Big Daddy's is hands dow. our favorite local spot!! We usually get the Fried Diablo chicken (served on top of their amazing garlic mashed potatoes) and the Louisiana Shrimp & grits (habanero goat cheese grits)!! Their Pretty Megs wings are fantastic. Go for gold with the Lucifer's mussels. Their jambalayas are delicious and even their Cajun burger was very well made. We have only had the pleasure of dining in once (before COVID-19) but their delivery/takeout is consistently awesome. (We unintentionally stumbled in during their Mardi Gras celebration- it was a really fun time!) even my picky-ish mother in law absolutely loves when we bring her home the Shrimp & grits! (We love spicy and she really doesn't- but everyone is always happy with Big Daddy's.) Prices are a little steep - as low as $16-$17 but really about $23-$48 for most dishes ($59 for surf n turf) but the portion sizes make sense for the price! The flavors are incredible. Highly recommend, 5/5 stars. If you're thinking about it- GO! We waited so long to try Big Daddy's (it was always on our list) and we didn't regret it. Wished we had tried it sooner!!! read more

Easily the best Nawlins comfort food you'll ever have. It's so good nothing else about the restaurant seems that important in comparison. The menu always changes, the food is always fresh, and the mixed drinks they offer are creative (even if I mostly stick with whiskey and beer). The portions are huge and while the price is slightly on the premium side, refer to the first sentence in this review. If you like spicy food, you can't miss Big Daddy's. First timer - heard plenty of good things about this place but I wasn't impressed. It's a small and casual restaurant with a decent sized bar and live music (I went on a weekend). Order the wings and they were probably my favorite item of the night. The stuffed shrimp was ehhh and didn't like the sides that it was served with; thought it was awkward. We were a party of 4 and only 2 of us had utensils so we asked for 2 forks once the food came out and we were told they had run out of forks!!! Huh??!? So finally we ask again and I guess someone quickly washed some and brought them to our table. read more

I can not say enough about this restaurant. Between the food, the atmosphere and staff, I don't know where to start. Everything about this place is top notch! Big Daddy's is wonderful! The food is absolutely delicious. I have just about tried the whole menu over the many years I've been going there and there is nothing that disappoints. RECOMMENDED Big Daddy's has been doling out great BBQ and Cajun/Creole food for decades. It is easy to get to. It is immediately south of the intersection of Sunrise Highway & Unqua Road.There should be plenty of parking along Front Street, just west of the Sunrise Mall. I hosted a dinner for fourteen there on November 22nd.Upon arrival, I ordered a Hurricane Deluxe, containing two more rums than the regular Hurricane. It was good, but not as stiff as the one I had at Storyville. The restaurant seated our group quickly at a long rectangular table. We were seated far enough from our neighbors to converse properly. Our waitress provided menus and took orders quickly. Kitchen performance was a slight issue, with one diner waiting much longer than others. Service was a bit slow when I ordered another Hurricane. It arrived late in my dinner. The food, however, more than made up for the aforementioned slight imperfections. I started my meal with Baked Oysters. They arrived fresh, hot and wonderfully cheesy. I also enjoyed a nice bite of my neighbors Alligator App. It was yummy......tastes like chicken :::))). I chose the Full Rack of St. Louis Ribs ($28.00) for my entree. It was a massive portions. ribs cooked in a slow manner are easy to mess up but these Ribs were near perfect. They fell off the bone but maintained a good chew at the same time. The accompanying BBQ Sauce was pleasantly tangy, with great vinegar flavor.The portion was so big that I had half of the rack for dinner the next day. Based on my group's comments, other dishes I can recommend are the BBQ Chicken, Jambalaya and Gumbo. Only the Oyster Po' Boy was viewed negatively, a diner saying that it contained very few oysters. The outdoor dining with live band looked so cute and fun. The food was not the greatest however. We basically spent $93 on overly seasoned food. The broiled oysters with gruyere were basically cheese cups. The cheese overpowered and you can't taste the oysters at all. The gator was really dry and tough and heavily seasoned with spices. The surf and turf was also a disappointment. There was a blue cheese type of sauce and again it overpowered everything on the plate. Steak was still good though. The shrimp was dry as hell - terrible. The spinach was doused in salt. The wings were great though! Only thing I liked about our meal!! Get it with some drinks and enjoy the live band outside on a nice day and you got yourself a great dinner. read more

I drove by it and decided to give this place a try. I wasn't that impressed with the interior decor. I get it, it's suppose to be a Louisiana vibe but that set aside, I was blown away by the food and cocktails they had to offer. Food was amazing and service was good too. Great little off the beaten path type of restaurant. A Massapequa icon. Big daddy's has been around for as long as I can remember and I should be coming here more frequently to be honest. Has a great dive bar type of atmosphere and has an Louisiana inspired menu. Definitely a fan of the ribs as well as the crab cake appetizer. read more

Made last minute reservations through open table for Valentine's Day. The restaurant was very dirty from the floors to the tables to the silver wear. Our table was wobbly. The plates for our appetizers were delivered and the person had their whole hand on the plate. Drinks took a long time because the bartender "lost the ticket". Service was not impressive. The appetizer dip had so much oil on it. This was my first bc time having dine in here. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I do not recommend it. read more

This place has expanded since the last time I was there. Everything i've ever had there is good, from the pull pork, to the ribs, to the chicken. Cornbread is good, baked beans are delicious. Easily worth going, there is something for everything. Not everything is spicy. A must get though is their wings. Something to keep in mind, they have a rotating menu, with a few things that stay on it from day to day. A big surprise was the jumbalaya. But I always seem to get the ribs. read more

Found myself exploring Amityville, LI with a friend and stumbled upon Big Daddy's-- a New Orléans inspired bar and restaurant. We arrived to a packed out spot with a live band. There was about a 40 minute wait on a Friday night. Funny enough, as soon as we found a seat at the bar, the host called us a for our table. We ordered a pitcher of Tropical Sangria, The Jefferson Parish Gator Tail, and a Shrimp Po-Boy. The Tropical Sangria was delicious and filled with plenty of wine to get a nice buzz. For two people, the carafe allowed for three refills each and we didn't even finish it. It was very fruity with a orange and lime as garnish. We were surprised by the complimentary baguette with this amazing chive whipped butter/cream cheese. The gator tail was seasoned well and came on a kebab stick. It was a bit chewy than I've had before and too small for a $13 price tag. It came with a habanero sauce and slaw that was hardly spicy but had a vinegaresque tangy taste. I would have preferred more habanero in the sauce. Lastly we had the shrimp Po-Boy with red beans/rice and Cajun fries. All of that left much to be desired. The Po-Boy bread was wonderfully toasted, the sauce was creamy, the slaw was the same one that came with the gator, and the shrimp was not fresh, but tasted fake and like it came from the frozen food section. Shrimp is very easy to distinguish. And hollow shrimp is not a restaurant's friend, it's just cheap and tastes empty on a Po-Boy. The red beans and rice were bland--it needs some kind of creole seasoning and to be cooked in a flavored broth. The fries were cool but the Cajun seasoning didn't blend well with the fries. This place deserves three stars for the service and drinks but not for the food especially if you have had original New Orleans Cuisine. read more

The food is awesome, service is awesome and the atmosphere is awesome! Just left the place (Wednesday night)... had takeout here a few times, this was my first time dining in. The hostess was super sweet and our waitress Rachel was awesome and super attentive! We started out with the crab cakes... very yummy. For an entree my husband had their smoked prime rib special (which came with a complimentary hurricane). I tasted it and thought it was amazing and he said it was one of the best prime ribs he's ever had (coming from a prime rib connoisseur). I had the vieux carre- pork and waffles. Whoaaaa check out the menu... this thing was dynamite! (Didn't even look like I put a dent in it it was so big) So many great options... can't wait to come back to try other things! Great experience! Beyond impressed with this place. We went for dinner here and everything was absolutely incredible. You can't find food like this anywhere else on Long Island. We started with the wings and the gator. The gator was delicious. It tastes like chicken just a little tougher but with the sauce and slaw that comes with it Youl be as impressed as we were. The wings were out of this world. Incredibly juicy with a top notch flavor. Some of the best I've ever had. Then we had the waffle with pulled pork and the pasta jambalaya. I can't even begin to explain how great both dishes were. Amazing. There's so many items on the menu I want and I can't wait to come back for me. I like this restaurant a lot. Like, a WHOLE lot. The ambiance is so casual and cool, everyone's there to have a good time, and the servers are so friendly. Do be mindful, though, that they have live music for some special occasions and while very good, it's also very, very loud. However, the food here is superb! I've been coming for years and it's yet to disappoint. Their normal dinner menu is very stereotypical Cajun, which is awesome! Their gumbo is a frequent Christmas gift for my family, and we reminisce about their po'boys. Today my family and I went for their Mother's Day brunch. We had to wait a good ten minutes for a table even though we made a reservation and ended up being tucked in a corner, but not the end of the world! In fact, our drinks and food were brought pretty quickly despite the fact that it was jam-packed, which made up for it. I ordered their Rajun Cajun Lobster BLT, which was on a brioche bun with a side of vinegar slaw and Cajun fries. The BLT was messy and delicious, the bacon was crispy, they didn't overdress with their chipotle aioli, and the fries could have been crispier (but that's okay). The rest of my party got the gumbo, chicken and waffles, crab cakes Benedict, and salmon with truffled risotto, all of which were splendid. Another solid win for Big Daddy's! Consistently pretty decent meals here. Had lunch here on Fat Tuesday and the place was jammed. We got seated fairly quickly and there was live music. They must have had 5 or 6 servers working the place. Our service was quite good, and fast. Our server made some good menu recommendations. We has burnt pork ends app which was a ten. It was served over perfectly cheesed grits with just the right amount of heat to compliment the vinegar based bbq style sauce that coated the pork tips. They should offer that as a main course. I ordered blackened catfish that exceeded my expectations. The fish was fresh, properly cooked and the right temperature and consistency. The portion was substantial and served over rice. The catfish was covered in a buttery étouffée with mushrooms, crabmeat, and gulf shrimp. The others in my party ordered poboys with fries. Their bread is very good and the sandwich is really two portions. There is enough to eat half and bring the other half home. I recommend this place. I have gotten take out from here before but I would order from the po'boy section. Their sandwiches are amazing honestly all their food has great flavor! This time I came to dine in and walked into live music on a Thursday night. It was kool to see it but it isn't really my style. It's great that they offer the live music I think I just wasn't expecting it when I walked in. Half way through us coming it ended so it wasn't too loud anymore which I appreciated. First thing we got was scallion butter and bread. The simplest thing but so good and we got extra bread because we just loved that butter so much. We also got mashed potatoes we asked for the garlic cheddar ones but I think they gave us regular ones so just double check if you decide to order the same thing. It was still delicious and we just put the butter on top which made it even better! The main dishes are large we got catfish and the seafoor etouffee. Both of these dishes were delicious had flavor and were filling. This is a great spot for a night out with friends and some flavorful food. read more

After a seven or so year Hiatus, I am disappointed it took so long to return!!! The food was better than I remember, and flat out delicious!!! Kitchen changed a bit years ago (one chef left, new ones were training etc) and hey nobody is ever perfect every night. The Jambalaya is always a safe way to go for a review... and depending on the night it can vary. I was there last night (May 3rd) and the jamby was absolutely insane. Just perfect. Was then told a chef from their old days was working. So naturally i told the waitress that we know that he killed it. Food was very very good! Pork chop was seasoned & cooked perfectly, so was the catfish. First time I tried alligator and it did not disappoint. For me the best dish was the gumbo-If I was to imagine myself in New Orleans the gumbo would've tasted exactly like that! The waitress was attentive, helpful and efficient. The atmosphere/decor was a bit disappointing, boring & bland- it could be so much better looking visual & they could make it more fun. Maybe it's different on the weekends?
