And I had the oyster po boy which was delicious and a lot of plump oysters. I was only able to eat half the sandwich. I wanted onion rings but they were out of them. The customer service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. This is a small establishment and the majority of the seating is outside, so be conscious of that. I chose this spot during the convention I was attending as they had a nice shaded seating area, and while I'm trying to mostly eat low-carb had some excellent menu options that fit that objective. It remained constantly busy and they had two people taking orders. They lined up a row of umbrellas so that you could stand in the shade while you waited to place your order. The menu wasn't extensive, but I sure enjoyed the grouper and shrimp I ate! They give you a text to let you know your food is ready and then there's lots of nice shaded areas and table to eat at. This was a much better line and options than I had in the convention center the day prior...! The only detractors were the occasional cigar and cigarette smoke that would waft over while I was eating. Not the restaurant's fault. It is what it is. read more

If you are at the convention center for a kid event take a moment and enjoy the view and maybe a cold beverage. There is a pretty good food menu. It does feature mostly fried items but hey they have coleslaw. The fish reuben was good, dad liked the Cuban, the tenders were meaty, and fries were hot. Grab a cocktail from the bar, beers are $8 for a can and they have limited drafts. But...u can walk with it and take a walk on the river. Cute place to eat by the water. I haven't been to Tampa since 1996 and I don't think they had the Riverwalk back then. It was nice to walk around, although it got super hot since I am from the north. I am not used to the hot and sticky weather. Big Ray's is outdoor seating where you can buy food and nonalcoholic drinks. The place across the way is a bar where you can bring the food that you bought from Big Rays. I ordered the grouper nuggets with sweet Thai chili sauce. The chili sauce brings out the flavor of the grouper. It was just enough for me. I don't like eating heavy food when it's 90 degrees outside. Trying to find a place nearby the Tampa Convention Center, we walked in the rain to nearly Big Ray's to grab lunch. If the weather didn't involve constant rain, the overall experience would have been better for sure since we had to scramble to find a dry space to eat. Ordering was straightforward and the person taking orders was friendly but getting our food from the window was on the slower side. I appreciated getting an electronic order tracker to know when our food was ready. The conch fritters were crispy on the outside but felt undercooked on the inside and the dipping sauce was overly sweet for our taste. The oyster po'boy was definitely better with reasonably plump oysters, but lacked enough seasoning and could have been fried longer to get the crunch. It was accompanied with a mayo-based sauce and served with a pineapple cabbage cole slaw that was crunchy and well seasoned. Big Ray's was fine for lunch in a pinch, but there are higher quality seafood places in Tampa for this price point. read more

Great food and beyond surprised at the experience! We came here for dinner with some out of town guests. This place is right on the water with great views which is why we took our guests here. I expected the food to be bad are at least below average just because they have the conscience of business from the location itself. However, the food was actually amazing! These people are extremely unprofessional and rude. we ordered over $200 in food that was subpar , needed sauces to make it more palatable. we went up to get sauces and were completely ignored when the third person went to get sauces they slammed the door in her face and were very very rude. they get your money ignore you and treat you like crap. terrible customer service. the large young man was so very rude i will never eat there again. had six people eating avg cost each was about 40 without drinks and the food wasn't great. read more

I had the grouper nuggets. Husband had the grouper sandwich. Kid had the grilled cheese. The grouper was fine, but bland. The sauce with the nuggets saved it! Really needed some seasoning or something. The grilled cheese looked amazing but the taste was off; kind of chemically tasting. However, the fries were really good! -Menu rules: you can't order a kids meal if the kid isn't present. I'd already sat down with our kid while Husband ordered and they didn't want to let us order a kids meal because she wasn't at the window at the time of ordering (just something to note). Great spot to eat and catch the vibes on the Riverwalk. I was told the blackened grouper sandwich was the best selling item on the menu, and I see why! Light flakey and wonderfully seasoned fish that could be eaten by itself. The sandwich kinda falls apart because of the bun which I didn't like, but didn't take away from the sandwich. Came here after a long river walk and ordered a grilled grouper sandwich with onion rings ($4 upcharge) and my husband got the shrimp burger. My grouper was really good but the sandwich was a mess, probably less messy if you order it fried, it was just a huge piece of fish and it wasn't the right shape for a sandwich. Taste was good though. My onion rings unfortunately were ice cold and greasy, and I'm really not a big stickler for super hot food--sadly these were inedible, even though the flavor was good and the breading still had a decent crunch. The shrimp burger was very tasty and the garlic parm fries were pretty good (maybe a little much on the garlic). Truly the star of the show was their tartar sauce--I don't know why more reviews don't mention it. It's SO GOOD.
