We were pretty hyped for this place, but our meal turned out to be pretty average Chinese food. The Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings were probably the best thing we ordered. I also liked the Roasted Crispy Pork Belly but my wife didn't care for it. The Spare Rib Hong Kong Style was particularly awful as most of the plate was literally breaded bones. I understand how one or two pieces of bone could end up in there, but it was ridiculous how little actual meat there was on that plate. We were back in Riverside because sister and niece were touring potential universities. While niece and sister were given vouchers to have lunch in the cafeteria, we wanted to order lunch from Big Sky. We had to wait until the restaurant opened to call in 2 orders of shrimp dumplings, 2 orders of pork and shrimp dumplings, 2 orders of Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, 1 crispy pork belly rice plate, 1 chicken lo mein, and 1 yang chow fried rice. My niece's favorite dim sum is steamed custard buns. I had forgotten to add it to the phone order so I called back. "Uncle" Eddy told me that it was no problem to add it and guessed correctly which phone order was mine. It would take about half an hour to prepare the large order. When we got to the restaurant, Jessica was only waiting on the crispy pork belly rice plate from the kitchen. It took another 10 minutes. Even though my sister and niece had eaten at the university's cafeteria when they saw our lunch spread, they had to eat a little. My niece wanted the little pig bun. She thought they were cute and only needed a dining napkin. My sister hadn't had dim sum in a while and asked for a paper plate so that she could have one of each dumpling along with some of the Chinese broccoli. After touring UCR, we called in our dinner order: steamed pork patty with black bean fish (requested by husband night before knowing that we would be getting food from Big Sky Bistro), braised eggplant with garlic sauce, chicken fried noodle, and beef broccoli. Sister and niece were staying at a hotel in Anaheim. She texted me after we dropped them off that the food was good. A super quiet and casual place to have some yummy dim sum, lunch, or dinner with your family and friends. Their menu is very extensive, my friends and I definitely over ordered this last time we visited. For our starter we ordered the fried garlic wings and it's not pictured because it was so hot and delicious when it came out that we wasted no time. It's always a must for me when hot and sour soup is on the menu, so we put in an order of that along with the Peking duck, honey walnut shrimp, bbq pork buns, pork and shrimp shumai, seafood pan-fried noodles, and orange chicken (for my friend's kiddos & not pictured). Every dish hit their marks with the hot and sour soup being just spicy enough, and since I like mine a little more sour I add some of the vinegar available at the table. The Peking duck was sliced up nicely and served up with the most soft and fluffy baos, that goes to say that their pork bbq buns were just as fluffy and with great flavor. It was my friend's first time trying dim sum and she loved their pork and shrimp shumai! One of my must- orders at a Chinese restaurant is the honey walnut prawns or shrimp and this one was good, but the batter could definitely go lighter to be less dense, so that it could be more on the crunchy side. For dim sum in Riverside, I would say that it's not that bad. Unfortunately it's not a traditional dim sum spot with different varieties of dishes with unusual entrees and the steamed carts floating around. I would say it's decent. We got shrimp and pork shu mai. They were huge pieces! We were going to get the har gow but these dumplings seemed to have fit one or two whole shrimp into one. No need! lol Another dish we got was the juicy pork dumplings. They were okay, a bit dried out. Barely any soup in them. I actually will give them a thumbs up for their shrimp rice rolls. They tasted as if they were made in house. Not thick and slimy, but thin and chewy. Lastly, beef noodles soup was alright. Nothing special. The noodles seemed to be clumped up, and it was hard to split into small bowls. The beef chunks were tender, but some had a lot of fat attached to it. Went for early dinner with my sister and was going too bring leftover's home for my kids (young adults). The restaurant was quiet at first but got busy as the night progressed. Got the chicken soft noodle, bbq buns, soup dumplings, pork and shrimp siu mei, orange chicken, and egg roll. Very delicious! Sui Mei was nice size and quite filling, tasted even better as it sat. Soup dumplings were so good lots of filling not a lot of soup but I'm not complaining! Actually everything was well seasoned, hot, and good. Not only is the food delicious, the location is safe, parking lot is convenient with multiple parking spaces, it's clean and all of our favorite Chinese Food dishes are here! I highly recommend the Pan Fried Chow Mein Beef with Gravy Sauce and Beef Fried Rice. They give you a large amount and they have large pieces of meats, unlike other Chinese restaurants. You can call in your order and you can make reservations ahead of time. We were all greeted with the friendliest and fast service. They catered to all of us. This is also a kid friendly place where they are very hospitable and gave a free hot bowl of tapioca and fortune cookies! We will definitely be coming back! They are not too far from San Bernardino. There used to be one called Busy Cafe, which closed down. When Big Sky Bistro opened, my friend and I decided to come out and try their food. I was bummed to had mediocre dim sum. My favorite here was the Gailan (Chinese Broccoli). I also liked the Seaweed Salad. Everything else lacked in flavor or had way too much salt. Service was just okay. Peking Duck (half) is excellent, my first time trying it. Also Roast Duck comes out good with nice seasoning and an orange dipping sauce. Difference between the two is that Peking duck is prepared with a spice blend that does not have the familiar 5 Spice kind of taste with anise, clove, ginger ect. Plastic piece broken off of something was battered with the squid. Squid barely has any flavor but it did come spicy like I asked. Congee had a very bad quality century egg, I wouldn't even consider it a century egg based on how rubbery and little flavor came with it. Flavor of the congee was mainly msg and there was half a chunk of fatty pork from a singular rib. Chinese donut (you tiao) is a day old so it's super hard and oily. HK Lemon Iced Tea is made from HK tea bags and white sugar. It comes with 2 lemon slices in a giant to go soup container and was worth its price - no lemon flavor though. The mini dim sum ribs were missing the fermented black beans that are crucial to this dish, leaving it very sweet and oily. Went to this place yesterday because I wanted some dim sum with my family. Checked the location and time so we don't go when they are closed. Got there and a man said they are closed for maintenance around 1pm. So confused. Made sure I checked again and they said it was open on maps. So we just left. Sometimes I'll have a new/different waiter than my normal that'll stare you down a little too hard with no facial expression and give you bad service, but the other normal waiters are pretty great. Don't let the name fool you, Big Sky Bistro is as authentic as it gets. We started with Pork and Shrimp Dimsum and Har Gau. They were steamed to perfection. The filling was really tasty and the portion size was perfect. The outer dough covering was not too thick, which is an added bonus. For mains, we ordered the Peking Duck, Vermicelli Noodles and Pork with Jalapenos. The Peking duck was accompanied with Hoisin sauce, fluffy buns and julienned cabbage. The duck itself was cooked very well, with the crispy outer skin and the mouth melting meat. The combination of bun, hoisin sauce and the duck was really good. The Vegetable Vermicelli noodles were good and served as a good compliment to the Spicy pork dish. The portion sizes on the mains are huge, so you might want to order accordingly. We lived in Orange County for over 20 years which has their share of authentic Chinese restaurants so when we moved to Riverside County two years ago we were never really satisfied, because most of them Chinese American cuisine which is not authentic. My wife and I go there specifically for the dim sum so I can't speak on the entire restaurant. The dim sum menu is VERY small, but the selection is TASTY but pricey. Also, I do need to mention in particular that their dumplings are pretty large in size; it almost makes up for the pricing. We're IE transplants from OC so the availability of dim sum out here compared to what we're used to is nearly non existent. This place suffices and fulfills our cravings. read more

Anywho, I've only gone here for dim sum, so this review will strictly be that. It's decent, the xiao my is actually pretty good but the fun rolls....not so much. The service here is terrible, as you would expect for most dim sum restaurants. There is no organization among the staff and when you approach one of them that do not speak English they tend to get anxious and nervous. There is a decent size parking lot with other businesses slowly popping up, Ding Tea around the corner. If you want quality dim sum with everything on the menu, I'd pass on Big Skyy and make the drive to San Gabriel or LA. But if I want something without being in traffic and need a quick fix, Big Skyy is my go to. Maybe I'll try their regular menu some time. read more
