a burger and fries on a tray

Bill Gray's is a true local place. I always come back every time I'm visiting Rochester. I love their fries and always get them with gravy. It always hits the spot. And I get a kiddie vanilla ice cream. It wasn't the best consistency when I got it, but it still hit the spot. A cheeseburger meal, side of fries, and tiny ice cream were about $25. I guess it doesn't break the bank, but it's more expensive than I remembered. :/

If you clean the grill after a whole day of burger-making, then you will see "Bill Gray's Grease." This store, however, is "Bill Grays in Greece." There's a key difference. I was here very recently, probably 6 weeks ago, getting Abbott's custard and some snacks from Bill Grays. They have cheap burgers, white hots, dogs, and garbage plates as well as other kinds of sandwiches. Their food is basically the same at all locations. However the service and decor and atmosphere is not. I'm not really a fan of this Bill Gray's. It takes forever to get served not just because it's busy but because employees don't have a good system of serving the outside crowd and the inside alike. They have some attitude, as well. And dirty tables with not too many outlets in-store. Plus they keep their AC a little low for my tastes so it can be a little humid inside. I prefer the Bill Grays way out on Culver and the best one is down in Henrietta. If you do eat here, though, I recommend the "world's greatest cheeseburger." And even moreso, the Abbott's custard, although again, it's not my fave location for that.

Wish they had a handicap button on the door. every time I come with my grandma I am stuck outside until someone helps me in. I have written to the Bill grays website but have never received an answer. Even if you're not going to change it at least let me know I have been heard. The food is so so and expensive if you don't have a coupon. Not really a fan, but the workers are super nice.

The food here isn't bad. Simple, basic burgers at decent prices. However service typically leaves much to be desired. The counter is staffed primarily by what seem to be HS students. As one can imagine, they seem more interested in socializing amongst themselves than doing their jobs. Today, i put my order in with a young man who looked positively angry to be there. Fortunately, when i picked up my order, i was served by a pleasant young lady who actually seemed interested. Also, always always check your order before leaving. i cannot tell you how many times i've arrived home to find the order wrong in one way or another. i'd seldom patronize this business if my wife didn't like their food, and they're conveniently close to home.

This location doesn't compare to the Gates one. Burgers seem dry and overlooked. The staff isn't very friendly either.

All I will say, is that it was worth it. The place and the menu are pretty cool/chill. Plenty of seating with firepit style table tops, extremely dog friendly, self serve water, and food/drink selections were great too. The waitress was very sweet, but was obviously overworked and busy too. She apologized and gave us free drink tokens and comped us a side order of garlic fries after they ran out of side salads. None of that was her fault, but it shows how the employees and establishment care about their valued costumers. We had the veggie focaccia, garlic fries, and buffalo parm wings (they were huge). No complaints on the quality of food or the portion size since we had more than enough to take stuff home. We will definitely come back. I live only a few minutes away by foot! I don't know why I never came here sooner! Highly recommend

My fave hands down was the Tropical Crushed Fruited NEIPA. What a special beer! But definitely take advantage of the smaller pour sizes and have a few different types. The food was great but the standout item was the Warm Cookie & Ice Cream. I'm going to be dreaming about this until I can return!

Anyway.... you know I overshare. Furthermore, I've tried a few of the restaurants up here but I had a GREAT experience at the Great American Diner and was inspired to leave a review!! My lovely boyfriend suggested we try this place out. He said it used to be Wimpy's and it was new to him as well. Turns out that was a great decision. Walking in, all of the staff had a great attitude- everyone was in a good mood. We were seated quickly in one of the cozy booths, despite it being pretty busy. This place reminds me of the diners I used to enjoy back home. Assorted jams on the table and condiments for our use, very convenient! For seating, there is also a bar and regular tables. There are TVs that were playing game shows. The menu is quite expansive, you can get all sorts of breakfast items (omlettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, wraps/sandwiches, platters) as well as plenty of lunch options (sandwiches, burgers, wraps, plates like roast turkey, country fried steak, garbage plates). There are even gluten-free and vegan options. I saw gluten free bread and vegan / gluten free pancakes. I decided on something simple.. a chicken salad sandwich on a hard roll with lettuce and onion. I got tater tots and mac salad with it. The bread was soft, topped with a hearty portion of the chicken salad. My tots were so crispy and delicious, and the mac salad was delightful!! Not many places get the mac salad right but I really enjoyed it! My boo got a breakfast garbage plates.. mind blown lolz!! It had home fried, sausage links, over easy eggs, cheese, and of course topped with meat sauce. You can decide if you want sausage or bacon, how you want your eggs cooked, and what kind of toast you want (bagel, biscuit, english muffin, wheat or white toast). He pretty much cleared his plate. He really liked it. I definitely want to come back here and try their other items, maybe some of their breakfast options this time. Oh, and their milkshakes... gahhh I really wanted one but I had to go into work and was worried I would have a tummy ache lol. It would have to be a day I'm willing to risk it (yes I'm lactose intolerant but sometimes it's worth it). Anyway... we will be back !!

It's a little Neighborhood Place you can come alone and feel welcome and safe. It's a place where if you come to eat good bar food, you're in the right place. It's a place that if you come to meet new people and enjoy st that kind of a bar. It also has a patio, and if you are or know native Rochesterians, we LOVE dining al fresco, since we only get like 10 days of sun a year (okay, actually it's 165 , but we're not exactly overrun with sun). The first time here, I install myself on a bar stool and immediately greeted by and waited on by Todd (one of the owners). I asked for an Ice Pic, which no bartender in Rochester has ever even heard of. So I figured it must be a Pittsburgh thing. He made it, and immediately offered to make me something else if I didn't like it. It was a little heavy on the lemon (pucker worthy). He happily subbed a White Claw. They have black cherry and mango. I had one of each, and preferred the mango. It's served in a can, so I asked for a glass of ice. Very refreshing. Anyone that knows me, knows I'm a wing girl through and through. I ordered wings, half medium buff and half garlic parm. Both were very good and mostly drums. Todd was attentive, fun and friendly. Very chill dude. The customers, obviously locals, were very friendly. The second time I was here, Ashley, the bartender, suggested a Deep Eddy. Refreshingly alcoholic. I had fried mushrooms. They come in a little metal bucket; at least 10 to 12 tender, plump, perfectly fried mushrooms. There was a tiny bit of water inside, which is to be expected and it didn't at all ruin the mushrooms. They're served with blue cheese. Honestly, they were so good, they didn't need dressing. I have two suggestions. One, they provide some sort of shade for the patio. The tables and chairs, which are metal, are in the sun (a couple tables have umbrellas). I think a big canopy over the patio would do the trick. Second, use a bit more light. It's a but dark. I fiddled with all the settings on my camera, and still could not get decent interior shots. I think it's much better with the blinds open, but at night...hmmm. To be fair, I've never been here past 7 p.m. I know...atmosphere. And I'm a total cornball when it comes to (love and) romance. But this isn't designed for that. It's a neighborhood bar with good food, friendly folk and a chill, fun vibe. And you can't improve that.

When I heard Forest Hill had changed ownership and was now simply called The Hill, I'll admit I was worried. So many great restaurants lose what made them special after a change like that. I'm happy to say those worries were completely unfounded. The Hill is still everything I've loved for decades. In fact, I can confidently say they still have the best Chicken French in Rochester. This week I've made it my mission to revisit some of Rochester's well-known Chicken French spots while I'm in town. I've eaten at Brook House, Mr. Dominic's, and Pino's Deli, and while they were all good, nothing came close to The Hill. The Chicken French here is simply outstanding--perfectly cooked, consistently delicious, and exactly the flavor I've been coming back for all these years. One thing I've learned after 25 years of traveling for business and eating in restaurants all over the country is to appreciate the art of timing a meal. It's much harder than most people realize. Getting appetizers, entrées, and drinks to the table at just the right pace without making guests feel rushed or forgotten is the mark of a truly professional restaurant. The Hill has this mastered. Every course arrived at exactly the right time, the pacing was flawless, and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely top-notch. It's wonderful to see the new owners preserving what has made this restaurant a Rochester favorite for generations. Thank you for keeping this tradition alive. I'll continue making The Hill a must-visit every time I'm back home.
