Our daughter who lives in Concord wanted to give her husband a new grill for his birthday. All she knew was that he wanted something that was quick and easy to use without any muss or fuss. Being a Weber guy for over 40 years, I explained to her that a Weber is the only way to go and that he would probably enjoy the Spirit II, 2 burner, propane model, rather than having to fool around with a charcoal grill. We shopped around and decided to call Bill's Ace Hardware, in Concord, which offered FREE ASSEMBLY PLUS FREE DELIVERY. On Wednesday, I spoke to store supervisor, Mario Selva, who answered all of our questions and mentioned they offer FREE ASSEMBLY, PLUS FREE DELIVERY! He had a Spirit II that had just arrived and he would be happy to put it aside for us. I mentioned we could come in on Friday. He was not going to be in, but told me to ask for Thomas, the Store Manager. So on Friday, I drove over to the store and met Thomas. We discussed the details and he walked me back to the rear of the store and there was the Weber Spirit II, reserved with our name. I mentioned that our son-in-law is an Air Force man. Thomas wanted to show his support and threw in a Weber Cover as well as some BBQ Sauce. I wasn't sure how soon they could deliver the grill, and Thomas asked if I was headed back to our daughter and son-in-law's house and I said yes. He then offered to have two of his nice employees, follow me back in their delivery truck to deliver the Weber right then and there. They delivered the grill, set it up and left. Within minutes, the birthday boy arrived home from work and had the surprise of his life! This store has a little bit of everything...in a good way. I went in for a wooden dowel for my window and also came out with a wine opener? Sweet! Hodge podge collection of stuff but the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They know exactly where everything is. Ace will also honor any local coupon and they support the community. I love this place. So much better customer service then Home Depot or Lowes. They have everything the big places do, it's just a smaller store. The prices are also pretty comparable if you use the coupons they send you. When you ask for something is, they walk you over to it and show you. They don't just point in the general direction like Home Depot. I just wish they were still open till 9pm like the other stores. read more

We were doing work in the yard this spring and I had made several trips to Lowe's and Home Depot. I ended up at ACE because I was driving by and it was on the way. I was so pleased by how nice and helpful they are in there. I wish I had been giving them my business all along. When you ask a question at Lowe's or HD, TJ eyes either don't know and don't care, or they point you in the direction of someone else. It's so frustrating. I'm glad I found out about ACE. read more

This is a cute and quaint little Ace. The staff are very friendly. They have a wide variety of things for a neighborhood hardware store and their items are reasonably priced. When in that neighborhood, it's definitely a great place to find what you need quickly without going to a large warehouse type home improvement store. read more

This place is the best hardware store on the planet. (By planet, I mean Concord) I went in the other day for a part for my bed frame, an obscure little set screw and some other really specialty items. They have EVERYTHING. Reasonable prices and incredible services. Shame on the big boxes for not having this kind of service. read more

This is a very nice Ace Hardware. I have never had a problem with long lines, finding items that I need, or requesting help. There is a gentleman who is constantly present , wandering the isles asking if people need assistance, and I find this an extremely wonderful way that a business should be run. It is just like the old days, when you need he'll there are people willing to give you the time of day. I come to this store all the time and have been help by with all kinds of employees. Today I was help by a very young beautiful women with an amazing smile, I think her name was FAVI but I'm not to sure. Anyways she helped me to whatever I needed and she knew almost everything she must be the big Brains at the store. Her knowledge is incredible. The bosses did a good job on hiring someone like her and they need to give her a raise because in my eyes, what I see in her, she really really deserves it. The Clayton rd. store in Concord has KK. KK should get a raise as well as a promotion to run the store. KK is why the Concord store rocks. I give the on-line fill orders team a ZERO, no stars! I ordered a fan I truly needed under a time constraint and I never got an email back that my fan was ready, even though it was in stock! The on-line order team never filled the order or brought it out for me to pickup. This needs to get looked into. There is no reason an order should take over 3 hours to fill. Heck it may not of ever been filled if it weren't for KK. I called and got KK on the phone. She was professional and extremely apologetic. She personally grabbed the item and saw to it that I pick it up from her. She saved me no longer wanting to use Ace Hardware for on-line orders. Mr. Bill, please have your staff concentrate and fill the on-line orders. 3hrs or longer is ridiculous. Thank you KK for saving the day. KK gets 5 stars, the on-line crew gets zero stars. read more

Triple Yea !!! 1. Found what I needed at Bill's Ace (seriously! a replacement special duty light switch) 2. I was actually able to remove the old and replace with new - my wife says, "See, you CAN fix things!" 3. Although I forget my $5 coupon, KATIE wrote up a special tag "forgot coupon" and I got $5 off purchase (cashier thought it a bit weird that I had a Snickers candy bar labeled "CONFUSED" while buying electrical parts !! It was amazing! Employees everywhere I turned as I looked for what I needed & not a single one asked to help me. Many of them made eye contact with me as I wandered throught the store looking for what I needed & did not so much as say hello. I guess since I'm not a regular there or a girl in shorts, I'm not worthy of the attention of the "helpful" staff. The girl working the cash register made me feel as if I was bothering her, which was odd because she was super friendly with the people ahead of me. No greeting just a mumbled"do you have an ace rewards card?",no eye contact & a mumbled "thank you" as she shoved my receipt in my hand. I guess the "great" customer service is reserved for certain people,I guess a 6'4" guy walking all over the store obviously looking for something aisle by aisle & encountering several staff members along the way is pretty easy to miss. I looked a few directly in the eyes & waited to be asked if I needed help & they looked at me & walked right past. This is my usual experience here,I would only come here for convenience & thought perhaps the service might improve for me. I will NEVER set foot in this place again and I will definitely tell friends & family to be sure to go anywhere but here. The staff should be told to treat EVERYONE that walks through the doors exactly the same. It shouldn't matter if it's old Bob who comes in everday or some cute girl in shorts. I recently moved into the area and every time I've gone to the store, the staff is incredibly friendly & helpful. They all seem like they enjoy working there. Coming from Southern CA where Home Depot & Lowes are king, its refreshing to find a good alternative that has more of a small-town feel while having everything that you need. We have been coming to this store for years. The lady in the bbq dept went out of her way to help us we were looking for a propane connector. However when I checked out I could not pull up my coupon for 50% off one item, the cashier on 11/27 at 10am lane 6, dark hair was extremely rude. I could feel she was frustrated I could not pull up coupon on my phone so I said forget it. And par for the course I leave the store and I find the coupon, so I went back in got in line and unfortunately returned to her lane. She was so rude, she said I'm" you're making me do a return? I hope everything is in the box" I explained yes and it's only for one item so why do you have to return everything?" She could t figure out how to do return, I could feel how mad she was. I asked her if I should go to another checker. She would not even speak to me. If it wasn't a 15$ savings i wouldn't have bothered. She knew about the coupon, because she said she couldn't do it without the barcode. Nonetheless I left there feeling very belittled and told her "this is why people don't shop small business and look for my review on Yelp because this was terrible treatment of a customer. She had 2 people trying to help her because she was so flustered. ACE you really need to educate her on customer service this is not how you treat people much less customers. read more

After shopping here for 25+ years, I thought it was time to sing its praises. ACE always has what I need. It is extremely well stocked and if something is not in stock, they will quickly order it. Most importantly is their staff! There is always a very knowledgeable staff person to answer my questions. And they all know who is the expert for each department. Sometimes they explain how to fix my project without buying anything. Sometimes they will suggest a better solution. But I know that ACE's staff is always available, friendly and helpful. read more

I must preface by saying I have enjoyed this store since 1993! Today was exceptional due to the service, friendliness and assistance from Marta, Sunny & Mae. Our kitchen sink hose sprayer black button broke off. I had been looking for the brand replacement sprayer only, at other Ace stores and amazon, since we had just purchased and installed the faucet last summer. I couldn't find the Oakwood brand replacement anywhere. There was a display faucet. After learning that it had been discontinued they stopped my search and gave me the sprayer complimentary!! I always love these people as they are always helpful and accommodating. On my way out I purchased 2 wicker outdoor rocking chairs and 2 side tables. Only 1 would fit in my Chevy Volt, but another staff member who drives a Chevy Bolt, offered to follow me home with the other chairs, but alas it didn't fit in her car. I came back for the other chair and. I also dropped off my knives and they were sharpened at just $3. each. I used them last evening and they are sharp!! I also picked up some floral items to Easter up the yard. I detest big box stores of any kind. This is always so easy and convenient in my own neighborhood. We live near the Ace on Clayton Road in Concord. Although we also shop at the big box stores, this is our 'go to' store for every day hardware needs. They have always been helpful, but today they outdid themselves. I had all the parts to install shelving in a Rubbermaid garden shed. I had watched all the videos and read all the instructions. So had my husband. Things just would not fit properly. I took some photos and headed to Ace. Mario and Paul took me under their wings and started to figure out a workaround. They were amazing as it was not an obvious fix. (I had the impression they were enjoying the challenge!) I now have a working shelf in the garden shed. A BIG shout out to Mario and Paul. Bill's in Concord is the place to go for anything you are looking for to fix, build or just improve around the office or home! Helpful staff, good prices and a great selection. I totally am impressed that they all have headsets on to communicate with each other to expedite things needed. I brought in my propane tank to be filled and they called a guy in the back to pick it up front, fill it and then bring it back to me all within minutes! Way to go Bill's! read more

I went in to pick out paint and was really pleased with the service I recieved. The two people who work at the paint counter (I believe their names are Louie and Ann) are extremely helpful and friendly. In addition to the great service, I was also thrilled to learn that they sell Benjamin Moore paint! The check out clerk was incredibly friendly as well. I usually have a great experience at this hardware store however this time was very different. I am horrified that as a loyal customer I was given incredibly terrible customer service by Suzanne. This experience left me humiliated and very angry that I was treated with such disrespect. It only takes one bad experience to ruin an impression and Suzanne accomplished that.
