So first thing first I decide to try this place out. My kids were craving meat so I figure why not. They didn't have beef ribs strike 1. I order half. Chicken that took 15 min to get STRIKE TWO. Wow does it take 15 min to get half a chicken that was already premaid already. When I got the chicken it was dry as heck STRIKE 3!!! Last thing if your gonna make people wait at least have the Decency to let people know it a going to take awhile exp. when I the first and only customer waiting for there food. Ok, let's start with the bad...It's Non Smoked BBQ. For some of you that will end this review. No point to read any further, and I get that. I'm usually that guy...if it's not smoked, it's not BBQ. Now the good..., John Travolta once said "bacon tastes good, pork chops taste good." Same can be said for pork ribs. Baby back ribs taste good. So what does Big B do to them? First they are rubbed up with some salt and pepper, then they are baked. Then they are put in the fridge waiting for you to order them. What? Sacrilege! Well next they put them on a grill and charbroil them. This gives them a nice crust to the outside of the rib, makes them pipping hot, but because they are baked ahead of time, they are still fall off the bone tender. Now this wouldn't be enough to really save these ribs, but Big B's has a good smokey flavored sauce. The sauce is basted on while they are being grilled, plus they always give you a side of it as well. The side of sauce is always served warm, which is a big plus. The chicken is also done the same way. As long as you go in thinking these are grilled seasoned meats with BBQ sauce, then you will be ok. For the sides, they have some of the best potato salad around. Very very chunky Idaho potatoes with skins left on, mayo, salt, pepper, small pieces of celery, and the magic ingredient.....diced pickles. What? Yep it works well. I've also wondered if they put the celery in the pickle juice as well because it too has a pickled flavor. Although this seems a little strange, it isn't. So often you will find relish added to potato salad, so this is just one step further and it's a great step. I come in here quite a bit just to get some potato salad to go. They are very proud of their Beckett's Beans. And I'll give them props that it's a very original recipe. It's 3 different kinds of beans with bacon and jalapenos. It's got some nice spice to it for sure. They are ok, I just don't understand why you can't get your normal Southern Style Baked Beans out here. It's like once you get to Texas, all of a sudden everyone is messing with them with different kinds of beans and they take on elements of Mexican food or something. I don't think I've ever had good baked beans in California. It's not hard, navy beans, in a good homemade BBQ sauce, with some brown sugar added, maybe some vinegar, and some shredded pork and or bacon. Anyway enough of my BBQ Bean rant. Big B's has only a few tables, so it's mostly a to go place, although you can order it next door in their sports bar (where they have my wife's favorite Wyder's Pear Cider on tap). Compared to Lucile's, Big B's is a lot cheaper, so it makes for a pretty good to go option. A full rack of ribs with sides and fries will run about $18. So while, I wouldn't drive across town for this BBQ, if you are in the neighborhood, it's worth a stop in for sure. read more

Killer Ribs! How did I not know about Big B's and their adjoining sports bar, Brians? Been here almost 25 years serving some mighty worthy ribs. Guess that's what I get for seldom venturing away from the beach cities area. LF lives nearby and mentioned it a few months ago when i was craving ribs. Glad we finally made it here. The ribs aren't smoked but are "charbroiled" and are still very flavorful. We got a full rack (called "slab" here) to go as there is minimal seating in their tiny storefront. These are some of the meatiest baby backs I have ever had, and prit-near "falling off the bone" tender. Yumm f'n Yumm! Don't know if the LF requested that the sauce be on the side, (she's known for that) but I am glad it was as it gave me the opportunity to dip my finger in to test. Loved it. Not sweet, but vinegary and spicy, excellent for my taste. See, living near the beach aint always the coolest deal, not when you have an awesome rib shack like Big B's. read more

I had heard a lot of buzz surrounding Big B's as it was deemed best BBQ in Orange County. After eating here I have come to one of 2 conclusions - Big B's has terrible BBQ or no one in OC has any clue as to what good BBQ is. I ordered the pork ribs and it was not tender. Although they put it on the grill, it came out cold in the center. Which means one thing. They pre-cook the stuff and it is not cooking all day. The sauce wasn't anything special. The meat was so tough, I coulda used it as dental floss. But I still can't seem to figure out how so many other reviewers had such a different experience than mine. I'll probably have to make a return trip to see if my first time was a fluke. After all, if my wife judged me by the first time, she probably wouldn't have married me. read more

Man I wanted to like, no love this place. It's close to my house and I love good BBQ but after trying this place twice in the past couple of months I won't be going back. Visit #1 I had the Ribs and thought they were over-cooked. Visit #2 I tried a burger and was disappointed at the size (tiny) and the amount of gristle on it (lots!) Fries are nothing special either. To top it off the decor is dingy and dirty-looking, the manager who took my order has an attitude like he'd rather be doing anything else and the 1980's TV mounted on the wall is constantly blurry, last visit it even had a line through the screen! This BBQ place shares a common wall with a Bar named Brian's. There is a 18 inch whole cut out to order and pass food through. With that said, this is bar food. As for me, I have seen my fair share of the inside of bars and i have had the choke and puke that they try to pass off for food. If you go there and want to sit in the "restaurant" which consists of about 3.5 chairs then you will be able to say "I have eaten better BBQ than this before" . However, if you are relaxing after work or on a Sunday afternoon and want a cold beer and you order from here, the food somehow tastes better when you are in Brian's. Again, this isn't going to change your life but where else can you go and say " hey send my rack of ribs and fries through the wall, I'm having a pint of Guinness next door" If you want to act like a BBQ snob and blather on about how you know a better place well then go there cause your dumb ass will probably end up sitting next to me and quite honestly, I'm there to have some good eats and enjoy a few beers with some cool people. For those of you who think Lucille's is real BBQ please go to the emergency room immediately. You have your head stuck in your ass and you might suffocate. Let me let you in on a little secret. I've been tasting all the BBQ joints in Orange County for a few years now, and the other day I came across Big B's BBQ... and I paid for it, as well as my boss. Called in the order for pick up for our business, and first off I was not satisfied the least bit with the communication. Three BBQ pork sandwiches, one without pickles/onions (I've never had a BBQ pork sandwich with pickles/onions in my life and I've eaten all different regions BBQ, wasn't a good combo in my opinion) BUT add coleslaw. The guy said that would be fine. Order was picked up and brought back to where the sandwich was ridiculously small for portion/price. The BBQ pork was placed on a hot dog bun. Pork was flavorless, chewy, and not enough on to justify $7.25/sandwich. Wasn't butt pork (shoulder) that's for sure, which is the best tasting/BBQ 101 for pork sandwich. The pork's taste and texture let me know it had been frozen and for some time. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I personally won't ever discourage people from this place... make your own choice, but myself and my boss both got food poisoning from here the next day and ended up missing work because of it. read more

Me and the other half started eating here this year. I have never in my life had such a great pulled pork sandwich. The first bite, filled with pork and bbq sauce and soft bread, made my whole body tingle a little, then I hit a hidden pickle inside...you could say after that I was one happy girl. Even as I sit here thinking about it, I'm starting to tingle. A visit to Big B's could be comparible to a steamy night you had with someone. The next day you start to think about it and you get all warm and fuzzy inside and blush a little. Well, thats also how I feel about this pork. I want it over and over and over again....with pickles! I hear their ribs are great too, but I'm sticking with the sandwich for now. I also like to call ahead and order it for take-out. Takes about 5 min and the staff is friendly. If the french fries are the best part of your BBQ establishment something is wrong. I went based on the yelp reviews and I have to say this is one of the few times that my fellow yelpers have let me down. I did not try the ribs but seeing them cooked I did not regret that choice. They have a bbq beef sandwich which is not brisket, not tri tip, but roast beef with bbq sauce which pretty much sums up this place. Bland flavorless meat with lots of crappy bbq sauce. The pork sandwich is not pulled pork, but sliced pork tenderloin, this should have been enough of a warning sign but we were short on time and committed to this place. As for service they were undermanned to begin with for a friday night, and then the firl working the counter took a phone order while we stood in front of her and 3/4 of they way through our order took another. This is also a place where you pay and then sit down and they call you up. They had a tip spot on their receipt which is silly. McDonalds does not have a tip line and they do more there than these folks did. Price was way higher than what the quality dictated. Overall if you think this is good bbq, you may not actually like bbq but rather lots of bbq sauce on your meat. read more

3 3/4 Stars. Since the bar scene is not my scene and BBQ is, I came in here to try their BBQ Beef sandwich. The sandwich was a little on the small side, but very delicious. The beef wasn't stringy, tough or over cooked. I like thick BBQ sauce and the sauce they use on the sandwich isn't thick, but flavorful. You get a choice of sides and I got french fries with it. They were good, too. Not oily or over fried. Service was decent and nice. The ambiance was deli style with a few tables and a flat screen TV. I really want to love this place because of the environment and community involvement but... 2 - Meh. Didn't hate it but mostly bored. The Food: The pork sandwich was decent but a bit salty and the proportion of meat to pickle to bread was not quite right, favoring the pickles a bit. The sauce sucks. Vinegar and salt and tasted like the low brand mass production store bought. My companion got the bratwurst. "Worth a stop if it's on the way but not a special trip." After a nibble, I concur. It's okay but nothing special Coleslaw - No. This is not good. Potato salad - standard picnic potato salad fare, more mayo than mustard, could be a bit spicier but overall I'm pleased with it. Pasta salad - exactly average, no more but no less. The People: Staff was nice but not super friendly but they all seem to be multitasking as cooks and cashiers so it's to be expected. The Environment: Very hole in the wall small business feel. Cute interior setup but pretty small, looks like borrowed space from their bar next door. Unless we missed the mark and the chicken and ribs are majorly redeeming I would not recommend a visit here and we likely won't come back. System: 1 - Hate it. 2 - meh. So I've had my fair share of delicious BBQ & it's not here. Wait...maybe I should've started this off a little differently?!! Ok take 2: It's not better than the commercialized Lucille's BBQ down the street in Brea but it does deserve honorable mention. The BBQ sauce they use is pretty interesting in a good/bad way. Does that make sense or am I confusing you now?!! I usually order a 1/2 rack of ribs so I really can't tell you much about the rest of the menu. I'd suggest checking out the review before mine to get an idea of what the other menu items are like. The place is pretty tiny compared to Big B's bar next door so make sure you order this to-go because there isn't really a lot of room to sit down & enjoy your meal. It may be pretty tough to hold out though because it smells really good so if you live a few miles away...just eat the damn food there. It's a little difficult to find because it's located at the far end of the strip mall (north of Albertson's) next to the unknown street north of Yorba Linda Blvd. Happy hunting! read more

This bbq is just OK. I would have given it three stars. But they really messed my to go order up. When I returned home, I discovered that they left out the ribs on two of our plates. I called them up, and they said you must have not ordered them. It is really bad when a restaurant puts something like this back in the customer. They also forgot to prepare one of our plates which we caught before we left. So we had to wait for them to prepare that while we waited and the rest of our food became cold. And they left out our side order of fries that came with the chicken breast plate. It just was a poor experience. read more

If you're from California and never had real bbq from the Midwest then I suppose this place would suffice. Like most bbq joints out here they equate a lot of bbq sauce with being good. The thing is, is the sauce they use is sour tasting and not very good. It overpowers the flavor of the meat. I ordered a tri tip sandwich and my son got pulled pork, we both shared some ribs. None of it was great, none of it was horrible either. I suppose if you are really hungry you could do worse, and it's always better to give your money to small places like this rather than some fast food chain, but I would recommend trying someplace else. read more

I lived about 2 mi from this place and only tried it once for lunch. The BBQ chicken was very good; tender, moist, & flavorful. The ribs...not so much. They cooked or reheated them on the grilll - chewy & bland. No smoky flavor, just lots of sauce. The beans were damn good though. I lived in Texas for a while and this just doesn't compare (then again, most places in CA don't). Lucille's sucks (overpriced, mediocre food with insane wait times and overblown decor). I'd say Big B's is about on par with them for food quality, but a heck of a lot cheaper. If you're looking for a quick, cheap fix of BBQ, you could do worse. This place is TINY though (3 tables inside, a bar and a few tables outside), so get takeout and eat it at home. read more

Was in the area and searched for BBQ. Found Big B's BBQ. Brian's Bar is next door and the they take orders for Big B's. Inside is small. Can seat maybe 10 but they have a picnic table out front. I ordered the Chicken Breast sandwich. Went next door to Brian's. Told Laura (the bartender, who was pleasant by the way) I was expecting a sandwich. Sat at the bar and ordered a schooner of Newcastle. Waited about 10 mins for my sandwich arrived. The Coleslaw side was just shy of creamy. It was fresh and tasted just right. The chicken breast sandwich was very good. Grilled, with just a touch of BBQ sauce and mayonnaise. Served on a hogie roll with a thick slice of tomato and a couple leaves of crunchy lettuce. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. read more

I'm going to reiterate what a few others have said ... Because I fully agree with them. Get the ribs. Don't waste your time with anything else. The ribs are their best item and they are delicious. They don't need any sauce and they fall off the bone. I'd recommend getting your meal to go because the dining room is small and grubby. It's more like a take out waiting area For a dollar more you can upgrade your sides to fried zucchini or onion rings. I recommend both of those items. The beans are good. I wouldn't consider them barbecue beans by any stretch. However they are very tasty and flavorful The sides are meant to complement the ribs and they do just that. Coleslaw decent. The fries actually pretty good. But get the zucchini. It's really fresh, lightly fried and comes with ranch If the dining room was updated and cleaned... I would give this four stars. read more

I am a sucker for good barbeque. The sweet, tangy, spicy taste of ribs alongside fries and some coleslaw is great on a summer day. So in order for me to relive those summer days, I eat at bbq places for lunch. So when I found out of this place I was somewhat hesitant to eat here because it looked like it was a giant hole in the wall. I didn't even know it existed until i shopped around the area. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious, the pork was juicy and the sauce was tangy, just how I like my pulled bbq sandwiches. The restaurant decor isn't really much, it has that order and eat feeling to it. Plenty of parking as it is located on a lot, so there isn't any need to worry about walking long distances. So if you are just looking for a simple lunch, then Big Bs is the place for you to go. read more

I'm a little surprised this place got such good reviews. The baby back ribs were really tender and had a good texture and char on them. However, the flavor was not to my liking. Slightly vinegary, smoky but not sweet, the ribs had a charred flavor that kind of tasted like they were burnt. As much as I like darkly charred ribs, it was a bit too much. The fries and coleslaw sides were mediocre. With the very limited seating, I would much rather prefer several other BBQ places such as Phil's (though it's super far), Newport Rib Company, and even Lucille's, though there you have to get the St. Louis ribs -- their babybacks aren't very good. However, if you enjoy tender, fall-off-the-bone, non-sweet, smoky, burnt tasting ribs for take-out, try Big B's. read more

My husband and I recently got married at the Fullerton Arboretum. On their list of caterers was Big Bs. We encoded to go and taste the food. We set up an appointment with the owners wife (Lisa), who was super nice, and asked if asked if we could bring our family. She said of course. We all went to taste the food and not only was it amazing but she was so wonderful and accommodating! My mom asked if the pulled pork could be made a little less spicy and she said not a problem. When the big day came I was a little nervous because here we are serving BBQ at a wedding and on paper plates! ( we were to cheap to rent plates!) when we got to the reception, everything was perfect! They had everything set up right where I wanted it. My guests all enjoyed the cheese and fruit. They even made a special plate for my husband and I! When it came time for the dinner, Lisa, brought over both the ribs and pulled pork. Omg they were amazing! Just like I remembered! She even filled up our beer mugs for us! Over all they truly made the night special. Our guests loved the food and so did we! Please go and support this wonderful place! read more

Yummmm... We watched some football and had some excellent BBQ with what im pretty sure were either Raiders fans or gang members. Either way, this place is tasty. The ribs were super tender and did not need any additional sauce. They have sort of a lemon flavor, which sounds strange but tastes great. We ordered a rack thinking some of them would come home as leftovers, but as usual they were gone in no time. I had the chicken breast which was well cooked and had good flavor. Their fries are nothing special but you will fill up on the meat and not need them anyway. Their beans are tasty, cooked with brown sugar and bacon. B's is a casual environment, good for having a couple schooners of beer, eating some good ribbies, and watching football. read more

The ribs are awesome. I love that they charbroil them!! I never put sauce on mine. They are super tasty without it. I always get the onion rings instead of fries. The sides are OK, the roll is ordinary, but the ribs are great. I make ribs a lot at home, so for me to drive to Fullerton from Huntington Beach says a lot cuz I hate driving!! My school had an event and Big B's catered our dinner. So I can't speak of the ambiance, price, or service (all of which are very important, but what can I do). The buffet line consisted of salad, beans, potato salad, rolls, ribs, chicken, BBQ sauce.... and cookies (?) I may be mistaken because the cookies may have been from somewhere else. They were gross, by the way, but we'll focus on the main stuff from here on. The sides were yummy and balanced out the meat. The potato salad was decent, but nothing praiseworthy. The beans were the kind with molasses - on the sweet side, but it went well with the rest of the saltiness on my plate. the rolls were actually quite good. They were soft and moist. The meat itself was good. The chicken came in large portions and was tasty and the ribs (ooh, i love them ribs) were fall off the bone, BBQ-y goodness. I had no idea there was a BBQ spot connected to Brian's, the bar. I think I'll have to come back and try their food on their home turf sometime. Now that I know this exists, I can save my wallet from the damage that Lucille's does. For now, a solid 3 stars it is for Big B's it is. read more

3.5 stars. No frills. Really. Not a frill in sight. This place is definitely a hole in the wall. It's just straight up tasty BBQ, not that there is anything wrong with that. Ambiance? Not important, which is good because there really isn't any. There are a few small tables in the place just before you reach the counter where you order, pay, and pick up your grub. Come here for the babyback ribs. They are messy and oh so tasty like ribs should be. The sliders are pretty good, too. The side items are typical of a BBQ joint and are fine. Nothing spectacular, but they work with the ribs. Take-out works, too. Just call in and pick up a feast. While I have eaten in the restaurant, this is one of my favorite places when I crave something rib-stickin' good but want to nosh at home on the couch. When you simply want simply tasty BBQ, this may be the place for you. read more

The ribs are good. My only complaint is that they messed up my order. I ordered a pint size pasta salad to go so that I could share with my family, but instead got a small. A pint size wouldn't have been enough, but now some sacrifice will be needed! I suspect the guy who got a combo and was supposed to have a small ended up getting my pint. *cry* Update: Owner offered on yelp immediately to fix the error plus more.
