I figured it would be a wait on a Friday at the Biltmore estate around noon but we were able to walk right in and get a seat. We needed to kill some time before our Biltmore tour so we decided to stop by the Stable Cafe and I was pleasantly surprised! We were there around 11:30 and walked right in and set down. The waitress was so friendly and helpful she made us feel like she really enjoyed her job and where she worked. The staff were all also chatting and helping each other out, which really gave the restaurant a nice family atmosphere. Our food was out very quickly, our water never went dry and our check came out as soon as we were done eating. I truly believe that this restaurant could teach other restaurants a lesson on how to manage a business! The atmosphere was everything you wanted it to be! You felt like you were eating in a stable without feeling like you were eating in a stable. The restaurant had real plants all over which I felt was a nice touch. The best part was each booth felt like a stall but didn't box you in. The prices were pretty high especially because you have to pay just to get onto the Biltmore Estate. The food was good, not the best food I have had but it was good. I was on a special diet for the time being so I was looking for something on the healthier side and I found it. I ordered the Roasted Winter Squash and Harvest Grain entree with chicken and no goat cheese, it was very good for a healthy dish. I will be honest if I get the chance to go back I will probably not order the same thing again. It was packed with flavor but most of that flavor was healthy flavor. I did however get exactly what I asked for even my special substitutions were correct, which made it easy to eat out on a diet. My mom ordered the Smoked Turkey and Brie Sandwich, she liked it but felt like there wasn't enough Brie on the sandwich. I wasn't able to try the sandwich for myself so I can't verify if there was in fact enough cheese. As a final note just because it took me a while to figure out (much longer than it should have) Stable Cafe is located right next to the Biltmore House. This was a great place to eat. We made a reservation for 2:45 through open table and I thought that worked out perfect. I think all the restaurants on the Biltmore are pricey, but I will say the food definitely was good. The wine flight was not that great. They only offered 5 of the Biltmore ones and only 4 were in stock and the flight is only 3, so you do the math. And none of them were good, in my opinion. My husband started with the butternut squash soup, which I'd wish I got after I tried it. I got the seasonal side salad. We each got the bison grilled cheese and it was delicious! I also got their seasonal pumpkin crème brûlée and my husband got the apple stack. Both were good, but the pumpkin one was amazing. Again, a little overpriced. I have been to Biltmore more times than I can count, but this was my first visit to the Stable Cafe. Like all things Biltmore, it was spectacular. Melinda was our server and she was amazing. She knew the menu well and made excellent suggestions. I enjoyed a large glass of my favorite Biltmore wine, and my husband had a Brown Ale. We ordered the Warm Pimento Cheese appetizer and it was delicious. Melinda told us to keep the cheese and try it on our French fries when we ran out of crackers! GREAT CALL! I ordered the Chicken Salad Sandwich with Brussel Sprouts and my hubby ordered the Pulled BBQ Sandwich with fries. The food was beyond good and I loved the setting. There is still so much that they kept true to the stables and it was an all around enjoyable experience. While now filled with tables instead of horses... we had a booth directly in a former stall. So cool to see all the details. The food was wonderful. We took advantage of this dining location due to a close proximity to the Biltmore estate. The café is inside the stables that are right next-door to the actual house. It's a cute set up as of the original stalls are still in place and instead have been converted to seating. The food came out incredibly quick and our server Donna was absolutely a pleasure to have. They open for linch at 11am but there are bakeries/coffee available out in the main courtyard prior to. I had Larry's meatloaf. It is an estate raised traditional beef meatloaf served with crispy smashed potatoes and fried brussels sprouts topped with tomato bacon jam. It was absolutely delicious and those crispy brussels sprouts were amazing! I also indulged in a Biltmore brewery pale ale. Well it's not brew directly on property the ingredients for the beer are grown on property but it's actually produced at Highlands brewery and ship back to the property. French fries were good although lacking a little salt and the club sandwich was delicious but he would've preferred to have American cheese versus cheddar cheese. The ambiance was wonderful in the renovated stable. Our waitress was attentive, kind and friendly. The strawberry salad was a large portion and delicious. The shrimp and grits-cakes appetizer was incredible!!! So full of flavor. We were excited to try the red velvet cake, but it was awful - the cake had no taste, it didn't have a cream cheese icing and the vanilla icing wasn't good, and the Oreo topping wasn't enough to overcome the other parts that didn't taste good. The coconut cream dessert was an interesting interpretation - but not in a good way. So good great, but dessert terrible. We arrived before they got really busy for lunch. Party of 6 people. 3 tables put together of various heights. I accidentally set my ice tea on the step between the tables and it spilled all over. After cleaning it up with very little help from the server, other than a dirty rag etc we were short 3 linen napkins. We had to ask about 4 times to get them replaced and then she only brought 2. One time she brought small paper napkins but not linen ones. My pork sandwich was supposed to come with blueberry bbq sauce. When she delivered it she asked if I wanted, which was a yes! I had to ask twice more for it, meanwhile my pork got cold and others were partly through eating. One side salad came with no dressing on it. I love how they repurposed the stables into a cafe! It's so neat! They have booths in each of the horse stalls and there is so much light that comes into the cafe from the windows above the stalls. The place was packed! The food was delicious! Was able to substitute a gluten free bun for my smoked pulled pork bbq sandwich. Five stars for amazing service and hospitality! We had a reservation, but we were done with our house tour a little bit early so we were starving. Maurice was at the host stand and made sure to get us in as soon as he could. The café is so quaint and adorable, it used to be the old carriage house where they would store the horse and carriage. The variety of the menu was lovely for lunch, we opted for the barbecue and the deviled eggs. The deviled eggs had a nice piece of bacon on it that was thick and jerky like. It was nicely flavored with some pickled onions. For lunch, we chose the brisket and chicken barbecue plate. The chicken was fall off the bone, I could have had tons and tons of it. It was amazing! The barbecue sauce was very light and had a very slight vinegar taste. It was perfect. I think we polished up two little sides of it! Now, the dessert! We chose the bilt s'more tart. It was absolutely amazing! The crust was nice and buttery and it had layers of delicious chocolate with peanut butter on the bottom. It also had the toasted marshmallow on the top. The Stable Cafe is one of the restaurants on the Biltmore Estate and is the closest to the House. You can make reservations if you know when you will be wanting to dine. The atmosphere is nice here to dine and the service is really great. There are booths to one side of the restaurant, tables in the middle and partitioned sections with a few tables in each on the other side. I prefer to sit in the section with just a few tables as it is quieter. I ordered the pot roast that came with mac n cheese and greens. It was a lot of food and the meat portion was huge. It was enough food to split. I couldn't finish it but my waiter gave me a to go box and put it in a bag. The meat was tender and very good. The mac n cheese was creamy. I ordered the braised lamb shank that was way overcooked, making the meat incredibly tough to eat. My wife's Cornish Hen was delicious, but it was served on a bed of stone cold vegetables. This unique venue is located in the restored stable house at The Biltmore Estate. The room, a large stable space with original tile walls includes booths set in the horse stalls with the feeders still intact. The place was boisterous as it was lunchtime and packed with servers bustling to get diners and Biltmore House guests in and out to make their Tour times. I wished I had written down the name of our server because she was the epitome of casual southern charm. When we informed her we had 50 minutes for lunch before our ticket time for a tour of the Biltmore House, she did everything to make sure we got served quickly and brought our check before we were even finished. This was much appreciated. My wife LOVES pot roast and ordered that. What came out was a MASSIVE portion of pot roast on a bed of white cheddar macaroni and cheese with braised winter greens and a demi-glace on top. The cheese sauce on the macaroni was more like a bechamel, but she had no complaints! She could barely get through half the pot roast and our server ("bless her heart") kept asking my wife if she found the food to her satisfaction. Absolutely she did! I ordered the Blue Ridge Spicy Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich, tossed in a spicy vinegar with housemade dill pickles and a pimento cheese spread with housemade potato chips. I'm not a fan of the local cheese spread, but that's just me. The rest was delicious! This meal was good to begin with, but made great by the amazing service of our server and a unique environment. You have to have tickets to the estate in order to dine at their restaurants, making them quite exclusive, but certainly in demand for those visiting the property. You can make reservations or be prepared to wait for a table. The service is top-notch and the menu is ever-changing thanks to the seasonal fare created by their noted chefs. Absolutely horrible experience. We waited 40 minutes to be seated which was perfectly fine with us. It was a busy day and we were just enjoying our vacation. After being seated, we waited 30 minutes before we asked the host to help us locate our waitress because people seated after us had their drinks and food orders taken already. He said the manager was coming to take our drink orders. That didn't happen but our waitress finally came to get our drink and appetizer order, and we waited so long to get the waitress to come, we placed our food order at the same time. We got our drinks in about 10 minutes and waited another 20 minutes for our appetizer, which was ice cold. We continued to wait on our food, the waitress kept coming by saying our food will be out in a minute but at 45 minutes after ordering we decided to leave because we never received our food. Bottom Line: Casual and convenient dining location while visiting the Biltmore Estate. For starters, it's important to know that you need tickets to the Biltmore Estate to visit this restaurant. Also, to access the restaurant you need to park and take a shuttle or walk in about 1/4 a mile or so. So even for season ticket holders this isn't a convenient restaurant to visit unless you're up for the usual trek to the house. Anyway, my husband and I dined at the Stable Cafe after touring the house so the location was perfectly convenient for our purposes. Also convenient was being able to make a reservation on Open Table which I highly recommend. We enjoyed being able to dine in the fabulous and historic Biltmore stable. I appreciate that the integrity of the original structure has been maintained while being repurposed for dining. The dining room was a tad cramped but otherwise quite comfortable after a morning of walking the estate on a cool, damp day. Service was attentive and welcoming. As for the menu, I'd describe it as southern comfort. I enjoyed a feast of barbecued meats while my husband devoured the roasted chicken. While we chose hearty entrees for our lunch the menu offers lighter fare like salads and sandwiches. Also, they have specials that are very tempting.
