A great classic diner. The portions were large. Staff was friendly. Service was speedy. Food was cooked well. They did a great job keeping our coffee cups filled up with hot coffee. I like that one of the side options is two muffins instead of toast or pancakes. We got the carrot cake and blueberry muffin, the blueberry muffin was a little dry, but the carrot cake one was really good. No trouble finding street parking nearby. read more

The Bette's Place website says, "The friendliest restaurant in town." YOU BET it is - and more! It's been four days since the owner Sheri gifted us a cinnamon roll and a Danish because she could "not send us away without SOMETHING to eat" when we arrived after the doors closed for the day. Those treats were huge. It's taken that long to down them all! And they were a supreme delight! And speaking of a delight, that word epitomizes the owner, Sheri. She caught me peering through the window as she was tidying up after the day. Though technically closed, she opened the door anyway. This only to lead to the most wonderful conversation about her restaurant, and her life-long experiences there from the time she was 15. As a former food service worker myself, I could really sense her joy and pride in her business. It was palpable! I did notice that her selection of pies also included the option to order minced meat. THAT'S a first in America! I have never seen minced meat on a menu - anywhere outside the UK or Canada, unless it was during Christmas season. Of course, there were lots of other great choices, too. But like I said, the restaurant was closed. I was stunned when she insisted that we have a treat, and then stunned again when we saw their size. Wow! My daughter and son in law visit Hood River frequently. Our highest recommendation to them for a joyful experience will include Bette's Place and a chance to enjoy the killer treats and a chance to meet the some really great, hard-working people. My wife and I found this place by accident. We had spent the night in Hood River and were looking for a good place for breakfast. As we were walking around Hood River, we ran across Bette's Place. I was surprised by the size of line, but It's generally a good sign when there's a huge line to get in. The special that morning was the crab benedict, which my wife and I each ordered along with sharing cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was good, but nothing special. However, things improved when our crab benedict arrived. Immediately I was surprised by the amount of crab that was served. Normally when I order a crab dish, very little crab is served. This was not the case. There were two large English muffins with pile of fresh crab on top covered with a good hollandaise sauce. The hash browns were great as well. This was exactly the kind of meal I was looking for. Each time we've been back to Bette's Place we've ordered the crab benedict and it's been every bit as good as it was the first time. I keep planning to try different items because everything looks so good, but I can't seem to pass over the crab benedict. Ohh well! Maybe one day it'll happen. Bette's Place has a great old diner atmosphere. This place is always busy and the service is great. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Best diner breakfast I've had in years! We had the Crab Benedict and Chicken Fried Steak. Hashbrowns with both; biscuits with the steak. We previously had one of their huge cinnamon rolls and a maple bar as a takeout order. Let's start with the hot breakfasts. Crab Benedict was generous with quality Dungeness and hollandaise. It's a pricey item, but I thought it was worth the splurge. Chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked (so crispy!) and the sausage gravy was perfect (wish there had been a smidge more for the biscuits, but I didn't ask for more). Hashbrowns are bland on their own, but great when topped with that gravy or hollandaise or Tabasco and ketchup. Coffee was good, too. I was skeptical of the cinnamon roll, having been disappointed by dozens of bakeries over the years, but they delivered. The size makes for a rather tough, caramelized outer layer (not unpleasant, but not for anyone with fragile dental work). However, the rest of the roll is soft and well flavored. The maple bar might have been even better. Was everything perfect? No. Did we enjoy the service and food more than almost any other restaurant breakfast we've had in years? Yes. The crab benedict was delicious! Underneath the perfectly poached eggs sat a nice pile of fresh crab meat. The crab was sweet and savory. The hollandaise sauce was smooth and creamy with a nice, but not overpowering zesty flavor that complemented the crab very well. The hash browns were golden and crispy. At $17 it was a bit on the pricier side, but the crab made it worth it. Bette you can't find a better crab benedict in town. :) read more

This place had the best maple bar and cinnamon buns I've ever had! We had a maple Bar and both the caramel and regular roll and as someone that's obsessed with these items it was worth the stop on the way out of town. Then people were also very nice! read more

I ordered huevos rancheros, which was decent nothing to write home about. Portion sizes are also quite large and I couldn't help imagining how much food waste must be generated by that excessive of serving size. For some I'm sure it's the very reason you love this place, but it's not a healthy amount of food to have in one sitting, and many who don't finish don't bother saving leftovers. Stopped by Bette's for breakfast. Lu ordered the salmon Benedict & I had the crab Benedict -- I also ordered a cinnamon roll to share and couple of coffees. The service was excellent; the cinnamon roll was humongous but light and airy--it was a meal in itself. The coffee was typical diner coffee-- not bad but nothing to get excited about. We were a little disappointed in the Bennies-- though the portions and hollandaise sauce were ample, the smoked salmon was a bit too salty and the English muffins were not toasted so were soggy and limp instead. They do have plenty of seating even with covid going on and everything was pretty spread out which was also nice. My fiance and I both ordered the crab Benedict and neither of us was disappointed! They have plenty of crab and lots of hollandaise sauce so you can just throw it all on top of the hash browns. You see the servers helping each other out with the coffee, helping guest pay out or even with phone orders. Food was just as fast as the servers but all was cooked perfectly! Food was great they accommodated my wife and I's request even though to society and to the workers at Bette's Place is weird. Raw eggs in orange juice, you should've seen the look on our waitress's face! (HILARIOUS) we are used to the weird looks but it just made us feel weird once 3 other workers came out and literally stared at us. One even came out of the restroom and stared at my wife's orange juice like we were zoo animals. I said "hi can I help you?" And she just ran away. There is more nutrients in raw eggs than cooking them, the looks on those workers faces says everything I need to know. They're sheep of society. We're the odd balls because we educate ourselves on real nutrition. If they could just keep the judgement to theirselves this would've been an awesome experience. Because they did cook everything in butter as we asked and despite feeling like a zoo animal due to 3 people purposely coming out to stare at us and our raw egg orange juice they still prepared it for us and for that I thank them. BUT AGAIN y'all need to keep those little judgements for the kitchen not on the dinning room floor. read more

My breakfast was a couple of blah eggs and a half-pound slap of ham. My friend warned me against the corned beef hash, which was salty and came out of a can. I will say that the people are very nice and the service just fine, but apart from the massive amounts of food - every plate is heaped - Bette's is a real disappointment. read more

I am NOT a breakfast person. I prefer to eat lunch or dinner, mostly because I don't like to eat early, and I don't eat eggs or meat (other than fish). But that being said, we were told to ABSOLUTELY hit this place for breakfast, so we did. Not once but TWICE! Great little place, extremely nice servers and seriously DELICIOUS food. Day 1 I went sweet, French toast with coconut and macadamia nuts.... are you kidding me? Piled mile high with goodness, they also give you coconut syrup to add on top. Holy cow it's amazing. My bff ordered an omelette with hashbrowns that was huge, hashbrowns had the perfect crunch. Day 2, I opted for protein and had the salmon and tomatoes on a bagel with hashbrowns, and he had the waffle with eggs, bacon, sausage and toast. We ordered the GIANT cinnamon roll to share, but had to wait until we got home because we were stuffed! This place is fabulous... A must try if you are in town for breakfast!! One of the best breakfast spots I've ever been to. So fresh and delish and the portions were more than expected. I got an omelet that came with my choice of hash browns and pancakes and my husband got the chicken fried steak that also came with his choice of scrambled eggs and fried red potatoes. All so yummy! On our way out of town we picked up a breakfast sandwich, yogurt and granola, and iced coffee. My niece had told me to get their cinnamon roll (best in the world, she says) but a communication breakdown meant we only got the aforementioned items. The sandwich was lovingly scarfed by our pre-teen boy. I found the iced coffee to be just barely palatable. The yogurt with granola was...plain as could be, and served in a paper compostable container, rather than something that would last. The place is busy, even on a weekday morning. For coffee that is more than just drip, head across the street to Dog River Coffee and you'll be happier. read more

There's absolutely nothing to not like about Bette's! The staff were very friendly, we were seated within 20 mins of arrival despite the place being so busy and our food came in within 15 mins of ordering. We had ordered 2 plates - a french toast with hash brown and scrambled eggs and a chicken artichoke omelette with toast. We had also ordered 2 Latte's and it was decent! The food was good - portion size were huge. French toast were 4 pieces and can easily be shared between 2 (even for brunch), ditto for omelette and the hash browns it came with could feed 2 easily as well. I was slightly disappointed by the toast as it felt like they were toasted for 5 more secs than what's optimal and had slightly thin butter spread than I prefer (also, no butter on the table). For the chicken omelette, it just felt like the combination wasn't the best (feta, avocado, artichoke and chicken) and I might try to customize it next time. The french toast though were delicious! Overall, we had good food and would visit again (also, maybe splitting a plate between 2)! read more
