The food is delicious and everything tastes freshly made. The people are nice and get you seated quickly. The food comes out fast and hot. The price was reasonable and very fun place to eat. It is about a 2 minute walk from the house. I would recommend it to anyone hungry on site. We have had excellent meals as well as not so good meals. It's very pricey and I felt that my lamb was a major miss so the price. The squash soup had very little flavor and my dessert cake was not moist. So my meal this week was very bad for it being over $70 but have had good meals in the past. Really nice transformation of the stable to a cafe. Along one wall the stalls have been turned into booths. The larger stalls on the other side have been turned into seating area with a few tables. The menu is called Appalachian Comfort food. It had a nice variety of items and is probably a tad on the high side but you get a large portion. Our waitress was sweet and so good. Refills without asking checked on us at the right time and was just so pleasant. We had a variety of items and everyone was pleased with our meals. I had the smoked pork barbecue sandwich which come with a creamy coleslaw on a brioche bun and fries. The pork was very good with a nice bbq flavor. The side of Bbq sauce was just OK but the sandwich really did not need any additional flavor. Really enjoyed our meal and the outstanding service. We did get there around 1pm and were told there was a 20 minute wait. But the wait was actually shorter. During our wait we were able to stroll thru a few of the other shops in the stable. read more

After an exhausting tour of the main house, we came here for a meal. The restaurant is in a converted horse stable. The sheer size of this building for horses could have been living quarters for about 20 families. The portions are huge and that is good because you will be hungry after all that walking. I got the Stable Café Sampler (smoked baby back ribs, smoked pulled pork barbecue, rotisserie chicken, collard greens, southern butter beans, coleslaw and Stable's sweet pickles). It was a lot of food, but so good. Not a fan of butter beans, so I didn't eat those. The sweet pickles reminded me of the ones my grammy use to make, so that is compliment. All of the meats were good...not overcooked, juicy and tender. I thought the prices were good, but will say that coming from Chicago. In the South were things are cheaper, they may seen steep to others. read more

Visiting the Biltmore is already pretty extravagant, but eating in the stables was pretty cool too. The individual horse stalls have been turned into booths while the rest of the restaurant is full of traditional tables. The menu is simple, but full of options everyone should enjoy! A 19th century stable that serves tasty, old fashioned food. What a wonderful place to stop and eat after spending the morning at the Biltmore. I always look forward to eating here when we come. The chicken is my favorite! I learned from the audio tour at the house that its a family recipe. I love that feeling when I eat this meal, its like i'm really eating back in those days. The food is very generous and 1 meal can easily be split, which makes it very affordable. Order Spice Rubbed Springer Mountain Chicken. 1/2 chicken, heirloom peas, mashed potatoes w/ herbed brown butter chicken gravy and rolls. $19.95 Wow! the chicken is fall off the bone tender. The seasoning on the chicken is wonderful and you can really taste the fresh herbs. The mashed potatoes were tasty, and the herbed chicken gravy is so delicious that I asked for another cup on the side. The heirloom peas were also very fresh and tasty. I love that this used to be an old horse stable. It's a really neat experience unlike any other. The service is great and the prices are really affordable. We got a reservation at 11 because we had our tour at 1:30. It was a very nice place and I loved the decorations. I got a bacon cheeseburger, which was so good. Bland, nothing special, you can salt and pepper food, but you didn't. I ordered the brind turkey. My friends got the chicken salad and a burger. It was nothing to write home about. The description on the menu did not match what was received. The only winning factor was the burger wasn't horrible. Also, the salad that was made was wilted.... Where was the farm to table quality? The tea and black worry lemonade were delicious. You should get unsweet and the black worry lemonade mixed. It's great! read more

I wasn't as impressed as I could have been for this visit. The food is right on price for what you get, but I was definitely not blown by it. I feel if you really want to eat at the Estate then, by all means, let the Stable Cafe be it. However, I would recommend eating off the estate to get a fresh feel for Asheville cuisine. If you want to stay local without the havoc of leaving and coming back - your family is guaranteed to find something off the menu that suits everyone. I think the expectation you should have your visit is that service is not that great, pricing is inflated, and the food is a bit underwhelming. My only complaint would be that all our food came out at once (likely because we ordered close to closing time), but everything was exceptional. Wedge salad was refreshing and herby. We were seated in about 10 minutes, it was a almost peak lunchtime. The menu is diverse and the portions large. We both decided on two starters for lunch, the BBQ Meatballs and Mixed Green Salad. The meatballs were created from pork and estate raised beef in a brown sugar BBQ sauce. The salad included grape tomatoes, cucumbers, carrot shavings, dressed in a Biltmore Dijon dressing. The meatballs were tasty, moist and delicious. The BBQ sauce was tasty, and smooth and silky. The salad was predominantly romaine lettuce, with very little small leaf romaine. We picked the place for lunch because it was very close to the main house, and it was pretty much what we thought it would be - resort overpricing, nearly decent food (ate here because of the location, would not seek it out), the service was a nice surprise, but the place was noisy and tight fitting in the walled off stalls. My Cheeseburger, which was prepared with estate-raised Black Angus beef - they promised, came with French Fries, and cost $15.50, and was just ok, just very much only ok - for that price it should have come with 2 complete burgers, a real bun, a bushel of potatoes, and an ice cream sundae. We had the nerve to show up at prime lunchtime on a recent Monday without reservations and got really lucky with just a fifteen minute wait. They gave us a pager that works in the shops, so killing time was not a problem for us. Note that when the pager goes off, there's still another wait until a table actually is ready. Pager going off means get up there because it's going to be ready soon and you're next when it does. So a few minutes later we were shown to one of the stable booths and were immediately attended to by a nice Gentleman who took very good care of us. They were having a red Sangria special for five bucks, which I went for and was glad I did. It wasn't too sweet...very refreshing! We each tried a burger...I chose the Bison one: "locally raised Carolina Bison, freshly ground and grilled, on a brioche roll with harissa aioli,mandarin orange chutney, onions, tomato, leaf lettuce and swiss cheese, served with fries" for $17.95. Husband went simply with: "Classic Burger* estate-raised Black Angus beef, flame-grilled and served on a freshly baked brioche bun with lettuce,tomato, onion" and his choice of Blue Cheese for $14.95. We both liked our burgers very much. The chutney on mine was on the bottom of the roll and it added a touch of sweetness that I really liked. It was lean but still juicy. Very nice roll as well. Fries good also. They did put the pickle on top of them which could've gotten 'em soggy had I not been quick to move the sucker. (hah, wasn't born yesterday!) After watching the large table next to us try every dessert, we couldn't resist checking out their infamous Key Lime Pie. Oh wow...this is a meringue-lover's dream! The tangy bottom is covered with a MOUNTAIN of meringue. (See pic!). And the few fresh berries are the perfect compliment. Yes, it's not cheap to dine here, but how cool to be able to have a quality meal right AT this historical manor! read more

Stopping by the stable café and enjoyed ourselves some of the new desserts on the menu. The manager brought them out for us to try a variety. They were all delicious and wonderfully made. It can get a bit noisy here as it is right beside the House and so popular, but the setting is wonderful in the old stables of the Biltmore. If you sit in one of the booths you can notice that it is one of the original horse stalls and you can see bite marks from the horses chewing on the wood. The floor is original as are many of the other aspects of the building. Absolutely beautiful building. read more

I reviewed the Bistro earlier this year (the restaurant at the Biltmore's Ant Hill Winery) and I didn't think the restaurants at the Biltmore could get any better than the Bistro, but I am happy to say that I was mistaken! Recently, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the Candlelight Christmas Evenings at the Biltmore. We were running a little behind and knew we wouldn't have time to eat before arriving, so we ended up eating at the Stable Café as it is conveniently right next to the Biltmore Estate. And wow, we were both very satisfied with the quality of the food and the service. They were offering a pumpkin soup that night. When I asked whether the soup was sweet or not, our server said she had the perfect answer and to wait a second. To my surprise, she came back with a small cup of the soup. It was not sweet at all and simply delicious. Smooth, creamy, and tasted exactly like pumpkin. I know for a fact we were not her only table, which just means she truly went above and beyond to make each table feel like we were her only. That night my boyfriend ordered steak (medium rare) and I ordered the elk rack (medium well). Both were delicious. The steak was tender and juicy. It was definitely a pleasant surprise as I usually don't have high expectations for steak outside of a steakhouse. The elk was also full of flavor and I am definitely glad I decided to try deer meat for the first time at the Stable. Even the sides/veggies were tasty. The dessert was a little too sweet for me, but the presentation was gorgeous (you know, those cake that look too good to eat?). I think for the average person the dessert will be just right. Came here for my bf's birthday dinner before our evening tour of the Biltmore Estate. There's some real authenticity here because this used to be the stables of the Biltmore Estate. The food is a bit pricey but its worth it. We came close to Thanksgiving so I think they had sort of a special menu for dinner. It was a three course meal with appetizer, main course and dessert. For my appetizer I got this absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS pumpkin soup. Omg I wish I had another bowl of it! My bf got the arugula salad with shrimp. As for my main course I had the Hand Cut Petite Filet and my bf had the Cheerwine Braised Short Rib. I'm super picky with my steak since I'm from Texas but this was PERFECT! I really enjoyed it! I tried the Short Rib, but honestly wasn't a fan so I wouldn't recommend it. But that steak though!! 100% get it! For dessert I got the the cheesecake tart and my bf got this raspberry roll cake. I liked my dessert but didn't like that roll cake. We did enjoy this place and it was so easy to just get dinner and walk over to the estate for the tour! read more

From the quick glance I took of the main floor, the restaurant looked incredible as the stables had been converted into booths. I would have loved to sit in one of them. Instead, we were ushered upstairs where you could still appreciate the historic setting. Absolutely love their field-to-table options... -Spinach & Peach Salad with Grilled Salmon: My salad was a little wilted, but the pickled peaches and fresh blueberries helped brighten the dish. Candied pecans provided something sweet while adding a nice crunch and the gorgonzola gave the salad a nice creamy finish. My salmon was grilled beautifully as it was flaky and moist. -Southern Chicken Salad: Tender and juicy chicken mixed with fresh herbs and celery made this dish a favorite as well. It took us no time to devour this sandwich. :] -Coffee Rubbed Flank Steak: The chimichurri dressed on the steak took this dish up a notch. It was savory and bold and paired well with the broccolini. -Fig Napoleon: How creative is this dessert?! Puff pastry and nutty roasted figs layered within whipped marscarpone cream and served with fig compote and marscarpone ice cream... Such a delight and a beautiful way to end our meal. Good food, farm to table focus. Some days you just have to lead with dessert. We did our Biltmore house tour and found ourselves suddenly enormously hungry. So we went with a friend's recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed a slice of my favorite pie, sweet potato. But this was a two-person slice, topped with a tower of meringue and accompanied by glazed pecans. I don't even like meringue (usually when we get lemon meringue I have lemon pie and hubs is forced to take one for the team in the form of lemon meringue meringue) but evidently when it is "toasted citrus meringue" it's my new favorite topping. For our entree we tried the 2-person Appalachian Sampler, which our server assured us was not only his favorite but also the top seller. I liked the pulled pork best and hubs the smoked ribs. The rotisserie chicken we could do without -- grocery store rotisserie chicken is getting better to the point that it's nothing exceptional. The collard greens had a surprising kick to them but were good; sweet potatoes were excellent. If you have the time to wait, request a booth. We've sat in the loft before and it's just like a normal table in the most upscale "rustic" setting ever. Today we were offered a table immediately on arrival but opted to take a table buzzer and wait the 15min to sit in what was once a horse's stall. Busy place on the next to last day of the Chihuly exhibit. This is in the former stable of the estate. We were actually in the courtyard area because the Stable Cafe was a TWO hour wait and we could get through the line in the courtyard in a matter of a few minutes. The area is paved with the original cobblestones but they're easily navigable with sure footing as you maneuver through. There are plenty of bistro type metal tables and chairs as well as several picnic tables with attached benches. We went through the line for sandwiches and salads. My selection was the pulled chicken BBQ on a bun. The plate came with chips and a quite good slaw. There are three Biltmore wines available as well as tea, water and soft drinks. The meal was filling but the chicken lacked a true, smokey bbq flavor. It seemed that it had been in a hot water bath to keep it warm and tender but again, the flavor was bland. The order takers were polite and friendly. The weather was pleasant so we were comfortable, but a hotter day might have been MOST unpleasant. This was my first visit to the Biltmore so I can't compare it to the other options on the estate, yet. We were coming off of a big breakfast and had dinner plans for our anniversary later in the day so we were just looking for something to hold us over. The menu was pretty well rounded but a lot of the food seem to be HUGE portions. I ended up grabbing a cup of the gumbo, which was VERY tasty. I believe my wife tried the soup of the day.
