Needed something somewhat fast as I had a nail appt in less than 30 minutes in the same shopping center. Chose this spot as I had ordered delivery a few years back when I lived nearby and knew it was good. I settled on the lunch special: 2 slices with 3 additional toppings and a soda. The pizza is made to order and took just under 10 minutes. The bottom was perfectly crispy, the toppings and soft dough super fresh and the cheese was perfectly ooey gooey. I was very pleased! Keep in mind that this is mostly a pick-up and delivery shop and doesn't have much seating. I stumbled upon Big Bob's for lunch while running around doing errands this week. Wanted something quick and easy to eat so that I could keep it moving. Walking in the place, I wasn't sure what to expect. All I can say is that pizza was SO good that I returned that same night for dinner. Ask Bob the man himself. He immediately recognized me from earlier that day. Totally worth it! Not only is the pizza delicious, the service is also extremely good. Bobs best pizza... Pizza was decent granted it didn't have to be all that good to feed a bunch of kiddos. Kids will eat anything with a decent amount of cheese on it!! The peperoni and sausage had tons of grease but after a few napkin pats it was edible! They have a few seats outside which was nice. Take out and delivery!! Hey Bob! You nailed it!! If you're looking for the dark, dimly lit Italian restaurant with Chianti bottle candle holders, scary little cherub statues and the Don in the back room then this IS NOT your place. Now if you're looking for the $10 any size any topping pizza or a $5 ready now "pizza" then this still isn't your place. However if you want a great pizza with a perfect crust and more toppings than should be legal then you're there!!! I never would have found this place had it not been for a friend telling me about it. It's in a small strip mall of the beaten path but seems to have a pretty good cult following. With good cause! I'm pissed I didn't find out about it sooner. I pull up to the place and score a parking spot right in front of the door. I see a chalk board with a couple specials that seem like a pretty good deal but since I'm dining solo I pass into the place having just given the special a glance. The first thing I notice is Coke, NOT Pepsi, woo hoo!! The girl at the counter is ready for me as I walk up and I explain that I'm about to lose my Big Bob's Best Pizza virginity and I need to peruse the menu so i don't miss anything and screw myself. I decide on the lunch special (2 slices with up to 3 toppings with a bottomless soda for $6) and add an order of garlic bread. You can tell a lot about a place by their garlic bread. Canadian bacon, sausage and mushrooms please! I get a cup and retire to a table to watch the flat screen on the wall while Bob works his magic. She comes out shortly with a plate adorned with a french roll split down the middle covered with butter, garlic and a hint of parsley. I go top off my Diet Coke and wait for my pizza while I arrange the setting for my picture.. How can I make my Facebook friends jealous without a picture?! ( I make NO friends on sushi night ) My three slices (you saw it right THREE) and she explains there was a small SNAFU with the slicing so I was receiving three instead of two slices. Sadly this breaks my heart..... NOT! The second thing I notice is the plethora of toppings on each slice completely concealing the pieces themselves. I tried to make room on my place by moving a slice to the garlic bread plate and there's an avalanche of sausage and mushrooms hitting the plate as it gets relocated. I try the garlic bread as I wait for the pizza to drop a few degrees from "Lava" to something that won't scorch my mouth. It's crispy but not dry with great flavor. Just the way a good garlic bread should be!! Nice job Bob! I push the second piece of bread aside for now and dive into my pizza.. DO I shake some Parmesan cheese on it first... NO, silly. You must first try it as Bob intended. In it's purest pizza form.. It's fantastic! Not over or under sauced. Just the right amount of cheese although I'm a firm believer that there can't be too much cheese on anything! Tee crust is firm but not hard. king of spongy but not thin or thick and not (pizza hut take note) greasy. All the toppings are fresh awesome and in abundance. There was enough left over for a "Topping Salad" when I was done with my slices!! As I'm finishing up I ask about delivery and since I don't live close they said to call and see if they can pull it off and if time/business permits then Bob will bring it to me. At this point the driver on duty is in the store and swings by my table with a take out menu and a fridge magnet! I top off my soda, clean my table and make for the door thanking the staff for the great service and fabulous food. Big Bob's is not NY, not Chicago or really even the overly creative non descript California style. It's just plain good old fashioned pizza joint goodness. To those of us who grew up in the late 80's, early 90's where West Coast pizza had no identity it was all pizza parlor sit down, M&P shops with leather booths and maybe the arcade for the kids. It was the place to do sports banquets and birthday parties. It was the not so cheesy chuck e-cheese, but literally cheesy. Most kids will eat even bad to mediocre pizza and think that the now adult's pizza palate comes from the downfall of pizza from the now defunct Pizza hut style. Dominos, Little Cesears are the reason why think back to the good stuff and see BB's as throwback, more so to quality than style. They are fresh, they are packed to the gills, they are not overly done or greasy, but have some real supportive dough/crust. All too often people equate value with price and for $2 getting a monster NY thin crust heat lamp warmed may fill you for an hour while a slice of deep dish will keep you full all day is $8 it's not comparable, yet they compare a $8 little Caesars to this and compare value and price like they are the same. It's not true and it's not fair. You get a hefty amount of toppings, cheese and properly supportive crust for the money. It's not a chain, it's not mass produced for profit margins and price and exactly what you'd expect from places like KPFM which those same people wouldn't consider overpriced. You want that pizza from when you were a kid, this is as close as your gonna get. If you want the McDonalds of pizza got to Pizza Hut. They deliver, but not some huge radius so to me it's better to pick it up yourself. They don't have the greatest hours though too. There seems to be some inconsistency in the experiences here and I can agree it's not all sunshine and roses here. I had a pizza delivered half shifted, slow on the delivery, but does that negate the 5 other deliveries that were fast and specimen's? I prefer to pick it up as coming home with it and smelling it in your car does something delivery just doesn't. It's a small joint, not meant for dining with your family, it's not Italian so coming to look for linguini and clams the way many people only associate pizza's as being Italian is wrong, sure they have a ravioli dish, but it isn't called Bob's Big pasta for a reason. The basics of breadsticks, marinara, some wings and garlic knots are where their non pizza menu stops. Décor is bland and the owner Bob works most days, he's fair and helpful for the most part. I call this the "Socal Baja-med". Artichoke hearts, avocado, ricotta cheese (minus this if you get white/basil combo) topped with feta, basil and spinach, olives are optional, but it's got just enough margherita to be Italian, avocado for socal, med with the feta and olives and pretty much a super hybrid pizza I get every time. read more

With the urging of a fellow Yelper (david d), I came back here to try Big Bob's again, and once more, it did not disappoint! I ordered a couple pizzas, the Meatatarian, which was loaded with a ton of good quality meat, so much so that my wife didn't care for it because it had too much meat. Not a problem for me, as I went after the toppings she pulled off and just loaded my already overloaded slice and chowed down. But even better than the quality of the meat was the quality of the sauce, which just tastes light and very fresh, in a way of which I've not had at any other pizza place in recent memory. I think the only draw back to Bob's is that it's in a strip mall amongst the industrial buildings of central Oceanside and there's like a dozen decent pizza places on the way to it that I could go to instead, when I want a cheaper pizza. Had the lunch special, 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Each piece is made upon ordering, so you'll get it straight from the oven. You get any 3 toppings per slice, and they don't skimp on the toppings! The crust was pretty good, a bit thicker than a thin crust and the bottom was nice and crispy. Got an order of fried zucchini to go, and I thought it was better than the one you can get from Carl's Jr, as it doesn't have that weird bitter after taste. The store itself is a bit small, total seating is for around 20 people. There is a TV on the wall, if you want somewhere to go to have a pizza and watch some sports. read more

No matter how great the service or clean the establishment, I can't in all honesty admit that Big Bob's puts out a better pizza than Urbn. The pizza is thick and drowned in toppings; and toppings are cheap. The flavor is good too, but even with that being said, they're still not a match for Urbn in diversity, flavor, or ambiance. This is a place for a quick lunch at a good price. I would compare their pizza to Costco, Sbarro's, and Papa John's--that's not necessarily a bad thing. But you can't honestly say that this place can compete with Sammy's Wood-Fired Pizza or even California Pizza Kitchen, let alone Urbn. I was initially skeptical with their high-rating, so I had to try it out. We ordered a sausage roll to start and a small pie with sausage, olives and onions. So living in oceanside for about two months I'm always game to try a new spot here && there I'm not gonna lie we were reliant on Pizza Hut & dominoes & little Cesar's but that's generic and quick cheap tastes wack whatever... Bobs is very affordable. Their ingredients are fresh. They have great sliced pizza lunch deals, also at a great price. In my last 2 experiences, they have failed miserably at cooking my pizza well done after requesting and letting them know it was wrong on the last order. No excuses. I guess you cannot have crispy pepperoni at Bob's when ordering a fresh pizza. Their oven my be incapable or their employees have not been shown how to cook a pizza with crispy pepperoni. Came here for a second time since moving back to California. This time around I brought my oldest to have lunch with me. We each ordered a slice and opted for also ordering garlic twist. The twists were fresh and definitely delicious. Not over cooked and simply perfect. I had a slice of "the works" and was really amazed how loaded my slice had with ingredients. Definitely worth the cost when I have to use a fork and knife to eat my pizza. On another note, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. We ordered a pizza of our own creation. A white basil pesto sauce topping a "medium" thick crust. (Oddly they asked us what kind of crust we wanted, "Thin or Regular", but we all decided on Medium ... and that's what we went with. Not really "standard" but apparently: doable!) We topped it with chicken, garlic, red onions, and mushrooms. It was a great pizza! I would absolutely order here again. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust flavor/texture per se but it wasn't bad or anything--- just not my personal favorite. And that could easily have been due to the unusual thickness level we ordered, as mentioned above. One of my favorite things was that it wasn't excessively pricey to create my own pizza. I'm always frustrated when a pizza restaurant allows/encourages patrons to build their pizza but the prices are a deterrent and don't seem reasonable when compared to their Specialty prices... and I was happy to find that wasn't the case at Bob's! I LOVE BIG BOB's. There, I said it. Hold it against me, if you will, but that doesn't mean it's any less true. If I could eat it every day, I absolutely would. The crust is thin, but puffy, so it feels more substantial. They have the right amount of sauce, and their toppings are always fresh and they use the proper amount - no skimping here! Even better? The price. BBBP is reasonably priced, and you can often find a coupon in the Community Guide. Their pizza coupons are generally buy one, get one, so I always get the large to make the most of it and to make it last. They also deliver to my house, at the back gates of Pendleton, which doesn't happen with any other quality pizza placel The only reason that Bob's isn't getting a 5 star review from me, is that they are only only open until 8 during the week, and the delivery stops at least 30 minutes before then. I don't like eating late, but by the time I'm on my way home from work or the gym, it's after 7 and I need to know (like, yesterday) what I'm having for dinner, especially if I want it delivered. Is this worth losing a star over? Maybe not, but to me it's pretty important. read more

The toppings TASTE REAL (hint hint: because they are and it's fresh every-time!).
