We really enjoyed coming here! Nice modern low key atmosphere with a cool electric fireplace. I loved loved loved the baked beans, a very unique flavor. The mac and cheese and pulled pork was also very good. They had three bbq sauce options (Catalina, sweet, spicy) and all 3 were great, the spicy wasn't super spicy tho if you're into the heat. The only thing that would've improved our meal would've been a heavier handful of fries, the portion was a little wimpy. We will be back! read more

My wife and I stopped by around 6PM on a Saturday and ordered two dinners to go. I got brisket, with sides of coleslaw and potato salad. Claire got a pork steak with coleslaw and potato salad. Window service was friendly and quick. Both orders were ready in the promised, five minutes. Because it was chilly, we decided to get them to go. They were well packaged and leak free during the 10 minute ride home. Cost for the two dinners was $19.00. My brisket was an adequate helping. I'd estimate around 8 ounces. Nicely smoked and extremely tender. Slightly overcooked, but still quite acceptable. Pink/smoke tinged edges and a light coating of a mildly spicy, slightly sweet sauce were a perfect accompaniment. Oddly, it was served between the sides of a generic, "bought it at Costco" hamburger bun. Not toasted, not in any way special, the bun was the low point of my order. Claire's pork steak was quite large. It was somewhat overcooked and seemed to have been held at heat for too long. You could tell the flavor was excellent, but it was on the dry side. Not bad, just not up to its potential. The sauce covering it was two layers. On the inside, it was black and baked on and on the outside, coated with fresh sauce. It was served on a large slice of white bread. The pork steak was a solid three stars, but could have been five, if it was a little fresher. The coleslaw tasted very good. Sweet/vinegar balance was perfect and the sauce was creamy and fresh tasting. The potato salad was among the best I've tasted anywhere. A mustard based yellow potato salad, it had a perfect blend of sweet and tart, along with a texture second to none. The potato salad is worth a trip on it's on. Overall, this is one of the best barbeque places I've visited in the area. With just a little more attention to freshness on the pork steak, they could easily be five stars. On my travels across the country this summer, this was an EXCELLENT stop for dinner. The Brisket & Fish were both extremely fulfilling. The brisket was in full slices, but was tender and melted in my mouth. The fish was perfectly cooked and tasted very clean. Portions were HUGE. The picnic patio was clean and shady and the blues made us dance in our seat. The ladies running this BBQ were friendly and funny. If this place were any more "old school", it would be in a red brick schoolhouse. The smell of heavenly smoke proved I was in the right place. Takeaway with patio seating, only. And according to their posted menu, catering. The menu is appropriately limited to the classics, but one item became my must try for the first visit. Their Slaw Dawg is a foot long split natural casing smoked kielbasa style sausage topped with a creamy slaw and sauce. And since the "slaw" was already there, I selected baked beans as the quintessential BBQ side. The sausage had a snap to the bite and a level of seasoning and smoke that let you enjoyed both without overtaking either. Their sauce, the creamy slaw dressing, and the juices combined perfectly as a condiment. The beans were just slightly sweet, without taking on a candied quality, and also were kissed with smoke. I also could not resist trying the caramel cake. As it sounds, it was a yellow double layer cake with caramel frosting. Certainly seemed like someone's grandma was involved. This place could motivate me to running marathons just to justify more frequent indulgences. read more

Stopped here on the way home from Denver. BBQ was good, but the portions were kind of small. We're from the East Coast, and BBQ places here tend to do the North Carolina style, where there is no sauce cooked with the meat. This was really good, and exactly what we were looking for. The sauce was sweet, but it also had a good spicy bite to it. The price was reasonable and it was fast. They have a nice seating area outside, under cover, so you're not baking in the sun. We would definitely come back, and I would recommend to anyone traveling through Central Missouri. read more

Several others who have tried this place and said it looked abandoned were probably attempted to visit his now defunct walk up stand since for some reason this is listed as the address on the website.. I was aware they moved because I travel by their new location on a daily basis.. First a bit of background.. My husband loves big daddy's food truck that still attends the fair every summer as well as the downtown food truck ralleys..the menu on the food truck is simple.. A straight pulled pork bbq sandwich and a handful of their potato chips.. But if you visit their new location at their newly opened restaurant you are treated to their full menu a rotating menu of four different smoked meats in their famous sauce and a stellar selection of homemade sides from collard greens black eyed peas,baked beans and my daughters favourite mac and cheese.. Nothing out of a box here that mac and cheese is made fresh every day.. My daughter could make just a bowl of it her dinner. The last time there I had fried fish and fries.. By the time I had selected my sides got a glass of homemade lemonade that fish was ready..flaky and delicious and perfect.. My husband went with the ribs and the smile on his face said it all..never tried their deserts but ill have to next time because ill definitely be back. read more

I'm a big fan of Memphis BBQ so that makes the grade pretty steep. I also do my own Q, rub and sauce but that is just my basis. My kid got the rib sandwich with was 4 ribs, and a side. The rubs were meaty and you get to know on them which shows they smoke them right. Hint: If your meat falls off the bone, that means they boiled them prior...who boils meat? Communists! Them and people who can't cook. I went with the pulled pork sandwich with a side of greens. The sauce was good, sweet and spicy but the pig was swimming in it and I couldn't taste the flavor of the meat. That is my only knock on the 'que though. Those greens I mentioned earlier? Divine! Like little angels of flavor doing a jig on my tongue. Sweet with a hint of pork, they were tender just the way they should be. My 10 year old tried them and loved them. There are 8 tables outside and on nice days I say eat there. They play blues music and that makes for a nice ambiance. If you live in CoMo, go! The BBQ is very good, just the right amount of sweetness and flavor. I also had baked beans, which is not bad, kinda smokey flavor. I think the beans would have been better with a little meat. I also hand potato salad, which was ok tasting too. They have kinda some what of a sweet taste to them. It's the kind made with mustard. The place is right off a main street in Columbia, Missouri. The corner of business loop and provides. There area is kinda getto, but I'm hoping they will develop the rest of the abandoned buildings in this area. I had very high hopes for this place. Many times I have wanted to stop. Now I wish i had not. My brisket sandwich was soggy bread with undercooked fatty meat inside. My first bite was a mouth full of fat. Made me gag! My Husbands Rib Tips were were flavorful but also full of fat and bone and gristle. What amazing BBQ!!!!! I got a half slab of ribs and some potato salad. The BBQ sauce was so delicious I was licking it off the foil. Very very impressed with the ribs as well. Perfect tenderness, meat pulled right off the bone. I stopped here since it was a good location right off the highway. The staff was extremely friendly and came outside to make sure I was doing good. OMG the most melt in your mouth brisket. I grew up in KC with Bryant's and Gates and LC's. I always get turkey when in KC because the brisket seems dry.
