I chose this spot during the convention I was attending as they had a nice shaded seating area, and while I'm trying to mostly eat low-carb had some excellent menu options that fit that objective. It remained constantly busy and they had two people taking orders. They lined up a row of umbrellas so that you could stand in the shade while you waited to place your order. The menu wasn't extensive, but I sure enjoyed the grouper and shrimp I ate! They give you a text to let you know your food is ready and then there's lots of nice shaded areas and table to eat at. This was a much better line and options than I had in the convention center the day prior...! The only detractors were the occasional cigar and cigarette smoke that would waft over while I was eating. Not the restaurant's fault. It is what it is.

Yaaa I'm not gonna review y'all too harshly. Your fish is just too fishy tasting and that's the problem with ordering fish, ya never know how it's gonna taste. My mother thought hers was fine but we all thought it was just too fishy. The garlic fries also not for me. Great service and big open space with a beautiful view by the dock. Just not for me. Keep it up though Big Ray!

If you are at the convention center for a kid event take a moment and enjoy the view and maybe a cold beverage. There is a pretty good food menu. It does feature mostly fried items but hey they have coleslaw. The fish reuben was good, dad liked the Cuban, the tenders were meaty, and fries were hot. Grab a cocktail from the bar, beers are $8 for a can and they have limited drafts. But...u can walk with it and take a walk on the river. Enjoy the weather and the view and take a break from whatever kid event you are at.

Food was better than expected! Had the conch fritters, shrimp burger, and classic cheese burger and all were delicious. I wasn't expecting too much considering the location but I was pleasantly surprised. Great food and beautiful view of the water.

I recommend this mostly based on the garlic fries. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish in my opinion was served hot but just lacked the magic. It may be because the garlic parmesan with the fries was too magical.

Fish dip was well seasoned and had plenty of crackers. Grouper sandwich was a huge portion of fish with decent blackening seasoning. Garlic parm fries were good as well. Counter service with self seating, food was ready pretty quick. Lots of shady spots and dog friendly. Overall a great casual spot with big portions!

This spot near the water was delicious. Friendly quick service. The view of the boats coming and going out was scenic and relaxing. Janis our order taker was delightful. Chef Q and chef Sam know what they are doing. The grouper sandwich was huge. It was moist and flavorful topped with a soft bun. The Sammy comes with garlic fries which were average. The grouper Caesar salad was just as delicious but without a bun. We also ordered the grouper nuggets with a sweet Thai chili sauce. Overall I'd definitely return to this spot.

Great for a quick informal lunch, lots of stuff on the sandwich so the fish is muddled. Fries were great, quick and scenic lunch spot on the water. Great window service, hard to complain for a fast food bite.

Good food. Stopped here in between meetings during a convention and had the blackened shrimp burger with onion rings. Was very good. Sauce for the onion rings was tasty and tangy. Wife had the Cuban and loved it.

Cute place to eat by the water. I haven't been to Tampa since 1996 and I don't think they had the Riverwalk back then. It was nice to walk around, although it got super hot since I am from the north. I am not used to the hot and sticky weather. Big Ray's is outdoor seating where you can buy food and nonalcoholic drinks. The place across the way is a bar where you can bring the food that you bought from Big Rays. I ordered the grouper nuggets with sweet Thai chili sauce. The chili sauce brings out the flavor of the grouper. It was just enough for me. I don't like eating heavy food when it's 90 degrees outside. They do have nice seating and it's clean overlooking the water.

Sweet-spicy dipping sauce for conch fritters and pineapple slaw that came with po'boy sandwich
    Alan G.

Trying to find a place nearby the Tampa Convention Center, we walked in the rain to nearly Big Ray's to grab lunch. If the weather didn't involve constant rain, the overall experience would have been better for sure since we had to scramble to find a dry space to eat. Ordering was straightforward and the person taking orders was friendly but getting our food from the window was on the slower side. I appreciated getting an electronic order tracker to know when our food was ready. The conch fritters were crispy on the outside but felt undercooked on the inside and the dipping sauce was overly sweet for our taste. The oyster po'boy was definitely better with reasonably plump oysters, but lacked enough seasoning and could have been fried longer to get the crunch. It was accompanied with a mayo-based sauce and served with a pineapple cabbage cole slaw that was crunchy and well seasoned. Big Ray's was fine for lunch in a pinch, but there are higher quality seafood places in Tampa for this price point.

Ok..... I'm a huge fan of grouper nuggets...but not these.... They were overcooked and lacked seasoning. So the reviews I read before making mine, were accurate. The onion rings were DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! Seasoned AND cooked to perfection. Some of the best I've ever had!!! I so wish I could take some home on the plane ride with me!! The shrimp were huge but sadly lacked flavor as well. It was first time trying conch fritters and I must say they were delicious!! There are no refills on drinks. You order at the window and retrieve your food yourself. As others have stated, the view is amazing!
