Basement drain was backing up and the sump pump wasn't working properly. Had one of those big brand names come out to take a look and they couldn't even find the main line cap. Jim was able to find the cap through a texted picture. Clearly didn't go with the big brand name, and had him out shortly thereafter. Showed up right when he said he would and was in and out. Even gave a couple pointers if something started to happen again in the future. For sure keeping his number in case any other plumbing needs come up again. read more

Had a company out Friday morning-the man walked off the job and said he didn't want it because his knee was hurt! Monday morning another company comes out and wants $1,100 for the Install only after I got the wet ruined floor under it replaced. OMG Found Big Lee he had someone out same day (Monday noon)and it was replaced in less than two hours! At HALF the labor cost AND fixed the floor of the prior company. I was referred to this service by a friend. I had a leak coming from my upstairs bathroom to kitchen ceiling. At first glance this appeared to be an old problem from builder who did a shoddy job. Big Jim's came out told me it needed a flange. So we fixed it. Given we don't use upper bathroom a lot we thought all was well until we had company and discovered it leaking about 2 months after the fix. So called Big Jim's again told them they hadn't fixed issue. They came out did additional exploring. Found it was actually shower pipe. They charged me full price til I complained about original unnecessary fix. Offered me a discount which I thought was fair on 2nd fix. They did a good job on second fix and it held so we know issue of leak is done. Overall I think fair service and price. read more

Kitchen sink would not drain. Called a local sewer and drain cleaning company who came out but could not fix the problem. Sewer line under basement floor had to be snaked a number of times and he did not have the proper equipment for that. Found out about Big Jim's from a friend. They came out the next day and were able to solve the problem. The young man that came out was very polite and was very careful in protecting our floors and stairs and such. He did a great job for a fair price and I am very happy with the result. read more

A+ Service !! I called on a Friday evening because we were having a backup in a basement pipe and they said they could be here the next morning (Sat) between 9-11. A good friend of mine contacted me in a panic because she had just discovered sewer water backing up in her basement. She had no idea who to call so I looked up on Yelp and found big Jim's sewer and drain cleaning. Spoke with Jim on the phone and he said he could have somebody Out later this evening. I gave him the phone number of my friend and I understand that he called her and let her know approximately what time the service man will be there. The service person, Joe, was out there earlier than expected. He was truly kind and professional even though he had worked a 12 hour day. He quickly went through all the possible options for the back up, help my friend move things in the basement and let her know which items to keep and clean. Joel went above and beyond been taking care of the blockage. The price was reasonable for what he had done. As my friend only had cash to pay the bill she offered Jo a tip for his services, which she promptly declined saying they weren't allowed to take tips. During all this Joe remained calm and professional. I know a lot of us have this type of problem and I would strongly recommend using big Jim's company for your needs. read more

We called and they came out the same day within a couple of hours. Our main drain had backed up. It was blocked in the downstairs area over the laundry room area. He wanted to use the upstairs kitchen pipe to reach this area. We asked him to go in the pipe directly overhead in the downstairs area so that we would have less of a mess. He took of the elbow pipe that he needed to access the drain line with and handed it to my daughter. She had to find a bucket to put it in (as they didn't bring one) and clean it out with the hose. They used our small step ladder. He cleaned the drain and when they were done they took the rooter snake machine up the carpeted stairs instead taking it out on the tile leading to the back door. The tile would have been much easier to sanitize than the carpet. We had to sanitize the ladder, bucket and clean the carpet. The drain had backed up on the floor. They would walk on the floor, tile, and carpet and upstairs in the kitchen without a thought to spreading the mess all over. The good points of the company are that they came out in a timely manner and did the job. The bad points of the company are that they were not concerned with sanitation. read more

Very, very pleased with Big Jim's service. The men who cleaned the drains in the basement laundry room and bathroom sink were quick, efficient, and knowledgeable. They also kept the area clean when they worked and left the area clean when they were done. I appreciated Josh's explanations of what was being done and his suggestion to do the bathroom sink now too (saving me money on another service call). It was Four / Five Star service - the caveat and reduction are because Jim - on the phone - promised one price - $150 for the main line cleaning with the rooter, and the guy on site the next day charged $170. That said, we have an older farmhouse and the downstairs toilet and bathtub started backing up, it was the weekend, so I dumped some Liquid Plumber down, plunged a lot, and told the kids not to flush unless they "had" to. By Sunday evening, things were unchanged, so I called to leave messages at some plumbers, including one I had from Angie's list in Detroit that had a $99 regularly $229 main sewer line cleaning, but speed was my primary concern, so after leaving a couple of messages I called Jim's which is local and got him on the phone - at around dinner time on Sunday. He said he could have someone out the next day around 10:00 am and that he could do it for $150, after a brief negotiation and discussion of the fact that there was no "clean out" (that I could find) and I had dug up about 3 feet outside the house of the main line. The young man who came the next morning around 10 was knowledgeable and professional, he explained where our line went (I was surprised that it bent around the house - I thought the sewer ran at the back of the property line) and what it would likely cost, we discussed putting in a "clean out" as this old house doesn't have one yet, and he found a replaced section of pipe in the basement from which he could access the drain, saving the cost of pulling the toilet. I did discuss that Jim had said it would be $150 and request that price but didn't insist on it because he did what (so far!) was good work and he was otherwise very professional, but I have to reduce the "stars" as one price was negotiated and a slightly higher one was charged. I will certainly consider using them again, but would make sure that the price negotiated is the price charged. That aside, the service was very good. read more
