These guys are the original installers for our garage door opener when we bought the house 2001. I can't begin to tell you how good they are. My dad is constantly going in and out our garage, needless to say no opener has lasted more than 6-7 years. They've installed 3 of our openers and came out to rescue us another time when the spring broke. This last trip they came out the week i called and installed a new opener for us in about an hour. They managed to fix it and didn't charge me, but recommended I replace the opener soon as the motor didn't seem to have a lot of life left in it. They gave me ballpark estimates for different options and let me sit with it for a few days with no obligation. My first review. A year after installation, we had a power outage and one of the garage door systems that was supposed to have a backup battery did not work. This was included in the cost of the liftmaster system that was set up. The owner of Better Built Doors told me to check whether the battery was plugged in, and we found there was no battery set up. Instead of apologizing, or agreeing to send me a battery, he decided to use curse words, accusing me of removing the battery -- when I didn't even know here it was. I realize this might be a hard year for his business, but he could just apologize and speak up his situation. The way he behaved, I wouldn't recommend this to any costumer. I'm very cautious about negative reviews. The owner of this place has a very bad attitude. My door was replaced last year in the summer, and it's now bent and can't be closed / opened fully under completely normal use. I gave them a call this morning and the owner sounded pissed over the phone without fully understanding the situation, saying the earliest they can do is end of next week, and if there's no issue with the spring they'll charge for it. I gave them a second call and confirmed if they really couldn't schedule it earlier, and I hanged up a little bit earlier because I wish to call another service to get things fixed earlier, then the owner called back and yelled 'don't *fxxking* hang up on me'. We've used Better Built Doors twice and have had outstanding experiences both times. A few years ago, we had a problem with our garage door not opening and closing properly. Jesse came out the next day and fixed our door in 10 minutes. And he didn't charge us a penny! Last week, the springs on your garage door broke on a Sunday morning. So we called another company, who came out and replaced the springs. But now the door was bowing when we tried to close it. They told us that the door was damaged and needed to be replaced. A new door was going to cost us around $2000! So the next day, Jesse came out and told us that the door didn't need to be replaced. He told us that the springs the other company used were too strong and that we should ask them to come back and put different springs in. And again he charged us nothing! I called the other company but they insisted they'd used the right springs and the only solution was to buy a new door. So we asked Jesse to replace to replace the *new* springs the other company had installed. He came out the next day, installed new smaller springs and also re-enforced our door. And it's working perfectly! He also gave us a 5 year warranty. And we DON'T need to buy a new door! This is the ONLY company I trust to work on our garage door. The install was completed a couple of weeks later because they buy ahead and have doors in stock as long as you're not looking for add-ones like frosted glass. In fact, when I asked about frosted glass, he discouraged it based on timing and price AND told me how to do it myself for $5. The install went well. They replaced my garage door about 9 months ago which failed a few days ago. The wire was completely tangled, and a few rollers were out of their rails. I called Better Built Door repeatedly but no one answered. Finally I chose another company to urgently fix the issue as the door was not closing anymore (and we had lot of valuable stuff in our garage). The person who was fixing the door showed me many issues with the previous installation: rollers on the right, and the left did not match in configuration. Lot of bolts were misplaced and did not match the configuration on the corresponding side. Rails were definitely not straight and level, and to compensate that apparently Better Built Door had tightened each roller differently. Overall I am convinced that the job quality was very poor, and chose another company for fixing it. What I liked last year was the fact that they were very responsive, and scheduled an earlier installation date, which did not last long due to the poor installation... read more

The guy who runs Better Built Door came over and looked at our busted opener. He said the manufacturer doesn't make or sell the part that broke anymore - so I'd be looking at a new install. But then he said, "You know I probably have that part sitting in my spare parts bin." So he didn't charge me for the visit. That night he dug around, found it, and called me the next day. He came out, fixed it, tuned up the other doors, and didn't even charge me for parts - just the initial site visit. So how cool is that? And while fixing everything he told us some great stories about life in the northwest, how he got his commercial pilot license, and so on. Made an appointment for an estimate on two new doors. Jessie gave me a window of two hours for the appointment. He never showed. I drove down q.5 hours from my home in Anacortes to meet him at my Seattle property, waited the two hours, drove back 1.5 hours fuming at the waste of most of a day because this clown can't keep an appoinment. Called several times for an explanation, he won't even return the calls. Rude, inconsiderate and frustrating. Just called for a problem I thought I was having with my door. The door is solid wood and when disconnected from the trolley it would creep down. I thought I would need a service call and possibly replacement of tension springs. It's rare to find a professional who has such a full range of job skill and knowledge as Jessie does. I ended up breaking my garage door by shutting it on a bike and then faced the wrath of my wife. Oh wow, these guys are really standup folks and very professional in their trade. I called them up to see if I can get an estimate on my malfunctioning garage. The man on the phone (I later learned it was Jesse) took his time for me diagnosing the problem and instructed me a quick temporary fix over the phone. Saved me a bunch of money there. About a year later, the same wiring problem propped up and this time I asked Jesse for a permanent repair. He came out here the next day, on time (actually I was the one late for the appointment time...), and fixed the wiring problem.
