Caesar salad, house salad, tasty spiritless espresso martini, (half eaten) delicious meatball appetizer
    Conner B.

Wife and I went for their V Day special which cost $95 per person (plus tip, drinks, and parking). So for a dinner that is guaranteed to be over $100 per person, it was a let down. Started with an $18 chocolate old fashioned that had to be sent back because there was no detectable chocolate flavor, and an espresso martini that had a hair in it. Meatball appetizer was great. Salads were mid. Lobster risotto was one-note. Grouper was over-cooked and similarly underwhelming. Finally the dessert (unfortunately not pictured) was basically a cup of passion fruit soup with a single raspberry. Finally, although the restaurant has a cool vibe, we were sat in the back area sandwiched closely to other couples...who were all whispering to each other about the food-price mismatch.

So the two stars are definitely only because the server Ethan was very nice. However, this is the worst Italian American restaurant I've ever been to. The only thing they have going is the ambience and the decor. I always get the same dish when I go to an Italian/anerican spot, the cacio de Pepe. This one came with the largest mushrooms I ever had it lacked pepper, and the chicken that came with it for the up charges laste like it was premade and pre-breaded. I will never go here again. I do not recommend, and the reviews at best were three stars I should've known better. But I wanted to love this place. They have to do better.

We came here for dinner and it was nice. The chicken Milanese was very generously portioned, and the woodfired mushrooms as a side were absolutely delectable. The tiramisu cheesecake and artichokes were good. The server topped off our drinks multiple times and was very kind.

    Calamari- was fantastic!

The location is beautiful. It is in a newly renovated Hilton in downtown Dayton. The bartender was fabulous, she was friendly, fast and the drinks were made well. We had a large group and reservations. The server at our table, Jonah, was great and very attentive. Some of the other tables from our group felt the service was lacking but Jonah took good care of our table. Our food was hot and orders came out timely. The menu did not have any vegan options. There were a few vegetarian options but the offerings could benefit from a few plant based options.

After reading a few other reviews, I was hoping for a better experience at Bistecca. The drinks are fantastic, and we enjoyed the grilled artichoke hearts, the lemon you could squeeze on top made the dish The Burrata I've had so much better the Burrata seemed like an afterthought as they piled too many tomatoes & raw onions & not enough bread to soak up the cheese. Once we finally received our main dishes, risotto and cacio e Pepe was so dry & had no flavor. Also the wood fired smell was overpowering throughout the restaurant. Our waitress did her best as it was a busy night due to event next door. Next time will just have a drink & head somewhere else for Italian.

Arancini felt like cold use a bit more salt and something about the crunch kept me wondering. The burrata was good and the steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. Gnocchi was on point. Definitely a good choice... food was good . Atmosphere was nice .

Pride cake pop, layers of rainbow cake covered in white chocolate! Yummy! Thanks for making us feel so welcome!

Small expensive portions that are just 'ok'. It' is pretty inside and the servers were nice.

So we just walked in, and the host was kind enough to let us sit at the little bar area near the window. I like their ordering system. You have many options --- go up to the cash register and order there, order from the server who comes by your table (or in our case, bar), or use your phone by scanning the QR code. And if you use your phone, each person in your party can do it themselves on their own phone. Regardless, it all gets added to the same order for the same table. Pretty slick. At the end, when it comes time to pay, the app lets you split the check however you want, and you can even see the name of the person that ordered each item. The food was incredible. It's not cheap, and the portions are a little smaller than some might expect at an Italian restaurant. But for us, it was filling enough. I personally had the raviolo, which was delicious. Little did I know that in Italian, "raviolo" is singular while "ravioli" is plural. So I got one giant raviolo on my plate (see picture). I didn't care much for the runny egg yolk on top, but it was as advertised on the menu. All the other food orders were amazing, especially the desserts. I'd definitely come back once my food budget resets.

On my first visit, I ordered a cheese pizza, mozzarella sticks, and the Trio Delight pasta. When I arrived to pick up my order, it wasn't ready, so I had to sit around and wait for a bit. The cheese pizza was very forgettable. I was expecting an excellent wood fired char, and that's not what I got at all. I'm guessing they just use stock photos on their website, which sucks, because that pizza looks great! The pasta was okay. It was better after I reheated the leftovers in the oven. Second visit, I ordered the cheese pizza again, and the bruschetta appetizer. As I said before, the pizza was definitely forgettable. I quite literally forgot that I had even had it before, and I would not have ordered it again had I remembered. The bruschetta... LOADED in onions. I put the leftovers in my fridge, and my fridge and freezer still reek, and I've been breathing fire ever since I ate it. Too many onions, and not nearly enough basil. I would not get the bruschetta again. The pizza and pasta wasn't bad, but I wanted it to be SO much better. It's one of those places that I'm not going to write off completely, but I'm definitely not rushing back there. Just bummed because I wanted it to be better.

Despite being downtown, parking is easy with a large lot out front. The inside decor and atmosphere is awesome. They have vibrant artwork for sale lining the walls. The menu has a great variety, including some vegan options. I had trouble deciding on what to get given the mix of choices. Ultimately, I decided on the chicken parmesan sandwich with jojo fries and my wife got one of the spring specialty burgers. The food arrived pretty quickly. Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a miss for us. For the chicken parm, the focaccia bread was a bit soggy, and the jojo fries were just so-so. I did like the marinara and mozzarella, but overall it left a lot to be desired. My wife's burger was undercooked and quite messy. I'm thinking it may have just been an off day, and I look forward to giving Wheat Penny another shot.
