For a party of 20, Betty's reserved the back room for us and provided us with a $16 prix fixe menu (tax/tip included) where 15% of the proceeds went towards Sprouts, a UB student-run organization promoting healthy eating and building an on-campus farm. We got to choose from either the turkey burger or the veggie "yummwich", both of which were served with a side salad and an assortment of cookies for dessert. The burger was simple yet fresh and delicious and something I'd go back and order again even if I had the whole menu to choose from. Prix fixe meals made in bulk are often rushed together and you can often tell but my burger was of the same quality I would've expected if I was a VIP and the only diner in the restaurant. Thanks Betty's for the fundraiser and I'll be back for more! update: Vegan Tofu Hash = win. French toast casserole = partial win. Expected more cream cheese but it was well prepared. updatex2: The Chilaquiles is the best brunch item I've had here and surprising that no one has mentioned it yet. I was in town for two days and had breakfast here on both days. This place is a class act. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating, varied menu items, including vegetarian. The food quality was really excellent and the portion sizes are just right. Satisfying without leftovers to be thrown out. Also the home fries were the best I have ever had, light fluffy/crispy edged (your results may vary). read more

I drove around on a day off while the lady was on business in Buffalo and spotted this place. A quick check of Yelp said it's my kind of place. So I stopped in. Parking can be challenging as many of the spots are not available after 9am. I went in at 8:30 and was out in time! My server was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the smoked turkey hash with their house made walnut raisin bread. It was delicious but the potatoes could have used a bit more time on the flattop. I'll go back next time I'm in town for sure! read more

I've enjoyed Betty's for all the years since Carol & Dotty created it. It was always a predictable good restaurant. Until last night I don't what's changed perhaps there is a new owner but it's not the Betty's I've enjoyed Normally I'd let this go but after suffering from a really bad " dirty bar glass " sore throat I've got to vent. This like writing an obituary for an old friend. Dirty bar glasses are a sign of a place that either doesn't understand how to run a restaurant, isn't supervised or doesn't care. Either way it will be a while before I try Betty's again. read more

Ladies Lunch Was here recently for a "ladies lunch". It was nice. Easy street parking, although I'm betting I was lucky on that one. I liked the menu options. I saw many many things I might consider trying. However, the heat we have been having played into my decision on what sounded really good at that moment. We each had a different salad. Mine was inhaled, both because I was quite hungry, but also because it was that good. The other was greatly enjoyed as well. Somehow I had never been here before, all these years its been around. Not sure why, but I'll be back. I enjoyed it. My one comment was the server, she was in a huge hurry to take away my plate before my companion had finished hers, just bad form there. The other was her general lack of interest in her job or in us. I get that its not what you want to do your whole life, but seriously, smile a little. 4 stars as I did not think the price was a good reflection on the food, I thought it was a little on the high side for a salad. (While not our server, we saw the server mentioned in another review with all the piercings, and I said exactly that to my companion - hygiene is an issue with all those piercings.) (Review 251, but 250 was a museum and I don't think people read those much :( ) read more

This review is based on breakfast, solely. I moseyed on over to Betty's for breakfast by my little lonesome (because my boyfriend was too passed out from playing Call of Duty until four in the morning) and arrived at a quaint little place on Virginia and Elmwood. The server put me in a quiet area near the bar, and because one of the cooks working there was a customer of mine, I asked if he would tell them hello from me. The said cook came out and sat with me for a majority of my wait time, so I thought that was really neat and made the visit extra nice. For breakfast I had one of their specials and got the veggie burrito. It had roasted veggies, scrambled eggs, jack cheese, sprouts and a side of sour cream and fresh pico de gallo. I also had some nicely seasoned home fries. The food was well made and incredibly delicious. I had to take home half the burrito and half the home fries. When I was a;most finished with my meal, the cook brought me out a little sample cup of the 'tofu hash' they make knowing I ate mostly vegetarian. It was as good as he had described it. I would recommend Betty's for breakfast, definitely. I have heard the weekends can get a bit crazy, but any weekday at 9 am seems to look good in there. Enjoy! read more

This is an okay brunch place. I went by myself while I was interning at RPCI nearby. The interior is very quirky, hip, and fun and my waitress was very enthusiastic. I ordered the carnitas con huevos. The meat was good but could use some more flavoring. In addition, the rice was a little dry. The star of this meal for me were the side of potatoes! This was one of the better hashes I've had, being that the potatoes were crispy, soft, and well seasoned. I think this is a good brunch option in the area but overall it is average. read more

Been here for both brunch and dinner. Not crazy about their veggie options when it comes to non-brunch menu (nothing too exciting), but this place gets a solid four stars because their veggie brunch items rock. First, some logistics: 1) Parking situation: street, which can get busy, so beware. On Sundays, you can park in the school lot that is across the street for free, even though there is a scary sign saying you can't, and apparently sometimes there's a man there selling spots. A lady from the restaurant told me that the lot is FOR SURE free, available parking on Sundays. 2) Reservations: lunch and dinner only, they don't take brunch reservations. Back to the food! If you're an egg eater, they've got a lot going on, like the French toast casserole or their portobello Benedict. If you're like me and don't eat egg, the one item they have is a tofu hash, which comes w great home fries and your choice of corn bread or pita. Two seconds about the home fries: well seasoned, cooked through and with a great crisp. Can't ask for more. The fact that this place has a legit vegan brunch item is why I like them so much, even though it's just the one. Their tofu is cooked well, but more importantly, very well flavored. The hash included tofu, caramelized onion, red bell pepper, black beans, and sweet potato. I was really impressed, and my meaty friends like it too! Probably a go-to brunch place for me, if only because they have more than just hummus and pita or something super heavy/deep fried/cheesy. The food here is actually good too. I can see why there is so much hype surrounding Betty's among Buffalonians. On a side note, they DO have a veggie shepherds pie on their dinner menu that I quite enjoy. read more

If you can get in here for Brunch on a weekend, get on in! The specials are always rotating and generally always designed by the line cooks. The food has so much care to it! Also as someone who desires two things for breakfast set almost exclusively, the huevos rancheros and Biscuits N Gravy are STAPLES. You won't be anyway down if you get their Waffle with fruit compote either. read more

This is a very lively place with delicious, fresh, wholesome food. We waited 30 minutes for brunch on Sunday at noon. I had a wild mushroom hollandaise sauce. But with spinach and portobello mushrooms and Gouda cheese instead of the sauce. I had a spicy black bean side instead of home fries. read more

My friend and I went a few weeks ago and has the shrimp and grits and when i tellllll youuuu -- it was absolutely amazing. The one thing I would State, however is that they used to have really delicious whole grain toast and they have stopped serving it I recall that it was covid related when I ask the server. Before heading to the St Patrick's parade we looked for a place for brunch. Betty's was highly recommended ,so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is cute and cozy. Only had 10 mins to be seated. Everyone was super nice and welcoming and the food was delicious, and reasonably priced. I had the French toast casserole which was fantastic ! I'd just love the fact that a small place like Betty's is actually pretty big. Was so glad that they could accommodate our classmates on such short notice. It was about 26 of us? And our waitress was amazing! She set up the room as best as she could and made us feel welcomed. The service was amazing, as I said before she made us feel welcomed. She was very attentive, and spot on with the refills, the orders, and the cleaning. That alone makes you want to come back. The food was good too, I opted for the omelette of the day (bacon, ham, sausage, onions, and monetary jack cheese) buttermilk biscuit, and homefries. The omelette itself was the right amount, it had enough fluff, while being stuffed with all the goodies. Loved the taste of the sausage, cheese, and onions. Could hardly taste the ham though. The biscuit was so good, crumbly and soft, tasted good all on its on, but even better with some jam/jelly. Homefries, had so much flavor to them, just the way i like em. Big chops, w/crispy exterior, and just soft enough to sink your teeth into. Gonna have to come back, wish I got a scone and some of their baked goods. read more

We had absolutely horrible service. The waitstaff was mostly absent and had sour attitudes when they did come around. It wasn't busy so that's not an excuse. I've worked as a server for years (in fine dining and a pub) and so I understand better than many how difficult of a job it is. I would never dream of speaking to my patrons the way their bartender (lady with short gray hair) spoke to us. We're NEVER coming back here. read more

If you're looking for good brunches Buffalo as well as ambiance, you won't be disappointed. I had the French toast and eggs with sausage and my boyfriend had the salmon eggs Benedict. Both were amazing. The coffee was very good, which was a nice surprise since many brunch spots don't have great coffee ! Our waiter Kay was great, very attentive and friendly. I've been driving by Betty's 5 days a week for 4 months and not once did I even know it was a place to get breakfast, luckily my girlfriend knew and we finally made it here with a friend on Sunday morning. This place is in a big beautiful building and looks just as nice on the inside. We came here about 15 minutes after they opened and managed to beat the rush (got seated right away!) and by the time we took our order the place was absolutely packed. The menu here is pretty impressive (including peameal) and offers pretty much everything you could possibly want for breakfast. I managed to narrow it down to the biscuits and gravy with home fries and scrambled eggs (I'm a sucker for sausage gravy) and boy oh boy was it delicious. The home fries here are perfect, the biscuits were toasted just right, the scrambled eggs were delicious, and that gravy was everywhere and absolutely delicious. I'm kind of mad it took so long to come here because it was so good, I highly recommend checking this place out because it's a a really pleasant experience. read more

This wasn't my first time at Betty's but I think I finally found something on the menu that wow-ed me, despite the 1 hour wait! (We took a stroll around Allentown and stopped at Cafe Taza for a great cup). The other experiences weren't bad, and I'm not a particularly picky eater, but the chilaquiles really hit the spot for me! My friend ordered the pretzel chick'n something... made from seitan, I believe? It was one of their specials and delicious! We also got a side of grits and seitan, which really made the meal. As you can see we finished EVERYTHING and I would happily recommend anyone a visit to Betty's for breakfasts/brunch. I would like taste their dinner options soon if they're as good as brunch was. read more

Wow ...I experienced the ever popular Betty's for brunch a few weeks ago and my goodness was it crowded. Sunday brunch is definitely a crowd drawing to this place. After a bit of a wait we were walked over to a nice table with an open view of the front of the building and could see outside. Our waitress approached and despite the crowd and the loudness she was VERY friendly and personable. The menu was pretty standard when it comes to brunch menus steak and eggs, shrimp and grits , various versions of omlets, eggs Benedict and more. Unfortunately I am not an egg eater of any kind so I felt there wasn't a lot to choose from. It was difficult to find anything that didn't include them. I opted for the waffles with fresh fruit and a side of sausage. A friend that was with me was pleased with a tofu scramble and homefries she ordered. They have nice options for vegetarians and vegans. We also had a mimosas which were great. We saw some pretty good looking bloody Mary's being brought out also. Overall it was a decent brunch. But if you are looking to spend some time catching up and having a chat ..this isn't your place. I had Betty's in my bucket list to go. I learned from one of my friend that always insist to go to local bars or restaurants and since that I try mostly eat or drink at local places. I do not get the $$? The food was regular price and it was amazing! Really delicious and the spot was perfect . One thing I really enjoy about was they have special for that day! I am not sure if they have it everyday but I love the idea that you can have regular menu also specifically that day you can try something new. They have a small patio that I think probably during summer they would have tables outside. I really enjoy my breakfast. They are really busy but good thing they have lots of spot. The waiters was not that much friendly but the food was so delicious, their decoration was so lovely that I still go with 5 stars. Their coffee is also amazing. It is different . I am not sure what was it but it was just simply delicious. read more

I've long loved Betty's for healthy, fresh options and love it even more now that I'm 100% gluten free. They make it easy for you to have a safe and comfortable meal without jumping through a lot of hoops. The menu is very easy to read and this was the first time I've been for dinner in a long time. (I almost always do breakfast of lunch.) The dinner menu is substantially smaller than the breakfast or lunch menu but still I had a number of options to choose from in addition to salads. I had the GF quesadeillas with pork and they were really, really good. As in, so good that you wouldn't have known that it was a GF tortilla if you didn't know. It was four generous wedges (sorry no photos - I fell on these things like a bear after hybernation!) that were nicely crisped and fully loaded. The GF tortilla was an extra charge ($2.50 maybe?) but that's pretty normal. Only one of the desserts they had this day was GF and it wasn't appealing to me, but I think the selection rotates with some frequency so maybe next time! read more

Recently I came here for breakfast with a few of my good friends. About the time we arrive there was a wait, and we waited for about 45 minutes outside, which was not bad at all. Once inside we were seated and our waitress came over and greeted us, she was super pleasant. She was very prompt with our orders, and we did not feel rushed at all. My only gripe with the restaurant was that I did not enjoy my meal the way I desired to. I ordered the chicken and waffles, The waffles were very good, But the chicken tenders taste frozen, They did not taste fresh or homemade. While I would certainly return to try something else, I would not order that again. read more

Hands down best breakfast in the area. You cannot beat Betty's. The menu really yummy options. There's also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options here as well. I ordered the breakfast casserole and it was next level. It was really delicious. It also and with home fries which were incredible as well. The staff was really great as well. Went for breakfast with my sister Good Friday morning. We ordered a mix of dishes and shared them. SERVICE We made a point to go early (8:45 AM) -- No wait at all! That's not really a service feature but it made us happy! It was however, busy, and I think they were a bit understaffed at the time. But our server Lola was great, informative and high energy (and wearing bunny ears!) DRINKS Sis - chocolate milk. Large glass, good, classic. Me - hot cocoa. I asked Lola if it was homemade and unique and she straight up told me "no it's basically Swiss Miss". I appreciated her honesty but I ordered it anyway, it was fine. MAIN DISHES 1) WAFFLES: We asked Lola how big/small the waffles were and she shaped her hands and showed it to be like an Eggo freezer waffle size. So we ordered a double order. 8 of those sized waffles ended up being in the dish (I guess a single is 4). So keep that in mind when ordering We ordered with just butter and syrup but Lola brought us whipped cream b/c she said it's just better that way and she was right, soo good! Another thing to keep in mind, the waffles are not piping hot. But they were delicious. And they had a variety of fruits in the plate that helped balance the heaviness of our other main dish. 2) CLASSIC BREAKFAST: 2 poached eggs. I did not like these - there was a vinegar-y taste that I wasn't expecting sausage - these were delish. Two fat links so perfect for my sis and I to split. homefries - good, though not memorable rye toast - good flavor but very dry. Would have been nice to dip into our small bowl of poached eggs if I was feelin the eggs. 3) CHEESE GRITS: THESE WERE AWESOME! My favorite part of the meal. Great balance of cheese and grits in the little squares, and well seasoned. OVERALL: Enjoyed my first jaunt to Betty's after living in Buffalo for over 2 years. Definitely will go back and try some of their other unique options. read more

We are known for our fresh baked goods, the Betty's Black Bean Burrito, Tofu Hash, Chicken Pot Pie, Coq au Vin and our interesting and eclectic wine and spirit list, featuring spirits distilled in New York State.

History

Established in 2004.

The two owner/managers lost their mothers at about the same time, and opened Betty's in an historic building in the Allentown neighborhood in Buffalo soon after to honor not only thier mothers, but mothers around the world. We like to think that the experience our diners have at Betty's has the touch of a loving, caring mother. In 2009, we expanded the restaurant to include a full service bar, a second dining room and an expanded kitchen. We also added patio space and awnings for outside dining.

However my friend did try another cocktail off their drink menu and it was delicious. To finish our visit, I waited about 10 minutes just to get my check while the bartender was engaged in conversation with other bartenders. It made the experience feel inattentive and frustrating. The space itself has a cool vibe, but overall the experience fell short of expectations. I'd love to see more consistency between the menu, social media, and what's actually available, fresher preparation for a cocktail they promote so heavily, and more attentiveness at the bar.

I should have asked to get shrimp with it this time, but that will happen when I go back next time. The parking at Chandler Street can be a little tough but I found a spot which was nice. The building is full of businesses so it is a nice place to be when you're hungry. Tiny Thai is one of my new favorite places to check out in the city and if you're ever over near the Westside, you should too!

My partner loved the bagel. We both enjoyed our afternoon coffee. The space is beautiful and cozy, it would be the perfect place to come and read or knock out some work. They have completely non-plastic to go cups which are unique looking and we loved the extra effort they put into sustainability. They have bags of their used coffee grounds for free if you need to add to your compost pile or whatever needs you might have. 10/10, will be back!
