Started with the shrimp cocktail. You can see they were overflowing shrimp! We prefer ours mild with no onion or cilantro, and they don't mind making them that way for us. After the shrimp cocktail I enjoyed the 8 pc fried oysters, which comes with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw is creamy and a little sweet. The fries are steak fries and very good. The raspberry frozen margarita was refreshing. You order at the counter and then they call your name when your order is ready and you go pick it up. When I was next to place the order, my Mom went to go find a table for us. She sat down as I was ordering our food at the counter. Emerging from the year of COVID, we returned to Big Shucks for a special occasion today, and it's lost a good chunk of its charm for me since my last visit a year and a half or so ago: - We arrived about 5:30 tonight, and what was a packed house 18 months ago was 12-15 people total tonight. - Happy hour prices for a dozen raw oysters have doubled from $7.50 18 months ago to $15 now ($5 off of the regular price of $20.) This may be a factor in the reduced number of customers. It is a large disincentive for me to go back any time soon, as well. Big Shucks is still a good place for happy hour drinks and snacks, but it has lost its status of greatness for me. I hope they go back to pre-COVID pricing sometime soon. read more

Here we are at Big Shucks- not looking ahead at the menu, one dreams of a plethora of oysters all ready to be shucked and slurped down! Queue entrance scene-- :: Friendly young man greets us and offers us instruction on just how things go around those parts. You order at the counter, have a seat and then pay (honor system) on the way out. :: Gander at the menu, searching for the extensive list of oysters and come up without finding any. If you look really closely at the "Starters" you'll find oysters- Galveston to Louisiana, half dozen or dozen. No choosing, no selecting, just 6 or 12.... so of course I chose 12! We ordered the "House Speciality" shrimp cocktail a draft Pacifico, Mango Margarita and another dozen oysters. Everything but the shrimp cocktail was on the Happy Hour menu, so get there between 3:30 and 6:30!!! We had a seat, collected about 8 different hot sauces and waited, Not long mind you for our order. Tables all have your standard saltines and hot sauces so don't miss out on making your own flavor of hot sauce. Enter food :: oysters were good though no one could tell me where they were from. There is a bar that has oyster accompanying goodies like horseradish, lemons, Ketchup, etc. (So don't miss that!) The Shrimp Cocktail was quite good and an ounce and a half of vodka away from a great Bloody Mary!!! The avocado in it was so fresh and it balanced the acidity of the tomato Base. Exit Drinks :: Pacifico was perfecto- Iced cold and given a fresh lime. The Mango margarita was -eh- machine made house frozen marg topped with mango "flavor" mix.
