Early dinner on Good Friday 2026. Sat in the bar area as usual. Had shrimp app, two wedge salads and two sushi rolls with wine. Service was great but I gotta tell you aside from the deconstructed wedge salad the rest of the food was extremely pedestrian for the money. This place is buzzing so they must do something right. Noticed that many or most people in the bar area knew everybody else so there must be a regular crowd that inhabits the bar area frequently. Better have your wallet ready as our meal set me back over $170. We have visited a few other times, mostly for the 3:00-4:00 happy hour for sushi and cocktails. Absolutely horrible experience. Waited much longer than estimated and seated 6 at one long table to all sit facing the bar. Asked to move and no problem for another wait. During that wait, others there way after us were seated. Drinks served in plastic cups but highly priced. Very disappointed as finally left without ever being seated. My husband and I had dinner heee tonight. Instantly knew that we had a winner when we realized that there were a good amount of local, regulars here, versus a tourist crowd. There was a 45 minute wait, so we grabbed the first pair of seats at the bar. Austin served us and was an absolute king, making solid recommendations, including but not limited to the hot mimisake (sp?) roll. We knew it was going to be good as we watched tray after tray going out. It honestly looked like a pile of crab shavings but underneath it all was deliciousness. We had that, the beef tataki, which was also quite delicious, along with a perfectly cooked filet and honey cake for dessert. The filet came with a topping of bleu cheese, which I normally cannot stand, but it absolutely melted into the steak and the flavor pairing was to die for. Came to spend some time at the beach before a friend's daughter wedding. I came here with my wife , the brides mother and aunt as well as with my sister and her husband and had an excellent experience! Maddison was the best waitress we all had in a long time. She made recommendations that we all liked. Nobody intended on dessert but Maddison was so incredible that we ordered 3 and all shared. Thank you Maddison for a great experience! My wife and I recently went to Big Fish for our anniversary. We requested a quiet corner table for privacy over the phone and they said that they didn't take reservations over the phone they would see what they could do. When we got there they remembered the phone call and had the perfect spot for us. It was perfect! The service was excellent, the drinks came out very quickly. My wife ordered the filet mignon was cooked to perfection. I ordered the crab cake entree with a lobster tail topper over rice with tempura cooked green beans with a wasabi drizzle. This is the first time I ordered this particular entree and I definitely WILL order this again! Went for my first time to Big Fish after a beach day. I had been looking for a spot with a happy hour, and Big Fish showed up in options for "happy hour" on yelp. Big Fish had been recommended to me by multiple locals in years past, so I thought sure why not? We got there during the very slim happy (literal) hour offered (3-4pm) -- hostesses were friendly and took us to a table 2 rooms over from their entrance door. The restaurant is in a strip mall but they've done a good job decorating and making it feel not like a strip mall. Our server was very pretty and efficient but I definitely got the feeling we weren't her ideal customers since I asked about the happy hour. I thought it was kinda weird she just told me what the happy hour offerings were and we weren't offered or given a written menu. I got a happy hour margarita and we got the happy hour tuna dip. Both were fine. Nothing special. Had I been in the mood for a $30+ dollar fish entree I'm sure it would've maybe been more impressive but I had heard the sushi was good so we opted for that. I know everything is more expensive now, but when a California roll alone is $12, that better be the best California roll ever. I got the Stop Drop & Roll (as of 9/25 $20) -- (Spicy Tuna, Cucumber & Tempura Flakes topped with Eel, Avocado, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo) and my boyfriend got the Red Dragon Roll (9/25 $22) -- (Tempura Shrimp, Avocado, Cream Cheese topped with Tuna, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo). The best seafood I've had in the Orange Beach area. We arrived early, around 4:30 on a Friday. You can't assume a book by its cover, don't let the strip mall appearance fool you, this establishment is at the top of the local heap. We had the Firecracker Shrimp and the Lump Crab Cakes. The Crab Cakes were fresh and delicious as was the Firecracker Shrimp. I've been to Cobalt multiple times and this is just as good if not better. read more

First off, it doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is beautiful and much more fancy. For apps we got the firecracker shrimp (5/5) and the spicy crab salad (2/5). Came back to where we used to live and stopped at our favorite restaurant. Was surprised that I never reviewed them before. Should have taken more pictures! Well decorated place that does not take reservations but worth the wait if there ever is one. Nice bar area with a decent size bar and some table's. Ever since we starting coming here the service is always spectacular, the only thing better is their food. My wife and I have always enjoyed it since she does not like seafood and the filet with the mashed potatoes is perfect. There are other choices for her also. Visited on a Thursday night in offseason, not busy so we were seated right away. I would tend to believe during season, a reservation would be highly recommended. Cute restaurant, white table cloths covered with white paper. Nicely lit, not too dark. And not too noisy, we could hear each other talk which was nice. Our server suggested the Blue Crab Claws sauteed in white wine butter sauce. They were delicious! We also ordered the fresh bread to dip in the sauce, chef's kiss!!!! For our meal, we both chose the Select Your Catch. We had the snapper and the swordfish, both sauteed. I believe it was served chef's choice or something like that. The fish was on top of a bed of rice and sauteed vegetables. If we didn't want to try all the seafood places in Gulf Shores, we would probably have returned the next night. The bill came and totaled for $18 for the stir fry and $32 for the 3 scallops to $50. Not what I was told. The environment - They sat us in the booth line behind the bar, it was dark and difficult to see. I could hardly read the menu. The food - I ordered the Grouper prepared with dill and capers. It came thick and tough. The second I had to pick up my knife to cut through the fish, I knew I had to send it back. It was promptly replaced with the Red Snapper prepared "Big Fish Style" sauteed fish, topped with scallions & ginger, served with spinach & jasmine rice in a sherry soy broth. I'll admit it was a solid dish, but is it worth $48, no. My toddler had the chicken and fries, heavy on the fries lacking in chicken. Their servers and management are efficient and kind. Friends told us we should try Big Fish on our next trip to Orange Beach. So, we did...and I am so glad we did. I have food allergies, and they are very accommodating. The bar tender Dylan/Dillon told me to just let him know my issues, and the chef would make sure my needs were taken care of. Dylan/Dillon was super attentive and patient in answering my questions. The fish was fresh and yummy. They have a full bar and there is lots of seating at the bar as well as in the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We both had triple tail fish. After years of recommending this place, I can honestly say I won't be going back and will not recommend. My husband and I went in last night at 7 PM. The place was not crowded and was not on a wait. We were seated at the worst possible seats in the building and had to sit side-by-side to avoid being bumped by traffic. We promptly ordered food which consisted of a wedge salad with grilled shrimp and the Ahi tuna. I also ordered a glass of wine. It was 20 minutes before the wine arrived. It took one hour to receive a salad with grilled shrimp which were cold. By the time the food arrived, the Ahi tuna was cold. Potatoes were cold as well as the green beans. The waitr made multiple comments that our food was coming, but yet it still took an hour. When the food did arrive, she commented and made an excuse about the sushi bar, backing up the entire kitchen and even used the term "shit show "to describe it. The addition of 6 tiny, cold shrimp to a wedge salad was $12 up charge to a $12 tiny wedge with another upcharge for a small extra blue cheese dressing. We witnessed trays of prepared sushi orders sit for upwards of 20-25 minutes before wait staff picked up for delivery to tables. Complete fail Big Fish! read more

We were looking for a place to celebrate my wife's birthday while on vacation. We visit here often and enjoy many of the restaurants in the area. After looking through menus for hours, we landed on Big Fish. Big Disappointment. It was Saturday night, and we expected a long wait to be seated. My wife let our waitress know that we were celebrating a birthday. We ordered our appetizer, and the dynamite shrimp was delicious(but not very spicy at all). Then we waited... and waited. 40 minutes passed. Our waitress came by to let us know we were "next in the window", and used the term "shit show" to describe the kitchen. The tables on both sides of us had been waiting for their food just as long as we had been waiting. 15 minutes later our waitress said we were "in the window". I was trying to envision how large this window must be. By the time we received our food, we were so disappointed in how the evening had gone that it didn't matter how the food tasted. The fish was good, but the Spinach had way too much garlic in it. Our waitress brought the check, no offer of a birthday dessert or any kind of "make-good" for our 2+ hour meal. Never again.
