Shameful because it's only a straight shot down Overland for me but the traffic drives me nuts! It is on a busy section of Overland but it's easy to get in and out of. Big Bun has been around for a hot minute and I have yet to have a burger from this joint. Well, today's my lucky day! We stopped in for a quick lunch before we headed to Christmas activities. I love that they have huge photos of their food options at their drive thru and at the window. I'm a visual eater so food photos are the best! My husband got the Cafferty sandwich and I got a kids cheeseburger meal. It was nice to sit in the heated patio while our food was being prepared. As soon as it wa done they hollered our name over the intercom to let us know it was ready. My kid's burger was good! I asked for extra pickles and they gave me a good amount. The fries were fried golden. Crispy on the outside and nice and soft inside. The tater tots were nice and crunchy! I enjoyed them both with the fry sauce. I did unfortunately find hair in my food. As a hair stylist, finding hair can be gross but it doesn't gross me out as much compared to the next person. As my first outing there, this wasn't a good impression. Big Bun did buy the old Carl's Jr right down the road from me. It's been fun watching them make progress and change the old building. I am looking forward to having them in my area! Went to Big Ben today. And I must say, the experience today was much better than the last time I was there. It was like a flashback to when I was in high school. Hitting big bun, at least once a week. Got the lunch special or the daily special which was a bacon cheeseburger.Got the french fries and of course, scotch and soda.The french fries were better than mcdonald's.By far crunchier, better tasting fresher, tasting and hot.I'm glad big bun, at least in my opinion has come back to who they were.And have been for the last forty years. We were told we needed to try steak fingers before leaving Boise and so we ended up trying them here, out of convenience. I can honestly say, while they weren't anything I would crave on a daily basis, they were still pretty good. Although, I kept asking myself why people would fry perfectly good steak. Finally went after living here for 5 years and the burgers did not disappoint! We decided to sit in the outdoor tent, so ordered at the window and had food in hand within 5 minutes. I love the simplicity and focus in good ingredients at Big Bun, which is good meat and a great bun. This place reminds me of Whataburger which is a HUGE compliment in my eyes. Fries were ok, nothing to write home about but I'd argue this place has the best burger in town. Gotta love a local place that people have been going to for 50ish years (I think?). Give it a try if you're in the burger mood, have heard their finger steaks and shakes are to die for!! read more

I came here with my family. The wait wasn't too bad (about 5-10 minutes). I got the bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was so good! The cheese was perfectly melted and I like how they keep it simple on the toppings. The fry sauce and ketchup were great. I liked the bun for sure. It has sesame seeds but they weren't falling off like sand. The fries were great and you get a lot for a good size! (Medium) I tried the mozzarella sticks and they were good. A little bit too seasoned but overall 8/10. I will be coming here again. A little bummed how no bathroom was available but its all good. read more

After a great day of checking out a museum I had to have a butterscotch shake. My stepdad took me to this really cool drive-in place. It was cool and they had an 899 special for Thursday. That was a chicken sandwich at the spicy version and I had to get a side of tater tots. I found the service to be exceptionally nice, the shake was delicious and we didn't even have to wait more than five minutes to get our order something you don't find often these days. I found the food super delicious and I definitely coming back. I recommend the fries sauce. It must be an Idaho thing because I've never seen it before I came here and it's delicious. Every restaurant that has it. I find that stuff super addicting but perhaps to the staff and Crew the place was clean the service was quick and the food was the best I've had in a while. read more

I purchased a couple of things this afternoon at the Boise Overland Rd location. I tried the Fish & Chip Basket with some Sweet Potato Fries on the side. I believe the cook wasn't paying attention & the drive thru food server wasn't paying attention to what they were doing, as they served up OVER COOKED fish and Sweet Potato Fries. This is a QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE folks. Take a look at the food you are assembling for your customers who drive out of their way to come to YOUR location for edible and correctly cooked food. Your peeps need to honestly ask themselves "Would I eat this or serve this to my mom?" If the answer is NO, then don't serve it to us or take our money for sub-par food!! Make us wait for new batch of fresh food being cooked, but please don't insult us by taking our money for what is described below. The 3 pieces of fish were overcooked and the coating was dark brown in places and hard to bite into. The Sweet Potato Fries were also overcooked. Don't you have timers on your fry vats so that you don't EVER overcook your food? If you don't, then you should!! I took a picture of the fish in the event management or the owner would like to reach out & see for themselves what I am talking about. I am rethinking my next visit to this business. Looking for a quick and good meal Big Bun didn't come up short. The burgers and fries were great, and the service was awesome. There is actually a seating area that is covered and heated. With the name 'Drive In" I suspected it would be the classic drive in where you sat in your car. This was not the case, to my satisfaction. Overall, great experience. This place has off the charts shakes, burgers and fries that transport you back to that old school roller skate drive in! No joke!! I just visited the second Big Bun location, the one on Glenwood, for the first time. I ordered only the Guac Burger...my fave. It was hot, tasty, fresh, and huge! Even though 3 cars were ahead of me, my wait time was short. The young man at the window was pleasant, polite, clean cut, and efficient. I do not eat fast food...except Big Bun! Like many people that live in Boise I really have to watch my spending. On the sat. before mothers day I decided to deliver flowers to my moms grave and had to drive by Big Bun. I then decided that a scotch and soda would make this a little easier, getting in line I remembered I hadn't eaten yet so....When ordering I ordered 1 cherry scotch and soda and a fish meal. Way to expensive for me right now but it was too late to change things. Its finally my turn so I give the girl my card - it is almost $17.00 (I had also ordered a extra tarter sauce). She then hands me back a clipboard that is asking me for a tip! I put $0. I waited 20 - 25 minutes in the drive thru, 17.00 for 1 meal. What EXACTLY am I tipping for? So I got home and split the meal with my sister (whom I rent a room from) - 3 sm-med size fish and fries, I even split my soda with her, its her favorite too. The drink was terrible, no vanilla in it, the fish was so DRY I fed most of it to the dogs. My sister didn't like any of that meal. I'll go back to Big Bun but not until I can really afford the prices and not be bummed when the FOOD SUCKS. read more

First time here visiting from Texas. I had the avacado burger, fries, and root beer. My fiance had the pastrami burger (#4) and fries with a sprite. We shared mozzarella sticks. The service was outstanding, environment was clean and welcoming, and food was ready quickly. Mozzarella sticks were delish, but left in the fryer too long and definitely somewhat burnt. I have driven by this place a million times but only before a doctors appointment or after I've eaten already. I found them on my Doordash app and pounced on them like a puma. 1st choice was their bacon cheeseburger with pickles, onions and extra cheese. The bacon is made fresh so its always good and their buns are soft and toasted as well. The meat if you're into beef is real beef and always seasoned perfectly. 2nd choice was their phenomenal fries in a medium size order. Fried crispy and soft on the inside which always makes me happy. I tend do use ranch with my fries as well which pairs with the saltiness of the fries just right. Lastly, medium strawberry lemonade. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it! Visited yesterday for dinner. I had the Cheeseburger but added pickles and onions. The standard comes with just lettuce and sauce. I ordered the small fries and small onion rings so I could try both. The small sizes are enough for one person, so don't over order unless you are sharing. Everything tasted good. What I think happens though is they are preparing the different parts of your meal at different times, like they drop the fries or onion rings, then they might sit there a while until they can catch up with burgers. Nothing I got was very hot, but still okay. Prices have gone up as it has everywhere, but still reasonable. The newly remodeled seating area is really nice and clean and could seat large families at most times. If in the area, definitely check it out. read more
