Matt from Better Air NW serviced my furnace in January as the furnace started to work intermittently. He conducted some regular maintenance that was needed and noted that a motor was making a noise, but overall was working. He also noticed another fail-safe component was never set up correctly when the house was built. His recommendation was to have the fail-safe component fixed and the motor could wait until it failed, as it was still working. He, of course, informed me of the price of making the repairs to the motor now instead of waiting for a failure and I agreed with his assessment due to the price of the repair we could continue with the existing motor and just fix the fail-safe component. Fast forward a few weeks and the furnace started to work intermittently. I asked for Better Air NW to come back to fix the fail-safe component and check out the furnace again. Matt found that the motor had finally failed and we went forward with that repair as well. Outstanding service, professional, far and beyond better than the duct cleaning service we'd used previously. We called this company on an urgent basis when our dryer vent suddenly disconnected to the outside venting system. Not only did they make the time to come out, they fully investigated. While we had previously had our vents and ducts cleaned annually, not until Justin arrived did we know the extent of built-up lint and other problems. Jason, Jill and Justin coordinated with me to replace and insulate our entire venting system (very long and complicated under the crawl space) and rebuilt the vent attachment from the dryer. The result is night and day: A load of towels used to require multiple cycles to dry (and not even fully dry); now a load of towels dries completely in 30 minutes. I thought I had bad dryer (although it was brand new), but the real problem was the venting. When I think about how previous vent cleaners just went through the motion and never really investigated the "underworld" of the venting, it makes me mad. We discovered a real gem in Better Air. Wow what a great experience! I really didn't expect I would be feeling this way when I made the call earlier this week to diagnose a problem with my heat pump and get my ducts cleaned...but I couldn't be more relieved or happier with my experience. When our heat pump stopped working my heart sank as I expected a costly and lengthly repair as has happened in the past. Didn't want to go back to the company who installed our unit and who have come out in the past, so I decided to Yelp. I didn't initially plan on duct cleaning but decided to to it all after reading their reviews. I called on Monday, they had a cancellation for today (Thursday) which I was happy to take. The duct cleaning duo were here as promised at 8:00am sharp and did a fantastic job...cleaning up behind them putting things back, super professional and friendly. Later that day and promptly as scheduled (with a pre-phone call to confirm they were on their way) Justin the "Heat Pump Wisperer" arrived with his awesome apprentice/sidekick Ryan. Justin pretty much diagnosed the problem on the walk from his truck to the heat pump based on my description of what it was doing. He literally said "when I remove this panel, this is what we will find" and sure enough the part he was describing was obviously bad. He replaced the part which he had in his truck, cleaned off all the spider webs inside the wiring that were giving me the "jeebies" and was on his way. Both Justin and Ryan were super nice, answered all my silly questions patiently and really restored my faith in the heating/cooling industry...pretty sure I would have paid twice as much if we had our original guy come out. As I am sitting here enjoying cool air once again, I am marking my calendar for next year when I will have them come out and do my annual maintenance. Super impressed with this company's service and integrity. We purchased a house over the summer and remodeled the kitchen, master bath, laundry room plus refinished all the hardwood floors. I recently purchased a house that was built in 1942. Although it has a newly installed gas furnace, I was concerned that the air duct may have never been cleaned. However, since I have heard horror stories from friends who had to suffer dusts flying everywhere in their house during air duct cleaning, I wanted to find a contractor who will do the job right. And thanks to Yelp to help me find Better Air NW, a contractor providing this kind of services with exceptional ratings. They gave me a quote on line and then we set up an appointment for Shawn and Jason to come over to do the work. Both of them were very courteous in all of our interactions. They took time to explain the process before starting: 1) Hook up a large commercial vacuum at the furnace location and seal off all the registers throughout the house. 2) Use a series of air rods that connects to a large air compressor. Attached to the air rods are 2 different attachments--one loosens everything up and the other pushes all through the air ducts back to the vacuum that is attached to the furnace. 3) Repeat this process at each and every vent through the house until every inch of the air ducts have been reached. 4) Clean the dryer vent as well. While cleaning the dryer vent they discovered that the vent was not connected to the outlet hole on the wall. So, they took time to fix this problem. In addition, they found a hole leading to "who knows where" inside one of the vents, so they added a piece of sheet medal to cover it up. The whole process is incredibly thorough and everything is removed completely from the ducts. It took about 3 hours and I was very pleased with the excellent job they have done! As a result, I like them so much that I also had them to do the air-duct cleaning for another (rental) house of mine. read more

Had them get my air ducts cleaned today in Issaquah. I had not had them cleaned in 10 years, and was concerned it was the cause of some allergy issues. I have only heard bad things about those. We just bought our house a couple months ago and it came with an ancient furnace. We had it serviced and then called Better Air NW to do the duct cleaning. They were not the lowest quote we got but they seemed to have really good reviews so we went with them anyway and were glad that we did! I know nothing about furnaces and Sean was great about explaining what he was doing as he went along. He pointed out the quirks of our old furnace and easy ways that we could work with/around them. He was efficient and finished in less time than had originally been estimated. He and his partner were also very respectful of our home and cleaned up everything before they left. Later that day, though, after Sean had left, we noticed that our fan had not turned off (and our heat had not turned on) since the Better Air team had finished. We called Better Air and they were extremely nice about it and said they would send Sean back out the next day. When Sean was stuck at another job and unavailable, one of the owner's, Justin, called and said that he would be able to come by instead. It turned out that our gas switch had just been accidentally bumped to off at some point and Justin was quickly able to get our furnace running again. However, before the problem was discovered, Justin said that they would even pay for a service tech to come out if they were unable to fix it themselves. The next time we need our furnace ducts cleaned I will definitely call Better Air NW. Everyone I spoke with on the phone or met in person was incredibly nice and friendly. I contacted my previous installer (one of the big companies) on 17 June to ask for an estimate to improve my upstairs cooling. They had installed a heat pump in our older house, where the ducts were too small leading up to the second floor. Anyway, I was told they could come give me an estimate during the first week of August. What?? Wait 7+ weeks for a quote?? So I looked on Yelp and found Better Air NW, it stood out because of the reviews. It does deserve the high rating. Justin, the owner, came to give me an estimate days later. He came to the house 2 times as the equipment solution for the first estimate was not going to work. After another visit by one of his lead installers, Andy, a day later, we had a solution to install a new air handler in the attic, with new ducts and vents to the upstairs rooms. Andy showed up the next day with equipment and a team of 3 others. They worked 2 1/2 days to complete the job on 1 July. They were meticulous in what they did, they were excellent at communicating their plans and asking for guidance as the project continued. Each of the team members were polite and engaging, eager to answer any questions we had. Each of them were careful as they moved equipment up the stairs and through the access door to the attic. The final configuration of the venting and air handler in the attic was laid out nicely, with easy access for me when I have to change the filter. Just looking at the workmanship reveals that this team has a lot of pride in what they do. The quality of the outcome was excellent. The entire experience for us, the homeowners, was very positive. As the people living in the house before us had three cats, it has made a HUGE difference in my ability to breathe and the quality of the air in our home since Justin cleaned the ducts. Just hire these guys! You can't go wrong. We had them over a few weeks ago to clean the ducts in our new-to-us 1925 fixer home. The ducts had probably never been cleaned before and were so filthy we were afraid to turn on the heat. The two-man team showed up exactly on time and spent about 5 hours meticulously vaccuuming out several decades' worth of dust, debri, and all-around disgustingness from our ducts. Their pricing was straight forward (on the website!) and they did not try to up-sell me. I had an extra project i had informed them prior to arrival, and they were very fair in their add on cost for that after they spent the time to assess it. I was so timid i would get the "Mercer Island" tax, or would take advantage of the situation (for no reason other than experience with other vendors, from their scheduler to the crew, I never got the sense of anything but honesty so was not worried once they started work!) I had a good conversation with the guys and it is clear they very much respect the owners of BA NW as well and like to work there- you don't hear that often! in addition to being wonderful guess in my home, they did a great and thorough job and I highly recommend them! I wish I could give 6 stars. This company is absolutely amazing. In the past we've paid $99 and had some young guys back up in a van with some vacuum hose to suction dirt and dust out of the ducts. When they left, there was barely any difference. So I wasn't excited about getting our new home duct cleaned. Better Air NW is like no other company I've worked with. They went through the house with handheld hoses and suctioned out each register separately, pulling up broken glass and wood pieces and dog hair and even a receipt from 1989! In one register they found dog food and warned us that it was good we were getting it cleaned because it would attract rats in the future. They also found a problem with our furnace where the ductwork wasn't secured properly, leaving a gap that let garage smells into the home ductwork. They spent almost an hour fixing that with metal tape and even bending some sheet metal to tighten the seal. It was in an awkward location and it wasn't their job and they didn't even charge for it. The 2 guys were knowledgeable (one was a home builder for 15 years) and friendly. They had great attention to detail and high quality standards and they worked quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. In total, they spent about 3 hours here. The air actually smells lighter and breathing is easier. We'll never again confuse the $99 specials with the high quality duct cleaning offered by Better Air NW. Highly recommended. read more

We recently had Better Air NW come clean the ducts and furnace at our house since recently had some major bathroom and kitchen renovations. I can honestly say that I've never had a company go above and beyond the way Better Air NW had. On May 7, there were a couple of young guys who came by to do the cleaning. They spent about 4 hours to clean the ducts and furnace. However, after, they left, I looked in the furnace, and found that there was still more dirt in the furnace blower. The young guys had given me a business card with Jason, their manager's contact so I called him and asked if it's normal to still have so much dirt left. He promised to come and take a look the next day. The following day, Jason came by to check out the furnace and spent 1.5 hours cleaning the entire furnace for us till it was practically sparkling. But when he turned on the furnace, some dust blew out of the vents. I'm not sure if the young guys were new on the job but it seems they didn't do a thorough enough job. Jason immediately apologized and said he would come back the next day and redo the ducts again! Justin, the owner personally called me that night to apologize and guaranteed that they will make things right. The next day, Jason and his assistant showed up in the morning and spent 5 hours recleaning everything! They did an awesome job and we couldn't be happier. They were thorough and explained their process to us. We can breathe easier now knowing all the drywall dust and renovation debris are all gone. Justin and Jason have proven to us that they really care about their quality of work and customer satisfaction. Not only did he NOT charge us for any of his time, he said if we sorted out the issue, he would come by on Saturday (his day off) with no additional cost. Better Air NW cleaned my ducts last week and they were amazing. I was referred to them by my HVAC guy. I believe his exact words were, "they are the only place you want to use because of the quality of their work and the level of service." Booking online was easy, communication was great, and they did quality job for a very reasonable price - which is saying a great deal because my ducts were bad! We determined that they had probably never been cleaned as they found newspaper pieces dated from 1959 for a house built in 1952. Gross!!!! Making appointment was simple and easy by phone and their pricing was reasonable. The crew arrived my home on time on the day of job. Very professional, polite and friendly. When the job was done, Justin explained what they have done, and suggested tips and suggestions on air vent, duct and filters. Only reason I didn't give them five stars is because I found debris and dust near most of air vents in the house. I was expecting them to clean after work but on the other hand, I can see how dirty inside of duct they have taken out and left some on the floor. I'm not a huge Yelper but I simply must recommend this company. They did an excellent job from start to finish. I made the online morning appointment and they showed up precisely at 8am - love that! My little house is only about 1,000 square feet and it's an older bungalow. I'm quite sure the ducts had never been cleaned. It's been about three weeks since they were here and I'm noticing about a 90% reduction in dust on the furniture and floors. The house smells better, I'm not sneezing anymore, and there's just an overall feeling like it's cleaner and fresher. I think I had a lot of wookies! Ick! Feels good to get rid of them.
