I called in on a Tuesday and the owner picked up the phone. I was asking some basic questions. Pricing on all types of rentals, etc. and he seemed like he was getting irritated answering my questions and was semi rude and dismissive. Sorry if you do not appreciate your potential customers. Seems like the city I have lived in for 43 years gave you a pretty sweet deal of free rent all those years for you to have an attitude.. I ended up coming in and met a friendly lady and was happy I didn't have to deal with Mr. Grumpy. I rented a Blue E-Bike that was very fun. It was well maintained and inspired me to go buy an E-Bike which I did the following week. Customer Service is EVERYTHING! The lady knows it. The guy is having a hard time. all in all rental was good and it looks like I am one of the last ones who got to ride it on the Beach trail :( E-Bike Haters need to move back to Ohio.. read more

I've rented bikes from here three times now and every single time I'm blown away. I'm always greeted with a smile, I'm in and out in under 5 minutes, and you can't beat their prices. They make the whole process seamless and even fit the bikes to your hight for you. They provide you a lock and suggest fun routes right from the shop. My mother and I rode from the shop all the way to the ocean institute in Dana point and back! We never once had to go on a busy road and even stopped for brunch on the harbor. We rented bikes for 2 hours and was able to ride past the pier then to Doheny beach and back. We would recommend a little grease because the bikes were a little squeaky though. The staff was very friendly and offered knowledge when it came to the proper seat height, which was appreciated. I think next time we would rent for additional time so we weren't as rushed to get back. read more

I took a very NOT high end bicycle here that I had been trying to adjust the rear derailer on for several hours with no success. I brought the bicycle here and Pete looked at it, put it on the rack and had it adjusted, working perfectly, within minutes. 11/10 would recommend. Due to Sears (not these guys) forgetting to ship my new ebike with a seat clamp, I had to go purchase one for myself. The staff was super friendly, and since I wasn't able to properly measure what size seat clamp I needed, I brought my bike with, though it was stuck in the car since the chain had jammed so they let me borrow their calipers to figure out what size I needed and the price was super reasonable too! Good Solid Bike Shop: The knowledgeable owner can guide you to the right bike or accessory at a reasonable price. Repairs and maintenance are competent and friendly. It's also the only shop in town that rents bikes, and is located on the Pacific Coast Bike route. I rented various types of bikes to give them an extended trial, and the rental charges were applied against the purchase price of the ones I ultimately settled on. I have purchased two bikes here. This shop does not have gigantic inventory, nor will it sell you a bike for peanuts. It competes with Big Box--and with the other shops in town--on the basis of the competence and integrity of the proprietor. Owner Pete not only has an encyclopedic knowledge of the bicycle universe, but also works tirelessly in political circles as an advocate for the interests of cyclists. read more

Great place to rent, not expensive and it's a good time with the family riding down to Dana Point

Didn't really like the guys attitude or snarky remarks. I also didn't like that you can only put a kids seat on a men's bike because " daddy usually takes the kids and mommy gets a bike with a basket to carry all the kids things" what about single mothers, lesbians, couples with more than one kid? Also he told me "kids can only last an hour" trying to talk me out of 2 hours. Like he knows my kid better after an hour and a half she was begging to stay longer. But other than the guy and the fact that me a short woman had to use a men's bike with a kid seat.(I couldn't sit on the seat and reach the ground it was so tall, even with the seat completely down.) I would go back to this place because the prices were good. The selections were not bad and it Is in a convenient location. read more

FAULY EQUIPMENT AND BAD SERVICE. BEWARE OF SAFETY. Came here to rent electric bicycles. One of them turned out to be faulty and the electric pump was broken. It almost knocked one of us out of the bike because of the faulty boost. After coming back to the shop, the shop attendant told us that he was aware that the bike had issues and had been informed by prior customers, without giving any kind of apology. His attitude was very nonchalant, as if this was standard. Why would the shop purposely rent out faulty bikes and knowingly endanger their customers? This has never happened to us or to any other bike shops we've been to. Just be careful! read more

I called to ask what they would charge to assemble two electric bikes we were buying from Costco. The man (owner?) was rude and said he'd never work on bikes bought at Costco. We went to SC Electric Bikes and they were pleasant and happy to help. Funny thing is; we ended up canceling our Costco bike order and spending more than 5000. on two electric bikes w/accessories with SC Electric Bikes and they now have a loyal customer. I was visiting San Clemente for the first time and wanted to ride while here for the weekend. I called the week before arriving and they were super helpful. I decided to rent a road bike for one day which I found out was a full 24 hours. I was able to get a ride in on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning before returning the bike. They had SPD pedals, so I brought my shoes and helmet (although they had helmets available). It was my first time riding in California and it was so much fun! I couldn't believe how many bike ways and paths are everywhere. Easy to get around and beautiful to ride with the mountains on one side and the beach on the other. I would definitely recommend this bike shop and appreciate how helpful and friendly they are! read more

I purchased an ElliptiGo from here after renting one. Pete, the owner, was very helpful and set it up for me, adding a computer and both forward and rear lights. After a mechanical problem developed in the gears, he exchanged it at no charge; he also replaced the swing arms due to a factory recall... again at no charge! He is very bike savy and teaches bike safety and maintenance, and is a prominent advocate for rider friendly bike routes in the San Clemente area. Glad I found a shop that is decicated to helping people, instead of the large shops where only sales are their purpose. read more

Doing service on my bike at Pete shop was the worst experience ever. My friend dropped my bike off at this location during my vacation, he also picked it up without checking if a bike was serviced correctly. After I came back from my vacation I wanted to ride a bike, however I could not because some noise was coming out the wheels. When I checked the front wheel i noticed that one of the spokes was wired into the hub. I was trying to fix this by myself but I couldn't. Thus I decided to go on Saturday to Pete's shop and showed him the pictures of the wheel. He said that it was my fault, he argued with me that I did this. No none was riding the bike since it was picked up from the shop. He was so angry, very rude and insulting. Probably he experienced a lot of clients who lied him but not everybody is the same. My bike was received this way and was just come to fix this not argue with the people who is right or wrong. Finally he fixed the bike but this was very unpleasant experience for me and I would never ever come back to this place to do the service on my bike. read more

This bike rental shop is located right across from a large public lot and the Metrolink train station. We paid for parking and walked in on Memorial Day at noon with 4 people and in about 10 minutes we had checked out the single-speed beach cruiser for $14 for 2 hour ride down past the San Clemente pier on the beautiful Coastal Trail, stopping at Calafia Beach Café for shaved ices and soft serve ice cream! This was a great activity to do and the trails are flat -the bikes were in decent shape and had wire baskets to hold water bottles and extra stuff (wire grid is open so sunglasses may fall through, bring a bag for small items). They also have refrigerated Gatorade and a few other drinks/water inside the bike shop. Hourly price (including helmet) starts at $9 per hr. and goes down with longer rentals. The only downside is there is very little free parking in the area but the public lot is not too bad ~$1.50 per hour. read more
