Jesse was super friendly with a great sense of humor. When he arrived, I showed him my broken door, and asked him if he needed anything. To his reply, "Can you get me a steak with red wine?" I knew we'd get along just fine. He was very knowledgeable of the garage installations in the surrounding area (Duvall) and was never shy to share information about my specific model/ways to take care of our door. After fixing my problem, he continued to ask me questions about my door, seeing if I noticed this problem, or that. Almost like a nervous tick, on his own accord he went out of his way to fix some other glaring issues that only his careful eye could see. These were issues that were not even in the initial estimate, and he billed for none of them. I was calling around to get estimates for my garage door. I wasn't sure if my door simply needed a repair or if I needed a new door completely. Since I'm not an expert on garage doors, I wanted to get a few opinions and quotes- as opposed to going with whatever the first guy tells me. I made a call to Better Built Door, explained my situation, and asked if someone could come out and give me an estimate. The person I talked to said he doesn't give estimates on repairs, just new doors. And he would rather not come out to look at the house unless I'm using their services. How would I know who to use unless I do my research? I suppose I'm better off not wanting someone who doesn't want to work with me. Our HOA hired this company to replace many doors in the neighborhood and I also went ahead and had him replace my opener. However, when he replaced the door he said he wanted to check with the HOA's maintenance guy about what to do regarding a gap in the bottom of the new door due to uneven pavement. He said he wanted to chip out the pavement so it would seal properly but he could also install a bigger seal. He left with a promise to make sure the door was sealed correctly. However, weeks went by and when I finally reached him his story completely changed. He refused to honor his word and made a new set of excuses. He was in denial too that he could just install the thicker seal. So now I'm left with a door with a big gap in the bottom for cold air and rodents. Unfortunately I can't offer an opinion on this gentleman's ability to repair garage doors, because he never showed up. In fact, my experience with him was uncannily similar to Meara G's. I called at the end of the time window he had given me to find out why he hadn't showed, and he promptly blathered on about running late and having tried to call me multiple times, though my cell phone - beside me all the time - never rang once. I mentioned the curious coincidence of Meara G's identical experience and he hung up on me. At least, I think he did; I called back immediately to give him the benefit of the doubt and got his voicemail. Finally he called me back about 10 minutes later and very belligerently accused me of lying, whereupon I pointed out that berating a potential client might not be the most effective way to run a business. In short: it appears this gentleman is either unable to operate a telephone, or unable to operate a business. read more

Pros: Price was the best I found. One door worked fine. He was energetic. Cons: Failed to show without warning. He arrived late after I'd left. No apology. One door failed the next day. He could only come out after his schedule opened up. His fix only lasted one day and again, he was unable to come out. He didn't seem to know why it was failing. I ended up fixing it myself after reading the manual. He dumped trash into a bag of cloths I left in the garage. In the long run, the installation worked out but it wasn't the best experience I've had with a contractor. read more

The experience was terrible. Our HOA hired this firm to replace garage doors for the whole association. There are 2 options for garage doors - with and without power opener. Generally any garage door needs to have a sliding lock, no matter whether a power opener is used - using the power opener is optional, as it can be removed, disconnected, uninstalled, etc. Nevertheless, they are NOT installing sliding locks on doors that have power openers - this is already wrong, but may be OK if the openers are truly in use. Now, I had openers which were disconnected, and I did not want to use them, which I made clear at the installation time. They just shut me down and said they will connect the openers against my will, and will not install the sliding lock as I insisted. So they did, against my will. Now I have a dispute with HOA where I am asking HOA to hire someone else (definitely not this firm) to install the sliding locks and to disconnect the power openers. Over the course of their work they also continuously insulted me, even though I repeatedly asked them to stop. So, their behavior and actions were unprofessional to extreme. I see other reviews on Yelp saying the owner Jesse was rude and arrogant - I would say it is an understatement. It is possible that they would act and work differently if I was the one who hired them, and not HOA, but they certainly showed their true face. I would strongly advise against hiring these people. read more

I met the owner of this company through a mutual friend. Friend referral is always good right? Well, not this time. I got a door that was not top of the line because I am renting and agreed to pay for it with my landlord. My landlord also agreed to pricing. So about 2 years ago it was installed. The first cold evening proved it didn't work as expected because the door would not shut and revert to open. It happened on a few areas of the track. I called the owner who sent someone out after 3 months. The man said he fixed the track and that it should be fine. I am sad to say that it has never been fine and the only time it works good is if the temp is above 55 degrees. I live in Seatte/Bellevue so this temp is not the norm. I have to sit there in the morning and push the close button about 6 times on average to get it to completely close. I have a work around that is not ideal. He has never came back and fixed it even after I left numerous messages. He also changed the phone # I once had. I am going to reach out to another garage door company at some point. Two days before Christmas and the spring on my old wooden garage door broke. Jessie, the owner of Better Built Door, an expert on garage doors, called back within the day. A double wide garage door on a rental had a broken torsion spring and tangled up guide cabling. The door is extremely heavy and would not move. Jesse came out promptly as promised and spent 1-1/2 hours doing what it would have taken me 8 hours to do ( I have a full woodworking shop so am familiar with tools and repairs). This fellow is a wizard at everything about garage doors and works fast. He often trains new workers for larger outfits. His price was extremely reasonable given the complicated repairs required. Jesse just came over and saved my life! I backed into half open garage door this morning. Now door wouldn't close or open anymore. First thing I did was check on Yelp to find out who to call for help. It was 8am. My torsion spring broke on Monday and Jesse was able to come out the next day to fix my garage door! He was very honest and did not try and up sell me on other repairs too. He also gave me a few pointers on garage door service too. A few years ago my neighbor's spring broke and another company told him that he also needed all new garage door rollers. Jesse came over and looked at my broken door and said that I would need to replace the spring and one of the cables that also broke at the end. He showed me the broken end and I told him to go ahead and fix it for me. Out of curiosity, I asked him how my garage door rollers were and he told me that they all look good and they did not need replacing. I backed into my garage door bottom panel and the garage door stopped working. I spoke to a few garage door repairing folks. Some of them suggested to replace the door for $1100. Such a good experience with Better Built Door! Our garage doors were acting up, or not acting at all at some times, so we decided we should find someone to fix it up. Very glad we found Better Built Door!! We made an appointment (on a weekend even!) and on the day of our appointment, we even got a call that he could come out sooner than expected which was nice. After inspection of the crazy stuff going on in our garage, he said we should replace one and just repair the other. Of course we figured that meant another appointment and more waiting for things to be functional, BUT he had everything there and ready to go! It only took an hour or so to fix one and replace the other! The only reason we needed a replacement was because one of the systems was so old that replacement parts aren't even made anymore, and he assured us that if there were reason to think the one we weren't replacing wouldn't work he would have insisted on a replacement. Needed to replace our garage door openers as the existing ones were somewhat antique and malfunctioning. I called Better Built Doors and Jesse came out to look at the current setup to provide an estimate (for which I could not attend as Jesse was unable to get hold of me to say he was on his way - luckily my girlfriend was at home). Installation appointment was promptly arranged after giving Jesse a call later that day. Day of installation came and Jesse turned up towards the latter part of the allotted time window. Due to this the installation completed later than I had anticipated. Putting that cosmetic issue aside the installation itself was done efficiently and swiftly. I had a ton of questions about the installation which Jesse was able to respond and provide a solid response. I felt confident enough to leave them alone to complete the work whilst I was down in my office working.
