Though I've lived in Hamburg for 42 years, this was my first time at Betty's. Quaint and quirky but the quiche w/ fresh fruit was delightful- light but with asparagus and cheese; the fruit melange was fresh. And my 'Damned Good' coffee was damned good! Hope to return soon. read more

I finally was able to give this breakfast gem a try with some friends after working a night shift. I think the only negative quality is the parking situation, which isn't surprising given that it's pretty much right in the middle of Allentown surrounded by homes, but you're fine as long as you pay attention to the city parking signs. OKAY now on to the restaurant itself. The dining room itself is not that large but there are a decent number of tables and you are not cramped. We had a very nice waitress who was attentive and made sure everything was going well. The menu seems fairly small but I'm sure they can customize some meals for you - I did not notice any omelettes in the menu. They have a morning booze menu, so I had to try their bloody mary - it was the perfect mix of flavor and spice! The drink included celery and an olive to make it classy haha. I was looking forward to ordering an omelette, but I ended up eating their breakfast burrito instead after noticing it in the menu. The dish was served with a side of hash browns, which were delicious, and most of the dishes have some fruits on the side. I loved the burrito, which I ordered with bacon (you can choose between ham, sausage, bacon I believe). It was served hot and did not fall apart. I think the next time I return I'll either try their bagel with lox (I'm a native long islander after all) or I'll ask if they I'm able to order an omelette. I went here for a work team breakfast on Friday morning. I got there around 9 and we waited a few minutes for everyone to arrive. Once everyone did arrive I felt like it took them a while to take our orders but that might have been because they wanted to make sure we were all ready with our orders. I decided to get the hot apple cider, grapefruit with the brown sugar on top and their homemade granola with almond milk. I really liked the apple cider, it reminded me that fall is around the corner. The grape fruit wasn't my favorite. I thought it would have more of a layer of brown sugar. There wasn't much and I wasn't able to taste it all; I also wasn't a fan that it was warm. I feel if there was more brown sugar the taste would have improved. The granola was great! And I loved that it was homemade. There was large portion and was filling. I felt the service was overall very slow. It wasn't busy and it took a long time for the food to be brought out and for our checks to be brought out. First time in a long time venturing out to eat thanks to the pandemic. Betty's was THE spot! Measures in place for a safe dining experience was reassuring; signage, hand sanitizer, masks on servers and greeters. Patrons masked until seated. Tables were spaced accordingly. We arrived early enough to snag a great window seat with brilliant sunlight after having been pleasantly greeted. Not too loud music added to the ambiance, fresh coffee and breakfast smells made for a super charged experience. Hot tea and coffee started the meal, and our breakfast sandwich (unlike any you'd see anywhere else, just beautifully presented) and breakfast burrito arrived in perfect time and lived up to every word of their menu: eclectic, fresh and delicious food. No wonder they consistently win awards! By the time we left, the place was more crowded and busy. A sight for the cooped up to see! Happy to patronize a stellar local business that is Betty's. Ordered the shrimp and grits. I wasn't expecting a grit patty with a slice of cheese. It's not the southern dish it's more so made like a McDonald's hash brown with cheese. Hard and gritty, I believe another reviewer wrote a note to the chef regarding the supposed chicken (patty) and waffle dish--don't. This was very disappointing, however, it's a pretty plate. Eggs and England muffin weren't prepared as ordered but still tasty. Tasted a small piece of of the shrimp, it's not as seasoned as it appears, however, they were plump and juicy. Would've been lovely on a bowl/plate of creamy grits. The French toast was mixed. A bit overdone and eggy. The slices with less custard/egg mix was delicious. Edges crunchy and buttery. The sausage is delicious. I paid 17.00 for some eggs, English muffin, and bacon. Didn't eat the shrimp, packed it. The ancestors said leave this memory behind. The box fell outside. What a great find. Haven't been round this area for years. We stopped for a long lunch. Had prawns for starters hot smoked salmon and a warm potato salad. The menu had plenty of fish and seafood options. The drinks selection was also impressive - we had prosecco and a Sicilian white wine. There's an outdoor space but we say inside. I was invited to Betty's for lunch today and was excited to finally try this place. It's a great spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch. The menu had many options including Vegetarian and Gluten Free. Normally I would have snapped more pics, but as I was out with family I didn't this time. Trust me though, anything you order will be delicious! The minute we walked in, the dining room had an aroma that made me even hungrier! I ordered a simple grilled cheese and tuna panini, side of soup. My aunt and uncle both had meals that filled the plate and their stomachs. Love the area, love the building, love the food, love that they are open early on Sunday's but I didn't love the service today. Not sure why it took so long for our food to come out since it wasn't very busy and it seemed that everyone else that came in after us got their food super quick. I really REALLY want to give Betty's a 5 star review but there two things that are it's downfall. 1. No reservations and always a wait (especially on Sunday's for brunch prime) 2. Only street parking and since it's in Allentown(ish) there's a bunch of one ways and sometimes it can be hard to find a spot. BUTTTTT the food is so good it doesn't matter. Every breakfast Casserole is amazing like eat all of it and have to nap in i the car because you should've stopped half way through amazing. When I'm not craving a casserole, I like to get the breakfast burrito. It's big, fresh, and fills you up with super fresh veggies. This is a place I take my out of town guest to. What a disappointing experience from an old standard. We made reservations for 8 and the hostess was rude, rude, rude. Clearly a chip on her shoulder, she not only yelled at us but made us wait 25 minutes for our table. Our waiter did his best to make up for it, but noted that the chef was "in a mood" and wasn't entertaining any special requests or substitutions. So despite the food being tasty, and lots of vegetarian and even vegan options, I'd pass on my next visit. Too much drama and too much unprofessionalism. Disappointing service, long waits, overpriced and overhyped, okay food, decent bar. I have given them many chances to change my mind, at least 7 visits with large tabs. They have never failed to disappoint. Betty's treats customers as if they're imposing. The staff's attitude and their policies make you feel like they don't appreciate your business: "Of course you'll wait in line, this is the famous Betty's! If you don't, someone else will." This attitude might be forgiven if the place was actually worth the hassle, but it's not. It's entirely overhyped. The staff still act this way, though. My girlfriend is vegan so she loves Betty's because it is one of the few places to get vegan breakfast in Buffalo (ever since Amy's Place closed, RIP). This is the only reason I go here -- as a courtesy to my girlfriend and to accommodate her dietary restrictions. If it were up to me, I would never go back. We've been to Betty's a number of times over the years while living right down the street. I've gone there for every meal of the day at one point or another. Breakfast: I once came here after early morning rowing practice with a party of 5. We were the first there and actually arrived as the hostess was unlocking the door. She sat us down outside in the patio area as requested. When we tried to order coffee she said she couldn't find the key to the cabinet or something. She was nice about it and eventually we did get our coffee, so not a huge problem! The breakfast menu is pretty typical if not a bit limited. They have most breakfast favorites and a few unlikely options like eggs Benedict. That being said, usually a limited menu means the restaurant is exceptional at preparing the items they do have on their menu. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I would say the breakfast is OK, it's not phenomenal. It's about out on par with a chain diner (if not even a little blander), and much more expensive. Brunch/Lunch: This is Betty's specialty -- or so you would think from the line that wraps around the block every Sunday late morning. Truthfully, I think the line is a result of the unorganized staff and their inane reservation/wait policies. An aside about their lines and wait times: Normally, waiting for a restaurant is a small inconvenience and sometimes a good sign of the restaurant's quality or popularity. At Betty's, they make it much more of a hassle. When you arrive and inevitably have to wait 20-30+ minutes to be seated, they REFUSE to take down your phone number (again, the attitude that if you leave, there's more cattle, I mean, customers to fill your spot). Instead, the hostess yells your name out into the crowd of hungry onlookers. So instead of being able to sit in your car and wait, everyone gathers outside after the 3-4 seats in their waiting area fill up. They have no benches or outdoor seating as a courtesy for customers to comfortably wait. So you will be standing the entire time. Forget bringing anyone with disabilities! The upside to the wait is that you feel like a VIP once you do get seated. If you're seated outside, you can even pretend the small fence dividing the sidewalk is an opaque wall and that you can't see the line of irritable waiting customers glaring at your food in envy. Back to brunch/lunch: Their brunch menu is largely the same as their breakfast menu. The ONLY saving grace here is their quaint little full bar. They have a decent selection of light brunch cocktails to enjoy with your mediocre food. Dinner: I've gone here a number of times for dinner. They usually have a few unique specials that keep the menu fresh. You'll be paying close to $20 a plate for okay food. "This is Betty's and you're getting vegan food, of course it's expensive" I went here with my family after my college graduation ceremony and we spent well over $200 on dinner and drinks. At the end, my girlfriend ordered some vegan pie to go. The waitress said it might take a few minutes because they had to take it out of the FREEZER. Fine, okay, we waited. It took over 1 hour to get the slice of pie. This is after we had already finished dinner and paid the bill. Inevitably, I will someday again reluctantly trudge to Betty's for my vegan girlfriend's sake. They have failed me every time. There are plenty of other restaurants that will actually treat you like your money is worth something. You will leave Betty's unsatisfied (not just because of the small portions) and upset, wondering what you did to deserve such unfriendly, poor service. Take your dollars elsewhere. When I come to Betty's I feel the same way. Getting here early on a weekend morning as there's usually a line waiting for them to open. I try to come with one person and they have these two-person window seats on the left as you walk in. Like any good diner, someone gets your coffee order and gives you time to look over the menu. I thought of Jon Foreman's song because I feel like I took a trip down south in some ways coming here. There is a southern diner feel but the place is nice (not divey at all). I'm always trying to choose between getting biscuits & gravy and their scrambled tofu hash with cornbread on top. I'm not vegetarian but the latter dish is insanely good with some hot sauce on top and everything mixed up together. This place is very special in Buffalo BECAUSE they serve southern breakfast dishes and do amazing things with them. They even have shrimp and grits! What?! Okay, so the only reason I docked them a star is because there's something that feels a little up-scaley about the place - as Maria B. mentioned it's a little pricey for a diner - but also there's the vegan, vegetarian thing going on and I feel like with that just naturally comes some type of pretentious vibe. I'm probably being a little too dramatic. And trust me, I don't let that stop me from coming. I LOVE the place and always feel cozy here in the morning. We normally come to Betty's for brunch which I highly recommend. But last night we met up with some friends for dinner on the patio. They were enforcing social distancing so it felt extra intimate with so few people sitting near us. We started with black bean tater tots, which was a layer of tots smothered in cheese,black beans, pico, jalapenos with a side of green salsa. I really enjoyed it. My friends ordered the stuffed peppers with tofucotta and seitan sausage - my husband ate one and said he didnt even notice it was vegan cheese. For dinner my husband had steak diane off the specials, and I had mac and cheese off the specials with the strawberry salad. Went to Betty's Friday at about 12:30. It was not a good food experience. The hostess and waitress were lovely...no complaints about the service. But the food was horrible. We ordered the Say Cheese plate, with the silly expectation that it would be a cheese plate (because the menu stated, "Daily selection of cheeses, fresh mixed fruit, crackers and crostinI.") It was such a disappointment. It was a plate of deli slices of cheddar, Swiss, provolone, and pepper jack, with 8 crackers and some fruit. No crostini. Cheese that is obviously used for sandwiches. $12.00. When our actual food came, my partner's Beet and Butternut salad was bland. The beets and butternut squash were not seasoned at all, and the maple balsamic vinaigrette just tasted like oil. And this from a restaurant that many vegetarian options. One would think they would know how to cook vegetables. I ordered the Rachel, which was ok...the turkey did not taste smoked in house, as the menu claims. The only highlight was the side of black beans. The beans were beautifully spiced. as another user put it, the chef needs to reconsider the menu. What a neat breakfast spot! Located right in downtown with a menu full of tasty treats. The specials were fabulous but, I went with the Chilaquiles. Let me tell you, this one did not disappoint. A great recommendation from a local on our trip to Buffalo and so glad we took it. Betty's is a gorgeous little cafe style place with an eclectic style all of its own. The place is quite large with a small patio out front and a few small tables on the side. Breakfast and lunch is the order of the day, we were seated by a very friendly chap and were waited on by another. Menu has the basic breakfast items but also some wonderful additions such as shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, Quiche of the day and biscuits and chorizo sausage gravy. I went with traditional 2 eggs with sausage and a biscuit, this was served with amazingly fresh home fries and was perfect. #2 went with the quiche of the day, bacon and spinach with swiss cheese, this was incredible, honestly mine was excellent but after a sample of the quiche i wanted to switch! My friend, a Buffalo native, recommended Betty's to me when I told her I was looking for a real BREAKFAST. Betty's did not disappoint. We quickly found street parking. We were seated promptly next to the window. I love all the plants and natural light here!! The bathroom was clean and almost spa-like. Our server was attentive, quick and friendly. My soup came out almost immediately after ordering and totally hit the spot. Our meals came out soon after and were equally as delicious. I have been into Bettys for breakfast and brunch but never dinner. Let me tell you its just as good late in the day as it is in the morning. Great services, loved the free bread and homemade butter. I went with the salmon salad but I changed to the Miso dressing. It was a prefect size, nice moist 4 ounce piece of salmon. For $14 I thought it was a good deal. nice fresh greens, plenty of carrots and cherry tomatoes and the pine nut like seeds were very tasty. Went home with a few scones, cookies and pastries. I went to Betty's for the first time this past Sunday and it was a really cute place the outside was very nice and well-kept it was a crowd waiting so I went in and took my name down they told me a 40 to 35 minute wait the wait was a little long we finally got a chance to sit outside and we ordered the waiter took a long time coming because they were short staffed but when the food finally came it was good the options was limited because it was a Sunday menu and they serve different things during the week I ordered the tofu scramble which it tasted just like chili so it did not taste like a scramble it was really good and flavorful but I was not expecting to eat chili for breakfast I definitely want to go back to try something different because they have a lot of vegan options and I've been plant-based for three years so I was excited when I seen the menu so I would definitely recommend to give it a try read more

HANDS DOWN THE BEST breakfast I HAVE EVER HAD! My friends came to visit me from NYC and wanted brunch and Betty's poped up on my yelp search. It had great reviews so I said why not. Got there it was a Lil busy because of the brunch crowd, but we got seated in less than 15minutes. We did request for a table outside but opt to go inside because we had a few pesky bee's that wouldn't leave us alone. We ordered coffee (it was OK) and mimosas, the mimosas was nasty, tasted like cheap champagne and orange juice, didn't care for it. I ordered biscuit and sussage crazy that comes with a side of home fries. My friend got the pancakes and omlette. We did wait a long time for our food to arrive but it was worth the wait. My biscuit and gravy was to DIE for, it was just amazing and the best part of the whole dish was the home fries. Oh man, was it good. Well cooked, seasoned to perfection (wish I had more to take home). My fiends enjoyed their pancakes and omlette as well. Will definitely be going back for more. read more

Checked out this gem that has been in the heart of Allentown since 2004! We got seated and served right away even though it was a fairly busy Saturday for Brunch! Piping hot coffee that our server constantly refilled! I ordered the shrimp and grits ($14) served with 5 large Cajun spiced shrimp, a square of creamy grits with meaty cheddar cheese on top as well as two eggs cooks perfectly medium and rye toast..... my father got an omelet with onions, peppers, italian sausage, and fontina cheese ($10,on the specials menu) Not one of us left anything but the garnish on the plate! Best brunch I've had in a long time! I finally stopped into Betty's with a friend for brunch on a Saturday. Neither of us had ever been but both were intrigued after seeing such great reviews. So with that said, we both set a bar a bit high....probably too high. We were seated right away and greeted by an amazing server. The service in general way AMAZING. Such patient and welcoming servers. We even stayed till almost closing (still busy) and our server chatted with us and refilled our coffees. The food though. I really, really..... really do not understand the hype for brunch here. While the service is great and I'm sure the outdoor patio is great during the warmer months, the food was just not there for me. Buffalo has some pretty amazing brunch spots that create enough competition to not feel out of place giving this place a three-star rating. I got the eggs benedict, classic, and was not impressed. I will say, the eggs were cooked well and the potatoes were okay. However, the hollandaise lacked that delicious creaminess and punch of flavor from a mix of acidity and heat. All of this combined left me thinking I was eating from a small diner in a very small town. The flavors were just not there. My friend got the steak and eggs which looked very good. However, none of us left understanding how this place gets such amazing reviews. Oh! and a note. The boozy brunch phase is one I certainly take part in and has really gained speed in Buffalo. Let's face it, most of the time a mimosa at a decent brunch location, realistically, uses a $5 bottle of "champagne" and non-name brand orange juice (cheaper is where it's at). Unless the restaurant specifies something like fresh pressed citrus juice and a nicer or even local bottle of sparkling wine, charging $8 for a mimosa is not cool (Betty's). Most of the trendy brunch spots in Buffalo serve some combination of bottomless or a large mimosa carafe for $7-$10 OR a one really nice mimosa with local products. Overall, I would give this place a second shot for dinner or lunch, not brunch. It left me liking the servers more than the pricey and (I really do hate to say this) bland food. read more
