I arrived on a Saturday evening, right on time for my reservation and was told there was nothing available at the moment but I was welcome to wait on the patio. It was 105* and while they have misters that was not acceptable. I was then told I could stand inside until they were able to seat me. There were 2 vacant tables inside, a large 6-top and a small 2-top. When I asked about the vacant table, the hostess responded that it was being held for someone with a reservation. When I pointed out I had a reservation, she just shrugged. Eventually, I was directed to a seat at the bar. I generally don't mind sitting at the bar, but ask me. Don't assume it's okay. So the evening was off to a rocky start, and only went downhill from there. As I sat at the bar, completely unacknowledged for 10 minutes, 3 staff members were fiddling with the remote control to put something on the TV. Not sure why it took 3 people, but whatever. I had looked forward to dining here for months. I ordered a beer, and it was good. I was then presented with a photo copied piece of paper, that was the menu they were offering, 3 sandwiches (no sides) and a sausage dish. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the individual who served me the beer and politely asked why there was no notice anywhere that it was a limited menu, I mean you were able to text me the day before about my reservation, you can't advise people you're only offering a limited menu? The server had the audacity to tell me it was my fault I didn't check the website or IG. Well, I'm not active on IG but as I was sitting there drinking my beer, waiting on my order, I did check the website. And there in it's glory was the full menu. Nothing on the page indicating anything different. Okay, I'll just roll with it. So I drink my beer, did I mention I ordered a litre, it's a big beer, and still I wait. And wait some more. Finally a different server approached me asking if everything was okay. At this point I had maybe an inch left in the bottom of the beer stein, and it had been probably 40 minutes since I placed my order. I mentioned to the server how long I had been waiting, she said she would check on it, but it was set in front of me before she could even check. I mentioned I was disappointed with the way the evening was going asked if the owner was available. Before I even had an opportunity to try the dish, the first server I encountered saw me speaking to her co-worker, grabbed my plate and stein and screamed "Get the fu*k out." I told her I wasn't speaking to her. Again she screamed GTFO. A woman came out of the kitchen and identified herself as the owner. When I tried to talk to her about it, it was evident her command of English was very limited and all she would say was "she's my team," in reference to the foul mouthed server. I'm not sure how much she understood. The nasty server threatened to call the police. I invited her to do so. I did absolutely nothing wrong. Eventually I was approached by a man in a chef coat who identified himself as Matthew, the Executive Chef. I agreed to follow him outside. I shared my experience with him, my disappointment with the evening, and how utterly flabbergasted I was to be treated the way I was. He agreed that was unacceptable and asked if I would give him the opportunity to fix it. I agreed and he took my name and number and said he would reach out in a couple of days...I'm still waiting, *crickets*
I'm no stranger to the food service industry both as an employee and a diner, and I have NEVER been treated so poorly. I was nothing but polite, I didn't raise my voice until I was screamed at, and I never used any foul language. Tucson desperately needs a good German restaurant, and I hope they get their act together, but they will do it without my business. I really had hoped they would have tried to fix it, but I realize in retrospect, they don't care. read more
