I feel bad writing this review because the staff was nice and service was quick, but the food left much to be desired. Malai boti/kabab is supposed to be of a melt in your mouth texture and extremely tender and juicy, but what I got here were dry and tough pieces of chicken. Also, the chicken corn soup had battered fried chicken in it (weird?) and so many other ingredients that the corn, what should be the star ingredient of the soup, became negligible. I am not sure what to say about the chicken ginger, just that I didn't expect it to be so sweet and ketchup-y. Definitely not my idea of a good desi meal. read more

Besides the fact that sometimes if you come a little bit before closing the biryani might be finished, there is no other fault. Definitely recommend calling before to make sure they will have biryani present when you come to eat at the resteraunt it by far is their best dish. The place was packed last night but we got a table in 15 min. We had the paneer chili, special dry goat special and Hyderabad goat biryanis. Meat was tender and succulent. The taste was awesome. It has been a while since we tasted such good food at a desi restaurant. read more

Wow! They know how to spice your meal. The first time we asked for "spicy" it was super spicy and the second time it was a little less spicy but both times were awesome! We LOVE this place and were surprised to find out it is a chain but that does not stop us from ordering from here! Love the house goat and the chicken korma. Their basil naan is wonderful and we love the rice. We tried a different Indian restaurant this weekend because this one was closed temporarily and while the service was excellent the food did not compare. Very good food! Best briyani in SA! Lunch vegetarian special was fantastic. Food was nicely prepared and quite spicy! Special is served in traditional tahlee Food is fresh and clean tasting. I ordered the chef's special (vegetarian) and the chicken tikka masala. They were phenomenal; served in abundance and to perfection. The mango lassi is yummy, not too sweet, and more purée. The naan is perfect, not dry at all and you can choose what you'd like on it (garlic is the best). Sounds weird, but I have a thing with water being awful in most places, and their water is fabulous. I would come back here again. It's not the best place I've been to for indian food. It's really flavorful, but not flavorful enough for me. There's not a lot of meat in the goat curries. The spice is HOT, so be careful if you really don't eat spice. I really wish that the curry was a bit more savory, but the bread is fresh and I will try to come back and try something else. read more

Meh, I wasn't impressed. Got a recommendation for an Indian co-worker to try this place for authentic Indian cuisine, which it might very well be. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, made spicy. I found my dinner to be spiced well, very hot, instead of just medium like typical. However, the sauce for my entree had a dominant tomato base without enough ghee. It just wasn't to my liking at all. Not bad food, but not for me. In addition, the price for my meal was almost $15, and that's seems more expensive than the going market price. Biryani Pot should lower their prices if they want to stay competitive. read more

Ok DISCLAIMER: I did NOT try the food. I walked out because of the lack of cleanliness of the bathrooms and the terrible service. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands before dinner. No soap. No big deal. I told the guy in the front and "soap" was replaced...with another bottle that was about 95% water and 5% soap. WTF? This totally rubbed me the wrong way and gave me the impression that the employees might not hold hygiene in high regard. Stopped by earlier this week and had about 45 minutes before they closed. Person who sat us and person who took our order were extremely rude to us. I was starving so I should've just left after this but my stomach kept me there. I should've listened to my brain and high-tailed it out of there. (I agree with Matthew below.) Extremely rude. I've been to restaurants of different cultures around the world and have NEVER experienced such bad service. If there were an option to choose 0 stars, I would have...not for the service but for what I am about to write. I found a ROACH in my food!!! I rarely find a hair on my plate and 99.9% of the time, brush it off and continue eating. But a disgusting bug on my plate. And I didn't see it right before I started eating. I found it after I had eaten half of my food. I was so disgusted but didn't cause a scene. Do you know what those fools said to me?! They accused me of putting that nasty bug in my food to get a free meal. I have never felt so offended in my life ever. I love Indian food but this experience has left me with a horrible memory. Now, like a Pavlovian response, every time i see Tikka Masala or Naan I will forever be reminded of that nastiness that I encountered here. Was finally able to test out Biryani Pot during Diwali last weekend. Unfortunately my entire container had big chunks of straight up spices. Seemed like it hadn't been mixed in correctly/fully. I wasn't able to eat mine. However, my boyfriend seemed to have a better container of it because he enjoyed his. Hopefully we'll be able to give it a shot at their location soon, and i'll update my rating if it's better in store. read more

I lived in Chicago for three years and as soon as I shoveled that first spoonful of Biryani Pot biryani (chicken) into my mouth, I instantly knew that this unassuming San Antonio dining establishment stood head and shoulders above those overhyped Devon Avenue fixtures (incidentally, don't eat at Sabri Nihari unless you want some sort of indeterminate mouth infection that lingers for weeks). The pakorai were delicious, though it would have been nice to have some imli chutney or raita to go along with it. I didn't dock any points from this review because our party didn't bother to ask for chutney. I'm sure the amiable and solicitous wait staff would have been more than amenable to a request for some sort of liquid embellishment to our appetizer dish. After waiting a reasonable amount of time, our main dishes arrived. We ordered the malai koftai, chicken biryani, and the bagara baingan. The biryani pot was teeming with rice. Each dish hit the perfect notes, and the buttery garlic naan was the perfect option to scoop up all the food on our plates. I also ordered some aloo samosai and chicken 65 for takeout. Both dishes were delicious, even some hours after they were initially prepared. In short, if you want a fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced meal, hit up Biryani Pot and never go to Chicago. read more

Its cozy ambience, and decor are inviting, and the food makes you feel like your having the best possible version of true Hyderabadi cuisine. Go there if u like only spicy food and don't bother about service. Food is decent, but no matter how much they claim to make mild, its always more spicy than regular spice. This happened both times we went there. Customer service needs improving. Servers r busy talking to their friends rather than attend to diners. This was my first time here but as an Indian I can say, it's amazing authentic Indian food! My friend got the House Special Goat Fry and I got the Hariyali Chicken Curry and my tastebuds were in heaven. Be wary that this food is on the spicier side, which may or may not be mentioned by the waiter. If you cannot handle the spice, let them know when you order. Otherwise, very attentive and sweet waiters and great food! I wouldn't be surprised if we both become seasoned regulars. read more

This has to be one of my favorite places to eat in town. Before they got here, finding great Indian food was like finding a needle in a haystack. You can't beat their biryani!
