We had a flat tire on a new set of tires on our Subaru Impreza recently. We did a warranty replacement through Tire Rack and had the tire mounted and balanced after some back and forth with the sales staff who tried to charge us for additional and unnecessary services. Last week we had another flat and had already purchased a replacement through Tire Rack and returned to Big O to have it mounted and balanced. The manager refused to do the job making excuses and trying to get me to purchase all new tires which were barely six months old. And the car sat for 3 of those 6 months due to my work injury and my not driving the car while recovering. The manager was extremely rude and condescending. We came here because my son had his tires replaced (also purchased on Tire Rack) here on his C7 Corvette Grand Sport and had recommended this shop. Never again. Warning! Horrible service! Long story short, scheduled an appointment for an alignment only which was approved by the branch by email. When the day came (05/28), I showed up 5 mins early, checked in, and was told they weren't going to do it. I politely asked to speak to the manager who came out aggressive and pissed off, said too bad so sad we're not going to help you, the tech is on 2 hours of OT and we don't care if you have an appointment, you are not going to be helped. I asked for assistance rescheduling, and he told me he won't (not can't) help me reschedule it and to do it online myself. No apologies, no sorry, no remorse. Just an attitude of I don't care and get wrecked. It was frustrating because I had an appointment. If there are scheduling issues I understand but would have appreciated a call to cancel so I didn't take off work to drive all the way there to get told to eff off. But instead, just get to get yelled at for asking for answers. I'd like to speak with someone regarding the level of customer service, as I usually don't complain and don't mind compromising but FRANCISCO was so aggressive and rude. Bottom line- I went in for an oil change, left with a $600 bill filled with other things they found wrong with my car. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I had gone to them for a few oil changes prior to that last appointment. A month after that huge bill I went back bc the engine light came on & apparently the hose on my transmission was loose and the manager said, "the last person who worked on your car should've caught that." I've only been going to them for all services, so that was upsetting to hear. Had to go to another mechanic and spend another $800 to fix a problem that could've been prevented. I later learned that others in the neighborhood had the same experience & recommend only going to this place for tires. Lesson learned. read more

I took my 1978 Chevy pickup in for an alignment. Big O said I first needed new tires before they could do an alignment. (The treads on the existing tires were fine, but the sides were "chapped.") Four new tires and $644 later, Big O said they couldn't do an alignment because the vehicle needed new idler arms, rod sleeves, bearings, etc. - another $1,316. "Never mind," I said, "let me have my truck back." Big O then said they broke the driver's window handle. "Not okay," I said, "Replace it." Big O then took several more days and eventually replaced it with a handle that didn't match the passenger's side. "Not okay," I said, "Replace it." More days passed. Big O eventually put in two new handles, not matching the original classic ones but, at this point, I just wanted my truck back. Three blocks off the lot, the brakes froze up. The vehicle could not move and I almost got in an accident. Eventually I made it back to Big O and was told the "parking brake cable was routed incorrectly so that it was constantly engaged" - although everything (other than the alignment) worked fine before. But there was something still wrong with the brakes; not trusting Big O, I took the vehicle to Gotelli's Brake Repair in Benicia, who put in new pads, shoes, master cylinder, etc. Gotelli said it was unlikely that Big O had caused any damage to the brakes, but I have my doubts. Big O seems to be in the business of "selling" not "fixing." read more

I have been coming here for many years and they have serviced both of my cars that I've had and they have always made sure that they are done quick and then I'm back on the road in no time! The customer service was good at this location, they didn't over charge me at all, my problem is with whoever the tech was that changed out my tires, did a pretty sloppy job, 3 of my wheels are chipped and he left the liquid all over my tires, it was dark so I didn't notice! The work order says they're not responsible for damaging wheels so I just will not go back to this location! read more

Perhaps not the best representation of a Benicia business... The days of honesty, hospitality, transparency and good ol' customer service are long gone if you're counting on this Big O location. Unfortunately I've seen Johnathan's name appear in other negative reviews, so maybe Robert or corporate is paying attention. All help ISN'T good help. Better communication, staffing, management, and office cleanliness would definitely benefit this business. Perhaps a bit of cleaning in the lobby would make the atrocious wait times more bearable. The floors, windows, dust and cobwebs are the first thing noticed. They are experiencing staffing issues but still take in several more vehicles than they can accommodate. There are more front desk salesmen than mechanics to perform the work. They underestimate wait times to get you committed then leave you high and dry to wait patiently. I had to cancel my day's plans while waiting 5 hours for my 2-hour estimated repair to be completed. When I complained about the near 5-hour wait, was told "I said 2 hours just to get in the shop." When you are dishonest about even simple communication it doesn't make for a good experience. Johnathan felt he communicated effectively and chose to spend my customer contact moment telling me how I'd misunderstood everything he said in the 5 hours I was there. This is the wrong "customer service" approach considering it's your business that is shortchanging customers with your staffing shortage issues. Maybe some training on listening, not taking it personal, and communicating effectively would help. I am entitled to discuss my experience and even complain if that's what's needed. By the way... "comping" me a service that you quoted as "free" isn't a positive at all. Telling me I misunderstood that, too, is insulting. Johnathan also lied about the manager returning from lunch in 20 minutes when another employee called and Robert (manager) and advised me he wasn't coming in. The inmates are definitely running the asylum here. Didn't get loud, wasn't disrespectful, and didn't make a scene when voicing my concerns. My payment "went through", no issues. Big O tires opens at 8:30am on Saturday. I called them at 8:35am they answered then put me on hold. Meanwhile I was being proactive and jacked my car up, removed the tire, loaded the tire into my truck, drove to big o tires, carried the tire inside the building, still on hold. I said I called and was placed on hold. The man that greeted me said "oh yeah if you called this early I would have just put you on hold" One guy was making coffee, two guys came from the back room and weren't too busy to answer the phone, another guy was moving a car in the parking lot. The man who greeted me was just standing at the desk when I walked into the building. What's funny is that the night before when the tire blew out I was at my neighbors house talking about needing a tire, they asked if I was going to big o tires here in town, I said no that place has horrible customer service. They explained to me that they are under new management now and they didn't have any issues with them the most recent time they were there. Clearly nothing has changed. read more

Big o Having had my car towed to big o for a blowout, I was sold a replacement ( $ 314) and charged a tire disposal fee of $6.75. As I had purchased the blown tire from a competitor, I took the ruined tire with me to be reimbursed by the competitor, which they promptly did. When I asked Benicia Big -O for refund on the disposal charge they refused, even though they did not dispose of it, and suggested I take it up with the state. I wish there was more choices within Benicia. read more

I've gone to this Big O several times, the location convenient and the service techs nice. Several things happened on my last visit: the wrong issue was diagnosed, not both rear wheel wheel bearings, but the front left. It costs less, so no one called me to let me know. I was told when I paid it was less because the issue was misdiagnosed. The tech shared that mechanic, who diagnosed the issue, was no longer working there - he had made many mistakes. Ok. 36 hours later I'm driving from Napa down Hwy 29 late after work and it feels like something is going to drop out of the bottom of my car when I press the brakes. So, I drive slower and lightly ride the brakes, thankful I hit several green lights. My anxiety level begins to rise because I'm driving in a not so good neighborhood, have no one to call, and afraid (at a minimum) my brakes aren't going to work when I need them. A few miles from my local dealership, the ABS light starts to blink then comes on along with the traction light. I make it to the dealer and leave my car outside the service department. I'm told the next day, they couldn't replicate the warning lights, however they found a damaged ABS sensor on the front left wheel. The right front sensor is fine - see pics. (NOTE: the front right HUB assembly was replaced by Big O about 8 months prior for approx $700.) I explained I don't know anything about the inner workings of cars and ask him to communicate this with the Toyota rep. When I pick up my car a Toyota mechanic, who hadn't worked on my car was asked what he thought from looking at the pics ... 'easy it was installed wrong which caused the damage.' I tried to share this with the Big O Sales Manager who got defensive. telling me the ABS sensor is electric and electrical parts wear out. And adds, as soon as I heard it was an ABS sensor I should have brought the car back to Big O because they have a warranty on their work. He then lectures at me they could have done it cheaper because dealerships mark up their prices "300%." He looked up a part and told me he could can get an ABS sensor assembly for $48. (I later Googled the part replaced : OEM Toyota $208, Autozone $215 plus tax and SH). To be sure this wasn't an anomaly, I looked at the cost of parts replaced by Big O 8 months prior. Big O price was about 10% to 15% cheaper than OEM parts. I was offered a store credit of $196, which I declined and was told I would need to speak to the "higher ups" and would receive a call. Several days later when I called back, I was told "Jason" tried to call me, letting me know they approved a refund of $200 (the cost to Big O to fix it, $196 for ABS assembly replacement plus .6 hours of labor). This is a little less than a third what I paid Toyota. Ideally, I would have been reimbursed for the entire cost. If Toyota had made the mistake they would have gone the extra mile to fix it: 1. a sincere apology 2. A rental car, if needed 3. Clear, kind communication. No one from Big O Benicia apologized for the frightening driving experience, the inconvenience of finding transportation, etc.. Instead, I was lectured to, talked over and then dismissed with a take it or leave it final offer. I would love the opportunity to speak to Jason, as I wasn't given his number although I asked for it, or another Big O representative. I may not know much about cars, but I know a lot about people; and unless something changes there will be many other customers who will experience the same, and both I and the local community deserve better. read more

This review is about customer service and attitude. I took my VW here for an oil change. The service adviser, Ryan, asked me for my keys and, with no explanation, went out to the car and was gone for around ten minutes. My husband saw him checking the tires and asked me if I told them I was there for an oil change. So I went outside and asked Ryan what he was doing and he gave me a really snotty look and said something about that he was checking the tires. And I replied well, you know, I'm here for an oil change, and then I got another snotty look and a reply along the lines of well, we have to check the tires. OK, so right off the bat, if he'd have taken my keys and said that he'd be back in a few minutes, that he needed to do a few preliminary checks, that would have been fine. But instead, I got attitude as did my husband, who takes his car there frequently. So the oil change was completed and I go to pick up the car and I get Ryan again, this time munching on sunflower seeds as he is completing the paper work. I do not get a smile or a "thank you." After the paper work was completed, I waited a bit for him to point me to my car, then I looked across the street and see it and I say, "Oh, so the car is across the street." "Yup." And that was it and so here I am, a seventy-six year old woman, making my way across Military East at 4:00 in the afternoon to get my car. I dunno, maybe they are short-staffed, but it seems to me that SOMEONE could have brought the car over for me. I brought the car here for an oil change because it was cheaper than the dealership. But next time, I will be taking the car to the dealership and paying an extra $50 and in return, I will get respect, courtesy, and gratitude for my business. Ted was really helpful with my batteries for my Sea Bring Chrysler and my Honda Pilot when I went to pickup my SeaBring but Robert told me I also needed tires for my car and told me I would have to wait 2.5 hours just for my battery and was charging me more than I was quoted on the phone by 3 other mechanics! I did not buy the tires and Ted was very polite and got my car for me and put the Pilot battery in my trunk for me. Thank you Ted for all your help! I give you 5 stars. I took my car there at 11am today and parked in there parking lot for 4 tires and asked they put the best one from mine on spare that they did not do ! I also got a alignment, and fuel filter. When they called me at 4.20 to say my car was done . When I arrived my car was parked up the road on the main road. It has scratches and a dent on drivers side now that was not there this Morning!
