A proper steakhouse with a smokehouse aroma as soon as you enter. That sweet smell of wood-grilled meat and the ambiance to go with it. That is once your eyes have properly adjusted to the dim lighting from the brightness of the outdoors. Had made a reservation on a Wednesday night for 5:30pm for my colleague and I. My colleague was running about 15 mins late, so it allowed me to sit at the bar, enjoy a nice old-fashioned cocktail, and have a great chat with Dino, the bartender. I learned about the history of this place, the owner and his team of investors, and other restaurants. Time flew by and before you knew it my colleague had arrived and we were promptly seated at our table. The ribeye was strongly recommended, so I couldn't resist. Who doesn't love a good ribeye steak! It was cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy, and flavors that hyped the taste buds beyond belief. I enjoyed every single bite of that steak, and any tiny portion that couldn't be forked or knifed was taken home for my colleague's dog to enjoy. There is no better treat for a dog! The sides of potatoes and brussel sprouts were great accompaniments to the true star of the show. I left feeling so full and so satisfied. Worth every penny, and it will set you back quite a few. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Highly recommend this place.

My neighbor took me here for an evening, and I am impressed by the dark, cozy atmosphere. Bin54 is a great spot for a date night, anniversary, or other special occasion. We sat in one of the U-shaped booths facing the main dining room. I can smell the wood-fired oven from the parking lot. That smell told me we are in for a special evening. Whitney served us and was pleased to hear that this is my first time to Bin54. I got chattery about their wine glasses and enjoyed two bold reds, one from Italy and another from France. My neighbor enjoyed some well-crafted gimlet cocktails. We shared mussels from their Beginnings selection and ordered two New York Strips. We shared Brussels sprouts and haricot verts. The portions are generous, and the first bite of the steak told me why we pay up for them. The texture communicates the meat quality. The restaurant manager came by to check in on us. I'm pleased that he did. Whitney timed her check-ins well. This is the earmark of five-star service.

This place is one of the best upscale steakhouses in the area! The ambiance inside is dark, moody, and cozy. I came here with a friend for a celebration. They have a great selections of wines that the servers are happy to help provide insight when selecting bottles. Entree wise, we ordered a NY strip steak and the salmon. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and delicious. The sides are ordered a la carte so we shared the mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts. Both which were fantastic. My favorite was the mac and cheese because it was very creamy. Overall, we had a fantastic time at Bin 54 and are looking forward for our next visit.

We had a wonderful experience at Bin 54 Steak & Cellar. This is one of the only non-chain, high-end steakhouses in Chapel Hill. The food, drink, and service were among the best we've experienced in the Chapel Hill-Durham area. This is a locally-owned-and-operated business. It's been around since 2006, so it's stood the test of time. If you're looking for a nice dinner out in Chapel Hill, I highly recommend this place. Book your reservation using OpenTable. I'm a fan of OpenTable because it lets you earn rewards such as restaurant discounts and Amazon gift cards. I used my last two points redemptions for gift cards. It's a nice perk for dining out at no additional cost to you. Bin 54 is located in the small Glen-Lennox Shopping Center on highway 54 (Raleigh Rd) at 15-501 (Fordham Blvd). There's free self-parking in the shopping center's lot. No valet. Every time we've come here, the parking lot has been close to full. This is one of those classic, old-school, white tablecloth steakhouses with formally-dressed staff, some in suits like the general manager (Michael Fiscus, who greeted us when we checked in) and sommelier. All staff wear at least bow ties/neckties. We had a Tuesday 7:30pm reservation. We arrived early and the place was packed and busy. Bar manager Collin Lusty took care of us while we waited at the bar. Here, you have the option of eating at the bar. The interior was dimly lit with different rooms and nooks with seating. My wife and I were seated at one of the two-tops in the center of the main dining room. The way the room is setup, there are U-shaped booths along the perimeter so the folks who sit there look inwards towards the center tables. For a two-top, our table was nice and big to fit everything, but my wife and I were farther apart from each other than we're used to when dining out (a lot of leaning forward to talk; not a big deal). Below is a list of what we had. It should give you an idea on what Bin 54 has to offer and the pricing at the time of our visit. "Beginnings" (Appetizers) * Beef Tenderloin Tartare ($18) - cornichon, capers, shallots, quail egg, potato crisp * Seared Diver Scallops ($25) - cauliflower puree, butternut squash caponata, Calabrian chili agrodolce "Land" (Steaks) * Bone-In Ribeye ($78) - 22 oz. with au poivre vert sauce on the side * Filet Mignon ($55) - 10 oz. with bearnaise sauce on the side "Companions" (Sides) * Mushroom Ragout ($14) - garlic, thyme * Creamed Spinach Casserole ($12) * Truffled Four Cheese Macaroni ($16) Dessert * Banana Pudding ($12) - bourbon pecan cookie, toasted meringue Classic Cocktail * Perry's Terrace-tini ($14) - Absolut Citron vodka, pomegranate liqueur, lemon juice, mint; served up with a lemon twist and topped with sparkling cava * Vesper ($15) - Bombay Sapphire Gin, Stolichnaya "Stoli" Vodka, Lillet Blanc; served up with a twist Special Wine Feature * Portuguese Flight (three 3-ounce pours for $29) - Quinta de Saes, Dao Tinto, 2018 - Fitapreta, A Touriga Vai Nua, 2021 - Asnella, Single Vineyard, 2021 (Vinho Verde) Everything was phenomenal. No matter what type of food or drink it was, it was perhaps the best we've had in the Triangle, from the Scallops to the Banana Pudding. Even the complimentary bread and butter was fantastic. The Beef Tenderloin Tartare and the Seared Diver Scallops were terrific. One thing that stuck out to me about Bin 54's Beef Tartare was the potato crisps. Presumably housemade, they were really good. The Scallops were incredibly flavored and the meat itself was fresh and succulent. The steaks were A+. We ordered both steaks medium rare and they came out perfect. All aspects of the steaks were on point, from how they were seasoned and cooked to the meat quality. The au poivre vert and bearnaise sauces were housemade and excellent. The sides were amazing too. My wife and I love mushrooms and the Mushroom Ragout hit the spot. The mushrooms were super tasty and had very appetizing textures too. Both the Creamed Spinach Casserole and the Truffled Four Cheese Macaroni were rich and addictive. Generous portions. I loved everything about the Banana Pudding, from the toasted meringue on top to the cookie crumbles inside (my favorite part). This may have been the best Banana Pudding I've had anywhere. The cocktails were strong and delicious. The wine was superb. Our server Brandon was great. This business runs like a well-oiled machine. They got all the details locked down. If I recall correctly, Brandon used to be the bar manager at Cucciolo Osteria in Durham. The executive chef, Kevin Draper, came over from Fearrington House in 2009, so no surprise why the food is exceptional here. Bin 54 is part of the Giorgios retaurant group, named after founder-owner restaurateur Giorgios Bakatsias. At the time of writing this review, there are 16 Giorgios restaurants, 15 of which are located in the Triangle. In Chapel Hill, Kipos Greek Taverna and Osteria Georgi are also part of the group.

32 oz. Prime Porterhouse, unevenly cooked
    Jessica L.

Bin 54 unfortunately did not meet expectations. The food was mediocre from the very beginning. Generic room-temperature bread and butter. The mussels were pretty bland with sauce that just tasted like seafood water. It came with greasy, overly buttered bread and no bowl to discard the shells in, so we had to just pile them onto our little bread plates. The lobster gnocchi looked sad, was also not very flavorful, and had limp overcooked and shredded up pieces of lobster. All the food was lukewarm. The $120 porterhouse that we requested medium rare was cooked extremely unevenly with a soft rare middle and overcooked grainy edges. At least there were some medium/medium rare pieces somewhere along that spectrum. The outside had some burnt edges and yet no sear or crust. The whole steak was sinewy and felt like a low quality cut of meat. The only saving graces were our server who did just fine and the wine which was pretty good. Overall, the meal was nothing to write home about, *especially* not for the prices they're charging. Bin 54 only gets 2 stars because at least the food was edible.

I've been to many a steak house throughout the country and this ranks very high up there--just as good as the very best. Perfectly spiced and seasoned and cooked plus tender porterhouse. Mashed potatoes were smooth and velvety with the right hint of garlic and butter. Desserts were stupendous! Service was great but then it took us a bit to get our check and that was very annoying. Thankfully I had awesome company and lots to talk about! Ambiance was classic steak restaurant with lots of wood and deep red decor. I'll be back!!!!

The reservation was made on open table. We dined in for NYE, and there was a short wait to be seated. I have fallen deeply in love with Bin54. My friend and I split the 22 oz ribeye. So flavorful and delicious. The best steak I have had all of (2022). Everything we ordered at our table was top-tier in taste. I love that Bin54 has a sommelier available to provide expert knowledge. I believe my friend ordered the Vouvray, which my friend loved. It was her taste for white wine. I'm more of a red fan, so I opted for a French 75 and a dirty martini which were both delicious. The service here was impeccable and as expected for fine dining.

My boyfriend and I came to Bin 54 for a birthday dinner. The ambience was super classy, dark, and intimate. There were a lot of people when we came, so I'm glad we had a reservation. We ordered the calamari, foie gras mousse, 6oz filet mignon (medium rare), duck fat roasted potatoes, and banana pudding. I'm a huge lover of calamari - the dish was super delicious and well seasoned! The foie gras wasn't my favorite - I also never had that dish before so that may also be why. The filet mignon was super tender, juicy, and delicious - though, I've never had my filet sliced like that before. The duck fat potatoes were really delicious and well seasoned. The banana pudding was amazing! I'm normally the type to go for a chocolate cake over a banana pudding, but I'm SO glad I tried something new! Overall, we had an amazing experience at Bin 54 and will definitely return for our next special event! I also can't wait to get another banana pudding!!

Service was great, could not have been friendlier or more attentive. Also did a fantastic job of celebrating an event for my daughter. The steak was very tasty and cooked to the perfect temperature (always the key for a steakhouse) and the crème brûlée was very good. Where I felt things could have been better was on the steak tartare starter, it had very little flavor, which sometimes happens with tartare but is avoidable, and the potato crisps served with it felt stale. The onion rings looked great but were a little soggy and tasteless (though they had the right balance of onion to batter). Overall, a good meal, with a great steak and service and I'd go back.

Probably the best steak I've ever had!! The service was great and accommodating to anything we needed. We were suggested this restaurant and we were not disappointed. This is a must try place in chapel hill!!

We remembered her from a previous visit, and will request her in the future. Cocktails and mocktails were excellent, as was the sparkling wine enjoyed by one of our party of six. We were surprised and delighted to see foie gras on the menu, and it was perfectly prepared, with an accompaniment of blackberry jam. The lamb belly entree was very rich, but cooked perfectly. The vegetarian plate was beautiful and delicious. Celeriac soup and beet salad were both terrific, and the barbecued shrimp were spiced perfectly. Our only letdown was dessert - only one of the 3 options appealed, so we ordered 3 of those (key lime semifreddo) and found them to be beautifully sweet/tart. We'll be back.

Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a rundown of the menu before we ordered. I decided to start with the Cheese Plate, which included 3 different cheeses, buttered baguette slices, jam, mustard, and pickles. I enjoy cheese plates, and this one was great, but I can understand it may not be for everyone. My wife ordered the Red Fish, which had a more Southeast Asian-inspired twist to it. It came over rice and pickled onions and beets, and the flavors were a blend of lemongrass and coconut. The fish was cooked well - nice and tender, not too dry - and the flavors went well together. I ordered the New York Strip, which was delicious - the meat was well cooked, had great flavor, and was a generous portion that was very filling. The only gripe I had was that the char on the eggplant overwhelmed the flavor, so most of what I ate tasted like burnt eggplant. The place is clean and fairly laid back for a more upscale restaurant. If you're looking for a nicer restaurant in Chapel Hill where you might spend a little more, but you'll get great service with interesting food options / combinations, then look no further than Hawthorne & Wood.

The star of the show in my opinion were the hush puppies and the corn and wild mushroom risotto. There were sooo many different flavors that perfectly complemented each other. I was blown away. And the pig cheek on top was incredible. 500/10. Our server made great recommendations! Then-- chaos and heartbreak ensued in the form of a fire alarm. We were forced to evacuate the restaurant as the fire department arrived , leaving about half our meal on the table. After 30 or so minutes of waiting out in the cold (we were apparently the only guests who hadn't paid out yet) our server came to find us. He asked us if we wanted to just give him our credit card information and he would ring us up later, when the fire department gave them the ok, as he understood not wanting to wait around. It broke our heart to leave our leftovers, but we agreed and went to go get the car. Thankfully we are stubborn.. and optimistic to a fault. And by the third time we circled around the block, the fire truck was pulling away. I ran in and asked if there was any chance our food hadn't been thrown away yet, and it hadn't! The staff was happy we had been able to come back, and they packed everything up for us, even taking the hush puppies off the bill and sneaking in a complimentary piece of key lime pie. I'm so glad we were able to tip our server appropriately for his great service-- and rescue our leftovers. Happy ending. All was well. Service was outstanding from start to finish, attentive, informed, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. Let's get into the food, because this was one of the most exciting and consistently excellent meals we've had in a long time. We started with They Might Be Tostones, a clever and beautifully layered dish with Murasaki sweet potato, lime-pimentón crema, and chili crisp. It was punchy, bright, and balanced. The Warm Rustic Baguette with whipped butter and sea salt may seem simple, but it was divine, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect for lingering. Dirt Candy, a medley of seasonal vegetables with toasted pistachio ail lade, was vibrant and thoughtfully composed. The Big Eye Tuna Carpaccio with red miso-citrus bagna cauda and delicate shoots was fresh and refined, with a perfect acidity and richness. We moved on to heartier plates like the Ricotta Gnocchi with Italian sausage, peppers, whipped ricotta, broccoli rabe, and chili flake. The gnocchi were pillowy and deeply flavorful. The Kabocha Squash & Farro with lump crab, pancetta, and miso butter was savory, slightly sweet, and full of texture. The Pan Roast with flounder, mussels, fregula, and smoky shellfish sugo was bold and briny, with layers of flavor in every bite. Two pasta dishes also stood out, the Ravioli di Manzo with Barolo-braised beef and Parmigiano was rich and comforting, while the Plin Piemontese, filled with pasture-raised pork and finished in crema di parmigiano, was elegant and silky. For dessert, we shared all three options and each one brought something different. The Citrus plate with steamed lemon pudding and lemon curd was light, tart, and texturally playful. The Cheesecake with maple mascarpone and cranberry compote was creamy, nutty, and not overly sweet. But the star was the Chocolate Fondant, extra dark, gooey, with salted caramel gelato and hazelnut crumble. An absolutely unforgettable finish. OakLeaf is a standout. Every dish felt thoughtful, seasonal, and beautifully executed. We will absolutely be back.

We continue to love this place, and we've never actually dined in the dining room. (have never…read morebeen able to get reservations, and believe me I've tried. Even a month ahead of time, so good luck). But don't let it stop you if you don't have reservations, just be smart. We've learned to arrive when they open, because the bar and the high-tops in the bar area are all first-come first serve. There are times we've had just drinks and an appetizer/rolls or dessert. Other times we've gone for a full meal. Most recent visit was Saturday before an 8pm show at DPAC, and I heard words that I've never heard before that made me love them even more. "We will hold your leftovers for you until after the show". Uh, big heart for me! And smart for them, because we would not have ordered dessert otherwise, and I would have been sad to have had to waste even a bite of my fave, the roast chicken. Husband declared his "wedge" salad and filet to be perfection, and nothing makes him happier than a couple Dirty Durham's, while I can always find a nice glass of wine. We tried the Apple Crisp for dessert along with a couple coffees, and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The Service was also terrific, as always. Always. And sure enough, my leftovers were bagged up and ready and waiting when we got out of the show. Just when I thought they couldn't possibly get better, they did.

This was my second visit to Nana Steak and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. My first…read morevisit was great, but this visit definitely surpassed it. I arrived as soon as the doors opened at 4pm on a cold & windy Sunday. Dining at Nana Steak was a last minute decision and I didn't have a reservation. The bar area is first come, first served. The actual bar filled up really quickly, but I was able to grab a 4 top table even though I was a party of 1. Nana Steak has an intimate and welcoming vibe and the service is amazing. Jared was my server and he was the best!! I started with the soup of the day, cream of spinach. The flavor was awesome, and as Jared mentioned, it wasn't a heavy creamy soup, it was light and delicious. For my entree I ordered the 6 oz Filet medium, it was cooked perfectly and had the best flavor. I didn't really need a knife it was so tender. For my side, I chose the potato puree (mashed potatoes) and they were like whipped silk, and seasoned perfectly. I made sure to save room for dessert and I'm so glad I did. The chocolate silk pie complimented my glass of red wine perfectly. I ate every bite. I definitely recommend dining at Nana Steak, make a reservation if you can. I hear the cheeseburger and the rolls are both delicacies, they only make a certain amount a day. Make sure you ask your server about the specials of the day that aren't on the regular menu.
