Had lunch there on March 1 got there when they opened at 1130. We ordered their Friday special fish and coleslaw, hush puppies and french fries. The service was great atmosphere was appealing a small place. Very quaint. Tell there is lots of regulars definitely would recommend going lunch dinner and a great cocktail. read more

Walked in and 5 people were at the bar. My group and I are people of color and immediately got some nasty stares. Bartender came by and threw coasters at us, harassed us about our IDs. Forgot drink orders, when asked for other drinks she demanded the other glasses instead of asking nicely or serving us. Played some music that wasn't to their liking, bartender hollered at us to turn it off even though their juke box allowed it. If you are colored do not come here because you aren't welcomed. Went there with a small group on a Saturday late afternoon. Wasn't too busy! Disappointed in the food. Burgers were dry and patties were thin, fries were over cooked as well. Krystina I think is her name, was extremely rude and pompous. The bartender was nice and served our table quickly. He was the only good thing about our visit. We won't be back. We tried this place last weekend. It did not disappoint. We left feeling like we had just found a treasure. Their burgers are outstanding! Been coming to Bertha's off and on for about 4-Years now! Love this place! The new remodeling looks great, still a little smokey inside but way better than it was. My wife and I like to come here for some end of week drinks and almost always get the famous burger! Recently we tried the ribeye steaks and they were amazing. The owner has a great sense of humor, the bartenders are awesome and know how to take care of the people. My drinks are always cold, I never get to the bottom without the next one on my coaster! I never see the Chef but whoever he/she is, they cook up some damn good food. The ONLY negative thing I have to say about Bertha's is that they refuse me service of alcoholic drinks if I pull up on my Harley. I heard a past story of why, but a beer or two with my burger would be nice. read more

My husband and I stayed at LA Torreta Resort... The food at the Torreta was not that great.. So we ventured out... We saw this burger joint and loved the name so why not try it out... When we walked in it was like walking into Cheers...everyone knew everyone there... The atmosphere was a bit smoky but if you can get past that... It's a pretty cool place... It's somewhere your Dad or Granddad use to hang out at. My husband ordered the bacon cheese burger and I ordered the mushrooms Swiss... With 2 Coronas... The burgers came to us Branded BB... For... you guessed it... Bertha's Burgers... I had mine with fries and my husband had the onion rings... The food was amazing and delicious. My husband said that his burger was in his top five!! The bartender who is also the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. She told us that the beef for the burger was prime beef and that the tomatoes are homegrown. The special for the day was spaghetti and the sauce they used is homemade and the veggies they use are also homegrown. Wish we could have tasted it... I'm sure it's delicious. Well me and my aunt used to love going to this place we were regulars , But 6 months ago is when the problem started , The Owner started coming to the shop and she had the personality of a rotten piece of American cheese. (PS. I hate American Cheese i am allergic and if I eat it I will suffocate and die) Well every time I went there we would get into a argument and she made our experience worse. Also since she started coming the food is now super bad I could take straight shots of glass and it would be better then eating this utter trash. read more

Steak was very fatty and not cooked correctly. Not a family place as the inside is full of smokers and they have limited seating outside.

Was looking for a good hamburger and saw the good reviews. I stepped into the place and was overwhelmed by the smell of cigarette smoke. I had to step out. Wish someone had mentioned the smoking and I wouldn't have bothered to drive here regardless of the hamburgers. read more

As a resident of Walden, I have tried this place 3 times. Each time has been equally consistent with a 1 star rating. It's very divvy. Locals and drunks scare off patrons. The smell of smoke is so overbearing, that even getting a to-go order makes you smell like an ash tray. The bartender (woman) talks with locals and will not acknowledge anyone else. It's really a shame. You think that a small place like this would try and drum up new clients that are moving to the neighborhood, but alas, it's not happening. The decor reminds me of an old bar my great uncle use to own. Old, shabby (and not the right kind of shabby) and just outdated. The food, oh the food. The only place that has given me food poisoning from a burger. The bun was overly buttered. The lettuce was wilted. The Tomato was sad. Really sad. There was no love made to this burger. Instead of buying a fancy cast iron to brand your burger with a B... maybe put that money into some good veggies. I don't know, just a suggestion. The meat was more sad than the tomato if that is possible. I should have know when I got home (a few minute walk) and the burger was ice cold in the middle. Raw. Fries were droopy. One of my former acquaintances spoke highly of this place. I should have known that one that values the seafood restaurant down the road on 105, in Montgomery, said this place has good burgers. That in fact, was a farce. There was nothing good about this food, the catfish (on Friday during Lent) or the lasagna was going to be tasty about this place. I was actually at the gas station next door to this place and almost had a drunk hit my car as he was pulling out of his parking spot. Over serving, yes! It's happening. For my fellow Yelpers, if you are new to the neighborhood and not a regular to this place, stay away. It's not worth the smell of smoke your clothes will reek of until you wash them twice (yes, twice!) to get the smell out. The customer service lacks and it's just one place that if you value your money and time, move along to another place. read more

We ordered 3 burgers w/fries to go. All three burgers were different and they got the fixings all correct on each burger and even labeled the containers. The fries were great but all three burgers were over cooked/burned. My grandson even said his meat was "crispy" and it really was. Hands down the very best bacon cheese burger in Montogomery TX. French fries are ok, but not consistently made (sometimes either too soft or over fried). As a bar it's a small smoky atmosphere usually with an older locals crowd. Friendly bartenders and reasonably priced drinks. Was here on the conference a month ago. The place itself is ok (3 stars), food was ok too. The reason it's a one star review is because I got FOOD POISONING (first time in the United States, 7 years here). I ordered steak, fish, potatoes and cranberry juice. Two days of diarrhea and vomiting. After that, I finally was able to drink water (no food). I was able to eat normally only after a week. My wife and I were in Montgomery/Conroe for the weekend. We rented a condo on the lake & this place was only 1 mile away. We dropped by on both Friday & Saturday evening. The first night, we were only there for drinks. It was early fall & most of the patrons were locals. We chatted with several people including the owner, bartender, and a few regulars. Everyone was quite pleasant, and we found the owner quite interesting. On Saturday, we originally intended on eating at Wolfies, but after having an appetizer, we decided to go to Big Bertha's for a burger. We'd seen a couple come out of the kitchen the night before & they looked good. We certainly made the right decision. No, no, it wasn't the best burger I've ever had. I would classify it as really reasonably priced & well above average considering this place is more bar than restaurant. If asked the ultimate question, "Would you recommend this place to friends & family?" .....I certainly will! Based on the fact this place is a predominantly a bar & they allow smoking, it may not be for everyone. If you're looking for a great neighborhood bar, with fair prices & a relaxed atmosphere, check it out. read more

My wife and I came over from San Antonio to visit a friend. We stopped in at his favorite watering hole. It was a cozy bar with friendly (everyone knows your name) people. When we got hungry, our friend said they had a pretty decent grill. We had filet's that were comparable to Mortons or The Palm. The quality was outstanding. Next day we decided that if the steaks were that good, the burgers were probably pretty good. RIGHT AGAIN. I won't even mention the baby backs we took to go. What can i say? This place was absolutely adorable and very welcoming. I'm from the other side of the lake and now prefer berthas. My first time there connie was behind the bar and she was so funny and attentive. They had bingo that was a blast. The owner has a sense of humor that will make your cheeks hurt from laughing by the time you leave. Great food great people and great drinks. The bloody marys are the bomb. Love it! Guy refuses to answer phone. We called multiple times for a to go order and he didn't answer. We then walked in and tried calling again and watched him ignore the phone with 2 customers at the bar so it wasn't busy. Food is great but come on it's not hard to answer the phone. read more
