Very disappointing experience at GEN Korean BBQ. We had won a $50 gift card that was purchased at Costco and went in for lunch, ordering from the lunch menu. Our waiter recommended the galbi and said it was good, so we agreed to get it. We were not told that the galbi was actually on the dinner menu or that we would be charged the dinner price. We only found out when we received the bill. Then, to make matters worse, we were told that our $50 gift card had a $0 balance. This gift card had been purchased at Costco and had never been used, so that was extremely frustrating. Because of the dinner-priced item and the inability to use our gift card, what we expected to be a reasonably priced lunch ended up costing us $80+ out of pocket. The biggest issue was the lack of transparency. If you're recommending an item during lunch that is only available at dinner pricing, the customer should be clearly informed before ordering. And if there is an issue with a gift card balance, it should be properly verified rather than simply telling the customer it is empty. We left feeling misled and frustrated. I've been to a few other Gen locations, and this one was fine (or mid, as folks younger than me would say!). Our waiter told us when we started ordering, that for a party of six, we could not order two plates of the same thing without manager approval, but then somehow he was able to do this without it being an issue. This restaurant is kind of dark inside, and when our friend who hadn't been to the table yet was trying to find us from the bathroom location, it was hard for her to find us. I don't know if they need more lighting or what. They really do need more ventilation over the burners. That's probably my major complaint on this location, since the smoke seemed to just blow right into our faces throughout the meal. Also the table was cluttered with a bunch of display bottles of products they sell. We moved them but it was a bit of an effort. The food was really good, though not always consistent. Some of the cuts like the short ribs were a bit fatty. Also we ordered carne asada twice, and the first batch was well-marinated and tasty, and the second batch was not. read more

I came here for dinner today, and it was a very disappointing experience. There was no sign posted, and none of the staff informed us that the air conditioning wasn't working before we were seated. The restaurant felt like it was around 90°F inside. It was extremely hot, smoky, and the air felt greasy from the kitchen, making it very uncomfortable to eat. Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy our dinner because of the conditions. I understand that equipment can fail, but customers should be informed before being seated so they can decide whether they want to stay. read more

We had not been here in many years, but decided to come here before going to the movies at the AMC. The prices have gone up from last time in the menu has significantly changed. We came here during a time that was too late for being lunch and too early for being dinner so we had no issues being seated on a weekend. The ambience remains the same with very modern dark and neon colors inside. Our server was super friendly and helpful, guiding us through the new menu items. They no longer place everything on the table as they used to you have to order what you actually want. They still don't have the fish cakes back, but they have other options. The portions are big, but you can ask for half portions. Our grill had an issue where it would heat up too much and it became a fire hazard. This also made it so that the grill had to be replaced more frequently which they did. Overall, we had a really good experience and my boyfriend really love the Al pastor tacos. They also have multiple rise options that they used to not have. Comparing A prices to other Korean barbecues. They are still on the lower part of the range and I think it's a good value for what you get. We will most likely be back when we go back to the movies. read more

From the beginning, she hyped up our party mood and even made ordering such a breeze. Her fun and easy-going personality really added to our experience with the Premium Menu, suggesting we try the skirt steak and long rib bone. We only got Shirley Temples but when she offered the different options for soju, I was sad that I had to resist. The quality has definitely fallen some at this location. I have never been a fan of the Gen chain, but have gotten some decent meals out of their locations none the less. Sadly, this location seems to be missing their hits lately. The AC issue is an easy problem to hate on, especially with how long it seems to have been this way. Looking deeper though, the quality in their service and meat has died some. The staff don't seem as attentive, at least not the main table hosts (sole food runners I cannot speak on). I certainly cant say its the worst/bad service, but the staff just don't seem as on point as members were a couple years back. Some of the meat cut choices come off "cheap" with how they cook and taste. This may be partially to blame on the grills not being at the right temperature. Prepare to increase the heat a little on your own. I can admit to being a big fan of their "KFC" back in the day, but this last visit had them dishing out plain chicken nuggets with a few drips of sauce. Depressing... Regardless of my feelings, this is still a favorite go-to for many. The restaurant is kept decently clean. Dinner wait times can get lengthy but are never unbearable. read more

I finally used a gift card I got for Christmas. This place usually has a huge line outside, which is why I avoid it. My husband and I stopped in at 3pm last Friday and there was no line. The service was quick. The prices are reasonable for all you can eat. I especially loved the fried fish appetizer, the bulgogi beef, and the brisket. I enjoyed the potato salad, but my husband was not a fan. The salad was good, but not necessary. Id rather enjoy everything else haha. What stole the show was the lychee soju cocktail! So good! 10/10 AYCE Dinner - It's been over two years since my last visit, but we finally stopped by after my boyfriend got a gift card. I was honestly impressed by the meat quality. I usually stick to the basics like steak and pork bulgogi, and both were delicious. The steak was my favorite because it's incredibly tender and easy to eat. The corn cheese was just okay since it needed more cheese in each cup. They also have some unique sides like bulgogi cheese fries and cilantro rice. The service was the worse experience I've had in a long time and I don't even write bad reviews really. We went to celebrate my brothers birthday and they couldn't sit us until 30 min later when they sat about 20 other walk ins right in front of us. Then our server was not friendly or helpful at all. The people bringing out the food helped us more than she did. We waited 10 min so we can pay our check and didn't get any help so we had to go to the front to pay it. I don't mind the cooking, but I highly suggest you ask your party how they like their meat cooked (crispy, medium etc) maybe not everyone has the same cook preferences. For drinks they have a lot of boba and the strawberry milk drink was super sweet but good. You definitely will smell like a beach bonfire after haha, the smoke exhausts pretty well but that's how KBBQ is. I recommend any of the belly meats and the bulgogi, and the bulgogi fries are kinda small but splittable for two. We typically don't order any chicken as that takes a lot of time to cook down, otherwise most pork and beef will cook within minutes. Depends on your night I guess. We went out with friends. Service was slow, felt intentional that they did super small portions for such a large group and then took roughly 30 minutes in between the portions so everybody was impatiently waiting to get any food in them. The waiter was changing the grill pan and literally dropped hot oil all over husbands arm burning him. He apologized gave him a napkin and then walked away. Did not check on him again. Husbands arm has 2nd degree burns on it. He had to go ask the front desk for burn cream and was not asked why they just handed it over. I'm assuming this is a common occurance. We came in and the ac wasn't working. No one from the staff informed us of this before getting seated. Within the first 10mins of our meal we began to feel and notice the heat. at first the heat wasn't as noticeable but over the course of dinner the experience because super uncomfortable and suffocating. While theres nothing the restaurant or mangement can do about the broken AC they should be doing a better job at being more transparent about the lack of air circulation. Going to a kbbq spot during 90 degree weather with NO AC NO air circulation and NO notice of THIS makes the experience horrible. Our poor waiter was noticeably sweating profusely. Until they fix their air problems go spend your hard earned money somewhere else. read more
