This is my new go-to place! After complaining to customer service online over a small return, I sent an email noting my frustration. Hi. Unfortunately I am giving up on this store. I want to avoid the big box stores but Bill's makes it too hard. The cashiers are condescending. The prices are high. The final straw is the rewards program. My mailbox is inundated with mostly useless coupons. They are gimmicks to get me to come into the store only to be told they can't be used because an item is "on sale". Items seem to be always on some small sale which makes the coupon useless. I have tried and tried to use them and I finally give up. No more Bill's Ace. Time to move on. read more

Well I usually love this place but today not so much. We needed help with some magnetic screw drivers that were locked up. We asked for some help and waited. I went to another aisle and asked an employee (older lady with gray hair) with a clip board that we needed help and she says it's on its way... so we waited with a few other people needing help. Finally an employee walks over and helps 2 other people then us and she asks the lady with the clip board, I need help and she responds I'm helping a customer. When we finally get help, we do our other shopping. I pass by this lady with the clip board, I don't know her name because didn't want to get closer than 6'.... I hear her tell another employee or maybe manager, do we really need to deal with these idiots today. Just saying. I'm not impressed with that level of bad customer service. Can you run to the store struggling to find a particular stainless steel bolts for my piece of hardware that was to be mounted on my boat. Had already been to Home Depot and Lowe's without any luck. A gentleman by the name of Ken, asked if he could be at assistance. No I was he very knowledgeable about the different nuts and bolts and their thread patterns but he also figured out that the piece of hardware I had brought in was not even threaded. He then proceeded to tap the hole hole out with new thread and found me the correct stainless steel bolt. This is exactly the reason I go to this Ace Hardware! Tonight my cousin and I went to Ace. My cousin has a medical condition that make wearing a mask over his nose hard to breath but his mouth is always covered I had my mask on the whole time in Ace. A young female employee & a young male employee standing in the isle we went she told cousin he needs to wear his mask he went to another isle while I was llookfor an item I heard her announce that a customer did not have his mask on. Like I said it was covering his mouth whole time, I walked over to them & said excuses me do you have this item, they both turned there back on & I said again can I ask a question they both would not speak to me, so I went to another isle & heard her announce what I was on isl3 6?! So went to another isle & they both followed me & again announce the isle I was on so at that point I asked another employee & asked for the manager, being rude I waved to the 2 & said please let them know I'm on isle #. The asst. Manager come over & told my problem & that I told him the employee he has a medical issue & said that didn't matter it's the law. The manager said well we work here & have to wear a mask for 8hrs, & medical conditions does not excuse him. He did tell me to into his & read it myself, I told him he was wrong medical conditions he said if he's to wear so does he. I walked away. I saw him talk to that female so I walked to them & heard him ask if she refused to me help & I said yeah did you do that & she cause of no mask I pointed to my mask & is on the whole & on top of all that you both followed me around when I the one with the mask on! So to the owner of Bill's Ace our families who have always shopped your store before any other store, well for now on we will be shopping the new OSH or Lowe's or even Home Depot or Amazon thanks to those 2 employees from the closed down Pleasant Hills store. I love that there is no shortage of knowledgeable employees to help me find the one-off doodad I'm looking for, and can usually get in and out in under 15 if I can accurately describe exactly what I'm looking for. The customer service on the floor of the people on the floor is outstanding. I used to live an easy walking distance from here and frequented this location often, and probably the number of times that I walked in and wasn't asked within a reasonable time if I needed help was minimal. Yes, the prices are on many items higher than some stress-laden big box store, and you probably don't want to plan a large project around their offerings, but it definitely fits the bill (har, originally unintended, but I gotta let it go) for small projects, especially if you need help with getting what you need. It is large for an Ace, and they have aisles of obscurity as well (dog food?). Best of all, it's a locally owned business that gives back to the community in donations and support! The only reason I didn't give this store 5 stars is because the prices are normally higher than Home Depot and OSH. But, they are a smaller company and probably cannot afford to go too low on the prices, so I get it. But, my wallet doesn't get it. Anyway, the people that work here are great, especially Bryan. He is AWESOME! I bought a garden fountain from this store, brought it home and found it wasn't working. I came back to the store and Bryan went above and beyond ... he figured out what was wrong with the original pump, helped me find a new one, adjusted the new pump so I didn't have to do myself, and ended up giving me the new one for free. (I guess it's not really free because it was replacing the broken original one, but still ... it felt free.) When I got back home, I inserted the new pump and - hey - there's my garden fountain trickling water as it's supposed to. YES!!! My family & I recently moved back to the Bay Area from Florida, changing addresses for club cards & store programs has been a pain but here it was easy. The second time I came in the lady at the register remembered changing it for me & sure enough she found it! Not to mention that I am a pretty crafty person so I've come in looking for odd stuff. All the team members I have spoken to have been very helpful & give me tips on how to do things better. This is my hardware go-to store. The prices are a few cents higher but I also think of it being the saving of time & money driving to a big chain store where I have to hunt for help & get someone who doesn't work in the department. I've been coming here for years and actually spent several thousand dollars on a patio set here over 20 years ago. The lady who helped me is long retired, I'm sure as that was in the early-mid 90s. She was awesome! And over the years, most of the personnel have been good. No one is ever rude, but some more helpful than others, especially those with age being the most helpful. But tonight was such a disappointment. I had called to get some info in converting a CFL can light to an LED one, which is now possible, without retrofitting the entire fixture. But their selection was dismal and I guess there are so many different types of LEDs nowadays, it's not easy finding exactly what you want or need. After being transferred to the electrical department, I spoke with Don, an elderly gentleman, who I believe tried helping me before on a different issue. He at least tries to get what you need. After hearing what I wanted, he just said come on down and let's see if we can help...well, I guess that's what I'll need to do. When I want some expertise, I think of Ace..Bill's Ace. I went in and asked for help and a newer employee tried helping me. But, when it comes to CFL to LED conversion replacements, it doesn't see like many folks are very well trained. Basically, they didn't have what I needed and really were ill equipped to answer some technical questions I had. We even had a bulb that we saw online at Lowe's, but Ace didn't carry it. My brother was with me and finally said, "you really don't know much more than we do, do you?" While that was true, I did feel it was a rude comment to make and I was able to keep the clerk from walking away. After all, he was polite and did his best and it wasn't his fault the selection was so bad. Unfortunately, I found the quality of help to decline in this store over the years, though the day shift employees are usually brighter and more helpful. This is a sign of our time and it's happening everywhere. But having a trained employee in all things LED, would really give this store a boost. There's a lot to know and buying LEDs isn't like buying an incandescent light bulb anymore. So, we left and went to Lowe's. Surprisingly, we got someone who knew a thing or two about our needs and he was quite helpful. While we still didn't know if the LED would work due to the type of ballast the CFL fixture had, we lucked out. While, the LED could be brighter, there wasn't an option for that and it still outperformed the CFL, even with less lumens. I may want to do the same for my under cabinet fluorescent tube lights and Ace did have an LED in 24",which Lowe's didn't have. But, it pays to research on stiff like this because finding an expert is not easy. I think the technology is still advancing and moving quickly, which is faster than any training going on. read more

I usually don't like asking for help here because I leave disappointed with the lack of knowledge of the employees. I am not a professional contractor or any thing but the employees at a hardware store should know at least, if not more, than I. This time I needed treated wood and was helped by a very nice gentleman named Raymond. He was very knowledgeable on what I needed and spent extra time explaining how to reinforce the fence I was building. Raymond deserves accommodations for his excellence in customer service. I have been stopping at this store for decades and would have rated 5 stars every time. You pay higher prices but you get such personalized service. When I would see assistant manager Sunny she would help me find what I need and take me around the store as if she was my personal shopper. She was always pleasant, had experience and always knew where to find every item. Those days are gone! After today I'm not sure I will go back. All new faces, didn't seem to be as many employees on the floor as before and I cannot tell you how many employees passed by without asking if I needed help. Frustrating. Finally got ahold of Katie and she was very helpful. I did decide to speak to a manager but she didn't seem all that interested. Too bad. Honestly, I should have known to come to Ace first rather than trying to find what I needed at a big box hardware store. Not only do they have a much wider selection of things than the larger stores, but they hire knowledgeable people. I needed to connect a specific size of fountain pump outlet to the existing tubing in the fountain, and once I described the purpose and dimensions involved, the Ace employee was immediately able to point me to several solutions that would fit my purpose. Not like the big box stores where you're lucky if they know what aisle the item would be in (assuming they even have it). read more

I went into the store just now,I usually don't have issues going into this store, (all the mask wearing non-sense is making it more difficult) I went in the spray can section, and picked up a can of Rustoleum Mint green paint+primer, but it also said Gloss on the can, so I guess that should have answered my question. I just wasn't 100% sure if the paint was gonna be a dull coat, or gloss coat. The rude, overweight, lady in the paint department was finished helping a customer, he left, she was left to mix his order, I nicely, and politely said "Pardon me, Mrs..." She gave me immediate attitude, throwing her hands up, and a VERY condescending "What do you want!?!" Taken back, and angry after that I said "Just forget it!" She then said "I'm trying to social distance is all!!" I said back to her "I'm 6 feet away from you, and my mouth and nose are covered!"(Which they were) And stormed away! The cashier however was very nice and polite, and I told her calmly (I was boiling inside at this point) "Could you please let the manager know that woman in paint was very short, and rude to me?" She said she would. I would give 5 stars if not for this woman in paint. I am the customer, and I will not be rude to others in stores. I however will NOT take crap from rude employees! I hope the manager reads this and takes the appropriate measures. Bill, or whoever the one in charge is. This is NOT the other big Hwd Stores ... and they don't try Fo a huge fence project etc I am forced to go to the Depot / and other Nascar supporters. Yes there I can get supplies but thats it. The Help at ACE is AWESOME. If you have a question they will probably ask if you need help before you have to ask. Just one of many examples is when I was fixing a shower knob leak. I had it dissasemblerd and in my hand. The plumbing EXPERT took me right to the correct item and explained that I was really only fixing 1/2 the problem. he sold me the "inner seal" I didnt even know existed, told me the easy "how to" and .. !!! loaned me the tool to fix it ! That does not happen at the previously mentioned places OR almost anywhere these days Ohhh and "puppy friendly" Really 4 & 1/2 stars, only not 5 because no lumber ... but honestly don't neet that from them read more
