Stumbled upon Bienvenue with a customer and glad I did. It's become a go to for my dad for his annual Oyster Po Boy on his birthday. My choices have varied on each visit but when they have them, the BBQ shrimp Po Boy is quite tasty. The servers there are friendly and quick and keep checking on you. It's a neighborhood restaurant and it shows as it seems everyone is a friend once inside. Give it a try if you're looking for something comforting. read more

Bienvenue translates as "welcome" in French and they definitely welcome you here with their delicious offerings of contemporary Creole cuisine and variety of fresh Southern dishes. This Creole restaurant is noted for their great daily specials and is very popular for their brunch lunch and dinner offerings. They also have quite a notable burger you might also consider sampling. Getting to Bienvenue on a Sunday morning was a little underwhelming. What brunch place is dead on Sunday morning? I liked the vibes - the low volume music, the wood accents - but there were hardly any other people. The reason for that, I can only assume, is the food. Everything was fine - nothing actively bad and each item was fairly well cooked - but it was all under seasoned. The best thing was the toast followed by the crab cake Benedict. But overall everything seemed pretty under salted. So it is probably a great place to go if you're watching your salt intake. read more

Okay, off the bat, I would've never thought to go here only because it's in the middle of nowhere. HOWEVER, it was freaking so good! This restaurant is like a Cajun Creole concept family friendly type. Definitely something for those days you don't want to cook. The service was good, fast and efficient. Food was comforting especially the steak sandwich. It wasn't a typical steak sandwich, shaved steak pressed but it was phenomenal with the au jus. I could've drank that au jus. I've been twice and both times everything we tried had great flavor! I was on the fence about the fresh fish with cream sauce because of the corn in the sauce. I do wish you could order without the corn, but it doesn't seem to affect the flavor. One of our family members said the hamburger steak is the best he's ever had. Discovered this place by accident on the Yelp app. We had never been here or heard anyone mention it. My wife and I like trying new places. We were pleasantly surprised. The menu looked good and our food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and customer oriented. The place is not fancy but reminds of old buildings in the uptown and Tchoupitoulas area. The place is not overly noisy and you can have a conversation without raising your voice. Our server was Sidney and she was a pleasure. The parking is little tight but manageable. I came here for brunch this past weekend with a few friends. Crawfish beignets and blue crab, spinach, and artichoke gratin... PERFECTION. The crab cake Benedict was yummy. My biggest disappointment of the dish was the poached eggs. They weren't runny and weren't actually poached. They were cooked in what seemed like a a ramekin. The side was enough potatoes to serve a small family, but they were nice and crispy. I ordered a mimosa but it tasted like 90% orange juice, which was unfortunate. This was my first time checking out this restaurant. First I ordered the shrimp étouffée. The roux was a seasoned well, but a bit too salty for me. I didn't try the catfish platter with french fries and garlic bread. That was pretty tasty. My mom ordered the oyster po-boy which she enjoyed. The service was really good. This place was delicious. The Marrone sandwich is amazing. The 12 inch is enough for two people to share. The onion rings were spot on. Crab cakes are way more crab than stuffing. Previous visits I have gotten the the hamburger steak which was fine and the big easy wrap similar to what Popeyes use to have. Hubby got the voodoo shrimp and grits and said it was pretty good. This place was pretty decent! Came here for lunch and I had the Swiss shroom burger with a side of fries while my husband had the jambalaya pasta. The burger was delicious to me - cooked perfectly to medium rare as I requested but the fries were a little too crunchy and fried to me. And that's not to say that others wouldn't like them, they're just not my preference of fries. The jambalaya pasta was very liquidy and cheesy but again, not to say others wouldn't like that but just not our preference. All in all, it's a good place and the service was great. The shrimp wrap was very tasty and the Mac and cheese is delicious. The New Orleans wrap was just okay. A lot of red beans and rice, which made the chicken soggy. The sweet potato fries were good. My main dislike was that on the side of each piece of wrap there was this one-inch thick piece of just rolled up tortilla, which so just left on the plate. I was hunting for an accessible lunch spot on a Saturday with the parents. Someplace that did plate lunches and not just sandwiches and this place was a great homey choice. There is a ramp into the restaurant so it was easy for my seniors to access. The menu had enough variety to keep us all happy. Mom had the cochon de lait cuban and loved it. Dad had the hamburger steak and I had the fried shrimp plate. Our food was all tasty and well-prepared. The portion size was good and we had leftovers for them. I had been to Bienvenue on Hickory once before with my husband last year. We had two burgers and split them in half so we could each have some. We had the Hangover Burger and the Tailgater Burger. We also had the fried shrimp with blackberry jam. These dishes were so good, that we were excited to get them again! Fast forward to last week: We wanted to go out to eat before seeing a movie. We talked up Bienvenue to our friends, but after reading some recent reviews, I saw they had a new chef and our favorite items on the menu were not there anymore. I still had hope and decided to take our friends. We had the Almond Crusted Gulf Shrimp to start with the Crystal Onion Rings. The Almond Crusted Shrimp tasted like there was no seasoning in the batter. It wasn't that bad when paired with the apple slaw, but it definitely wasn't as flavorful as the last time we had fried shrimp here. The Crystal Onion Rings were ok, but also once again, not very flavorful. There was only one burger on the menu, and it was just a regular burger (we didn't order it). My husband and I decided to split the Combo Fried Seafood Platter and our friends ordered the Dumpsta Fries and the Jambalaya. I felt bad that I had been saying Bienvenue was so good to my friends when I could tell they felt the food was pretty "meh." The meat on the Dumpsta Fries was pretty dry and the blue cheese pairing felt a little forced. The Jambalaya was very watery and our fried seafood platter needed more seasoning. Decided to try this place on a weeknight whim and was not disappointed. Huge portions, decent prices and tasty options. Started with the boudin balls and they were HOT (and delicious). "Mile High" Sandwich was, indeed, a mile high. Had to take half of it home, but it made for excellent leftovers. Staff seemed a bit rushed (which was odd since the place was essentially empty) but that's pretty easy to overlook with food this good. Looking forward to returning. read more

We were under the impression that it would be open until 9 pm, but when we arrived at 8:10, the doors were already locked and the staff had gone home. We had been looking forward to spending our evening at this restaurant, and feel as though we were misled about the hours that the restaurant was actually open. When we called to see why the employee on the phone said they closed because they had no customers. That's poor business and if they continue this practice they won't be around too much longer. I hope in the future that the staff can be more reliable about their stated hours of operation to avoid disappointing customers. read more

I hear they are in the midst of ownership transition so there is no more piano bar nights here as far as I know and the large aquarium that used to be below the bar is gone. I must say the decor is nice though. It feels like an uptown dive bar feel but very welcoming. I came here for lunch and the experience was ok. The service was excellent and very attentive. The food was hit and miss. I ordered the fried bang bang shrimp wrap, which was just ok. I have had a better bang bang shrimp dish at Bonefsh Grill. The boudin balls were just not very good. I feel it is unfair to compare boudin from the boudin capital in Scott, LA, but that is unfortunately what I compare boudin to and it just was not good. There is only a handful of places in NOLA that can really make good boudin balls like Gillory's or Freret Beer Room but this is not one of them. The asparagus was overly pickled and I generally do like pickled foods. The onion rings on the other hand are what I may come back for. Those things were thin and had such a nice light batter on them with a delicious dipping sauce. I really enjoyed those so much. The other two people I was with ordered a catfish sandwich and another sandwich which they both enjoyed. Stopped in on our way to swamp tour and I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. Wish I had a microwave at the hotel to eat leftovers tomorrow. I absolutely love Bienvenue! The few times I have eaten here have definitely been memorable because of their delicious and traditional takes on southern and creole cuisine. I feel as though their prices are reasonable for the quality of their food and the staff has great recommendations! This was my first time dining at Bienvenue. We had a party of 2 for dinner. Service was okay. Not a big deal, but the server had the personality of a table! Being familiar with the fact that most local restaurants believe the more salt they use the better, this is NOT the case for me. I asked the server to please tell kitchen not to add any additional salt to my meal. I ordered the Drum stack, fish layered with crab cakes and topped with a cream sauce. The presentation was , and the overall meal was tasty, although I couldn't really enjoy the food. The salt overpowered the taste of the meal. My friend had the pasta jambalaya. I should have written this review a while back, but I kept going back to try another item on the menu. We've eaten out on the patio when the evening weather was cooler, in the bar area, and the main dining room. They all have their good points. First meal there was their awesome shrimp platter. Second time I thought I would try their catfish. Went back to the shrimp platter the next time. When I don't want seafood, I've been bouncing back between the Marrone which is a 12" prime rib French dip poor boy and the Canal Street Club wrap which is bacon, turkey, ham and provolone cheese topped with a honey creole mustard. Both sandwiches are great. It just depends on what you are hungry for at the time. I tend to upgrade and get the onion rings over the fries. We keep coming back for more. read more

Contacted this place the next day and was told "call back in an hour we're busy". Started off with the Almond Shrimp - the batter is lite and crispy, the sauce of slightly sweet but compliments well. The Apple slaw is sooo good!! I had the HUGE combo platter with fries and Mac n cheese was delicious. The fries were fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and delicate on the inside. My husband had the Mile High, he said we weren't leaving until he finished the whole thing. My 2 year old munched from my seafood platter and he relied with "delicious!" With every bite!!
