Tried the pozole and Birria burrito here. The pozole came with a side of hard shell tortillas (as requested) and veggies on the side. They were pretty generous on the meat portion as well. Also enjoyed the Birria, the hot sauce I added definitely had a nice kick to it! I went during a lunchtime rush so it took about 25 minutes to get it, so just be aware it may take some time during busy hours. read more

Randomly found this place looking for pozole. My husband and I Love the pozole here! Had it twice so far! Had a hard time ordering the second time we went in as the two ladies there didn't speak any English. Took awhile but eventually we got to understanding each other. Lol. The place is usually empty while ppl wait for their food. Prices are a bit more on the pricier side but I think for the quality of the food, it's worth it. Over price I went to eat there about a month ago with my girlfriend 2plates 2 drinks + 1 side order about $70 dollars for it. Had high hopes for the menudo. Flavor was good but I don't like the texture of onion and it had sooo much onion. May I suggest just cooking a whole onion instead of slivers everywhere for those like me that like the flavor but not the texture. I was in the area and had a taste for a good pozole, so I Yelped and found this joint. It's located inside of the small shopping center on Van Nuys Blvd. (closest major intersection is Van Nuys and Sherman Way) It is an authentic Mexican restaurant. Unlike many Mexican joints that served menudo and pozole only on weekends, this joint has them everyday! It's not a fancy restaurant but very clean and have plenty of tables. I LOVE their food! We ordered #27 plate which comes with 2 tacos, rice and beans and pozole. They give you complimentary chips and salsa as an appetizer if you eat in. Salsa was spicy and thick. Pozole was big and the meat was so tender. So good! The guy took our order was very friendly and attentive. Too bad I don't live close but I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area! read more

Go for the Caldo Ver di Rez. It's delicious. This is a local "Hole in the wall". Very tidy and clean but not "first date" ambiance. My gentlemen and I loved it. I dare you to finish that Goat. Sometimes a white boy wants some tacos. And most of those times, I don't want that to mean holding both hands daintilly around a glass-like shell while I gingerly bite my "seasoned" ground-beef-esque-filing and iceberg lettuce infused corporate mexiburger. It's possible what I want is to flash back to those days on the outskirts of Cabo, where the little mom and pop taco stand scooped something dark, thick, and fragrant into a pillowtop corn tortilla that was just under the temperature required to deliver second degree burns. Maybe I want to remember that feeling I had holding a Corona in one hand, and shards of goat in the other hand. Peace, tranquility, and just a hint of regret for having eaten a goat. But there's a challenge here. My friends from other places don't understand me. I grew up in San Diego, where the fish taco flocks like the Swallows of Capistrano. Where carne asada burritos and shrimp tacos are just rolling around on the ground, discarded by newscasters and served up by every *bertos you can think of in every mall, gas station, and former-pizza-hut. Not here in LA though. Not in the valley. One has to dig for the right real mexican food. Not baja mexican food, but actual delicious gut-filling tacos. Mexican restaurants are everywhere, but nowhere. Even if you find one, you may not know. Is this the real life? is this just fantasy? Can I walk in here with my 11th grade gringospañol without insulting their culture? I'm here to say, Lupita's Birria is legit. I rolled into this place around 1:00pm after circling the parking lot 3 times to get a spot, and asked for #7. Birria en combo. Throw in a Horchata too. It pains me to tell you, that your faithful reviewer was not able to finish that combo. I filled my three _unbelievably fresh_ tortillas with as much goat-sinew, fat, and stew droppings that I could. This time it wasn't the shell that fell apart, it was my resolve. I think the chips might have needed salt at the beginning, but by the end, they were just right from all of the tears falling into them. The Birria was just holding it together, falling apart for my fork and filling me up faster than a bucket in a Taipei Typhoon. I can't believe I left any on my plate. I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it didn't even matter. I put my fork down. Belch-hummed the Mexican national anthem, and bowed my head in defeat to this sturdiest of stews. The Horchata is amazing, clearly home made, and not full of the usual syrup dominated aftertaste you might be used to from some places. Everything is super fresh here, with crunchy chips, and a nice slow-burn salsa to get you started. But stay away from the chips if you can, because as great as they are, that Birria is what you're here for. Delicious goat stew, served in crazy fresh tortillas, with a nice dusting of onions, cilantro, and lime juice. I'm certain I'll be trekking over to Van Nuys again, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to finish that sweet, sweet, stew. read more

Just got back from having lunch with the coworkers at this place. They have a pretty large selection of Authentic Mexican food. "A" on the window. Not too much to see from the outside, nice n clean inside. Walk up and order type of place. We ordered, Chicharron plate, Birria Plate, Menudo and Pozole. All for of us were not dissapointed! Prices are about $10/person with drink. Best restaurant-bought pozole I've had in quite a while. Tortillas are hand made, waitress came by a few times to make sure we were doing good. Love this tiny, neighborhood Mexican restaurant, totally yummy always have leftovers which I love! They have wonderful homemade corn tortillas that you can order to take home. I get the carnitas burrito with verde sauce and cheese with the rice and beans on the outside... yum, yum, yum!
