This little baker is so very nice and she makes the best pastries! I make it a point to visit this place at least once a week to check out the offers and try new things. Unfortunately since I come at lunch many of her items are sold out! But..her baking is like a dream and you honestly don't get bored because she does something different every time! I love her trail mix chocolate arare cookies because they are the perfect thing for a nice workout. Her scones are hearty and yummy with various flavors. Her almond paste slices of genuine macaroon tasting pie are just so good! Everything she offers is different and you definitely can tell she loves her craft. Everything here is of amazing quality. I should know, I've eaten nearly everything on the menu!!! I love how creative they are with flavors and just how well made everything is. Textures, depth of flavor, experimental factor. It all comes together so nicely into one item. This is my new favorite bakery, and I have to admit I held off on reviewing for a bit because I didn't want it to get super busy with long lines and for everything to sell out before I have a chance to go over. I work in downtown and have been stopping by every day I'm in the office to pick up a few goodies for the last 3 weeks or so. The location is a little hidden if you don't know where you're going. If you're walking in the direction of traffic on Alakea, it's a little past Bourbon Street (where the old Mandalay was). It's in a little courtyard right across the street from Aloha Sub. Don't worry about what you choose because everything is good. I've tried almost everything already and nothing has been bad. Several of my favorites so far are the ube cream cheese ensaymada, oatmeal walnut biscuit (something like that), banana foster cake, and lilikoi yuzu biscuit. You really can't go wrong. Everything is delicious and just the right amount of sweetness. if you didnt know, Beyond Pastry now has a brick and mortar!! she did most of the work herself, and it came out amazing! its a little hard to find if you dont know where youre going as its location is inset from the street. if you're going up alakea, just after you pass king st, the first building you pass is Central Pacific Plaza, go a little further and its on the right side, just after the pedestrian crosswalk that goes between bishop square the new bourbon street restaurant. if you are familiar with downtown, its where the cenpac store had relocated when they were renovating CPP. no super close parking, unless you have a loading zone sticker. you have to find parking on the streets nearby and walk, or pay for parking in bishop square or alii place. she just had her soft opening on 9/1, very casually announced on her IG stories. so make sure you follow her there to know when shes open and whats available. no posted store hours yet, but her goal is to be open every day (or at least M-F) as soon as you walk in, not only is this place completely revamped from when it was cenpac, but that SMELL!! The chizu tani cheesecake was out of this world. If you enjoy desserts that are sublime and features quality ingredients than this one is for you. You can actually taste the cheese and a hint of sweetness, not your typical sugary ones that you find in most places. I have to say all the pastries I've tried here were of similar quality. Wooooowwwwiieeeee! I've been walking by this place for a while now and I finally tried it today. I normally walk by around noon ish and there's been times were it's been closed. Closed because they ran out of baked goods. So I knew this place was good before reading the reviews. I got semi lucky today. They had a lot more baked goods than I've seen before. Sometimes I'd take a sneak peek through the window and the cases would be sparse. Today there were so many to choose from. I couldn't make up my mind. I wanted to try 1 of everything but I don't have a lot of money to spend right now. I got 2 Ube cheesecake Ensemada and a chocolate basket which kind of like a muffin shaped pull apart bread. One of the best bakeries I've been to on Oahu! Parking is a little inconvenient but not bad. Next door in Alii Place, it's $.75/30min (cash only). The parking entrance is steps from the bakery. I was there around 8am on a Friday. Only one other customer came in while I was trying to decide what to have. I wanted one of everything of course! Ended up taking home a yuzu lilikoi biscuit, blueberry coffee cake, blueberry cheese pastry, ham and cheese roll, and pandesal adobo nest. Everything was delicious! The pastries were not your normal run-of-the-mill fare. Some of the interesting things I bought were a guava ensenada, gluten free brownie (intense chocolate), and a calamansi bun. Beyond Pastry Studio has been open near my office for quite some time now beckoning to me "eaaaat me" as I walk by briskly towards lower caloric food choices. A few months ago, I took a peek inside and fell in love with the place almost immediately. The guy behind the counter was warm and welcoming and put up with the 901 questions he was being asked by other customers I may or may not know.... The chocolate bread pudding with Grand Mariner glaze was calling to me but as someone with food allergies I had to ask the usual questions to make sure I don't die while eating. The man behind the counter wasn't sure and rather than just saying "I'm not sure," he went above and beyond and contacted the boss aka baker. I was blown away that there was such good service for such a minimally priced food item. I took the bread pudding home with me, warmed it up as well as the glaze and went to bread pudding heaven. I've had bread puddings before, but none of them stick in my mind as much as this does. It was ooey and gooey where you want it to be but not overly soaked or saturated kinda like a softer sweeter more decadent torn up French toast. Since that visit, I've gotten to try the ham and cheese roll and the double chocolate cookie. My coworker recently told me about this place and I'm glad I took the time to grab some pastries during my lunch break! My coworkers and I got a bunch of different things to try! They were all so good I forgot to take pictures :( I got a bunch of different pastries - 1. Umami Biscuit - I love savory biscuits and after reading the description of what this was, I was so excited to try it because it sounds weird and I'm always down to try interesting things and this was sooo good and the biscuit was not hard and dry. This biscuit was so yummy and had the perfect amount of softness in the middle and jam packed with flavor 2. Matcha Cream Bun - this was one of my two favorite things I got that say. There was only one left and I'm glad I snagged the last one!! I love how all the pastries were not overly sweet and this matcha bun was so good, it also had matcha cream inside. The bread was so soft and pillowy, this alone is enough to make me come back. 3. Blueberry Coffee Cake - this was my other favorite and all the pastries here are decently sized and definitely worth the money. I was excited to eat this coffee cake since anything with blue berries has to be good! It was so soft and had so much blue berries mixed in, it paired so well with my afternoon coffee :) 4. Ham and Cheese roll - I didn't get a chance to try this one but my brother said it was a solid ham and cheese roll 5. Chocolate cookie - my coworkers and I were always on the look out for a solid cookie and this one so far is in first place. It was such a good cookie and had the perfect amount of crispy crunchy edges with a soft melty center!! Finally made it to Beyond Pastry! It was about 1:30 and the bakery was empty. Cristina welcomed us in and we began to look through her pastries behind glass cases. Everything looked pleasing to the eye --- so many choices that we literally got one of each. Granted, this was after lunch so many of the popular items (like bananas foster cake) were already gone. Cristina is very friendly and patient. She mentioned that she was doing gift boxes for the holidays (assorted pastries in a decorative box). I think I'll be giving some lucky friends some of these pastry boxes for presents this Christmas. Paying was so easy with Apple Pay. Cristina boxed up our selections and placed one pastry each in brown packages for us to eat while we walked back to work. I've been going to Beyond Pastry's pop up for a month now. Cristina is a pastry mastermind. She makes a variety of breads, cheesecakes, butters, and sweets. I've had her savory focaccia bread, pesto bread, pandan milk bread, and kombu and black garlic butters. I highly recommend her pesto bread. It's one of my favorites and pairs well with Italian food. She has some non dairy and gluten free bread offerings as well. Her cheesecake is super popular and is booked out till April 2021 as of this writing. The two things that I like about Beyond Pastry is that she uses fresh quality ingredients and her offerings are very creative. She uses no artificial flavorings or cheap substitutes. She goes for the real deal which makes her breads taste amazing. For ex, for her pandan milk bread she bought pandan and extracted the flavor over two days. That's dedication! I don't like super sweet or heavy pastries so I was a little worried I wouldn't like it because of the cream cheese but it was perfectly fluffy and not too sweet. Absolutely delightful. Beyond Pastry Studio was one of the many new businesses that caught my eye during the pandemic. While I followed them on social media and kept up with their business, I always found it difficult to stop by and try some of their pastries because it was usually out of the way for me. When BPS finally opened up shop on Alakea St., it was definitely closer in proximity but still a bit far to venture out on a whim. It just so happened that one of my work moms' birthdays was coming up and since I was in search for a cake, I recalled BPS making Epicurean Cheesecakes, so checked their website for more information. Online ordering was simple and straightforward and I was able to order two Epicurean Cheesecakes (they also have a Chocolate Epicurean Cheesecake and a handful of other bakery items you can pre-order in advance) for pick-up. They also have options for pick-up dates and times as you check-out, so make sure to pick the appropriate option before finalizing your order. Once the day finally arrived for me to pick-up, I excitedly made my way to Alakea St. If you are unfamiliar with where BPS is located, it's in a little nook in the middle of the old Mandalay Bay Chinese Restaurant location and Ali'i Place right before the parking structure (not to be confused with the parking entrance/exit by CPB and Cafe Julia). I believe I was a bit early that day but I was surprised to see their entire showcase was full of delectable items. There was a young man who had been helping in the back where their kitchen was and was quick to come up to the front to assist me. Originally, I was just going to pick-up the two cakes and head on out but because the pastries looked so inviting...I definitely had to get a box or two (or five tbh). I cannot recall off the top of my head what all of the items were but I do remember getting a variety of their scones (two savory ones and a sweet yuzu option), milk breads, ensymadas (ube and mango), and some coffee cakes. As I was ready to head on out with all of my goods, I realized I did not bring any bags with me (again, I was trying to be good and just grab the cakes), so the young man--also realizing my predicament--had asked whom I believe was the owner, Cristina, if he could run upstairs to grab a bag or two for me. That is when both Cristina and the young man started scouring through their storage to see if there was anything I could use and sure enough, they were able to find two bags for me. I felt so horrible about it that I promised that I would wash the bags and bring them back on upon my next visit to which Cristina assured me there was nothing to worry about. By the time I got back and my work moms tried not only the baked goods but the Epicurean Cheescake, we were all on Cloud Nine. The scones were some of the best I've tried with a perfect balance between being most and crunchy. The more sweeter of the pastries were also nicely balanced with breads that were light and bouncy and accompanying flavors adding a nice touch without being too overbearing. The Epicurean Cheesecake though was the absolute best surprise because it was not only in polite-sized form but the flavors and textures of the cake is unlike anything I have had in a long time. The lilikoi cream also adds a nice citrus flavor that helps make the cake not so heavy as it is a combination of light sponge cake and mascarpone cheese. Overall, Beyond Pastry Studio is a HIGHLY recommended bakery to visit if you have not already gone or have it on your list. It is a bit on the pricier side but if you're used to going to Brug Bakery, the prices are similar and the quality of items you get cannot be beat. You can tell Cristina and her staff really enjoy what they do and share such delightful treats with the community. The pastries here are truly the gift that keeps on giving and I could not have asked for a better cake or experience to share with my work mom(s).
