Love the decor of a classic BBQ joint as soon as you walk in. The warm cornbread to start was an awesome start to an amazing meal. We got the Cajun fundito and blackened gator to start, both were tasty and spicy!! For entree I got a jambalaya pasta, which was a tad bit to creamy for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed. New Orleans is my personal version of Disney World. It is my happiest place earth. I miss the food and the drinks from time to time and always am trying to find my "fix" while I'm home in NY. Bring in Big Daddy's. As New Orleans as you can get, while not ever leaving Long Island. Big Daddy's is on the smaller side and always has a wait. I mean always. My boyfriend and I finally managed to squeeze in on a Saturday evening and were told the wait would be 45 minutes. We found a seat at the bar (that took 10-15 minutes in itself) and ordered Abita. Hey, if you're going to pretend to be in NOLA, you might as well drink like it too. You can tell some people are returning customers that come here solely for the bar, and I really can't blame them. The bar area is a fun spot with all different walks of life. The bartenders get to know the regulars. Those that have never been to NOLA typically order a hurricane and regret it later. It's fun to watch a few minutes of your life. Right at the 45 minute mark, our table was ready. The restaurant area is VERY casual with steel tables and chairs. The menu has everything and anything you could get in the actual city of New Orleans itself. Plenty of apps to choose from but the entree portions are HUGE so we went right to that. I had the fried chicken over a bed of collard greens and rice. The chicken was perfectly fried with tons of flavor from the Cajun sauce on top. The collard greens were flavorful, and the rice brought the entire dish together. My boyfriend had the pasta jambalaya. Plenty of flavor in there, as well. The rigatoni was a nice touch to go with the spicy alfredo sauce. For dessert, they have a full selection of items, including beignets. As much as I wanted to top off the meal with those warm doughy pillows of goodness, I was stuffed and decided to just get the check (I already had a full piece of my chicken + the rice coming home with me!). Beers tend be to be $6 (during HH they might be less but we were there too late for that). Two entrees came out to $59, which is a steal considering how much food they give you. I only knocked off a star because their waiting system isn't the best. Leave your name, hang out by the very loud bar, hope they call your name. I didn't hear a single name called while we waited. The only reason we knew our table was ready was because we kept an eye on the time and when the 45 minutes passed, we stood directly next to the hostess stand. They either need to get a texting system in place or a beeper system. Especially for those on the other side of the bar where you truly cannot hear anything going on over by the door. I absolutely LOVE Big Daddy's. If I could give them more stars I absolutely would. If you enjoy giant portions of delicious Cajun cuisine then I highly recommend Big Daddy's. The decor is super cool. There is a strong New Orleans vibe that permeates through the entire establishment from purple walls, to Mardi Gras beads, to alligator heads mounted on the wall. The staff is also amazing. Service has always been fast and friendly and despite this places popularity I have never had to wait to be seated. The cocktails are great and usually served in those trendy mason jars. The food is off the charts. For an appetizer I suggest the alligator, clams, or the burnt ends and grits. My absolutely favorite entree is the Creole Jambalaya however last night I tried to Seafood Etouffe and was blown away. Like I said, the portions are enormous so I always end up getting a good portion wrapped to go which makes for a great lunch the next day. I just happened to stop by Big Daddy's yesterday so I could try something on their menu. I got the Pig Out, side of collards,and a slice of Key Lime pie. For me it was just ok, and a bit pricey. The slice of Key Lime pie was $11 per slice, side Collards $11, and the Pig Out $46, total came to $71.69 For a sould restaurant or Cuisine it's very pricey. My family is from McComb, Mississippi the cost of each dish is not that expensive. My whole family are Cooks and Chefs. Went here for Sunday brunch. Upon arrival I literally almost drove past it because it's at the corner and the parking situation sucks! Ended up turning around and parking on what seems to be the side. When we walked in I was surprised by how small it is, but it got packed pretty quickly. I ended up ordering a Caesar salad as an appetizer, which was actually amazing. As an entree, I believe the menu said, pork and waffles, but I asked for chicken instead. It came with cheese bacon, which I thought would be amazing because those are two of a foodies dream food additives but it was a bit much! The chicken was breaded and actually quite good but because of the excessive amount of cheese just thrown on the top it kind of ruined the chicken. The bacon was fatty despite asking for it to be cooked well done but I barely ate it. The waffle was pretty good as far as waffles go. Can't really mess up a waffle. Fries also weren't too bad. My friend ordered biscuits for the table which were pretty good. I also ordered a hurricane which was pretty tasty. There was a live band that took forever to begin and once they began I wasn't very impressed. Went here for my 21st birthday- now it's one of my new favorite restaurants ever. Literally every single thing I tried was soooo good. I had the alligator appetizer, tried the gumbo, had pasta jambalaya for an entree, and banana foster for dessert, as well as the hula rum drink. Everything was 10/10 literally so good. They have the best banana foster I've ever had. Alligator was very good, came with a delicious spicy pineapple sauce. Pasta Jambalaya was rich, creamy, and deliciously spicy as well. The hula rum punch was the perfect balance of juice and alcohol, you can definitely tell it is alcoholic, but it is not overpowering to the pineapple flavor. The staff was very friendly and kind. Always a treat to go to Big Daddys. It's a small, casual restaurant with a usual wait at night. Each night has a different special like Taco Tuesdays and Steak Night on Thursdays so be sure to take advantage of that. You are able to call to make a reservation but this time when we made a reservation, we wound up waiting an extra 45 mins to be seated. The waitress brought out bread for the table. I'm pretty sure I had a whole loaf myself because the bread and butter are that good. Every day they have featured meals and drinks to try. When we went I tried their drink special which was a lemonade with bourbon. For dinner, I had one of their featured meals. It was angel hair pasta with a jalapeno vodka sauce with shrimp and andouille sausage. Everything was delicious! The Veux Carre is my usual go to but I decided to venture out this time. I totally recommend it. My husband got the jambalaya and there's no denying... it's SPICY. The grits are also spicy but goes with everything. Love this place! read more

This is a beautifully hidden jem that totally surprised me. A friend of mine has been raving about this place for such a long time that i just had to drive out and check it out. It is a traditional dive bar restaurant, but the people working there are wonderful and the music playing when i was there was all country --all day...Luvd it!! Ok so i started with a glass of good bourbon and some Gumbo...to taste. Ok i was all in... I ordered Creole Jambalaya ...now i wanted it to melt the long drive in...but it wasn't that spicy...it was good and spicy..just not melt your mouth spicy...lol But it was ummm so good, and yummy... I know i will be back alot more. The portions are huge, I ate half and took the other 2lbs to go. So the price was well worth the meal and drinks. Keep in mind i an a really good eater--but it was more than i could do. Crystal took care of me and she offered a welcoming hello and was very helpful my entire time there. SO make sure you say Hi to her. I highly recommend this place for a good night out or as a great get together with friends...you may just fall for this place like i did! read more

What do you get when you mix a great yelp friend and some really delicious Creole food? The most amazing lunch EVER!!! :-) We started out with the Jefferson Parish Blackened Gator. Served as a kabob, the chunks of gator meat were moist and tender. The accompanying pineapple habanero sauce had just enough sweetness and heat to make your taste buds tingle. The red cabbage slaw had a sweetness to it as well which rounded out the dish perfectly. Next we had the Dixie Fried Chicken Sandwich. Not one, but TWO layers of crispy fried chicken, along with smoked bacon, melted Pepper Jack, lettuce, tomato, and a Chipotle sour cream sauce. The bacon was so melt-in-your-mouth delicious. OMG! The sandwich overall was excellent. It was so tall, I was just able to take bites out of it. If I could change anything, I think I would maybe add some red onion to it to add a little more bite, as the Chipotle sour cream seemed to be lacking any type of kick. Would I order it again? Most definitely! :-) The overall atmosphere here is relaxed. Even when the restaurant started filling up, the volume level was still pretty low. Great place to eat if you want to be able to chat and unwind. They also have a full bar for those that like to enjoy a cocktail with their meal. While the food was superb, what really put the meal over the top was the excellent company I was in. Oh man, oh my! I feel like I'm back in New Orleans. Big Daddy's is serving some fantastic Cajun comfort food & barbecue and it's so damn good!!!! I came across a post on Instagram by Yelp and the picture and caption had me look into this New Orleans- themed restaurant located in Massapequa. If you've ever been to Nawlins and enjoyed the food then you'll love Big Daddy's. Even if you haven't had real Cajun food and looking to try someone new you wouldn't be disappointed. I can't believe Cajun food this damn good is located here YES right here on Long Island!!!! We are some lucky Long Islanders to have this gem of deliciousness. I love this place and the food. Here's some of the items I've tried so far. I do plan on trying their whole menu: Number one must try are their Pretty Megs Wings- Slow smoked & crispy fried with a chipotle-mango sauce. Seriously come with a huge appetite for this meal you may want to skip breakfast or lunch. Vieux Carrie (Voo Ca Ray) Pork & Waffles- Slow smoked pulled pork, house smoked bacon, melted cheddar, bourbon maple syrup, Cajun fries. They ask for no substitutions. It's a little taste of heaven and I'm drooling as I think of it. Another must try is their Diablo Fried Chicken- Crispy fried cutlets, melted provolone, prosciutto, dark brown jalapeno gravy, garlic cheddar mashed potatoes & sautéed spinach. Would love to have had dessert but was way to stuffed and even needed a doggie bag to go home. Can't wait to come back everything was done just right. Then your choice of entrees I must admit I've been stuck on shrimp & grits delicious and jambalaya for years but tried the blacked catfish for something special on Mothers Day. Dee-Lickin lious! So Big Daddy's was one of our favorite restaurant for over 30 years. So much so that when my wife and I married in 2017 we had them cater our wedding party. Tom and the other employees where always the best and fun to be around. Hadn't been there since we moved to the north shore in November of 2020. Went back in early June and evidently there are new owners and both the food and the service was TERRIBLE! What happened? Hurricanes were sub par at best. Oysters on the half shell served warm with bad cocktail sauce, no vinegar lousy presentation. Entrée horrible piece of steak smothered in badly spiced gravy. Habanero cheese grits (one of my favorite dishes) awful! Never going back what a waste of money and extremely disappointing. We are heartbroken is all we can say. read more

Chrissy Justin and myself wanted dinner so wanted decided to go here, good choice We were seated right away an the waitress came over to see whether we wanted cocktails ,many choices but I stuck with my good old standby Heineken. The waitress was very patient with us cause we had a hard time choosing from the menu where everything looked good I finally chose the turducken over garlic mashed potatoes with a side of cranberry sauce it was outstanding moist delicious and very flavorful .it is boneless chicken stuffed into a boneless duck that stuff into a boneless turkey excellent Chrissy got the fried chicken with the garlic cheddar mashed potatoes which she said was delicious and Justin got the meatloaf stuffed with bacon and blue cheese which he said was moist and delicious Food desert I got the bread pudding with coconut and chocolate chip with ice cream to die for . My first time here I ate what I consider a conservative meal, I was very unfamiliar to Cajun food. Went back a second time, stepped out of my comfort zone and I LOVED IT. Cool, laid back atmosphere with a unique menu full of all kinds of crazy flavors. We all challenged each other to try something we normally wouldn't and none of us were disappointed. For years this is one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island and I can't believe I've never reviewed it. Honestly, in terms of Cajun/Creole - New Orleans-style cooking, Big Daddy's is hands down the best of its kind anywhere on Long Island. The menu is frequently morphing to reflect the changing agricultural seasons here on the island yet always retains that underlying NOLA flair - and SPICE! BD's menu features all of the usual Crescent City suspects but also presents originally creative dishes, and usually run the gamut from moderately spicy to lethal levels. Ask for their special homemade hot sauce created from fresh chilies and habaneros. My Lord! Their Sunday jazz brunches and happy hours are epic. Order the "deluxe" made "Pat O'Brian's" Hurricane and don't forget to bring a wheel chair. If you're a fan of this type of cuisine I highly recommend checking Big Daddy's, but be warned if you go on weekends, you WILL be waiting around for a long while for a table as there are NO reservations accepted on weekends - so get there early if you don't want to wait. Atmosphere and energy level is eclectic, LOUD, and crazy. Did I mention LOUD? Do not go here for a quiet night out. Walked in for Sunday Brunch and was greeted by music, always a good sign, just acoustic guitar which was fine. There was 6 of us and I luckily ordered 2 wings which were out of this world! I'm 65 and consider myself a wing expert and all I can say is these wings blew me away, top 5 of all time! Gumbo was very good and I had the oyster po boy which was scant on the oysters so I made one large half sandwich and saved on the bread. Seasoned fries were excellent, service very good so why only 4 stars? I always start with a cup of gumbo. Selection changes daily. I've been to NOLA and this place takes me back. Genuine creole dishes. Lucifers mussels have just the right measure of hot sauce and then the chef uses a heavy enough hand to sprinkle just enough blue cheese crumbles into the dish. Delectable. Pasta Jambalaya is another of my favorite selections. Andouille sausage, smoked turkey, ham, crawfish. Mouth watering yet? I have to admit I have never had dessert at this place. BUT IF I DID......Peanut butter and jelly pie! Full bar (have a hurricane). Parking lot is small. The place is always jammed. You'll find street parking easy enough. Let me know if the peanut butter and jelly pie is as good as I think it's going to be when I have my next opportunity to try it. Pecan pie is a good second choice. Let me saw Big Daddy's is one of my favorite places to go. Great Food and Drinks. But I. Made a reservation with open table for 8:30pm on 6/11/24 and I received a cal from the restaurant at 8:20 that they closed the kitchen and were closing early. I was a block away when I received the call. This is not the first time they've done this. In my opinion if you are looking to close early then do not accept any reservations for 1 hour prior to closing just in case you are slow and might close early. I wasn't happy the first time they did this and even less thrilled the 2nd time. It's bad enough that most of the reservation times are arbitrary as most reservations are seated late as they are normally busy but when slow they want to close early. Visit Date: July 21, 2015 Even though this isn't really the best place for a vegetarian to eat, there's still some options and it's still a good place. Just some quick notes! If you can't handle spice give the server a head's up and ask what dishes aren't very spicy or see if they can make a dish with no spice. If you're a spoiled brat and you want to have your meal made standard to your preferences do not come here. My friend who I ate dinner with who loves and knows New Orleans culture very well pointed out that eve though most restaurants will accommodate you they will not in New Orleans type restaurants. The atmosphere is great, we went on a Tuesday night so it was toned down but I can picture this place getting very much like a drunken mardi gras on Thursday to Saturday nights. The decor makes you feel like you stepped into New Orleans for a meal, restaurants that bring me on a mini-vacation for two hours are the ones I love most. They give you a standard chunk of bread with sweet butter before your meal. The sweet butter is pretty interesting, it has a slight tangy and sweet taste to it but it's not overpowering and it doesn't make your butter taste like sugar. For a meal I opted for the one vegetarian dish they had which I don't even think is on the menu, only vegetarian sides are on the menu. It's a pasta dish with vegetables in a cream sauce. The waiter warned me it would be spicy but I tried to be macho anyway. After a few bites of pasta my mouth was on fire. Luckily the waiter bought my dish in the back and they cut it with more cream sauce to take some of the spice away. Next time I go I am asking them to go easy on the spice. So given the inconsistency, I'm not sure what to make of the fact that the best things I ate at this restaurant were the two side dishes that came with my sub-par, over-priced entrées. Take this review with a grain of salt; as I did order takeout and I could see how some of these dishes may not necessarily travel well.
