This place is being reviewed on the fact that they have probably the best egg drop (egg flower) soup of any Asian, Chinese, teriyaki or whatever spot that offers it. Full of flavor and loaded with vegetables. 10/10 easy. You get a generous serving for just over ten bucks and usually order a couple to go every time. As for the food, solid as well. Chicken is decent quality and has a good amount of char on it. The eggrolls are the usual basic and consistent brand along with the salad dressing too. The beverage cooler is a NO GO! All of the soda is expired and the can of soda I got was close to date but still good. The place itself could use some work. It appears that they clean but a deep clean has been ignored for a while. The tables have a look and feel to it that leaves us going ugh. The chairs got a sway and seem it's one ass away from buckling. Overall, you're not gonna stop me from the egg drop soup. I am doing an update! I still give Mama's Teriyaki five stars! We still feel like it's the best teriyaki restaurant that is in fairly close proximity to where we live. We go nearby to do our annual tax returns (yay.) and then kind of make a tradition to come here and get a meal. My favorite combo here is the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu. Portions are generous and sometimes there is enough where it lasts for two meals! With this combination you get salad also. I also ordered hot and sour soup on our last visit. On the hunt for great teriyaki in Tacoma, Gig Harbor options are very disappointing. This place delivered. I ordered the chicken breast teriyaki and gyoza. Chicken was great, texture was spot on, some places just have a weird chicken taste and are rubbery. Salad dressing was classic, lettuce was fresh and crisp. Rice was great. My only criticism is I did not get a gyoza sauce, not sure if it was missed or maybe they don't offer. This was a pick up order and the gentleman that took and gave me my order was very pleasant. So my quest has begun to find the best Japanese and Chinese food in the area. Today we decided to try takeout from Mama's Teriyaki. Based on previous reviews we were really looking forward to trying it. We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken Yakisoba. As you can see by the pictures the food looks great. Unfortunately, the flavor was not as good as it looks. The Kung Pao Chicken was chewy and there was no flavor to it. The Yakisoba had a bit more flavor but still rather bland for what you would expect for a good Yakisoba. The ambiance is clean and unassuming. The service was very good. We only wish that the food was as good as the service. Perhaps this was just an off day and maybe our quest will take us back to Mama's again in the future. read more
