My Wife and I typically visit this place every year when we go to the beach. The service is always top notch. Every waitress we have ever had has been very sweet and down to earth. Fire Cracker Shrimp Fried Rice - 9.2 I order this every time we visit. It is my favorite dish of all the places we visit each year at the beach. It may not be the best but definitely my favorite and in the top 3 as far as best goes. The fried egg on top really puts it over the top although, I do wish it was runny and not cooked through. Gyoza - 7.0 Has a lot of filling which is good however, it isn't very seasoned or flavorful. They appeared to be fried however, not very crispy. We try gyoza at nearly any restaurant we visit that has it on the menu. Comparing this to other gyoza's, it's good but not great. Tuna Lovers Roll - 7.8 Roll was good but a little too spicy. The spice was expected obviously but still a tad too spicy. It also lacked the correct amount of sauce in my opinion. It also needed another ingredient or two to take it to the next level. Sesame Cracker w/ Honey Butter - 8.4 I rated it a little higher due to the originality. I have eaten at restaurants in half the States that make up this country and have never had toasted sesame crackers with honey butter. It is a thing in the South to have saltines, club cracker, etc. with butter at seafood and steak restaurants. However, I haven't seen this combo. It was good and not too filling. read more

Big Fish Restaurant is a hidden gem in Orange Beach! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, the inside is beautiful with a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing. The shrimp Alfredo was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked shrimp and a rich, flavorful sauce. The pink lemonade was also delicious and paired perfectly with the meal. Everything from the food to the service was excellent. My husband and I had dinner heee tonight. Instantly knew that we had a winner when we realized that there were a good amount of local, regulars here, versus a tourist crowd. There was a 45 minute wait, so we grabbed the first pair of seats at the bar. Austin served us and was an absolute king, making solid recommendations, including but not limited to the hot mimisake (sp?) roll. We knew it was going to be good as we watched tray after tray going out. It honestly looked like a pile of crab shavings but underneath it all was deliciousness. We had that, the beef tataki, which was also quite delicious, along with a perfectly cooked filet and honey cake for dessert. The filet came with a topping of bleu cheese, which I normally cannot stand, but it absolutely melted into the steak and the flavor pairing was to die for. We went out for my birthday dinner while we were in orange beach on vacation with a party of 16. There was a slight delay getting seated with such a large party since they don't take reservations. They asked if we called ahead for seating, so we might try that next time. Everyone loved everything they got. I got the filet with a lobster tail and it was fantastic. My brother-in-law got us 5 sushi rolls and we shared the sushi and surf and turf. The rolls were all phenomenal. The old fashioned with knob creek was solid and I had an ipa. My girlfriend and I came here on Saturday 6/20 ~ 6:30pm and I was disappointed to say the least. First and foremost, there was a low table set on the CUSTOMER SIDE of the crowded bar that was being used as a pass for the sushi with a sign that says "please don't hover over the sushi". Having prepared sitting food outside of the kitchen area for up to 10 minutes at butt level with customers constantly walking by is a BIG HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. This table was also being used by the bussing staff to put stacks of dirty dishes for pickup at the SAME TIME IT HAD FOOD TO SEND TO CUSTOMERS. Secondly, we were seated at a booth across from the bar and consistently had large groups gathering in front of our table and, at points, leaning over us. This is understandable for a small business at rush hour, but with the prices Big Fish is charging, I feel like they can afford to move into a larger establishment to accommodate their seating arrangements. $191.00 for an appetizer (sautéed crab claws 7/10) and 2 meals (filet mignon 8/10 and ribeye 4/10) and 2 sweet teas. Our waitress was the bright spot and the reason for the second star. She did a superb job and was hustling the whole time. She also told us to "stay as long as we'd like", which directly went against the note in the menu politely asking patrons to eat and leave due to a "high demand for tables". Went for my first time to Big Fish after a beach day. I had been looking for a spot with a happy hour, and Big Fish showed up in options for "happy hour" on yelp. Big Fish had been recommended to me by multiple locals in years past, so I thought sure why not? We got there during the very slim happy (literal) hour offered (3-4pm) -- hostesses were friendly and took us to a table 2 rooms over from their entrance door. The restaurant is in a strip mall but they've done a good job decorating and making it feel not like a strip mall. Our server was very pretty and efficient but I definitely got the feeling we weren't her ideal customers since I asked about the happy hour. I thought it was kinda weird she just told me what the happy hour offerings were and we weren't offered or given a written menu. I got a happy hour margarita and we got the happy hour tuna dip. Both were fine. Nothing special. Had I been in the mood for a $30+ dollar fish entree I'm sure it would've maybe been more impressive but I had heard the sushi was good so we opted for that. I know everything is more expensive now, but when a California roll alone is $12, that better be the best California roll ever. I got the Stop Drop & Roll (as of 9/25 $20) -- (Spicy Tuna, Cucumber & Tempura Flakes topped with Eel, Avocado, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo) and my boyfriend got the Red Dragon Roll (9/25 $22) -- (Tempura Shrimp, Avocado, Cream Cheese topped with Tuna, Eel Sauce & Spicy Mayo). I came here with my wife , the brides mother and aunt as well as with my sister and her husband and had an excellent experience! Maddison was the best waitress we all had in a long time. This is clearly a pretty popular spot to eat as during prime dinner time you should expect a little bit of a wait. However, once you're seated it's a great experience or Atleast in my case. The best seafood I've had in the Orange Beach area. We arrived early, around 4:30 on a Friday. You can't assume a book by its cover, don't let the strip mall appearance fool you, this establishment is at the top of the local heap. We had the Firecracker Shrimp and the Lump Crab Cakes. The Crab Cakes were fresh and delicious as was the Firecracker Shrimp. I've been to Cobalt multiple times and this is just as good if not better. read more

My wife and I recently went to Big Fish for our anniversary. We requested a quiet corner table for privacy over the phone and they said that they didn't take reservations over the phone they would see what they could do. When we got there they remembered the phone call and had the perfect spot for us. It was perfect! The service was excellent, the drinks came out very quickly. My wife ordered the filet mignon was cooked to perfection. I ordered the crab cake entree with a lobster tail topper over rice with tempura cooked green beans with a wasabi drizzle. This is the first time I ordered this particular entree and I definitely WILL order this again! It came thick and tough. The second I had to pick up my knife to cut through the fish, I knew I had to send it back. It was promptly replaced with the Red Snapper prepared "Big Fish Style" sauteed fish, topped with scallions & ginger, served with spinach & jasmine rice in a sherry soy broth. I'll admit it was a solid dish, but is it worth $48, no. My toddler had the chicken and fries, heavy on the fries lacking in chicken. Their servers and management are efficient and kind. One filet, one ribeye. I must say they were both delicious! The green beans and mashed potatoes were cool by the time I got it. My husband had the filet. Muuuaaaahhh!!! It was delicious!! The bill came and totaled for $18 for the stir fry and $32 for the 3 scallops to $50. Not what I was told. The stir fry with the scallops were excellent as was the service but not worth $32 for 3 scallops. Visited on a Thursday night in offseason, not busy so we were seated right away. I would tend to believe during season, a reservation would be highly recommended. Cute restaurant, white table cloths covered with white paper. Nicely lit, not too dark. And not too noisy, we could hear each other talk which was nice. Our server suggested the Blue Crab Claws sauteed in white wine butter sauce. They were delicious! We also ordered the fresh bread to dip in the sauce, chef's kiss!!!! For our meal, we both chose the Select Your Catch. We had the snapper and the swordfish, both sauteed. I believe it was served chef's choice or something like that. The fish was on top of a bed of rice and sauteed vegetables. If we didn't want to try all the seafood places in Gulf Shores, we would probably have returned the next night. Friends told us we should try Big Fish on our next trip to Orange Beach. So, we did...and I am so glad we did. I have food allergies, and they are very accommodating. The bar tender Dylan/Dillon told me to just let him know my issues, and the chef would make sure my needs were taken care of. Dylan/Dillon was super attentive and patient in answering my questions. The fish was fresh and yummy. They have a full bar and there is lots of seating at the bar as well as in the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We both had triple tail fish.
