Fri. 7/3/26 We had looked forward with eager anticipation to the opening of Biergarten & made a lunch reservation a couple of weeks later. Naturally we perused the menu on their website to know what we wanted to order. The first thing I noticed was that there were no prices listed. I probably should have checked on Yelp first to see if any patrons included pics of the menu (they did) though regardless, we had made our choices. We arrived on time, were promptly seated. The staff were friendly, efficient & the wait time for food was about 40 min from order to table which was reasonable. I was taken back a bit by 'sticker shock' at some of the prices; for example, the 'sampler plate' was $63, even though it was meant for sharing. Not being Elon Musk, I found that a tad overpriced, as was for me, the Rouladen $40 and $8 for a side of red cabbage. Seriously. $8? This would have been a moot point if the food lived up to the hype & price, but alas! I ordered the Rouladen (stuffed beef rolls) thin braised beef wrapped around a combo of bacon, mustard, onions & pickles, then smothered in a brown gravy accompanied by two bread dumplings & red cabbage. The golf ball sized pair of dumplings were in a word, stodgy. Dense, thickly gooey & chewy with little discernible seasoning to uplift it from the bland, boiled dough texture it presented. The red cabbage was....eh. As for the main item, the beef, bacon, onions were overpowered by the dominant taste of pickle, so the rolls as a whole, couldn't be appreciated plus the gravy did nothing to compensate or impress. This was not a WOW meal. My wife got the small German meatball which included potato salad $24 with a side of red cabbage $32 total. She found the potato salad to be mushy (looking like mashed potatoes), not anything like her grandmother made for her as a child. She recalls it was chunky with onion and hard boiled egg. If these were included in the restaurant dish, she could not taste it. In addition, both the potato salad and the red cabbage lacked a good portion of vinegar. We decided to share a desert & opted for the apple strudel, because the Beesting cake which we wanted, was unavailable. Not being a strudel aficionado I defer to my wife's opinion, which was that the piece was overheated with less than flaky dough. Nothing to rave about. For $11 a slice, one should be able to discern a fresh home made pastry from say, a box of Entenmann's. So, for a lunch for two, with no beer or wine & one shared desert, the bill came, with tax & tip. To just over $100. Bottom line: too high a price for unmemorable fare. read more

Been wanting to try this for a while. It's popular and we still had to wait about 15 minutes although we had a reservation. It's not a place to relax and enjoy a nice dinner out. We had our food within 10 minutes of ordering- before our appetizers came. Uncomfortable chairs if you are lucky to get a chair, otherwise you sit on a bench. Food was just ok. The food and atmosphere are delightful. I used to live in Germany and it brought me back. The Schnitzel and frites are good and the beer tastes exactly like it does in Germany. It is on the pricier side but since they have to import items it makes sense. I would definitely go back when I have a hankering for Germany. read more

Wife and I sure was looking forward to the grand opening of Biergarten we were looking forward to enjoying a dish of Sauerbraten which we had dinner was good we did enjoy it . However $ 34.99 a Tucson price to high we come from N.Y. Reichenbach Hall a german resturant in Manhattan the same meal is $34.49. Do the owners of Biegaten think they are in N.Y. wife and I both feel for Tucson price is to high. read more

Well we finally made it to the Biergarten last week. My wife was born in Nuremberg Germany. We were looking forward to authentic German food. The prices are steep for what you get. My order was the jager schnitzel. My wife ordered the Nuremberg bratwurst sandwich. My favorite dish is Roladin, but I wasn't going to pay $39 for a small plate. My food was OK, nothing to write home about. The brown mushroom sauce was a let down. My wife's Nuremberg bratwurst was not Nuremberg bratwurst. We won't eat there again. Scott and Jutta read more

Reservations will get you to the front of the line, as this is a very busy place -- even at 11AM opening time. Greeter indicated that we were on the periphery of a reservation -- we didn't have one -- but would seat us, hoping that both us and those coming after us could be accommodated. She was very nice about it so we politely regarded her "casual warning", and left approximately 45 minutes later after lunch. Waiter was EXCELLENT and friendly. Tables fill the restaurant and clientele fill the tables! The bar is also full. Some even ate outside (100+ degrees) under the canopies! They appeared to be served as quickly as those inside. Schnitzel is very good, as well as their potato salad. Good idea to try out this place. It may become a favorite in Tucson, based on comments we heard in line and the number of folks who arrived at 11AM. No fun to stand in line during summer temps. The food is ok, flavored well and we did get served quickly. The price is high for the strip mall atmosphere. I expected better. They need to dim or at least warm up the lighting and stark white walls; it feels unwelcoming and the acoustics need improvement. Not sure when or if we will go back. It was very uncomfortable. Like a quick mart. The staff was nice but it didn't make up for it. If you go, make a reservation (we did) or you sit at the bar or wait awkwardly in front of the kitchen door. read more

Well. I come from a German family, and I've had plenty of German food in my life, and as much as I was hoping this place would be amazing, because I have missed having a German restaurant in this town, sadly, it wasn't. The food was mediocre, and the prices were way too high. The red cabbage was undercooked and the sauerbraten was too dry. Plus, I only got two small slices on an entire plate. The spatzel and gravy were good, but those are two things that would be pretty hard to mess up. I heard members of the staff actually speaking German, so technically I'm sure they know what they're doing, I think they just need to get their act together a little better. And lower their prices, because unfortunately, I don't plan on going back. Which makes me sad. read more

German beers on tap, excellent and authentic food, German World Cup soccer, Aperol Spritz... I've died and gone to heaven. And in Tucson!!! Listen y'all- be patient with the staff. They've just opened, and they still have their sea legs. I will DEFINITELY be back. I wanted to try this place so much that I actually came alone. First we got there just after noon and were seated. Our two sausages on buns came at 1:30. We ordered the free fries to go with. No fries arrived. No sauerkraut despite it being part of the sandwich as described on the menu. A paltry smattering of fried onions on the small serving of bratwurst on an empty white plate. For $18.95. A sausage and a beer for $30 with tip. Crazy! It is crowded tables bunched together like a beer garden I suppose. But poor service, not very good bratwurst sandwich and way overpriced led to a big disappointment. I give it 2 stars out of sympathy for our waitress. The servers cannot hear you to get the orders correct. The music is unbearably loud and you cannot even have a conversation with your table mates. We asked several times for them to lower the volume. The food was decent, but I would have expected German mustard to be a staple on the tables. They charged us $2.00 for 2 tablespoons of brown mustard. The Jagerschnitzel was way too thick to be traditional. Bratwurst was good. Braised cabbage was good. Unfortunately, since our part couldn't even hold a conversation, we probably won't be back. read more

I just got back from a trip to Munich a few weeks back, and I have to say that Biergarten is the closest thing to authentic German food in Tucson. Very tasty and good portions. We went here today for lunch with friends. They were very kind and accommodating and modified some seating to accommodate my friends physical needs. The food was served quickly and was appetizing. The schnitzel was thin and very lean pork however didn't appear to have been pounded so that it was tough. I thought it was a bit underseasoned as well. We ordered two sides of purple cabbage, and it was good however, we thought a little expensive. We would've liked to have stayed and visited a little longer however, all the tables were occupied and indifference to other diners we left. The interior was a bit noisy, making conversation a little more difficult. The German potato salad was served cold and we normally expected it to be warm. We did order a small pretzel and it was very good and the mustard with it was excellent warm. I would be interested in going again to try the bratwurst since we didn't try at this time. read more

Place was crowded and noisy. Tables are all butted up next to each other. So I had no elbow room between me and the party next to us. Felt like a swamp cooler because it was warm in the dining area. Food was expensive, $17 for a beer brat sandwich? No fries! The sandwich was not that good. The bread was hard, the brat was not very flavorful and they skimped on the meat. After hearing all the hype about this restaurant my wife & I were excited about our dinner reservations. Including the well deserved gratuity we spent $120+ on a dinner that consisted of (2) beers (2) desserts and (2) full size entrees that were a Cordon Bleu (Stuffed Chicken Schnitzel) and a Jäger Schnitzel (Hunters Chicken Schnitzel). The side dishes of potato salad and fried noodles were very good, but the so called schnitzels were basically fried chicken cutlets with the Cordon Bleu lacking the stuffing expected for the price we paid for the entree. The service and atmosphere were excellent. And seeing the hands on owner working as hard as her staff was wonderful to see. My opinion is that we will only be back for the beer and possibly an appetizer or pretzel but nothing more, The cost of our meal did not match our anticipation and expectation. read more

We went the first week they were open so we expected they might have some issues to work out. What we didn't expect was them coming out to tell us, an hour and a half after we ordered, that they ran out of food. Meanwhile I had inquired twice about the status of our dinner. For our trouble, we were offered a free dessert the next time we come. Really, a free dessert?? Not comped drinks (we had one glass of wine and one beer) or a future meal, should we ever give it another chance. We ended up eating at Filiberto's. our server was rude and unapologetic. my drink didn't taste like much of anything. the food was ok, but not something i would go back for. i'm sorry i hate saying all these things, but it is factual. right from the start too, the menus were sticky and dirty; should've know that was a red flag. the place was lacking the welcoming and warmth one would get from a family owned establishment. i didn't get to meet the owner, however i thank him for his food and letting us try out his place. best of luck to you sir! read more

My sister and brother-in-law and I went for an early dinner on June 18, within weeks of the grand opening. We made a reservation and were seated quickly by a host with a great personality. The place was completely packed, including their bar and outside area. The World Cup was on the TV's and the atmosphere was upbeat and the decorations are very nice. The food did take a while, but WOW! was it worth it! My sister and I shared the pork schnitzel with spaetzle and mushroom gravy and ordered very generous sides of red cabbage and German potato salad. My BIL had a schnitzel sandwich and red cabbage and German Potato salad as well as a lovely German beer. I'm picky about my German food and found all BUT the potato salad to be absolutely excellent. We finally made it to the Biergarten...NEVER AGAIN!!!! The potato pancakes were just a plate of hash browns...not crispy completely tasteless and a tad greasy! NOT POTATO PANCAKES...hash browns. The beer brat sandwich was tasteless and the bun was stale. We originally were going to have dessert afterward but the food was so disappointing we changed our minds. All the plates coming out were grey...absolutely no color...just grey. The music was awful and loud the acoustics are terrible. Outrageous pricing! We went there for lunch. I am german from Schwaben in the South-West part of Germany. I cook a lot of the recipes that were offered on the menu, the Kaesspaetzle are not authentic. On a regular basis, I am cooking the authentic Allgaeuer Kaesspaetzle for my american husband and friends. They love it. The ones on the menu don't measure up. The potato salad was tasteless and too chunky. The Wiener Schnitzel too dry. The Apfelstrudel also didn't taste right, it was not warm, authentically it is served with vanilla sauce poured over it- here there was only a sprinkle on it. it is overpriced. Given that there are quite a bit of regional differences in german recipes- in my opinion the quality is not worth the money. read more

We visited 2 weeks ago and left as they were out of numerous food items and beers. Went today and only seating was at the bar which was fine. Beers were ordered and we waited 45 minutes for a burger and brat... burger wasn't ordered apparently and waited another 20 minutes! Staff great. Ran out of several items. Doesn't meet my expecations of same dishes I ate in Germany and Poland. The biers were wonderful. Disappointed that they didn't have wiener schnitzel (veal). Strudel was not flaky. Potato salad was mushy. Besides these comments I would go back in fairness to them. Think maybe they didn't plan the amount of people going there very well and that it was overwhelming and cooking was rush rush rush. The Tasteful Tucsonan - review of Biergarten... This new German restaurant popped up in the last couple of months, and we were very excited to try it. We had to make a reservation a week in advance, as they have been booked up like crazy. After visiting a nearby local winery, we finally arrived, ready to try some homemade German cuisine. This is a rarity in our town! We did call and let them know we were going to be about 10 minutes late but no one answered the phone, so we left a message, asking them to hold our table, which was promised to be a quiet table against the wall. Needless to say, we were dismayed when we walked in, to see a very casual cafeteria style eatery, with tables crammed in extremely close together, and no impressive decor whatsoever -- just some fake plastic ivy slapped up here and there along with a poster depicting a scene in Germany. They weren't even playing German music; there was a strange mix of pop songs instead, taking away even more from the atmosphere. They sat us at a table right inside the front door, so that all the people standing and waiting were right on top of us, with no breathing room. Apparently, they had given away our table to another couple that just walked in. It took quite a while for the waitress to come over and take our drink orders, so we ordered the food right away, after requesting that we move to the table next to us, so at least we weren't being crowded by everybody standing and waiting. The waitress was friendly enough, but as we sat and waited, sipping our beverages, we watched people who arrived after we did and who ordered after we did all get their food before us. Easily 30 or 40 minutes later, we finally asked what was going on. We got a bunch of excuses, and we were told that they were waiting on the spaetzel. That was a complete lie, since the table next to us also got spaetzel, arrived and ordered after we did, and had their appetizers and then their entrées before we got any food at all. The waitress offered to go back and get an ETA for our food, which she should have done on her first trip back to the kitchen once we had inquired about all of this. We were about to pay for our drinks and leave when the food finally came. I had the wurst sample platter. Two out of three were delicious, the third was kind of strange. Not sure which was which. The Rouladen was tough and overpriced. The spaetzel was good and the mushroom gravy was also good. When it was time to pay the check, I told the waitress that we didn't want to ever come back. She said we had the right to our opinion, but that we had to remember this was not a Texas Roadhouse and everything was made from scratch. I found that insulting and tried to tell her we do not eat at chain restaurants, and she wasn't even listening. If everyone was waiting a long time for their food, that would be understandable. But you don't serve someone their entire meal when they came in and ordered later than us. The whole thing was handled poorly, and the food was just not worth the price and the horrible atmosphere. They really need to get their act together, and it's not about just being new. It's about simple good customer service and common sense. And maybe spend a buck or two on your décor, so customers won't feel like they are dining in a K-Mart or Walmart I give this restaurant a C minus. read more

I used to live in Vienna, and I miss those wonderful cafes with the impeccable service and delightful Wiener schnitzels, Tafelspitz, and Apfelstrudel. It was a long drive to the Tucson Biergarten. The menu offered a limited idea of German cuisine and was pricey. I was long finished with my half pint of beer when I realized it had been a long wait for my expensive snack (not a real meal). I looked at my watch and decided I would wait another 25 minutes. I will continue to dream of the cafes abroad. The Biergaden ain't it. read more

I tried them on Sunday, 6/28 at 6 PM. I saw none of the bad things from earlier reviews. Even at this time, plenty of food and beers. They are extremely popular, so make a reservation - maybe a day or two in advance. Walkins got seated on the patio. As to food - very German and good. Service was exceedingly good and food came out quickly. We had a pretzel, Jaegerschitzel and saurbraten. Can't wait to go back to try other options!
