There are many things to love about this place. The people, the food, the atmosphere, the drinks. I have been coming here for a minute now and I've gotten to know a few of the people really well. On one occasion, a few days ago, I come in to have something to eat. One of their summer specials is the Spicy Whitefish dip. I enjoy spicy food and am on a no meat kick, so this works perfectly. I order it an am less than impressed. I make it known to Mark, the manager, and he brings the cook out for us to have a conversation. I inform him that it wasn't spicy and although the bowl was hot, the dip wasn't. I return a few days later and while talking to Tiff, one of the many amazing bartenders, Mark comes over to me with the cook and tells me the dip is going to be remade and it's going to be free. Nice surprise!! The dip was AMAZING. Spicier than the first time, hot (in a cool bowl) and just the right amount of chips. If you've never visited this place, drop in, have a drink and speak to some of the friendliest people you'll meet. Tara, Molly, Jordyn, Tiff, Quinn, Justin, Mark, Kenny and a host of others!!! By far one of the best bars in Taylor/Southgate...not only for just the drinks, but for the food, service, entertainment, and overall atmosphere!! I recommend the corned beef spring rolls which taste amazing and perfectly cooked! Their beer selection is awesome and they have great craft cocktails! Entertainment is always great and the atmosphere is so friendly, warm, and inviting it makes you never want to leave!! Not to mention they have brunch which includes create your own bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary's! Bringing this hipster bar to downriver was the right idea. This is based on beer and service only. We came in for a couple beers after a huge dinner elsewhere, so we didn't even really look at the food menu. Their beer selection is amazing! The menu is nicely divided into the different styles of beer, and there are so many to choose from. They have something for everyone! The prices are super reasonable. Ordered two draughts. Came here for lunch after church; the first time it wasn't too packed to get it. The food is amazing, standard bar fare with a flavorful twist. We got the cutting board, which was great, although the prosciutto was not cut thin enough. I had the Hamembert, which was amazing. Even my father-in-law, who is a meat and potatoes guy, loved the fried apple and cheddar kielbasa. A nice selection of craft beers plus a good selection of imports, which are often ignored in beer bars today. The only issue is that this is definitely designed as an adult place, no high chairs or kids menu, but not unexpected. And we did not get any negative attention when we showed up with a toddler and an infant. read more

Not really a German restaurant/bar ... more like an American restaurant/bar with German beers. However, Bierkeller has a truly excellent beer selection and excellent beer prices. Absolutely worth being a "destination" tavern just for the selection and prices alone. Kudos for having the 1 Litre mugs of beer, (the beer glass called a Maßkrüge) at excellent prices, too. read more

We were really excited to try Bierkeller when they opened up and we were not disappointed. They have a great selection of beers on tap and the service was very friendly. They're still getting things sorted out, so there were a few issues. For example, when I ordered a hefeweizen that was on their giant chalk board (I can't remember the brand) the bartender said that it only came in a bottle. I said that that was fine. She then brought me a completely different beer. This happened again later to my husband. Eventually we looked around and saw that the beers we had ordered were in fact on tap. So I think they are going through some growing pains, but be patient and just go with the flow and things will be good. The food is German with an American twist. We split a grilled cheese that had sauerkraut and sausage on a sourdough bun. It was very good but greasy. Most things on their menu are greasy so don't expect to find too many healthier options. Overall we're very pretty happy with this place and plan on coming back soon to try more beers and menu items. read more

Not impressed with the remodel. The place is much cleaner with good friendly service. The food is typical bar food with a daily spaetzle of different flavorings. I've had 2 of them and found it to be nothing special. I like my German Spaetzle much larger in size, these are small. They have a good beer selection , many on tap. read more

I love Bierkeller, one the best bars in Taylor (probably the best). Been there several times, Bierkeller would do great in any community!! Tremendous beer selection, great service and delicious food. Truly a gold mine. Thanks for doing business in Taylor!! Used Grub hub tonight they suck!! But Bierkeller made it up with there charm and charisma. I think they provided sauces for every item on there delicious Sampler!! The Bartender suggested I use Uber eats next time, will do. Nice original idea for a bar/restaurant that was desperately needed in the area. Great beer selection, and they accommodate for vegetarians really well. Try the spaetzle. I can't believe that I am reading such great reviews about this restaurant/bar. I went there with some family friends and was highly disappointed , perhaps because it was fairly new. The service was not to our liking and the seating was was poor at best. True it is nice if you are with a group of 6 or 8 but for 2 or 4 it's a little much. The seating is picnic table style. Personally I am not a beer drinker. I prefer a nice glass of wine which was very limited. I will perhaps give it another chance when it has a chance to grow a bit more, as for now I would give it a generous 2 stars. read more

I joined Yelp with the sole intent of writing a review of this place. What an amazing, friendly, and attentive staff! We had a last minute birthday party for a friend here, and it was great. The owner and staff were conscientious and proactive, anticipating our needs before we knew what we needed ourselves. They let us bring in decorations and cake, they stored our cake in their refrigerator, got it out of the way for us when we were done with it, and surprised us by bringing it out to us nicely wrapped when we were ready to go - with clean utensils to boot! They have an amazing selection of beers, great signature cocktails, and a unique and delicious menu. We've been back several times and have never been disappointed.
