I rarely write a review, and I write positive ones when I can and have for ACE in the past. I am usually pleased with the service at Bill's Concord ACE but on my last visit there was definitely room for improvement. Last Thursday, 7/22, at 7PM, there was only one cashier working and four of us in line. I asked for another cashier and another customer echoed that request while two more customers joined the line making six. The young lady made a call but it took another cashier 10 minutes to arrive, I know because I was still there. I quick walk thru of the store showed that there were 6 other employees working but no sign of a manager or lead. I was told Tom was the shift manager at that time. The cashier was polite but seemed harried and lacked support. It seems reasonable that there should be two people working in front or get quick support. read more

Came in yesterday for help in trying to mount a bookcase on a wall. Monica was super patient and set me up with the right bolts and brackets to super-securely mount it. And it looks great! This ACE Hardware is absolutely phenomenal! I was looking for a deck storage bin. There were a few outside and KK and Tony tried to see if it would fit in my car. They moved things around, KK was holding my stroller, they were absolutely lovely!! In the end I went with the slightly smaller storage container as I could get it home. I was just astounded with this customer service. And it doesn't end there! I needed more stuff in the store so I told KK what projects I was doing, she talked to me about what I would need, and walked around the store with me and helped me pick everything out. It was such a lovely interaction, she is a great employee and a wonderful person! Looking forward to my projects now that I have everything I need, and I will absolutely be back! read more

I am writing this review as I sit in the parking lot, that's how impressed I am. I have NEVER been to a more well stocked (in inventory and employees) store ever. I was greeted immediately upon entry, and ventured toward the "pretty" stuff on the right as I walked in. It is nice to see a mix of both hardware and home decor in a store like this! After browsing for a few minutes I was approached and asked if I needed help, and an employee was dispatched and met me in the isle to answer all my questions. He then helped me with a couple other needs I came for. As I continued to browse, I was asked multiple times if I needed help (by other employees). It was quite the difference from big box stores where you can never find anyone. Being new to the area, it was sooooo nice to feel that I found a trusty store within a short distance that I feel like I can really rely on. We will be back for sure! Thank you! read more

I used to go to Lowe's and Home Depot on a regular basis. Price was (and is) important. I never realized how much time that took me. The average time to go to Lowe's for a single item was around 40 minutes..around an hour for Home Depot. Why? Well, they don't have qualified employees who know where things are, or know what you are looking for. I can go to ace, and in ten minutes I am out...no matter what obscure bolt or part I need.. I just need to know the item it came from , or even describe it, and they have someone who knows what I want, where it is, and can advise me on how best to use it...and when (on a rare occasion) they don't have it, they can tell you who stocks it. When I look at the cost of my time.. ace is always the better deal. When I look at customer service, a pleasant shopping experience, and a great location, Ace beats them all. I didn't even realize until recently, I've been sending my friends to ace when they need something.. usually with," Don't bother with Home Depot, or Lowe's, you'll spend all day driving around, just go to Ace, they'll have what you need, or they will send you to someone who does." I live fairly close, so I have been coming here for several years. This place is designed for do-it-yourselfers like me. That means that there's a good chance you can get assistance from someone who actually knows answers to your 'how do I' or 'what part do I need' kind of questions. Yes they are usually pricier than Home Depot - AKA Walmart Hardware - but HD is a mass materials seller, offering next to nothing (and sometimes less) for help in the advice dept. Bill's Ace actually hires people with knowledge and over the years I have received lots of great help as well as services. Just yesterday they cut a galvanized pipe for me for free; try to get that done at HD or Osh, but it ain't gonna happen. Admittedly, for my big projects I get my materials from those big box stores, but if I want real help, Bill's Ace is the, uh......place. Also the knowledge passed to me was worth way more than the price difference, and the cuteness of the cashiers doesn't hurt either! read more

I have been frequenting this store for years. They get to know you by name if they see you more than once or twice, and everyone is very friendly. It's central to many local neighborhoods, and has a good selection. Dogs are welcome (probably cats and iguanas, too) and they give them a treat! This is definitely my idea of a neighborhood hardware store. read more

I don't know why we are always constantly surprised by the exemplary service we receive when we go to visit our local Ace Hardware on Clayton Avenue in Concord (probably because Home Depot and Lowes suck in comparison). With every visit we are greeted warmly and solicited to provide our problems so they can offer resolution promptly. My latest visit was no exception (Monday, August 3), my husband had set up an appointment with Ken to get a new key made for our 'newish' minivan that we purchased earlier this year -- the dealership only provided us with one key. The price we were offered to purchase another key from Ace Hardware was more than HALF of the cost than the dealership offered -- and Ken knocked it out in less than 10 minutes, too!! We Love our local hardware store and the people who work there are the friendliest (seriously!) and most helpful you could need. Thanks Ken for your prompt fix for a 2nd car key and with utmost courtesy and grace! Went into Bills looking for two very specific items. The team at Bill's Ace Hardware were brilliant in helping me locate these items. Mike, Jalen, Daniel, and Josh all where involved in helping find these items. The items were not easy to find, yet these guys were determined to located them. Jalen stayed after his shift was over because he was determined to help. Daniel saw the search through from start to finish. Josh and Mike found the two items I was looking for. We had the best service here while we were attempting to put some shelving together. Michael (I think he works in the outside department) went out of his way to explain everything to us and give us all our options. He was patient and very knowledgeable and we were very impressed. He even helped us load our shelves into the car. We love how close and clean the store is and now, because of Michael, you have life long customers. read more

The staff is actually helpful. They carry almost everything I need for all of the jobs I do around the house. They also have a stock of fasteners that far exceeds what the Concord Home Depot has. Prices are high but considering what they have, I'm willing to pay what they're asking. read more

I had been to bill's dozens of times, I use to really like supporting local however tonight was the worst experience I have ever had. I walked at 7:45 I completely understand they close at 8, and I have 2 faucet handles in my hand. I asked the this women with short black curly hair and glasses a question. I showed her the two faucet handles, I informed her one moved the other seemed stuck what would you recommend. She flippantly says a new faucet and walks away. I am glad your employee care for helping out your customers. I went to another place and the faucet works fine. Even though live less than a mile away and I support small local shops, I will not go into Bill's ever again. read more

We purchased a Traeger grill a few months back. I had nothing but issues with it since we bought it. I called the hardware store explain my issue and they drove to my house to troubleshoot. After an hour the crew told me they were going to bring me a new unit. Great customer service and follow through. Just a quick shoutout to KK at this Concord Ace. I called to verify that something was in stock before I went through with my curbside online order. Sure enough once she checked it wasn't in stock, but she offered very willingly to see if another local store had it. Got a call right back and it will be transferred to this store today! She was friendly and I definitely got off the phone feeling that this is "the helpful place." And an EXTRA big shoutout for the option to do curbside pickup in these strange times. I like to support the smaller business and they always seem to have what we need. Much prefer going here rather than big box or the behemoth in Clayton. We LOVE this Ace Hardware and this is why. On Saturday we were in the Clayton Rd store and as we left, my husband saw a great deal on a Lawn Mower and we have been looking for one. AS we were looking at it, Emma came up, she was not clocked in yet and offered to help us with it right out of the blue. I don't think she even clocked in yet. We were so thankful for Emma and her willingness to spend her time to help out a customer like that. I have taught customer service classes before and I was so very impressed with Emma and her customer service skill. She went in and got her co worker Levi. He was awesome as well. He gave us the run down on the mower and why it was on sale and long story short, We have a new lawn mower for a great price, we meet two amazing people with great customer service skills at Bill's Ace Hardware and we are so very happy to now live in this neighborhood. In this day and age when there are so many people who prefer to shop online, you need only spend a few minutes in this store to know how great it is to have a neighborhood business staffed with people like Drew, Mark, and Logan to help you out and go that extra mile. I was so scattered and upset when I came in and in a matter of minutes, the calm, professional, and generous men noted above were able to help me find what I needed and in addition help me solve a vexing problem which was not their responsibility. You cannot put a price on relationships and having establishments close by that care about your satisfaction and well-being. I had the best experience at this Ace Hardware. On the day before Easter I was on a mission to find battery operated tea lights to be used in plastic eggs for a night time Easter egg hunt. I had been to a couple stores already with no luck. I pulled up in front of this Ace Hardware and realized that my 20 month old grandson was asleep in his car seat and the Ace Hardware shopping cart was too small to hold his kind of car seat. I looked over and noticed an Ace Hardware employee (Thomas Titus) outside of the store and asked him if he happened to know if they sold battery operated tea lights at this location. I commented that I'd prefer not to get my grandson out of the car if they didn't have what I was looking for. He asked me to hold on a moment and went back into the store. He brought out exactly what I was looking for and even went so far as to open the package so I could make sure it would fit inside the eggs I had purchased. He then brought my cash into the store and rang up my purchase and brought me back my change and receipt so I could stay outside with my grandson. There is an Orchard Supply that is much closer to my house but I go to Bill's Ace because OSH stocks substandard merchandise and fails to stock many types of hardware that I need. I love this little shop! They have everything you need. They even carry retro candy and snack items ! Needs a little dusting off here and there but it is a hardware store. They carry a huge selection of mason jars too which is awesome. The only reason no 5 stars on my review is they keep their plastic bottled water cases in front IN THE SUN!!! Which is a HUGE health department no no!! The suns rays release chemicals from the plastic into the water so never buy the water! That is no bueno ! But they have a great selection of backyard and bird food and bird baths, BBQ section rocks. For a little store they have a lot ! read more

This is the only hardware store where I can take a plumbing part and say I need one of these, they take me to the right aisle and give me the right part along with how to do it. Yes, I am the plumber at my house. I also buy all my planter soil and soil supplements here. They carry my favorite brand (Greenall) they carry it at a great price and they always load it in my car. I have always been a fan of buying from independent local stores instead of the big national chains. your store is very close and convenient. but, the primary reason for my review is the help I have received twice by the employee known as "k. k. " she has gone out of her way to give world class service when I had questions or needs. Love this store (as much as a non-handy girly girl can love a hardware store). It's right around the corner from where we live, and all the employees are SUPER helpful! Last week I asked one of them where I could find a grill brush and rather than saying "They're over in aisle 1.", he walked me all the way over to the grilling section and pointed out all the grill brushes they have. Nice. And during that same visit I had quite a few things in my arms, another employee practically chased me down to give me a cart for my stuff. I also like that it's not super huge and intimidating like Home Depot is. So happy to have this place nearby. read more

Me and my son went in today to make an exchange and shop around for a new pocket knife. The store was great as usual, but we had a bad time making the exchange... because my original purchase was made with a gift card my sister gave me for Xmas. It was BS and bothersome but it ended very well with the store manager. She was as nice and caring as a person could be. It made a humongous difference for me and my little boy standing there watching his dad get anxious and irritated. She basically saved the damn day and sent us off happy and feeling good about being customers there. The person that upset me perhaps just forgot that the customers don't work there, we aren't your coworkers (we don't NEED to do anything, we just politely pay and that's that) and you should treat every customer kindly and respectfully, slow down and do what you can to help them. I must admit 100% I'm sensitive to these issues in general, meaning I notice it a lot faster and it takes a lot less to rub me the wrong way but I can explain why too. It's because, unless any customer themselves are disrespectful or actually stealing, then they should not only be treated well... but also treated like the whole reason we are even at the store and the store itself exists. Why even have a store if the customer isn't treated like the absolute reason you even showed up that day, the whole store exists to get a customer to first come inside, second to buy something. Look, If the customer never needed help or never had a question, or never had an issue with an exchange, then why on earth would we need customer service and a human attending the counter? Thank you to the store manager that made this right (HUGE thank you to her) she easily could have made it worse but did not, she made it completely fine, she explained I am not being treated poorly or anything other than it was an unfortunate incident (and I fully believed her and it felt very sincere). She ended it wonderfully. Sorry to the person that pissed me the hell off, I sincerely am. Both of us should and could have handled that differently. Thinking back on it I have to say she handled it well too because she easily could have just said some smart thing back to me or whatever else and then it would have been unacceptable, she by no means did, she respectfully stopped and correctly left me the hell alone after I expressed my dissatisfaction with the situation. That in itself deserves credit. I will definitely be back and would recommend this store to anyone based on the way they turned this feeling around and kept me feeling good about this store. Odd but certainly an earned 5 stars. read more

5-7-19 I walked into this ACE hardware store & was promptly & professionally greeted, I was asked if I needed help finding anything? I asked and received the information I needed, then she thanked me for my military service, as I started to find my initial item I was asked by another associate if I needed help finding anything, I said that I was dialed in, again a thank you for my service, a gentleman in the area where I was looking for my item assisted me and asked if there was anything thing else I needed? I asked for ore items and again he assisted me. Another gentleman approached me and thanked me for my service, I asked if he could contact the store manager for me?
