Red hot tuna roll | 5/2023

I came here a few times with my family after my initial visit with my friends . We ordered items that I loved the first time and my family also really enjoyed these items. I also order a round of uni for the table and I can confirm, it was fresh. One item I will always recommend (to those who like shrimp), is the sweet shrimp. They perfectly fry the head and it's honestly so dang delicious. Writing this updated review makes me miss BG and I've got a feeling I'll be making the trip back very soon!

If you're craving sushi but your husband's not in the mood, this is your place! Very extensive and creative sushi menu. Always fresh. They also have a hot menu, but it's not an afterthought like most sushi spots. There's a happy hour for small bites, so you can explore new foods without much commitment. The have a unique experience every time we go.

Well this was a pleasant surprise. We wanted a bite to eat before a show at Ruth Eckerd Hall and this one popped up on Yelp. We were the only ones there for a while. The service was friendly and the sushi delicious. Their rice was better than our neighborhood place. Only Japanese beer. Happy hour 430-630 with beer and appetizer choices. Check it out.

All I can say is WOW. This place is very unassuming from the outside but it one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. First and foremost the fish in the sashimi appetizer were extremely fresh. The service was great and efficient and my sever offered some great recommendations. It was nice to see traditional dishes and rolls but also try some new and inspired items like their Taro Rangoon. The ambiance is lovely and is clean. I will definitely be back and bring friends to eat here again!

Clean cozy restaurant with delicious food. Presentation was excellent! Ordered some miso soup, shrimp tempura (which was the best I had ever had) and a Monster roll. Also had a really good mango flavored nigori. The staff is friendly and courteous, and very attentive, which I appreciated. Plenty of parking out front and ample seating inside. Bring the family and kids. It is a child friendly place.

I swear these Japanese Izakaya restaurants are popping up everywhere this year. I looked up what Izakaya meant and it came up with two meanings, an intimate bar with cheap snacks and also stay-drink-lace. So both make sense in my world They have alcohol, have sushi, and skewers or yakitori. For this visit I had a King Kong roll and Kurobuta honey sausage(this one I had bc it was on the happy hour menu. I did not like it. It was just like a cut up hot dog. The King Kong roll was so good but I must say, I'm really loving on all rolls lately The server was pleasant and the place was cute with its Japanese theme. I would definitely want to come back here with someone who loves sushi as much as me. For your info, you can easily do a foodie hop here. This plaza has Paul's Pizza, this Japanese spot, & a Vietnamese restaurant.

Great sushi place. Came in for lunch and enjoyed. Cute place. Very good service. Can't wait to come back for dinner.

This was our first visit and I'm glad that we had stopped by. It's located in the Publix strip center at McMullen Booth and Coachman. We decided to try dishes that you usually don't see here in Pinellas Co. For appetizers, we ordered the Spider Roll and two skewers or yakitori (Momo Chicken Thigh and BBQ Fresh Water Eel). The Spider Roll was fine. The skewers were tasty but only a few bites. For mains, we decided on the Japanese Cold Noodles and the Niku Udon (Udon soup). Both dishes were beautifully presented. The cold noodles were quite tasty with strips of salmon, imitation crab and cucumbers. I would order it again. The Niku Noodles were thick Udon noodles with shredded beef on top. There wasn't a lot of soup, though. The beef had a sort of pot roast taste which was nice. Our entrees were both ample portions. The staff was friendly and speedy. The restaurant has nice ambiance with an open kitchen concept. I do recommend this restaurant if you want to try some yakitori and various noodle dishes.

Beautiful aesthetic inside the restaurant, food was amazing - literally no complaints. Service was great as well, great family business! 10/10

Visited during soft opening, so there are still some details for this restaurant to work through. Overall, love the izakaya vibe of the dining area and super friendly staff. I think this is a revamp of the existing Thai restaurant that was in the same space. Since it is noted as being a robatayaki restaurant, I tried to order almost all of their yakitori and skewer items. My main feedback is that they should use a charcoal grill instead of a heated coil grill, have warm tare dipping sauce, instead of cold. Baste and coat the skewers while cooking, not just at the end. Offer a separate "salted" option for items that do not include tare. The sushi was decent and also decently priced. Still need to try the Mentaiko fries, curry, and more! Unlike the izakaya in Tampa that is popular, this location has parking!!!

The Deep End is on the 11th floor. Since it was super windy out, they had the high-tech premium screen windshields down, so you couldn't really see the exterior, including the water views and the Gulf. You can't really hear the wind noise either these were high tech sun windscreens. We have the Shishido peppers and they were absolutely delicious. Definitely a must get when you order anything at this place. My better half got the corn and it was OK. I wouldn't order that again. He also got a number of different drinks that I also would never order here, including the passion martini. I would just stick to the usual original drinks such as the bloody Mary, daiquiris. We both like this strawberry basil Collins drink. That was the highlight of the night that my better half and I both agree since we don't agree on much when it comes to food and drinks lol. I wish the drinks would have garnish in them such as mint leaves, slices of oranges, etc. They have french fries here that are thin, just like McDonald's fries and they're absolutely delicious. I will get these every time when I come here. I can't wait until it gets warmer out, and I would come here for a late lunch and just soak in the view

The restaurant wasn't very busy so we were surprised especially because the server started out seemingly great. Then the $56 lobster came out cold and in 2 hours of a 4 person dinner we were only able to get the servers attention to get 1 drink each. When we asked to speak with a manager she came out on the offense and was incredibly rude. I don't think I would go back to eat here, but I definitely suggest seeing the sunset on the rooftop! Also- The shishito peppers were delish!

I found the restaurant while I was still deciding on what hotel we were going to stay at and then just so happened to choose the Wyndham Grand (which was also amazing but that's a different story). I was very pleasantly surprised to see them hand us a discount card at check in which got us 10% off on our meal here - even better! I booked us an outdoor table at 5 pm hoping we'd have a perfect view of the sunset. And, well, the attached pictures speak for themselves! It was really gorgeous, beautiful atmosphere and our waiter was great. The meal started with some complimentary edamame which is always a plus. My girlfriend ordered the scallops which were so good, as well as an order of sashimi which is not my personal preference but she was visibly in heaven. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and two kamikaze rolls which were specifically recommended by our waiter (although to be honest I would've ordered it anyway - shrimp tempura and spicy lobster, it doesn't get better than that). No exaggeration, it was the best sushi roll I've ever had. If I go back, I'm just going to order three of them and call it a night. Long story short, I was optimistic about this place but didn't really know what to expect, and it managed to exceed all expectations. Very glad I chose this for our anniversary dinner, thanks for making it so special Ocean Hai!

We were looking for a place where we could watch the sunset, so we were really excited to eat here…read more We had a reservation for 7:45 PM, but when we arrived it was raining, so they had to move everyone inside. We weren't seated until around 8:20 PM. The restaurant was extremely busy. They had a separate gluten-free menu which was nice. Once we were seated, it took a while for our waitress to come over, but we understood because of how crowded it was. Unfortunately, when she did come to the table, she seemed extremely rushed and it came across a little rude. I had several questions about gluten-free precautions, and every time I asked something she quickly said "yes" without really explaining. We ordered the Millionaire Bacon, oysters and the octopus as appetizers since both were listed on the gluten-free menu. I specifically explained that both needed to be prepared gluten-free. On the menu, it even notes in parentheses what needs to be removed to make certain dishes gluten-free. When the appetizers arrived, I noticed the octopus still had the red sauce that the menu said must be removed. I stopped our waitress as she rushed by, and she quickly said it was gluten-free and walked away. My husband had just put some in his plate when the server, who had brought the food out, came back and asked if we had eaten any yet because it had not been made gluten-free. He immediately took it back and returned with a gluten free one. When I mentioned it to our waitress, though, she kind of just shrugged it off. For dinner, I had the seafood bowl, and my daughter, who also eats gluten-free, had the salmon with potatoes au gratin. My son and his girlfriend got sushi, and my husband had the fish Clearwater style. Everything looked great when it came out, and I double-checked that my meal was gluten-free. The server confirmed it was. Overall, the food tasted really good. The only issue was my daughter's potatoes au gratin there was so much grease pooled on top that she ended up not eating it because they were basically inedible and her salmon was over cooked and had zero seasoning. Overall, our meal was good. The restaurant was packed, and we were disappointed that we missed the chance to sit outside and watch the sunset, but that was obviously due to the rain and not the restaurant's fault.

This falls on management and I have known this since I was 14. Food should generally be served from the guest's left side using the server's left hand.
