was nice to walk and also we scored Girl Scout Cookies around the corner! I ordered the homemade corn beef hash with home style potatoes and pancakes. I kinda wished I was drunk at that time, it was so good it would even be better drunk. *Ignore my inappropriate drinking thoughts, hey... its 5 o'clock somewhere right?* The food came quickly and the service was good! My corn beef was juicy and not overcooked, just cooked to perfection. I was pretty surprised the home style potatoes actually had flavor and crunch. The pancakes added on was a cherry on top, super soft and fluffy- better than mcDonald's hotcakes (sh, everyone loves Mcdonalds hot cakes ok). Will return when in the area! read more

Our first time trying this place yesterday - I just moved to Morgan Hill and have been wanting to try local places to eat. This place was definitely a local spot to go! It was pretty crowded on a Monday morning, which is a good sign! We only waited about 5 minutes. After we got seated the waitresses were really attentive and super friendly. I ordered a chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich and my boyfriend got a bacon and avocado omelette with country potatoes. Both were really really good!! After we finished eating I paid on their little mobile device thing that they carry around, which I think is a great device to have. I would definitely recommend this place and I hope to be back soon :) read more

Food is spot on comfort diner food. Probably the best breakfast you will find in Morgan Hill too. I loved my bacon cheeseburger and southern breakfast. Definitely hit the spot. I would say service is tentative but idk if it was just me or the staff if just naturally a bit rude.. Maybe I'm just used to LA places. Whatever, the food is good. read more

I came here for my first time this Wednesday. The food was great! I'm not a breakfast food fan. On occasion I will eat it. It was about 9am I ordered an omelette with bacon, sausage, cheese and avocado. I had a side of sourdough toast and a side of linguisa. My sister had the pancakes she wouldn't stop talking about them the day before and she raves about how she was taking me to the best place in town. This spot didn't disappoint. It was delicious and I cleaned my plate. The service was fast and speedy and the waitress was very kind. I love how it's family owned and operated. It had a warm and cozy feel to it. Best food ever , there employees are so nice and considerate . The food comes really fast and I can tell the employees try there hardest to make there customers happy. Wow - this breakfast location is delicious! Unpretentious and just great traditional breakfast dining. Never would have I thought a diner attached to a bowling alley would serve some of the best hash browns. Staff is friendly and helpful too. Highly recommend. Get the hashbrowns! My husband and I love the Chorizo Pile. Sooo good and the chorizo is really high quality. Note, this place is ALWAYS busy (because they're so good), so expect a wait if you come after 9 am. Totally worth it though! read more

Just moved to Morgan hill from Gilroy and wanted to try somewhere local! So friends recommended Betsys! And I'm glad they did! Love the staff there So friendly and always checking on us! We usually go at a busy time too! The food is just as good! First time I went I order that Betsys omelette with hash browns really good had an avocado in it which I found was so good! I asked for hashbrowns cause I'm a hashbrowns kind of girl. And instead of toast I got 2 pancakes! Yes TWO! and they are the best pancakes I've had in craving them right now as a matter of fact. Second time I created my own omelette, Spinach, bacon and cheese! So good! But I asked for country potatoes this time and I liked the country potatoes more the the hashbrowns. read more

This place was awesome. Found it last minute during a long weekend of sports. There was 6 of us and we all got there starving. We ranged from the different breakfast plates to lunch. We had the open face turkey sandwich (delicious), the pancake breakfasts (super fluffy), the french dip & Philly cheesesteak were on point as well. Oh and i can't forget the fries. Freaking yummy!! Definite must go any time you're in Morgan hill. Jennifer was so great and friendly, totally made the experience awesome!!! read more

This was a solid breakfast. After a super long road trip cross country, all we wanted was to sit quietly and eat a homemade breakfast. Betsy's did not disappoint. Some folks seemed to think being next to the bowling alley was a downside. We thought it was fun. The atmosphere was unpretentious and simple. The food, honest, scratch made, and in generous portions. I got a scramble with turkey mushrooms and cheese in it and it was chock full of all three. Good quality turkey is always a good sign. The home fries were yummy, and I love that they had multiple hot sauce choices. Our coffees were always full, and the waitress made sure my English muffin was dry, as requested. That's always a big win for me. Solid breakfast. Just what I needed. read more

My husband and I always stop at this restaurant when we come to visit Morgan Hill from LA. This time we brought our family to share the loving, warm, and welcoming atmosphere this place always shares!!! JEN, our server every single time, always makes us laugh and made sure to give my parents the time of their lives! Amy was great too! Not only does the food taste AMAZING, the service makes it feel like heaven on earth. Whenever you visit the place, make sure to tell Jen and Amy that Brian and Joseph say hi! Solid food, but pretty bad service the day I was there. We were told by a passing waitress that she'd be right with us (so we should wait to be seated?) and then stood for an uncomfortable amount of time before we were waved to a table by a totally different person who said it's a seat-yourself place. Our actual waitress was the first one we saw, and she just seemed generally annoyed the whole time, and only came by to refill our coffee when waved down repeatedly. The food was good though, simple homey diner food, and they perfectly handled an odd food substitution, so they get big credit from me on that. Atmosphere is of a great little neighborhood diner - unpretentious, unfrilly, but humorous and friendly too (other than our particular waitress). Another con is that they don't have real cream - just the little half & half cups. The coffee was good though - better than the average diner. read more

I really hate to give a bad review because the service was excellent, and the staff so sweet. But honestly, this was the worst breakfast I can remember having. Chicken sausage and hash browns were so greasy and had a terrible oil flavor. Waffles were bad and chalky. I'm so sorry, Betsy. I feel I need to let people know. Can't understand all the great reviews. read more

I wasn't sure what else was around in the bakery department, so my husband drove me down town to see what we could find. I spotted GVA and ran in right before closing as a last-resort, hoping they had something I could bring as a dessert to a friend's house. I caught the cashier while trying to get a quick bite, but she hurried to help (even with her mouth full, which I appreciated, being in a rush myself). She was very friendly and I got the chocolate chip cookies and biscottis I was hoping to find. The cookies were impressively big (my daughter told me they were as big as her head). We cut each cookie into 6 pieces so everyone could try the different types: chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate, and oatmeal, and then almond and chocolate biscottis. Everyone was happy with the cookie assortment! Thank you for being open when no one else was GVA! You saved the day~

Well I've been in there a few times now and I understand everything Russ is saying, from the amazing delicious pastries to the warm and friendly owners and staff. I've loved everything I e eaten at this place! So I ran in with my husband a few days ago to order a birthday cake for Russ (his favorite bakery). Jeff and I had a great time ordering pastries to go and of course... ordering the burnt almond cake for the celebration a few days away. Jeff got a piece of the most dense/ingredient filled Quiche. Every bite was a taste bud delight and it was very filling! Good quality. No smoking and an excellent breakfast decision. We ordered some coffee cake and a cinnamon roll for others at home and I got a jelly roll that was this beautiful, fluffy, perfectly cooked roll with a bit schmear of a cream cheese/butter icing on top and the apricot jam they crowned it with was stellar! OMG. I'm going back for another one of those. That was an incredible decision. Pictures next visit I promise!!! The restaurant is clean and airy indoors and they have a beautiful seating area with tables and umbrellas outside. I was marveling at the giant leggos and giant games for kids to entertain themselves at while parents sip coffee, tea or another drink and enjoy a leisurely pastry and conversation to make their day special. All in all this place is as amazing as Russ said and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a special experience with food, family and joy.

How could the service be so slow you would need a first aide kit? Let me tell you. The first two time we tried to go here it was a 50 minute wait, so we passed. Today we sat after 15 minutes wait. I had to find the waitress 3 times, for coffee refil, did not bring my Son milk and to pay. Because we had to wait so long for everything ( chocolate waffel but did not bring us milk, had to go find her and ask for drinks) , it was like a " Got milk" comercial nightmare. My Son had a meltdown and my wife took him to the car, and he scraped his leg really bad. I asked if they had any badaids or first aide kit, in a restaurant. And she said they did not have bandaides. So that gives you an idea of the cleanliness if they have no bandaides or first aid kit... painful experience on many levels.

I thought the crust on the pizza was perfect, I really enjoyed the wood-fired vibe and fresh toppings. This would probably be my favorite pizza if they used better mozzarella. For now, Bizza is holding the top spot for me since they use Butcher's Son mozzarella, and in my opinion, it's the best vegan mozzarella sub I've ever had from pizza spots so far. Even though I have notes, I still think the overall meal was a home run and the staff were super friendly so they get 5-stars in my book.

The service was fantastic, glasses constantly being refilled, asked us if we wanted more bread and butter and our server made some great recommendations "5 Stars" The Food: #1. They gave us 2 nice warm bread rolls with a room temperature salted butter cube. The bread at first tasted salty but then my palate caught up and oh snap! this bread was good!! 5 Stars! #2. The server recommended the beef Wellington. "I ordered it med rare, it came to me med rare" it comes with mashed potatoes and longstem broccoli with cherry tomatoes, and a wine/vinegar reduction for the Wellington. The broccoli had a nice crispness to it and were seasoned perfectly, the cherry tomatoes added some brightness. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth and paired perfectly with the Wellington. We very quickly told him we would need a few minutes. The few minutes though turned into 10-15 before he came back to take our order. The appetizer took an extremely long amount of time to get to table. The young man who brought it wasn't our server and did not check to see if we needed anything else. When our waiter eventually came back with our cocktails. He just held them out to the nearest person and made us pass them down the table. Eventually after another long wait, our meals arrived. Server nowhere to be found. By this time our first drinks and waters were empty. Server didn't come by for quite awhile after. Some of our party asked for more drinks and water. We never got more water. Server never came by mid meal to ask how we were doing. If we needed anything else. I would've ordered another drink if I had a shred of confidence that it would've been delivered before I finished my meal. Speaking of the cocktail. YOU DO NOT MUDDLE THE CHERRIES IN AN OLD FASHIONED. It was just a mash of fruit floating around at the bottom of the glass. We finally saw our server again when he came by to ask if we wanted desert. He dropped off the menus and then disappeared for another 10+ minutes. At which point I had to go find him to inform him that we wanted to order dessert since we were celebrating my father's birthday. When the other young man brought our desserts we had to ask for new plates and clean utensils. We again had to ask for more water since it wasn't brought when previously asked for. Our server then eventually showed up for the check. He told us the first card didn't go through. He did not do this quietly or with tact. He came back after the second card didn't go through. We did not get any banking notifications about these and inquired if perhaps their system was the problem. It wasn't until the third card didn't go through that he admitted they were trying to fix the problem on their end. He did not apologize. We've dined at this restaurant multiple times a year for several years. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had here. If you care at all about the service you pay for then I would suggest you avoid this restaurant. Very disappointed. Next time we'll be dining elsewhere.
