The ham & cheddar sandwich has been my favorite for years!! Every time I ask for my bagel with no tomato, and every time I get home I always have tomato on it!! I understand if it's every now and then but it's EVERY TIME!! I go when it's not busy and it's just always there! The "Best bagels around". Our Saturday morning ritual. Great way to start your day. My favorite is Swiss melt bagel, ham, egg and cheese sandwhich, or blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese. If that's not your thing, they have many varieties of bagels and cream cheeses, along with other sandwhiches and soups. It does have its busy times. If you don't see what you like check with the staff. (They are friendly and helpful). There is a chance if you have some patience that it's in the oven. Definitely worth the wait! read more

Went in today @ 12:15. They were out of almost every bagel as usual and were not making any more. They only had three left! This is a constant theme with them. Spoke with manager and she said they stop making bagels at 11:30. She said that they don't want to have left over bagels. If you own a bagel shop with almost two hours left in your business day, you should have bagels for customers. Tired of them not having product. As far as I'm concerned, I will not be going back. Nice place to stop for breakfast or grab bagel sandwich for lunch - they have a lot of breakfast & lunch sandwich options on the menu. Wide variety of bagels to choose from and a dizzying assortment of cream cheeses as well. They also have several kinds of coffee. The employees have all been friendly & helpful and our sandwiches are usually ready in about 5 minutes. The only disappointment was their muffins which we only tried once because they seemed a bit on the dry side, but I understand those are made off-site & brought in. read more

I love Big Apple Bagels! I've gotten plenty of bagels and Panera and Einstein Bros but they are no match for Big Apple for one big reason - the amount of cream cheese they put on those bagels! LOVE seeing the gigantic spoonful they smear on, so generous which is why this is my #1 bagel place. That and the selection of cream cheeses! My favorites are the cheddar bacon, veggie and chocolate chip. The staff are always so friendly too! The only less than desirable thing is the sweeter bagels like chocolate chip or cinnamon raisin, etc are weirdly on the salty side for a sweet bagel. But that won't keep me from ordering a chocolate chip bagel with chocolate chip cream cheese! read more

The bagels are good, without a doubt. The variety and quality of bagels / cream cheeses are far better than its larger chain competitors. And they have lox! Not everywhere has lox. I love it. If I was only reviewing the bagels / cream cheese I would call it 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, the wait can be incredibly long. I've seen people get halfway through the line and turn around and leave - more than once. Also, you know how places like Panera and Starbucks have a calming and sometimes inviting ambiance to them? Not here. It is all bright walls, florescent lights, and about 1000 copies of National Geographic. It makes me want to get out of there as quickly as possible...with really great bagels in hand. read more

Big Apple Bagels is one of my all time favorites, especially this location. I always come here every now and then to get the wonderful experience of both great customer service and the fulfillment from their food. They have a very wide range of absolutely delicious bagels and they even have several unique yet lovely schmears. Their muffins are actually my favorite though. A quick note, the employees here are full of friendliness and happiness which is a great start to my day when I come here for my early morning breakfast. It's always refreshing to come back here and relax as well. Big Apple Bagels will definitely always be at the top of my list. Highly recommended! read more

For no special reason, we dropped in at this place as my car windshield was being repaired nearby! WHAT A TREAT! The lady behind the counter was so accommodating, she even sliced the bagel with cream cheese in half and put it on two separate plates for sharing!! I have been a bagel affectionado for many years, but these were so far the BEST EVER ! The Apple Crisp bagel was so crunchy on outside, but so soft on inside, so hard to find that in a bagel anymore and was OUTSTANDING. The interior was so very clean and spacious and all four of the employees were so very pleasant! I was so impressed that I went back to their bakery treats and ordered one each (6-pack) of their very unusual but delicious muffins. I was told they could be frozen or did well in the refrigerator if I wanted to serve them in the next day or so. I must admit, I had the pineapple cream cheese for lunch and they were as good as they looked! A definite MUST return even if this store is 30 minutes from my house! read more

These bagels are THE BEST. Now that I've had them I cannot go back to crappy Panera bagels. They stay fresh much longer, and every flavor I have had has been delicious. I also have had a sandwich on a bagel here, which was amazing, as was the chicken Caesar salad. My only gripe is that I don't wake up at 7am, so by the time I get there I often have very slim pickings. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Awesome carbohydrate treats and mainstays, and about the best restaurant coffee available anywhere. (according to their website it is from www.brewsterscoffee.com) No! The coffee is not to the standard of SBux. It's far better! The cinnamon crumble cheesecake muffin - off the hook! (do people still say that). No it is not cheap, but you get what you pay for and then some. And as for the Friday morning staff - Friendly & always smiling behind the masks, courteous, speedy, but not rushed so as to lead to mistakes, and they remember me and my preferences every time I come in, even after a week between visits. If I have one minor quibble it is the packaging of hot sandwiches. Since they wrap a hot sandwich to-go in a plastic bag, the steam makes the sandwich soggy after a only a short period of time. So I have learned to just open the bag a bit to let it breath. Or just ask for it wrapped in paper, but I always forget to ask until its to late, so that's on me. Again - minor. I highly recommend Big Apple Bagel! A neighborhood restaurant that desires to stay afloat during these crazy times. JRP read more

I love this gem of a place! The first impression I was given is that the place was very CLEAN. I first checked out this place in May 2017 and have ordered from there 4 times since. They have really great breakfast sandwiches, "the southern" breakfast sandwich is really good, fresh, and the cheese is perfectly melted which shocks me. Also I would highly recommend the strawberry bagel with chocolate chip cream cheese. They have the best white chocolate mocha I've ever had. I suggested this place to my coworkers and they are hooked. One cream cheese I wouldn't recommend is the cucumber dill cream cheese (I believe that's what it's called)-not very pleasant for me at least. I will say Big Apple Bagels has the softest bagels I've tried. Thankful for the service this place provides overall. read more

Pros: This establishment is extremely close to home and the bagels and breakfast sandwiches are amazing. I love them. I've been a customer for a long time and I have to say, even on their busiest mornings, the staff is quick and efficient. The place is always clean too and smells amazing when you walk in. Cons: Despite being efficient, some of the staff is absolutely rude. Maybe because working there sucks, but one old blonde lady with short hair is so rude and short with me every time I come in and my friend Jim says the same thing. Like sorry you couldn't find an actual job and you're stuck serving us, but lady come on. I feel like I'm being judged when she looks at me. A couple of the younger staff, a tall boy and a short female whispered things to each other and kept looking at me and thats a universal sign that someone is talking crap about you. This place needs customer service training for sure. Also they never have juice. I went in this morning and saw the fridge was out of juice, orange and apple and all others. Horrible service from people. Went in for a simple plain bagel and stood around waiting for over 10 mins. The cashier and others decided to service the others and until i asked to be taken my order they all looked very upset. I am sitting in the Elgin location at 7:30 am astounded to find out that the 2 teenagers running this shop today didn't bother to bake any everything bagels. They have a line 10 people deep and they have no bagels. Unfortunately, the next closest bagel place is the same 15 minutes away as this location where they are now making the bagels. When I asked how long to get everything bagels, they told me they would have to bake them and then rather than going in the back and putting them in the oven, they continued to take other orders. I had to ask a second time and told them if they weren't going to bake them, we were going somewhere else. One of the girls finally went in the back. I'm shocked that there is no manager here. I am shocked at how understaffed this location is. Some of these people have been waiting 10 minutes already! If this were an isolated incident, I would dismiss it as inexperience. However, about 6 months ago my husband came to this location for bagels and the same thing happened! They were out of bagels at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Could it be just us? I doubt it. I think this place is poorly managed. It is a shame. Next time I need bagels, I'll go to Bentley's in Algonquin even though I don't like their cream cheese read more

This has been a regular spot for me, family and friends over the past 12 years (since 7th grade!). It's wonderful for a fresh bagel sandwich, you can put anything on a bagel! I have always been a huge fan of the Chocolate Chip bagel, but now really love the Cheddar Herb bagel. I don't eat cream cheese, so I can't comment on that, but they also have baked goods like cookies, muffins and brownies. Would recommend the bacon, egg and cheese on bagel of choice for a Breakfast Sandwich and for lunch, the smoked Turkey or Roast Beef is tasty. Also, if you eat in, they serve the sandwiches with bagel chips, an exciting perk! I always bring visitors to town here, love BAB's. read more

Big Apple Bagel has moved around the corner to the front of the shopping center when Walgreen's moved in. Still great bagels, sandwiches and spreads. I really prefer their bagels to Panera's. And now they have a lot more room to dine in! The only thing that bothers me is sometimes the help is a little short. I go more times at the end of the day and maybe they're just tired, but when they come to the counter to wait on you, they don't even say "what can I get for you" or any kind of greeting, they just look at you. That bugs me, but I love their bagels. read more

Definitely enjoyed my first trip to Big Apple Bagels in Elgin, and will definitely be back. This restaurant location happens to be very near to where I live, and is conveniently on my way to work- so I decided to stop in and give it a try on a Saturday morning. The place must be great, because it was really busy before 7 am on a Saturday- I can only imagine what it would be like on a weekday when everyone is up and moving. The selection here for breakfast is great- everything from bagels to pastries. They had numerous kinds of bagels to try, and the cream cheese selection was fantastic (not to mention that it was the perfect texture and temperature. The facility was cute and very open, plenty of places for everyone to sit. The location also definitely has regulars, I knew right away because the employees were asking customers if they wanted "their usual" and referring to them by name- something I loved. This place was recommended by my preceptor and it was really good! Their muffins are very soft and almost have a cupcake feel to them. I tried some of their mini muffins to taste a couple different things. I tried their chocolate cheesecake, cinnamon crumble, and double chocolate. My favorite was definitely the chocolate cheesecake which boasted their special cheesecake batter recipe. Whatever their secret is, it's working! Their bagels and cream cheese spreads look great, and if I get the chance to try this place again, that's what I'll get next time! Overall, I will try this place again if I can. read more

Very delicious! I personally just get the Egg bagel with veggie cream cheese, and a coffee...but just got hooked on one of their breakfast sandwiches (the southern tradition). Also awesome muffins, especially the chocolate cheesecake one. Great menu spread and prices are very reasonable. I have been coming here for years, and will continue to.
