My first time at Bini's Kitchen and I decided to order the Turkey Momos. Service was friendly and quick. Portions were generous for only $7. But I was underwhelmed by the texture and temperature of the dumplings. They were warm, but not piping hot, which is THE only way I eat them, which makes me think that they boiled a bunch and just kept them warm. I also thought the filling was over mixed, so it was too smooth and a little rubbery. Flavors were ok. Maybe this was just a bad experience or bad timing of when I went (before the lunchtime rush), especially after reading the other glowing reviews. Totally delicious! Visited for a solo lunch while the hubby was at a work engagement (I was lucky enough to tag along on his work trip to San Fran) and was so so satisfied. We were staying at the Palace hotel across the street and I'm happy I found this tiny gem on Yelp. I've never had momos before but really enjoyed these tasty morsels. I opted for the veggie kind and they were oh so good. Super tender dumpling (?) wrappers were loaded with yummy savoury veggies and all drenched in a spicy tomato sauce. Very interesting spot with some delicious food. There are no seats here so be prepared to take your food to go. Go early to beat the line. I went with the momo and curry combo. I wasn't the biggest fan of turkey meat in the momo but it was overall satisfying. Also, the portions here are generous and I left full and satisfied. One of the reasons I go into the office (and not work from home), is for Turkey Momos. I am a dumpling fanatic so I might be a little bias. $6 for 8 dumplings is a steal in the heart of downtown. They are located next to the Montgomery Bart Station, next to where all those bikers sit and hang out. Having tried Dumpling Time (roll my eyes), this place is sooooooo (how many o's until you get the point!!) much better. Well luckily for those days, Mongolian, Tibetan, Himalayan food has you covered. It's that melting pot of Indian and Chinese influences that make this food a best of both worlds. Bini's is such a friendly quick service food stand that makes it easy to go back over and over again. The chicken is moist, the curry fragrant, and those momo's are so, so good. I'm in love with the momo (get the reference?). Haha Bini's is a small food stall close to Montgomery Bart Station. There was no line when I went a little before 12pm. I got the Chicken Curry and Momo Combo $10 and 8 Turkey Momos $6. Food prep was quick. Remember to get EXTRA SAUCE. Trust me, you'll want more sauce. Momo's are like Nepalese version of Xiao Long Bao but with no soup inside. It was a very interesting and yummy experience. The curry combo was pretty neat too. Though I didn't appreciate the giant cinnamon stick that I found in my rice but hey, at least i know it's fresh ingredients. The chicken was a little dry but still tasted pretty good with the curry. Once the lunch crowd arrives, your wait will be at least 15 minutes, but it's still worth waiting for! I usually get the chicken ghorka combo with turkey momos. It comes with 4 delicately wrapped dumplings atop of a bed of juicy chicken and rice drenched in creamy tomato sauce. If you're looking for a lighter meal, try just an order of lamb momos. You get 8 of them and they are garnished with the same tomato sauce. The cashier is always super friendly and after ordering, you get your food pretty quick. Everyone's momos are different, not necessarily better or worse, just different. As long as it has a doughy texture, I'm happy because that means I'm not eating basic dumplings. Binita Pradhan's momos are pretty doughy which already gives theirs a leg up on their far-flung competition. She took over the kiosk next to the McKesson building where Zog's Dogs sold ballpark franks and more recently, Street Food Dojo was hawking Korean takeout (photo: http://bit.ly/1ScYoje). The menu is intentionally small as the prep space looks pretty claustrophobic in there: three kinds of momos, a chicken curry burrito (of course), Nepali-style chili and a combo plate. A small kiosk adjacent to the Post street building. The construction occurring makes it difficult to spot but they have a small street sign to point you in the right direction. They do not have an extensive menu, only a handful of dishes. I saw a sign stating they were known for their Momos, a dumpling stuffed with turkey lamb or veggies. I decided to do the Gortha Chicken plus Lamb Momo combo so I could try two dishes in one. The curry chicken comes over basmati rice and it's the same sauce that is used for the Momos. The chicken and lamb inside the Momos were good, however I was expecting more flavor from the sauce. Also, do not let the smaller to-go container fool you, they stuff it to capacity. Caution! Do not order these momos before meeting up with someone because you will smell like deliciousness, especially if you only eat half and store the rest in your bag. These momos do not hide well. I love the turkey momos and the tomato sauce from this place - the food itself I would say is 4.5 to 5 stars depending on how much I'm craving momos. The skin is a great thickness - not too thick it feels like you're eating dough, not too thin everything breaks, and the meat inside is seasoned with crack. I can't help but go here every time I stop by Montgomery around lunch time. The biggest sin is that this place has hours limited to only lunch. One caveat to this though, or well, 2.5, is that this place is a tiny little hut outside of the bart station. It doesn't look like it should be a kitchen. But it is. There's not really seating around the area since they're basically a window. They get a lot of traffic, so to keep up with that, your momos are rarely if ever going to be cooked to order unless you're at a time where they've just cooked a batch. The other thing is that right now, it's next to construction. So don't open your momos near the store unless you want the chance for construction dandruff to drift in. read more

SUCH a good option in downtown SF, near the Montgomery BART station! I dropped by around 11:30 am on a weekday and was met with a very short line that moved quite quickly. I ordered the vegetarian momos (8 pieces, but they actually gave me a few extra) and the vegetarian kwati! First off, I did not expect the portions to be so big and so filling!! The kwati was super delicious and filled with so many different lentils and beans that I actually felt like "hey, I'm eating some good protein!". I really recommend the kwati if you like some flavorful lentil-like soup that's super hearty. The momo's themselves came with the orange red sauce on top and o m g they were so good. I had to pace myself so I didn't inhale all of them at once like kirby. Now the set is good if you want a decent portion of momos, kwati, and rice, but I'm not a giant fan of the rice and decided to just order the soup and the dumplings separately. Frankly, I was unable to finish all the food at once and had a few momos saved for later. There isn't much seating near this place, but it's perfect for when you want to grab something to go. There are a plethora of benches and other areas in FiDi where you can plop down and eat so it's a great option on a sunny day. Definitely check this place out if you want delicious food that will keep your tummy full and your soul happy. read more

Solid takeout lunch place with great vegetarian options! Ended up here with a couple of folks to grab food to go. It's right by the Montgomery Bart station. It's not a food truck but close - you might just miss seeing the place if you walk by. The lines are short, service is quick and food is yumm. I got the Vegetarian combo - it's 4 dumplings with tomato sauce, a portion of flavored rice and a kind of gravy with it. All of them were terrific! I had their momos -- they look just like Chinese Xiaolongbao except with different flavor. I got the Lamb Momos, and they indeed taste very lamb. Meat was tender, not as juicy as Xiaolongbao but still delicious. The hot sauce was a great addition. read more

Much more exciting than the hot dog stand which used to be housed here several iterations ago. Not much Nepalese food in San Francisco, so any new addition is welcome. A pretty limited menu compared to their catering options. Hoping the menu gets a bit bigger as time passes. Nepalito: I get it, everyone that serves some sort of rice and protein is putting it into a burrito nowadays. This configuration felt a bit lacking though. There was tons of rice and ample large pieces of chicken. There was also some not-so-Nepalese pico de gallo (why not use an onion chutney instead?). It probably could have used some of that Nepali Style Chili round it out with beans. Also, the spicy sauce as a bit skimpy so it felt kinda dry with all the rice. It was still good, but it had the potential to be really amazing. Pork Momo: The star of my meal. Slightly thicker dough than most dumplings sold around town. The minced pork was very similar to Chinese styles. But the real differentiator was the red sauce, which had a nice spicy coconut tone that is far superior to soy sauce and vinegar. Mango Lassi: Pretty standard with ample mango, creamy yogurt and spice. I liked that it was cold from the refrigerator without ice (which can steal valuable lassi space). read more

However, their portions are either too small or too big for me. I wish they had a medium size portion as well. This place is just around the corner from work, and we go here once every week or two. Their staff is pretty friendly and I have a slight positive bias towards them because they were part of La Cocina, and it feels a bit more "local". I usually get their MoMos (you get 8 in an order) and Kwati or their combo, which has them both in smaller portions with rice. I really really like their Kwati, feel very rich, bean-y and has a slight spice hit. Their vegetable MoMos have carrot, cabbage, and Tofu and the tomato sauce topping on them make them taste really good. I don't quite understand their pricing scheme (combo vs ordering items individually), but whatever, it's in-range for a lunch in SoMa.
