I've had my stuff here for two years, twice I've moved my stuff to smaller units to save money and Every time I did that, they just increased the rent on my new unit. I strongly advise anyone looking for storage to avoid this facility. My experience has been a nightmare due to their poor management, inadequate equipment, and dishonest billing practices. 1. Facility Negligence and Flood Damage: After only a week of renting, a pipe burst, causing a massive flood in my unit. Nearly all my belongings--including my television, mattress, magazines, notes, and a wooden-framed wedding photo--were soaked and had to be discarded. Instead of taking accountability, management tried to hide evidence by avoiding email communication and only using phone calls. They acted as if allowing me to transfer to another unit was a favor, while offering zero compensation for my destroyed property. 2. Additional Financial Burden: Due to this flood, my movers had to spend an extra 1.5 hours re-packing and moving my items. This cost me an additional $180 ($120/hour) out of pocket, not to mention the income I lost from missing work due to the delay. They also claimed they "offered" free boxes to help, which is a lie--no one mentioned this, and I had to pay the moving company for supplies myself. 3. Insurance Evasion: I paid for their insurance for May. When the flood occurred on May 28th, they refused to process my claim, forcing me to use my own policy despite the fact that I had already paid for theirs. They essentially took my money for coverage they refused to honor when I actually needed it. 4. Deceptive Billing and Predatory Price Hikes: Their pricing is a trap. I was promised a two-month 50% promotional discount, but they charged me the full amount for June anyway. Most outrageously, by the fifth month, they suddenly increased my rent from $152 to $220/month. I later spoke to an elderly tenant who also complained about being blindsided by these sudden, aggressive price hikes. Do not be fooled by their website prices. This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and predatory. Save yourself the stress and financial loss--look elsewhere for storage. read more

Before I explain why I do NOT recommend this storage facility, let me unequivocally state that the employees are super nice and helpful. When you read the reviews, this becomes a self evident truth. Sadly, this is not enough when safety and security of your valuables is paramount. This facility has water intrusion issues caused by off-site water drainage problems. On or about the May 2025 Memorial Day weekend, SecureSpace Self Storage experienced a massive water intrusion incident. Literally dozens of units on the first and second floors were partially or completely flooded. Boxes, furniture and anything stored in the units was variously soaked and damaged. I personally lost a very old and sentimental CD collection of stored in multiple cardboard boxes on laid on the concrete floor. It appears that drainage from up grade (I.e., off-site) entered the storage facility somewhere on the second floor via outside wall. From various accounts it seems that periodic flooding is an issue for the County of San Diego in this area. This storage facility is located towards the bottom of a fairly steep Storm water runoff and drainage system. It is unclear whether the intrusion was a poor a design issue or a maintenance problem. SecureSpace emphatically claims it is not their fault. This is probably true but they still own and profit from renting hundreds of high end, air conditioned units. Drainage mitigation is part of a good site civil design plan and typically required by San Diego County authorities (i.e., permitting process.) Clearly, SOMETHING failed and many of us SecureSpace tenants were told to file insurance claims. If you don't already know, insurance adjusters rarely make you whole even with receipts, appraisals, etc. Bottom line, AVOID the first floor of this facility at a minimum. Be aware that poor design and/or maintenance may jeopardize your valuables. It's really unfortunate because this place is NOT cheap nor is it in a bad neighborhood. However, there appears to be site civil design and/or storm water mitigation issues that weren't properly planned or later resolved. Do your own due diligence and ask yourself if the risk is worth the price. I was planning on storing a lifetime of valuables for long-term safekeeping while on a foreign deployment. I will take my business elsewhere because I don't need this kind of headache or perpetual worry. read more

I am so happy and grateful to Nicholas and Anthony of SecureSpace Self Storage Rancho Penasquitos. I have been renting here since it opened. Recently they had a pipe break / flood. Rent on my 10 x 20 went from $365 to $465 over 25% increase in a matter of 6 months. Found another storage unit in 4s ranch that charges $250. Happy with Nicholas and Anthony but totally disgusted with greedy corporate who seems to be only interested in the bottom line. My other unit went from $138 to $213, a whopping 50%. Wonderful to rent from. Nice climate controlled storage units are awesome, I feel safe leaving my belongings there especially for an extended period of time. The payment process leaves no room for delinquency if you set it up with an auto payment method, everything will run smoothly. BEWARE! BEWARE! Price increases are enormous - 50% increase after 4 months on my unit. When I requested a decrease to a reasonable amount, I was told one could be requested. Requested, yes; granted, NO! And this was after two months of waiting for a response. Supposedly, this "no" came from "corporate." Then I was told the local manager may grant a reduction. Again, waited two months and was denied. Finally, I was given the customer service email address (you will see that in the company's response to other negative comments) and told to make a direct request with any details I wanted to include. I did that. It has been over a month and a half with nothing more than an auto reply that the request was received. When I sent a follow-up, same thing. Do yourself a favor and find a place where increases are spelled out in the original contract. I wish I would have. read more

I rented a storage in March 2024 at a great rate as a new customer. 5 months later my storage space increased by $28.88. Customer service advised that it should not increase again for at least 8 months to a year. They were "guessing" based on previous customer inquiries. That's a big increase with only one month billing notice. Per other reviews it looks like I'm not the only one taken by surprise. I will be tracking the next increase which I am hoping will not be a large rental increase and or too soon. I originally liked this place until I found out they were increasing rent by 30% on one unit and 19% on another Such a huge jump without ever mentioning any increases when we originally signed our lease. I highly recommend this storage unit facility. I am not sure about the old reviews but the current management team (Anthony and Nicholas) that runs the units are 2 of the nicest people ever. At the same time they run a tight ship in keeping the units immaculate in your best interest. Even the hired movers appreciated all their help in moving in and also the move out phase. Same level of service coming and going and that is rare. The pricing is pretty competitive yet you get Royal level service and they make things as convenient as possible for you with all the extra tools and resources. Do not rent here! If you do do not far for the scam of paying extra for the insurance! If something happens to your belongings while stored here, they will not pay you for damage, even though you pay for the insurance for this purpose! They scammed me had me pay the insurance fee. My stuff got ruined in there and then, conveniently in the middle of my claim they switched companies. The insurance company does not have a working phone number! the staff at the facility gave me phone numbers to call that do not work and are out of service. I've left several messages and no response. My stuff got moldy and ruined from their negligence and water leaking into the storage units so beware when renting here and do not fall for the scam of getting their renters insurance on the unit storage! read more

DO NOT GET FOOLED BY WEBSITE PRICING. We truly loved this place at first. It was new and nice. They have raised our rate THREE times in a year and a half. The last increase was $80/month more. I woke up this morning to seeing the THIRD increase so I called. I asked why they didn't notify us and she said "we sent an email, the only thing I can do for you is start a move out." WOW. I really thought I would've gotten some appreciation for being a loyal customer who recommended their friends and family to this place. No one will appreciate your loyalty, or the money that you work hard for. Literally never got that email. Oh and there are lots of spiders in the hallways. There is also LOTS of turn over with the staff and they've had at least 3-4 managers in two years so that should've told me something right there. A lot to say about this place but ill try and make it short, The location is rather annoying to get to having to go through a apartment complex parking lot with multiple speed bumps and cars parked rather un uniform as usual at an apartment complex "Not great for trailers coming and going to storage" The facility has major issues with setting proper lighting time for the lockers resulting in issues like falling, tripping and having to worry about seeing in the dark depending on if the lockers lights were updated since opening however I have still seen a few people complaining after I myself had a issue where I fell carrying large things in the dark. They use this company called Open Tech Alliance for there access control and the main door at the top has been down multiple times making you go to another door on another floor, not to mention whoever installed it clearly didn't know what they were doing since any time the system reboots or has a glitch the doors open immediately "Not fail secure setup" Its also incredibly easy to get in with no code and that's kinda frightening if you store things there like I do. The car wash always has issues it seems, they claim it's working now but the last time I went the water worked and no soap or pressure in the options menus. The GM is kinda short about literally anything as well as impatient and snippy not just to us anytime we have been in there and there is another customer as well, we personally prefer dealing with Mike he has always resolved any issues respectfully and timely and is always a very easy person to work with. "Honestly should give him the GM position". I don't really know how much longer we will use this place, they really need to fix up some of the issues. read more

I'm in absolute shock at all of this negativity! I'm sorry ya'll we're talking storage facilities, have you tried any other place? Because I have. I've been in some rough spots in life & I have never found a facility as convenient, understanding & CLEAN as SecureSpace in Rancho Penasquitos. The quality of customer service I've received has been unsurpassable. Anthony & Nicolas have to be 2 of the hardest working, kindest, all around lovely gentlemen that I've been blessed to meet. One of them is ALWAYS running around there, heck if not both, working so hard when i pull in. & not once, not a single time hasn't stopped to greet me with a smile on their face. Although dogs aren't allowed in the building, if I were to say to my dog who is passed out cold, if she wanted to go see Anthony & Nicolas well that would have to be one of the first things we did this morning because she would sit by the door until I did. Just to get some pets from the car window. & you know what, I've seen how some people have treated them, & prior employees because yes I've been using this facility for awhile now & to those people all i can say is shame on you.I have not a single complaint about the value for money. $12 for tenant protection? That's NOTHING. I'd paid double if i had to, & in past situations I've actually had to pay triple at other companies. Get with the program guys, it's 2024 everything has gone up & that's not the companies faults & certainly not the employees faults. This new place is state of the art for storage. I like the security it has. The layouts are great and easily accessible from the door bringing of taking things to your unit. Staff was great and very helpful. The layouts are different for the different sizes. We liked the wider door for our unit. Staff person made it happen. They do run specials which was awesome. It was reasonably priced compared to others. Downside is you have to drive through the side of an apartment complex. Upside is a great lot for rv's and boats. There is a wash station being completed for autos, rv and boats. Great addition. read more

This one-star review is based on the cost of renting an RV space. We have rented an RV space for 1 year. In those 12 months, the rent has increased twice for a total of 20%. The facility is new so there have not been any repairs or updates needed that could warrant such large increase in a short time. Corporate SecureSpace did not seem to care when we called them. This storage facility is really good at nickel and diming people. They tack on a $12 Tenant Protection Plan at the start of the lease, until you provide them with a copy of your property insurance. After you provide them with a copy of your property insurance, they tell you that they cannot credit or refund the $12. Terrible customer service. Rather than rectify situation with a $12 refund/credit, they would rather create unhappy customer experience. read more

Still nothing. Yesterday came and went after Christy promised me last Friday(5days prior) that she would call me with an update on my stolen trailer and security footage or an update. This was the second time they've assured me they'd call if they had information or not. At this point all I'm asking for is the communication and customer service that they offer on their website. It's been 6 weeks since we found out that my trailer was stolen from their lot. I've received 1 phone call from them with no information. They have not called me back twice now after being assured they would get back to me with an update. (One discussion was just luck since they answered the phone when I called) I am only asking for what they've offered and it definitely seems like they're MIs representing themselves. Not a secure facility. No customer service. No follow through. No management skills. No footage from their camera system. (I've been told they "may not have any") At this point, I'll just keep posting here, Google Reviews, and the BBB. I have nothing to lose, and maybe they'll get the hint that customers do not appreciate being treated horribly and we have a recourse. read more
