Big Fish Restaurant is a hidden gem in Orange Beach! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, the inside is beautiful with a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing. The shrimp Alfredo was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked shrimp and a rich, flavorful sauce. The pink lemonade was also delicious and paired perfectly with the meal. Everything from the food to the service was excellent. I can't recommend this place enough and will definitely be back!

Big Fish in Orange Beach, AL, stands out as a premier seafood destination along the Alabama coast, and it's easy to see why many consider it the best. The menu features a wide variety of fresh catches that you can have served just like on the menu of a special daily chef style. Also, the sautéed crab claws are to die for and make sure you ask for the fresh French style toasted garlic butter bread. The waitstaff is always on it and never miss a beat. They have given a great recommendation every time I have gone. Even during busy hours, the service remains efficient, ensuring that diners have a pleasant experience. While not the cheapest option in Orange Beach, the prices reflect the quality of food and the overall dining experience, making it a worthwhile investment. Big Fish offers an exceptional seafood experience characterized by fresh ingredients, a vibrant atmosphere, and attentive service. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it's a place where you can enjoy the best of Alabama's coastal cuisine.

Everything!!! We love Big fish! We are in the area at least twice a year and it's a must! Everything they do is perfect. The only tiny complaint for me is the change made in the honey cake. I liked it better without the cherry's and chocolate. But that's ok! We use to look forward to our beach trips, now we look forward to our Big Fish trips!

My husband and I had dinner heee tonight. Instantly knew that we had a winner when we realized that there were a good amount of local, regulars here, versus a tourist crowd. There was a 45 minute wait, so we grabbed the first pair of seats at the bar. Austin served us and was an absolute king, making solid recommendations, including but not limited to the hot mimisake (sp?) roll. We knew it was going to be good as we watched tray after tray going out. It honestly looked like a pile of crab shavings but underneath it all was deliciousness. We had that, the beef tataki, which was also quite delicious, along with a perfectly cooked filet and honey cake for dessert. The filet came with a topping of bleu cheese, which I normally cannot stand, but it absolutely melted into the steak and the flavor pairing was to die for. The honey cake came with vanilla bean ice cream and a dollop of whipped cream, though the cake didn't need anything with it. Everything was absolutely perfect.

$20 Stop Drop & Roll. Tasted fine, but very lackluster. When each BITE is $2, I expect more. At least plating.

Went for my first time to Big Fish after a beach day. I had been looking for a spot with a happy hour, and Big Fish showed up in options for "happy hour" on yelp. Big Fish had been recommended to me by multiple locals in years past, so I thought sure why not? We got there during the very slim happy (literal) hour offered (3-4pm) -- hostesses were friendly and took us to a table 2 rooms over from their entrance door. The restaurant is in a strip mall but they've done a good job decorating and making it feel not like a strip mall. Our server was very pretty and efficient but I definitely got the feeling we weren't her ideal customers since I asked about the happy hour. I thought it was kinda weird she just told me what the happy hour offerings were and we weren't offered or given a written menu. I got a happy hour margarita and we got the happy hour tuna dip. Both were fine. Nothing special. Had I been in the mood for a $30+ dollar fish entree I'm sure it would've maybe been more impressive but I had heard the sushi was good so we opted for that. I know everything is more expensive now, but when a California roll alone is $12, that better be the best California roll ever. I got the Stop Drop & Roll (as of 9/25 $20) -- (Spicy Tuna, Cucumber & Tempura Flakes topped with Eel, Avocado, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo) and my boyfriend got the Red Dragon Roll (9/25 $22) -- (Tempura Shrimp, Avocado, Cream Cheese topped with Tuna, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo). Both were fine. Unimpressive. If I'm getting a $20 roll I honestly expect to be at least a LITTLE impressed. I was not. Will not be back. For my personal experience, 3 stars is generous. TLDR; Not a happy hour spot. Sushi overpriced IMO. Will not be back.

Ask the Community - Big Fish Restaurant & Bar

    I happy hour?

Yes but I don't remember the times. I believe it starts at 4:00.

    What's the attire like here?

It's coastal casual. This is a tourist town so as long as you are not in your swimsuit, no shirt, no shoes you will probably get seated. There was a variety of attire, shorts, dresses, pants, etc. I didn't see anyone in a suit.

    What is the dress code?

Their website said "Bring your A game!" or something like that. There were men in ball caps, jeans, shorts, t-shirts. Super casual is allowed. It appears like it's trying to be a nicer restaurant in decor but when it comes down to it, if you have…

Is there happy hour on food and drinks?

Yes, happy hour is 2-6 with appetizer and drink specials. There is more info on their facebook page

It's the food folks go there for. The oysters were fresh and served in a simple appealing way. The fish was white and firm and delicious. The grilled shrimp they are famous for do not have a savory flavor, tastes more like they were grilled with honey on them. We were not expecting that at all. We did not like the 30 dollars worth of sweet shrimp. It does come in very generous portion if you like that type of flavor. Hush puppies were pretty darn good, light, nicely seasoned with good flavor. The Cole slaw was excellent. All portions were generous. Overall they are friendly, the service is personable and efficient! Ambiance is that of a local diner style, not fancy just comfortable. We liked everything but the sweet grilled shrimp. We are from the north and maybe it is just a southern style we aren't familiar with or used to consuming. The gumbo is pretty good too. They have great mixed drinks and they have one that is a salted caramel flavor that is really excellent. Overall: would highly recommend for a good meal and friendly service. The place itself is gorgeous. The setting is fantastic. You walk in thinking, "Okay, this is going to be a great experience." Then somewhere between the host stand and the check, things begin to unravel. Today finally pushed me into Yelp-review territory. We stopped in around 1 p.m. on a slow Sunday. The hostesses were gathered around the stand chatting like somebody had just dropped screenshots from the group text. The person who eventually greeted us was wearing dark sunglasses inside, which was certainly a choice. Not exactly the polished first impression you expect from a restaurant charging these prices. Once seated, things didn't improve much. Our server struggled to explain the specials, answer basic menu questions, or really seem familiar with what the restaurant was serving. Again, if I'm paying Zeke's prices, I'm expecting something slightly more polished than, "I thinnnnk that comes with..." Then the food arrived. One sandwich was specifically ordered without onions because of a food allergy. It arrived covered in onions. Another meal was supposed to come with Brussels sprouts. It arrived with fries instead. Our server disappeared for about 15 minutes after the food was dropped, so by the time she came back, we were nearly finished eating and in need of refills. I mentioned the missing Brussels sprouts and was told they'd be "right out." The Brussels sprouts were not right out. In fact, the Brussels sprouts apparently entered the witness protection program because we never saw them again. Neither did our server. Eventually she returned with the checks, seemed surprised that the Brussels sprouts had never arrived, removed them from the bill, and otherwise appeared remarkably unconcerned that the meal had been wrong from beginning to end. And that's really my issue with Zeke's. Restaurants have off days. Kitchens make mistakes. Servers forget things. I get it. But when you're charging premium prices, service should be the easy part to get right... and after multiple visits, Zeke's consistently misses the mark. At this point, I'll spend my local dollars elsewhere. And if you're visiting from out of town, just know what you're getting into: the view may be beautiful, but there's a decent chance your wallet will leave considerably lighter while you're still wondering whatever happened to your Brussels sprouts.

It can be hit or miss depending on what you order however, we have been enough to know and share with others what to order and what to stay away from. The following is from our most recent visit. We began the meal with a Cosmo and a Fairhope Brewery Blue Steel Sour. Both were very good. The Blue Steel sour has notes of blueberry. For an appetizer we ordered the cheese dip. It consist of three cheeses, including Gruyere, which is one of our favorites. The cheese also comes with feta cheese and a tomato relish over the top, which we find very good. It makes the cheese dip a little different than others. The tomatoes are very soft and the relish is on the sweeter side. My Wife got the chicken roulade. It was okay. The chicken was good however, it is wrapped in bacon and flash fried. In our opinion the flash fry isn't needed and it adds the risk of the bacon being overdone or burnt, which is what happened. The Parmesan risotto was a little gummy but had good flavor. The cream sauce that accompanied the dish was probably the best part. I got the fish sandwich and upgraded from sheepshead to grouper. You can get it fried, blackened or grilled. I chose grilled and it was really good. It was not the first time I have gotten the fish sandwich. The bun is a sourdough/Hawaiian roll hybrid. I got an order of fries to go with the fish sandwich. Their fries are really really. They're slightly battered and crunchy. Very good with ketchup or tartar sauce or both! If you visit I would suggest sticking to the fish sandwich, burger or fish dish (grilled/blackened) that comes with a cream based sauce. Their drinks and beer is selection really good as well. Most of the time on weekends they have live music if that's your kind of thing.

One thing that stood out was the gift shop at the entrance--it could definitely use a refresh. The dark corner filled with outdated beach clothing isn't the best first impression. We visited on a Tuesday around 7:00 p.m., and there was no wait. During our meal, only about four tables were occupied, so it was very quiet. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us frequently. The only odd part of the atmosphere was that cartoons were playing on the bar TVs even though there weren't any kids in the restaurant. For dinner, my husband ordered the surf and turf, and his steak was cooked perfectly. The baked potato, however, came with an overwhelming amount of melted cheese--enough for several potatoes. I ordered the blackened grouper. It was cooked well and had good flavor, but the fillet was very thin and wasn't as memorable as other grouper dishes I've had. The whipped sweet potatoes were sweeter than expected from the brown sugar, and the Brussels sprouts were heavily coated in a sweet balsamic glaze, leaving them soft instead of crispy. I think both sides would be better with less added sweetness to let the natural flavors shine. We finished with the Bananas Foster, which was delicious and a fun presentation. It came with three small scoops of vanilla ice cream and half a banana. Since the flaming presentation takes a little time, larger scoops of ice cream would hold up better and not be half melted by the time the fire goes out. We would come back to avoid wait at other restaurants but would try different side dishes next time.
