    Polish sausage

What's the purpose of fries AND chips at Billy Goat's?? The whole 'speil' is that they have chips, NO Fries! Doesn't matter, it's salt/fat/carbs so I'm not really complaining, plus I did not get either. I stopped in to continue breaking my no red meat/pork fast and had a polish sausage before attending One of a Kind Show. The food selection is too expensive inside the show so the food court is a better option, with health alternatives too. I ordered just that and unsweetened iced tea. It was ok, kinda bleh with no lemon or lime. I enjoyed the polish, the option of fresh condiments made all the difference. The staff was pleasant and helpful too.

On the fence about this one. Prices are reasonable, but only considering how expensive food is in this area of the loop. Portion size is fairly good, but not generous. Ingredients were fresh, but the overall food was not too tasty. The self-serve condiments were nice, but the options were very standard. Food was hot and served relatively fresh. My main issue really lies with how thinly sliced the beef is. It wasn't overcooked here, but it really lacked the great juiciness and satisfying bite that a thicker patty would have. Each individual element was fairly standard, without a special char or ingredient to really elevate the experience. Given the amount of high quality competition that exists in Chicago, this was simply a nice -- but very forgettable burger at a fairly high price (Compared to Doc B's burger for a little more, but very refined and memorable -- or even Portillo's burger). The fries shared a similar fate -- very hot and fairly crispy, but nothing to make it stand out at all. Overall, I wouldn't mind eating here again if I were in the area, but this won't be at the top of my mind when choosing a restaurant.

It was a cold winter day... I was in need of comfort food for lunch, and there was no better place to head than Billy Goat. Knowing I probably shouldn't aim for the ribeye steak sandwich, since I made a conscious effort to cut back on my red meat intake, I went for it anyway. Side Note: The Mediterranean food line was extra long, meaning all those people probably got the memo that it's the start of the year and they should probably stay away from non-healthy comfort food, but that didn't stop me. Got exactly what I expected. It was good! Pretty thin, just a small bit of fat on it, and a little greasy (in the good greasy kind of way), but it hit the spot. You add your own condiments and toppings, and then they pack it up for you and put it in a bag. I waited only about 5 minutes, or less, for my sandwich. That was fast! Tip: They also serve breakfast here in case you are running late and get in with an empty stomach!

Comin' atcha quick just (like my lunch). So pay attention! 5 word summary: Quick. Cheap. Convenient. Comfort food. Deets: I'm lucky enough to now have an office home inside the Merch Mart where there are endless amounts of lunch options all within the building. This especially came in handy this week as we entered into round 2 of Chiberia. Angela S. and I browsed our options and landed at Billy Goat when we decided it was best to warm up our winter day with some comfort food. I ordered the special that was posted: Cheeseburger & fries for $4.99. No bad, not bad at all. My order was ready super quick! They had me put on my own toppings before they wrapped it up to go. Options included pickles, tomatoes, onions, relish, and your standard condiments. To me, the cheeseburger was just okay. Perfect for the occasion, but if I'm comparing cheeseburgers I've had in my life, this one's patty was way too thin and between way too much bun. The fries were pretty good (not the best I've ever had, but still yummy) and the portion I got was huge! At the end of the day, Billy Goat got the job done. Cheap and convenient comfort food provided with quick, friendly and efficient service. Pro tip: The Mediterranean line next door was extremely long, so if you aren't counting cals and in a rush - head to Billy Goat! Fun fact: They also offer breakfast!

Lifeless and sad... The Bullygoat Tavern burger @ the Merch Mart

Here's why you need to know: The worst burger I have ever eaten. Period. There should be laws against selling burgers this tasteless and pathetic. I came into this Billy Goat Tavern Merchandise Mart location on a Tuesday afternoon at lunch time. I sorely regret my decision - a wasted lunch. There was no line and I ordered a triple with cheese, an egg, and grilled onions. The bun was dry and an unappetizing yellow color; the beef had no taste... Nada... Zilch. Not even salt. The cheese was disgusting and synthetic tasting with a waxy texture. Even the egg was lifeless and without seasoning. I don't get how that's even possible - How can you screw up a fried egg. It's almost as if they went out of their way to create this masterpiece - the worst burger in Chicagoland and beyond. The best part of the experience was the friendly staff. I wasted $8 on the burger.

The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the curry chips: potato wedges lightly fried with masala and curry leaves. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. We tried a variety of NA beers, and I was pleased with how many options they had. Service was quick, and we were well looked after. The ambiance is warm, with dim-ish lighting and a lot of dark wood. The restrooms were gorgeous - special shoutout to the lovely floral wallpaper. Overall, I highly recommend Pleasant House - the vibe is chill and understated and the food is stellar.

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

Amazing that fun isn't always beers and chugging. The food is actually good and can be talked about in reviews because some people actually come here to eat, which tells you how they actually have a kitchen. Believe everything is good here but we came for the beers of course. It's certainly the main product made here so why wouldn't it be important. They make more than you can believe which is impressive because there's all kinds of crowds who pass through. For sure everyone wants beer. It's $6 a pint at happy hour. Pretty great for craft beers compared to lots of places it seems. Best one we got was the Bucket Hat. This is a Belgian style witbier. Has notes of bubble gum, coriander, and orange. The food isn't an afterthought so get some of that. It's about $18 for a burger. Vegans have options. Certainly one of these is the Veggie Burger. This is an amazing thing with a spinach patty topped with chipotle tomato marmalade, cremini mushrooms, mixed greens, pickled red onions, and sweet potatoes. All on a fluffy ciabatta bun. The rest of the menu contains meaty stuff. For sure it feels like a place for the hipsters but it's pretty great for anyone. It's located at the intersection of Jackson and Wabash close to lots of fun. The brewery has food that's better than expected but many other things about this kind of stuff are typical.

Whiskey fans, you'll love the huge selection along with the impressive beer selection. Yelp should really hype this as a whiskey bar, too. It more than qualifies. The cuisine is phenomenal. Definitely a place to bring a large party on your first visit, so you can sample a multitude of wonderful creations. Pro Tip: if you can tolerate a large quantity of fish, visit on a Wednesday for their AYCE Fish & Chips. I've had many hum drum AYCE dinners that are drab and only fill you up. Not this one. It's a great meal and a great deal. The Shepherd's Pie was fabulous, as was the Bangers and Mash. They've created a Haggis Burger that has to appease Americans, yet, still be haggis. A tall order since most would hate "true" haggis. Fear not, it's not your grandfather's haggis, it is a tasty burger. The fries were great but I'd recommend the Tattie Skins. We tasted so many different malts it was hard to pick a favourite. No foolin' they had island malts, highland malts, speyside and even a couple from the lowlands. Easy to spend over two hours in this public house. We did. Can't wait to get back to this town. This is a must! 02/26

After we sat down, our server took her sweet time getting to us and was largely absent the entire visit while the servers for the others tables were attentive and present as I've come to expect. We started with the Crispy Brussels and Burrata Toast which was an amazing and fun combination of flavors textures with the sherry glaze and pickled onions providing a perfect counter to the richness of the cheese. Our second course was the Gage Caesar which we've had before and have enjoyed sharing multiple times, but this time the lettuce was full of grit as if the prep chef did not even bother washing the lettuce. The server never came by to check on us so I had to wave the manager to complain about the salad. The server also never checked to see if we wanted refills on our cocktails so we placed our orders with the manager. The final dish was the venison burger which was perfectly cooked and seasoned if you like venison, which I do so we enjoyed that greatly. The condiments that came with it were perfectly matched to balance the game of the meat and the fries were perfect as usual! The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.
