I looked at the BigO web site and found tires that I wanted and according to the site, was on sale with instant savings. However, I couldn't purchase on the site instead it indicated to call for pricing as each store is independently owned. I went there and found that the tires on sale were only ones that were available immediately. They have a proprietary web site for stores only and no tires were available at the warehouse. So how is consumer suppose to know what is available? The stores quote was $20 more per tires than the normal web price! When I received my quote, it was nearly $400 more than if it was available at the web price, not including the supposed 'instant savings'. Plus they added a wheel alignment, without my request. I picked up an L wrench on 80, changed to my spare and came right here. I was acknowledged by the employee upon entering even tough he was on the phone with another customer. Formally greated and given assistance in less than 60 seconds after the first acknowledgment. The employee was concerned about my time and let me know there were four customers in front of me. When my wait was just shy of one hour and fifteen minutes my tire had been repaired and my car was ready to go. I was impressed and thankful for the timely service, the employees getting me in without an appointment and an employee carrying my purse and diaper bag to my car so I could carry my sleeping two year old. I love Big-O tires in Pinole. I dropped in on a Friday afternoon and Julie helped me pick out a new pair of tires. The ones I wanted weren't in stock but would be ready on Monday. The store called me Monday morning to let me know the tires had arrived. The only reason I am giving four stars rather than five is because it took a little longer than I expected to get the tires put on. However I arrived on Monday in the middle of lunch hour so a little wait is to be expected. The staff was pleasant and efficient. The trip to Pinole was worth it. UPDATE: Developed a slow leak in one of my tires, seven months after I bought them. Popped into Big-O and they promptly fixed it - for FREE and with a smile. read more

Got new tires on a promo (Sumu). BigOTires were the cheapeast in the area. Was able to call and get a quote over the phone. The guy over the phone was helpful. When I came to drop my car off the guy at the front didn't speak. I waited for about a minute and he said he could help me. Do not remember his name. But I do remember Don came in after and greeted the customer who walked in after me. Don also helped me when I picked up my car. I was looking for a simple tire rotation service. I always call places to check price before I go in for any services. Other places called way over price (can't shake the feeling that because I was a woman). This place not only told me a fair price on the phone, after inspection, they found out that I did not need tire rotation (of course, free of charge). I just appreciate their honesty. I called the day before to see if I can get all my tires replaced. I spoke with Gary and he did an excellent job listening to my requests and accommodated for a last minute, Saturday appointment. I received a follow up call in the morning and when I came in they gave me a recommendation on a much better set of Continental tires for my Mercedes Benz E-class. I had mentioned that my previous tires were slipping so they considered all that in their recommendation. I drove my car home this afternoon under wet conditions and no slipping. I just bought a used car that had tires of different sizes, so a trip to Big-O was necessary. I don't know too much about cars and tires (bikes are more my thing) but what I do know is customer service. Here's a list of pros and cons: Pros: - Clean facilities - Complimentary coffee and donuts - Waiting area with TV on CNN - Comfortable place to wait for the alignment (takes about an hour, hour and a half). I got to comfortably read and take notes on Guns, Germs and Steel. - Rapport the employees have with each other and customers - AAA discount Cons: - I received a lower quote on the phone earlier that morning - I'm glad I researched tire prices beforehand bc this allowed me to take about $50 off the final price. So... it's a trade-off. It helps to be informed about what you want and what you need. Again, I only have rudimentary knowledge of cars and tires, so the insecurity of not knowing + not wanting to get fleeced probably had something to do with my perception and attitude. read more

Updated review! So I have filed with the BAR. And the BAR has came to the conclusion that my hub was not put on crooked like big O says. And my Lugnuts were NOT stripped prior. They analyze all the parts and the stripped damage was caused by big O. (Soooo... I was right!) I sent over my receipts to the BAR. They finally paid me back for the damages... after about 6 months! This review is for tire service. My gal hit a nail and had a flat in the late afternoon. After I got home from work, I took a look at it, filled the tire and we were off to Big O in hopes we made it before they closed. When we got there, it was about 20 min before closing. I went with the Big O employee (I can't remember his name, but he was great!) to show him the nail and assess the other tires. After looking them over, it was decided that we would just replace them all. I was ready to leave the keys and pick up the car the next day. He told us to forget that. Come back in 45 min and you'll be good to go. 45 min later and we were riding home on a brand new set. This was with us bringing the car in right before closing with no appointment. There was also a special going on that we were unaware of, but we got that deal too. I am very happy that we have a place like Big O close to home. Every time we have gone in for service, we have been treated fairly by a friendly staff. I'm sorry to see that not everyone has had the same experiences that we have had, but I want to thank all of the staff at Big O in Pinole for taking care of us every time we have needed you. I've been coming here for years now. I always come to this address to get my car fixed up. They're affordable, and the location is near mine, which is great. I gave them my car and almost instantly went to work on it, to my surprise. Never had any issues with the employees or time issues. Very professional and polite. This tire store is a waist of time. It is in need of some serious management help. It's the tail wagging the dog show. The wait time for service is outrageous. I made an appointment and showed up on time. An hour and a half later they still have not touched my van. I tried to get the District managers number and filed a complaint but, Lilla Vallis, the store manage refused. The service use to be good until they fired all the men. Someone helped me right away to choose the tires I needed and could afford, had my car on the racks and I was out the door in less than half an hour from the time I walked in. Fastest, friendliest service I have ever had. After I learned that I could have got a $20 discount being a AAA member I called them back and ask if I could still get the discount. Called over for a quote on a tire due to a leak from a nail that was not repairable. Spoke to someone who was able to pull up my information since I had purchased a tire from them a couple of months ago. He quoted me a price of $209 and tells me he can order the tire and have it in the next day. I show up a few minutes later to drop off my car so they can work on it the next day while I am at work. The service rep that helped me wasn't the same person I spoke to on the phone. I tell him I called earlier about my tire. He goes out and inspects the car and comes back and runs all the information through the computer. He doesn't seem very friendly or personable at all. After entering my information, he then says "it's going to be $380 dollars for the tire!" WAIT WHAT?!?? I tell him when I spoke to the person on the phone he quoted me a price of $209 and that he was able to print my old invoice from the last time I purchased a tire from their store. He then states "that was probably the price without tire protection, the price without tire protection for this one would be 303." And just stares at me waiting for my decision. He doesn't even try and find the person who I spoke to on the phone or even tries to pull up my old invoice to see why it is so much. At this point, I don't even want to bother since the customer service wasn't there and it seemed like he didn't want to help me. I tell him "it's ok I'll just go somewhere else" and he says "ok". I ended up going across the street to NFS Tires and Wheels, where I got way better service and a great deal. I actually had to replace both rear tires because both had nails in them. And ended up only way less than the price Big o Tires quoted me for 2 TIRES! I'm giving a 2 stars because I received a call from Gerald today and he said that my tire was in the store now. I asked my gf to take my car in to have a tire patch up bc there was a nail in it. They tried to take advantage of her and told her that the tire was not patchable and tried to sell her a new pair of tires for some bs price. I had to yelp another tire shop on that weekend and took my car down to Cortez Tires and Auto Repair, I told them the scam that Big O Tires was running and they laugh and told me that they'll patch it up for $20 dollars. Big O Tires tried to said that the nail was way far towards the border... dude, the nail was right in the middle of the tire. Gtfoh. Ivan, James and Jeff are very kind and professional, as so with the other Big O staff at the front desk. A friendly smile and weclome..is all ways appreciated. The crew in the garage are knowledgeable and skilled mechanics. I have been making repairs and aftermarket upgrades on my 2006 maxima and I 'm very satisfied with Big O 's quality of work. They treat all their customers with respect. The waiting room has tv, wi-fi, coffee and usually donuts. The front desk keeps me inform and makes recommendations from the mechanics perspective on any other potential repairs. My rice rockett is a joy to drive...thanks to them. I have read some of the negative reveiws and disagree... yes..sometimes i have to wait, but then Thats life. The world doesn't revolve @ me.. so i bring my car in on a midweek day early... anyone who only checks their oil once in 6 months deserves to find out they have no oil. I have a new engine, drive alot and check all my car's fluids every Sunday ! But then... I understand auto mechanics, physics and most of all appreciate Pinole's Big O's teamwork. . read more

If you drive a manual, avoid this place. I went to get an alignment, and apparently the tech that went to put my car on the alignment rack roasted my clutch - I could hear and see it on my dashcam that I reviewed when I got home. The guy kept stalling my car. Maybe instead if you cant drive stick, get someone else to do the job. I get my car back and you could smell the clutch burning. The staff denied any wrongdoing and played it off like it could be the brakes. Really disappointed. read more

What a Nightmare !!! Like the guy said ' on A review ' about their ' Berkeley Store ' ....' Should be A Big No ' !!!!!! Too bad we Didn't check their " Yelp Rating of 2.5 Stars before ordering a Repair at this Particular Location !!!! Daylight Robbers !!! Last Dec. a friend of mine went in for an ' Oil Change via Groupon ' .... Oil Change was done ' ok ' - I suppose. Car was an ' 03 Civic w/260k miles on the clock. Had had ' Intermittent Overheating Issues over previous 6 - 8 months. Radiator had been ' flushed 'n filled ' twice by another Mechanic + thermostat changed. Yet another mechanic had replaced a the thermostat once. Both had said " Radiator is Fine - Not Damaged ". Early last December when Smog was due - Car was brought to a shop in El Cerrito. Loose battery cable was fixed. Mechanic there at J & J Auto had ' clearly stated ' ...' high mileage + small engine ' - typically ' blown head gasket ' .... thus not worth messing with issue. ( Honest ). Firestone E Cerrito had ' same diagnosis ' via telephone. As had Good Year - Albany n few others via telephone. This particular ' Big ' O ' however seemed convinced " Engine was Still Healthy despite being driven overheating. We had " Clearly Informed " Jeremy at the Counter about this. I had ' personally ' spent ample time via telephone ( as it was a buddy's car ) discussing the issue with Jeremy. Requested he ' make sure ' the shop checks ' Engine Compression ' """ FIRST """ before ordering ' A New Radiator, Thermostat & Temperature Sensor ' as suggested for $ 1100. At this point - No ' available ' tests were offered for ' blown head gasket ' - despite requests. However - later - after ' New Radiator RIPOFF Sale; They suddenly had a ' test for Blown Head Gasket ' !!! A ten year old coulda ' Caught them In The Act ' !!!! If they're ' tryin' to cheat a Customer; At least be ' smart ' about it !!! We are ' All Aware " Bonuses & More " are based on Sales Volumes ' ....at chain Stores .... He didn't ' seem too ' Savvy on the Relationship of Engine Compression ' to ' Blown Head Gasket ' ( Red Flag !!!). However - he convinced us to buy the Radiator, Thermostat & Tempr. A Lady Manager named Lila who states 're- Head Gasket test ' etc. Who even ' offered to buy the car off customer for $ 500 ( how legal ??? Is that ???? ) .....if he Didn't choose to buy a ' New Engine for $ 3500 from Big'O Pinole...!!!! SEEMS LIKE A " PATENTLY CLEAR CASE OF UPSELL from a Chain Store " ..... Too bad ! The customer is ' New to Car Repairs & A Refugee who got duped in BROAD DAYLIGHT ' ....over X'mas.... Not to mention ' the all too familiar story of " Multiple Oil Leaks ....we're putting in Dye..." Bring it back in few days ( interestingly we got mixed responses from various counter persons...on length of driving period to check oil leak locations) . Oil had been changed few times prior - no other ' Vendor ' mentioned this nor did ' Big ' O ' during the Oil Change just 2-3 days prior !!! Wow... Scott is one moody dude! Talk about not being happy with his job. Brought the car in to get a couple of things checked out like a flat tire and all he said is "it'll be a couple of hours." Then he just stood there for about 5 seconds and stared at me. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. So I said "should I just sit here for a couple of hours because you are assuming that I somehow drove two cars here and will just jump in the other one and be on my way." I understand that things take time, but this guy's attitude was HORRIBLE. I've been to the West Berkeley Big O and never have they treated me like this. The moment you enter this place you get a creepy feeling that you are talking to a scammer. I wanted new tires, the price I had already checked on their website and Gary gives a price $5 higher and when I tell him he reduces the price. Waiting there, you can hear them try their best to oversell and try to sqeeze as much as they can out of every customer that walks in. And after spending several hours, they will tell you that there is a leak in several spots and you cannot see it as it is all internal and you need to change the pan and a new gasket. I came to this shop for about 10 years. Not because they are good. But it was more of a habit/comfort thing. You can be the first in line when they open, but because of their incompetence, your car won't be ready for several hours. When you walk out of here, you feel like an infants who had just been scolded and taught about basic mechanics. Just straight up ignorant and border like demeaning. Buying tires? Good luck! Second time going here for an oil change. Had to wait 3 hours on my first visit, second visit took 2 hours. So waiting time is about 2-3 hours. Other places I went to usually takes about an hour or less for an oil change. Their quality of work seems to be poor. They set my tire pressure to 25 instead of 36 so I had to fix that myself (TPMS warning lights came on). They really don't do a good inspection. read more

Called this afternoon about a slow leak in my tire & was told to come on in, stopped by only to be told the tire guy was on lunch and to come back in about an hour & forty five minutes. So I head back home, come back and was told they were closing in 40 minutes and had two cars ahead of mine, but Gary told me since I was told to come back he'd help me out. What happened to this place? After being a satisfied repeat customer for over 15 years for wheel work, brakes, and tires, I will not be returning. Called them to get an estimate for an alignment (needed after a hit-and-run driver smashed into me) and had the insurance company cut the check for the exact amount that Big O quoted me. Showed up with my car and the check from the insurance company, and they refused to accept the check because. . . wait for it. . . it had the incorrect *store number* on it. Everything else was correct, down to the zip code; but they told me I'd have to get the insurance company to re-issue the check and put the correct store # on it. So much for taking time off work to drop off my car. The dull personalities and lack of attempt at customer service just added insult to the injury. Buh-bye.
