Another Bi-Rite Market that quickly replaced Real Food Company in Russian Hill. I used to love the predecessor until I truly loved what's even better for both our local communities and our planet. The atmosphere in the local grocery store was just the same as the one in Alamo Square; business friendly. The first time I was window shopping to check out Samovar loose tea pouches, I love to see masala chai right before I swing by several days later. Turned out they're sold out because many people who shopped here love traditional chai. That comes to show how much we're head over heels for Bi-Rite Market which has mostly organic produce. Was so excited when this store finally opened on Polk!! The inside is as expected - bougie, expensive produce and branded groceries. I was pleasantly surprised by their flower selection and premade food section. Their sandwiches are surprisingly affordable (at $14 for a hefty meal) in comparison. Interesting store as I've heard about this place and wanted to check it out. Previous reviews did say this was gonna be a pricey place...and it definitely is. It's actually above Whole Foods prices even at quality produce and things, even with their claimed sources of many items. It's worth checking this place out for the experience, but I cannot imagine this as a weekly grocery place - it's just not practical and many items costs more than if you got a quality take out. The fresh product selection had some nice items, ranging about $2.99 to $5.99 per pound. For reference, bananas here at the time of this post was $1.79 a pound. Did it taste any different or, "organically fresher" than your regular supermarket bananas at a third of the price? NOPE. They don't have frozen food here, some microwaveable meals that averaged about $14.99-$16.99 an entree. Potato chips were about $6.99 a large bag. Fun to have visited, but might be my only visit quite honestly. Unless you just want some fancy groceries, you can maybe pass on this store. read more

I was grocery shopping a few weeks ago and they had samples of the Lone Mountain sandwich. While I already had dinner plans, I almost threw them out the window and ordered this sandwich then and there. I ended up coming back the following week to try the full sandwich and it did NOT disappoint. It was so divine I can't even describe. Perfect flavors, not dry, yummy focaccia, 10/10 perfection. It was so good that I literally went back the next day and got the exact same thing. Sometimes the line can get long, so consider ordering ahead online. Bi-rite as a grocery store is great too. Upscale, a bit pricey, but yummy food. My FAVORITE premade bite is the avocado chicken salad - SO yummy on sourdough. I used to get it twice a week per my pregnancy cravings. read more

I've loved Bi-Rite Market for years. Their Divisidero location is my usual go-to since we love doing other things in NoPa/Fillmore, but I'm glad this one in Russian Hill has opened somewhat recently in the past year. This Bi-Rite Market is way bigger than all of their other locations in SF. It doesn't feel cramped - it feels like a regular sized grocery store, good for them! You can walk around comfortably, browsing their niche products without feeling like you're obstructing someone's view. The products here are just as amazing as their other stores. I love their produce, because you can really taste the quality. They list the farm name and location, giving great context into their produce. I really value that they care about their food. I want to emphasize that you can really taste the quality - anything I get here will taste like restaurant quality. That being said, everything with great quality usually comes with a high price tag, and so I can't come here for my weekly grocery trip, but rather for a special dinner party or meal. You can find specialty products here, that you can't find at your regular Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. For instance, my husband loves this special butter here that is imported from France. They also have locally sourced eggs from Petaluma (Nicasio Valley) and Napa (used at the French Laundry), which are fun to try every now and then. The service is always fantastic here too. I was trying to make a special recipe for an upcoming dinner party, and bought the incorrect ingredient. I brought back my product (unopened, unused), and they gave me a full refund no questions asked. read more

Don't buy the voila orange juice. The container blew up like a balloon on the 4-5 block walk home. Gave the juice a chance and poured a small glass out to taste. The juicswas bitter and had this carbonation taste. Put the container in the fridge and 10 min later it blew up like a balloon again. Since I used to venture to the Mission street store in the past before it got really overcrowded then switched to the Divisadero (Nopa) store later, I got to say I'm liking this space. It's the largest BiRite in the City! But I was hoping they would have a scoop counter for their ice cream. When the Nopa store stopped serving ice cream, it was a huge loss imho. When I stopped by on Sunday mid-afternoon, the store was not too busy. The cashiers were not overwhelmed and I found the person who helped me not friendly (at all). This is a sad start on the customer service front. I will, however, shop here again. I'll report back with how it goes. read more

This is a well lit store with friendly staff here. Not too bad, I like it. Everything here is well lined up on the shelves, always a good thing. When looking for salads and sandwiches packed and ready to eat, come on in to Bi-Rite on Polk. Also, they do have trays of fresh made pasta ready for serving as lunch or dinner. This location is by far the best of the Bi-Rite Markets in terms of size and conveniently located in walking distance of home. You never have to question quality when shopping here or any of the locations. I will say, the staff here seem to be much friendlier and just offering to help which was a nice touch. Each time I've been now, I don't have to squeeze past anyone or wait in any long lines at checkout. Plenty to rave about, but I do love that they hire ALL genders and ethnicities, and encourage non-binary language when interacting with their staff. Being single and always ready to mingle I grabbed the "to go" egg salad sandwhich, "to go" Beef & Cheese Empanadas, snap pea pasta salad, Wise Sons plain bagels, goat gouda from Central Coast Creamery, and eggs from Tomalas Bay, life is so boring... and a bottle of my favorite sparkling water Topo-Chico from Mexico. Bi-Rite is a family owned business which originated in the Mission District and my childhood store as a kid. The Bi-Rite roof was the best hiding place when playing team hide and seek in the neighborhood . Since I went to high school across the street from Dolores Park we would come here often to grab lunch during open campus and go to Dolores Park and join the double lunch bunch (the cutting class crew) and layout on the grass and enjoy the day. As an adult this place has all the essential to make a drink run from Dolores Park. This San Francisco institution is expanding I am proud of it. The new Bi-Rite is located at the Polk Gulch. This Bi- Rite has an open space with lots of good drinks and food. Great selection of drinks. A seafood market and lots of fresh produce. They have my favorite new drink " You Guava Be Kidding Me". They also have those magical dessert jars. They also have Delfina Frozen pizza. Great new store . This store is rather small. However, there are some gems inside. The fried chicken I purchased a few months ago was not all that great. However, the latkes I purchased yesterday are phenomenal. I put them in my air fryer for about 6 minutes, under aluminum foil coated with vegetable oil spray. I also paired the latkes with applesauce and sour cream from Whole Foods. When I tell you this combo is sinful! Before you all go crazy, I will warn you they are not cheap, as they are currently retailed at $14.99; but, if you can spare the funds, please treat yourself! Love this location of Bi-rite! Conveniently located on Polk Street, they have all the essentials + all the unique goods you would expect to find at Bi-rite. They have a great selection of produce, prepared food, and sandwiches. They also have pie (including their banana cream pie!) and ice cream cake available. This is a new store for me, and I have mixed feelings about it. I love that they have meats portioned for one or two people, and organize, bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts. Which I can only get at Whole Foods, and this is closer. Russian Hill/ Fort Mason is kind of a food desert, so this is a great walkable option. I told the people that this was a service animal, and they still insisted me go park my dog out front, I will not be going in this location again instead, I will spend money elsewhere where I'm not hassled over my dog and the options for food have more variety and the prices are less.
