When a restaurant is named Betty's, it has to be good, right? Betty sounds like she makes great food, and this Betty certainly does. Located inside the cutest vintage cottage, Betty's is a no-brainer stop for breakfast in Buffalo. The inside is quaint and charming, the servers are sweet and the service is f-a-s-t. I think we had our whole meal in less than 20 minutes. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which were absolutely to-die for. The sausage gravy had a good kick and had actual sausage in it. Poached eggs usually come on the side with biscuits and gravy, but I loved that the poached eggs were over the biscuits yet under the gravy, creating an ooey gooey bowl of deliciousness. Mom had the shrimp & grits and was super happy -- the art of good grits is really, really hard to accomplish. We stopped in on a Saturday at 9am. By 9:30am, the place was totally full! Always cool to see a place where vegans, vegetarians, GF and carnivores can unite under the same menu. This past visit the ingredients didn't tickly my fancy, so I opted for a ham, banana pepper and swiss omelet that was delicious as expected. I've never had a bad meal here. In my almost 29 years of life, I can't believe I have JUST visited Betty's. I was missing out, big time. My husband and I stopped in for a late brunch this past Sunday and we both left saying we could eat there everyday. Not only do they have vegan and vegetarian options but they have options for those who also eat meat, so they really have something for everyone. I was a little nervous about parking at first, but it actually wasn't bad at all and we ended up getting a spot right in front. The interior of the restaurant is interesting. When you walk in there is a bar area with two dining areas on each side. The left side seemed more formal, and the right side was more casual and open. We sat on the right side this time, but would interested in sitting on the left to see the decor. I have a big sweet tooth, so they also had me hooked from when I first walked in and saw their pastry cabinet... there were cookies and brownies and they also had a vegan banana chocolate chip muffin but we got there an hour before brunch was over and they were out. We will need to visit again and go earlier next time so I can grab one, because obviously they are popular which is a good sign! For brunch, my husband ordered the Salmon Benedict and I ordered the Breakfast Burrito. Both were delicious. The portions were big and everything just tasted amazing. Needless to say, we rolled out of there when we were done and didn't eat again until way later in the day. We browsed the menu at their lunch and dinner offerings and honestly, can't wait to get back there and try both. Also, the staff was SO friendly. The woman who took care of us when we came in and sat us was as sweet as could be. Our waitress was also very friendly. I can't eat eggs because of allergies and finding brunch places in Buffalo is difficult. I was told this place would have great options. The selection of savory, egg-free brunch items were limited and they refused to substitute, which was a huge bummer. I recently moved here from Texas and I never had issues with restaurants accommodating my allergies but it's been super difficult here in Buffalo. I eventually settled on the Scrambled Tofu Hash, which is usually a favorite of mine was one of the worst I've had. My partner wasn't any more impressed with the Eggs Benedict than I was with my dish. I have no reason to recommend this place. My best friends and I visited Betty's in May 2022 and we were so pleased! We are all vegetarians and there was so much to choose from. The flavors rotate often, and perhaps you'll be lucky enough to get the sweet and savory basil. - drinks are strong and well-prepared. Get a cocktail and live it up! - I'm a purist, and I don't usually go for the fake meat or "clone" dishes in vegan cuisine, bit the Vegan Stynger was a worthwhile experience. I have no desire to try an actual Stinger, but I can now relate to the taste sensation. - there really are no pancakes on the breakfast menu. We went to Betty's before an event at Kleinhans on a Saturday night. We made reservations earlier in the week and when we walked in, they had a table ready for us. Our service was good. We didn't notice that it was outstanding or terrible, which is good enough for me. Our table ordered drinks from the bar, the Mediterranean plate, arapas from the specials menu, vegetarian chicken pot pie, and chicken Milanese. Everyone was happy with their meals which were hot where they should have been. Bar drinks were good too. We split three desserts amongst the four of us: the lemon tart, coconut cream pie, and the avocado chocolate mousse. The only one I wouldn't order again was the lemon tart, and only because the lemon curd had a strong metallic taste, as sometimes it does. There's not a thing I'd change about Betty's. the menu is sophisticated but never fussy, the ambience is casual and clever, and the service is always great. There are lots of VEGETARIAN options, but also plenty of choices for the omnivores said vegetarians may have married. Most recently, I had the lunch special--a grilled cheddar, tomato, and avocado sandwich with a cup of vegan beans-and-greens soup ($9.50). Other veggie favorites include the Roasted Veggie Yummwich (a wrap), potato pancakes, some delicious salads, and mostly vegetarian soups. Daily specials also feature vegetarian options with seasonal ingredients. Around Thanksgiving, I like to order their vegetarian stuffed winter squash--packed with veggies and corn bread. Finally, I must warn you to somehow save space for dessert. I'm rarely a fan of restaurant desserts, but Betty's are fresh and flavorful. In particular, the Wacky Cake is a must-try (and be sure to order it with ice cream). read more

Good food just for you is their tagline. Damn straight. I'm on my third week of travel and at this point, eating out...doesn't really hold any appeal for me anymore. Luckily yelp led me to this gem. With delicious lunch options in the $10 range, I decided to try their roasted chicken salad sandwich on pita bread. When my food was first delivered, there was so much green I thought I ordered grass (as you can tell, healthy is not my middle name). Luckily, I dove right in and was rewarded with perfection. The pita was fresh, perfectly warmed, and perfectly stuffed. No mess making, even though I devoured that thing like a pig. The chicken was fresh and juicy, and there was just the right amount of mayo and fillings. I won't lie, I concentrated on the sandwich and just had a bit of the salad, but that was definitely doable, too. Beyond the food, the service was great. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly, and my server was awesome enough to check on the size of the carrots for me (see, I told you I don't do healthy, I'm sure this will kick my ass in my 40s). Betty's is one of those places I have always wanted to try, but let its location intimidate me. Anytime a place is downtown, I act like it is hours away. Yet only 23 minutes from home, we booked ourselves a 5 pm reservation. We made reservations just in case, especially during COVID, but a man came in before us and only had to wait a couple minutes outside for them to get his table ready. We were seated immediately, however. While Betty's menu is delicious on it's own, they also have daily rotating specials. About half of them always tend to be vegan. My parents and I stuck to the main menu this trip around. I ordered the Beef on Weck with a side of vegetables (they know how to make a real side dish of vegetables), my mom got the Vegan Tour of Buffalo, and my dad got the black bean quesadilla- veganized to make his daughter happy. Pre-vegetarian, I had never had a Beef on Weck sandwich, but ate roast beef a few times. The seitan on the sandwich was more akin to a peppered deli meat, but it was delicious. It is cooked in a juice, so it does feel more like a roast beef. I think if it was a little thicker it would have been spot on. My mom did not think it tasted like Beef on Weck, but really enjoyed it for what it was. We both agreed that the pretzel-style kimmelweck bun made the sandwich. She thoroughly enjoyed the vegan wings that came with her meal, and she was a big fan of wings before going vegetarian. My dad could not stop talking about his quesadilla. It is an unassuming menu item, but he was obsessed with it. It had such a unique pairing of flavors, and the cheese and sour cream were so accurate, he forgot he ordered it vegan. He claims to not like sweet potatoes either. I always say, don't be narrow-minded with your palate. The ambiance of Betty's is so cute and eclectic. Our server was present and attentive, but not overbearing. The portions were generous, and I appreciate that they do not overcharge vegan items. My only wish is that they would offer some brunch items later in the day. Though now I know 23 minutes is not too far away, for a weekend Brunch, it is out of our way. I went to Bettys based on the good reviews. I instantly got regret after sitting. Nothing tasted fresh. My mom had ordered the steak and eggs which she left more than half the plate. I tasted the home fries she had and they tasted like they had been reheated multiple times. The eggs tasted like they had been cooked in reused oil. I had a grilled cheese with turkey and tomato soup and the turkey tasted quite weird on the sandwich so I don't understand why they have it as an option and the tomato soup was more like a tomato salsa than it was a soup. Since it's brunch we decided to grab drinks. Glanced at the packed bar but within a second the bartenders noticed and wandered over and took our order. We sat by the door and waited for our table. The brunch menu was decent. We ordered our meals. He ordered the breakfast burrito. Which we read was bland. And it was but it wasn't bad. It just needed some spices or some umpf. For many many years, I've wanted to go to Betty's but never made the arduous journey, a few blocks past where I work. I've met Dodi at my job, buying supplies for the restaurant and she's invited me in. Well the BF as in town and he was super excited to see that they had Carnitas Con Huevos. We went on a Friday around 1130am. Not too busy and was seated immediately. Needless to say, coffee was in order. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the giant Windows provided plenty of sun. I ordered the Smoked Turkey Hash. OH MY GOD. It was amazing. By far, the best I've had. The BF got the aforementioned Carnitas Con Huevos. The pork was delicious since he was kind enough to share. This is an adorable neighborhood spot with a lot of gluten-free options and a well-marked menu. Before I even arrived at Betty's - I had high expectations because of their meticulously labeled menu that is posted online. Vegetarians, vegans, Celiacs, and lactose-intolerants alike can navigate their robust menu worry-free due to very clear markers on the menu. My actual visit to Betty's did not disappoint! The interior is full of historic charm, and they have a small history of the building featured on the menu. It's always interesting to see how spaces in Buffalo have evolved over the years! Service was great. When we first sat down our server pointed out that they have coat hooks in the back hallway which is a nice feature for long coats that you don't want dragging on the floor! This place is always spot on. The service is great and even though it may look busy, the wait time isn't that bad. Today we were quoted 30 minutes for a party of three around 11AM and we were sitting with coffee in about 10. Today I devoured the Raspberry French Toast Casserole with fruit on the side (which consisted of a strawberry, grapes, pineapple, honeydew and cantalope) and an egg over east. The meal was huge, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. Warm fresh baked bread with cream cheese and raspberrys under an almond streussel which was covered in a peach sauce and whipped cream. It was just amazing. My boyfriend completely crushed another on of their brunch specials - the Carolina Benefidict. I believe it was home fries, pulled pork, and two pached eggs with chiptole hollendaise sauce. I tried a bite and let me tell you what... that was some damn good pork. Absolutely delicious. For years, Betty's was constantly recommended to me as a "vegetarian friendly" restaurant, and I was constantly confused as to why it wasn't. Having salads with optional meat and a dish which is essentially just beans does not, in my mind, equate fine veggie dining. I've always walked out of here thinking "yeah, I probably could've made that $18 entree myself". The day has finally come; Betty's isn't just vegetarian friendly. The new chef, Kujo Kumro, is fully embracing meatless dining and is making this place Buffalo's most exciting restaurant for vegans and vegetarians. In addition to a new, extensive breakfast and lunch menu, the specials list over the past couple of months has had some of the most creative plant based food this city has ever seen. My favorite so far has been the vegan biscuits and gravy breakfast, which combines heavenly spiced, creamy veggie gravy with a flaky biscuit, tender tofu, and home fries. I still think the dinner menu has a long way to go, but the specials are great for now. Betty's also has one of the strongest patio games in the area, with its covered outdoor seating offering fresh air, shade, and a view of peaceful Cottage Street. Brunch cocktails are expensive, but heavy handed and a little more creative than your average mimosa. I'm so excited to have a new place to love! read more
