Meh Went for a Christmas party and sadly I was not impressed. Our party was pretty large and I don't think they're use to cater to such a large group at once. Food took a while to come out and once out we were not served at the same time. Our side of the table had 6 of us, 3 were served, 2 of us waited ten mins and then the sixth person had to wait another few minutes. To be fair, my filet mignon was cooked perfectly but 2 of our party ordered med well and it was pretty rare, so it had to be sent back and we all had to wait some more. We just had the worst experience at bistro 13! Had high hopes from looking at the menu! I'm a full blooded Italian raised by two Italian parents from Italy, and have been cooking all my life great , tasty Italian food from scratch! The food was very bland! I ordered the frutti de mare and was so excited to taste it! The calamari was like rubber the salmon over cooked and shrimp undercooked! Sent it back! Got the seared tuna! Nothing to write home about, risotto hard and had no taste! My husband's plate was very bland as well! He ate the meat which was ok but left the risotto which was tasteless! He was done eating and I was still waiting for my tuna! I ate by myself! The owner never came over to apologize and we didn't get a discount for this whole horrible experience! Recently had a terrible experience when I was accused of asking a waiter to steal from his boss, who is the owner. He actually had the nerve to call my personal cell phone and leave me a voicemail that said I should be embarrassed and that I was a Low-Life F**K. He then repeated it with a text message. He has bragged in front of us that my own father was the man responsible for him opening his first restaurant in Mission Oaks sometime in the early 80's with his then wife and lost everything for reasons I shall not discuss. If my father was still alive, he would turn over in his grave if I shared this experience with him. All I can say is that it was highly unprofessional for a Business Owner to leave such a fowl-mouthed message on my cell phone message. All I can say is, "Shame On You". You may want to consider retiring my old friend and leave our wonderful City if you're going to behave in this matter over me asking for a birthday drink from your waiter who was obviously on something from the time he sat us. He kept asking us if we wanted to order repeatedly even when my brother who was treating me to dinner for my birthday within 2 minutes of him sitting down. Something is terribly wrong in Denmark when you get this kind of service. We patronized this mediocre establishment to the tune of $300.00 for 2 people. We were having a really nice time until this particular waiter who apparently has a bone to pick with me for some reason since I told him we didn't want to order our food shortly after we arrived at 6:35pm. My mistake was that I unfortunately asked for a shot of over-priced scotch and offered him some cash for the two small glasses and said that the Owner would probably give me a glass complimentary for my birthday. I was dead wrong!!!! I had my brother have him put everything on his bill, tipped the waiter 20% and asked for my brother's cash back. Again, shame on the Owner for conducting himself in the manner he did with his total inability to handle a situation properly and professionally but instead came across as a Junk Yard Dog!!! Everyone in the family and very many of my Collegues are in Awe. It's a shame the Owner can care less. What a bummer!!! read more

I love this restaurant! I went there with my husband for our wedding anniversary. It didn't have to be very expensive restaurant but I wanted to go somewhere I normally don't go. When I visited the HP of this restaurant, I intuitively knew this restaurant was good ( I didn't know why but the picture of the gentleman( I think he is owner) on the HP was good. He has nice smile and I could feel positive energy from it) so I decided to try there. The restaurant is located in the area that there are some other restaurants, and very close to the movie theater, Roxy stadium 11. Maybe it would be nice to have lunch or dinner after watching movies. As soon as we got into the restaurant, a waitress and the gentleman (the same as the picture on HP lol ) welcomed us. Inside is decent size and also there are a few table sheets outside. I ordered peach salad, chawder soup, bolognese lasagna and cheese cake ( please see my pictures ) and everything was delicious! I was very full and unfortunately couldn't finished the cheese cake.... And all staffs were very nice and friendly. The service was exactly what I expected. I asked them to take a picture and they were willing to do it and gave us one free cake for our wedding anniversary. Thank you!! I was very happy to chose this place. first time at Bistro 13. I usually wait till my second visit to post either a good or bad review. They don't need a second visit, I already know they are great. First of all this place was recommended by a Friend, I wanted to try it my self but not during this Pandemic time, We still decided to go for our anniversary. We order a bottle of wine, prices are some how reasonable. they have an out side set up and let me tell you the ambiance is extraordinary, the set up its very comfortable and they play excellent music. Our server was very attentive but our Busser was even better I believe His name is Jesus. they brought our bread as soon as we got seated, bread was really good. We order a Ceasar salad, it was very good. We moved on into our main course and just when we thought we had our minds made up the waitress comes out tell us about their specials for the evening, well..... that was a game changer, We ended up changing our minds and going with the specials, Chilean Sea bass and Rack of Lamb. OMG one of the best sea bass I've had, my Wife also agrees, Rack of lamb was great too, the Lamb portion was on the smaller side but it was fine since we ordered appetizers. I ordered a cappuccino, tiramisu and Cheese Cake for dessert. We loved the Cheese Cake, We were not impressed with the Tiramisu for being a homemade dessert. Overall We loved Bistro 13, all the employees make you feel very welcome and even the Manager/owner was very involved with all the customers. We will definitely are going back soon! read more

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Ventura county! From the warm complementary bread to the shrimp salad everything is delicious. My favorite thing to order is the "SALMON BEURRE BLANC" GRILLED SALMON IN A LIGHT BUTTER CREAM SAUCE AND CAPERS SERVED WITH SAFFRON RISOTTO & SPINACH! My mouth watered while writing this. They were able to accommodate five of us outside on the patio for lunch on a Friday ... with only 15 minutes notice. I had a special menu item: salad with salmon peaches walnuts mozzarella and balsamic ... it was amazing! Tonight was my second time doing take out at Bistro 13. I ordered what I did last time which was the Chicken Piccata and the Salmon both of which were good. But, the salad that came with both of these entrees were simply unacceptable particularly considering the $74 price tag on two entrees. The leaves of these two Cesar salads looked like something found at the bottom of a restaurant kitchen's garbage can. I will no longer order food from there. I shall stick with Slate which is 500 feet away. read more

My wife and I had an amazing dinner this evening at Giovanni's Bistro 13. A wonderful ambiance with Sinatra, Bennett and some old favorites playing in the background and food served to perfection. The filet mignon and sea bass were scrumptious and the taste was fantastico. Prior to the entree I had the minestrone soup and my wife had the salad with fresh baked bread...oh so good. Giovanni, Jorge and the other servers and hosts were amazing, my apologies for not taking everyone's names. Their smiles and outstanding customer service is certainly to be commended. The malbec was perfect and my wife loves her apple martini. To finish off the wonderful evening meal we chose to try their homemade tiramisu which was delicious as w shared the experience. Of course I had a terrific cup of coffee and yes we took 3/4 of the tiramisu back to our humble abode. On the way out we had a pleasant chat with Jorge. the hostess and the owner Giovani. A real taste of italy and a blessing. Thanks for a wonderful evening and we hope to visit again very soon. Wish I could give it more stars!! Very knowledgeable about gluten free which is so nice when you have to eat gluten free because of celiac disease. We were told they make the minestrone gluten free so all their guests can enjoy it. Everything was delicious! I'm serious - everything was very good! My non-gluten free daughter had a wonderful meal too. She thought the tiramisu was the best she's ever had! I had the pistachio gelato for dessert. Yum! We sat outside on the lovely patio area. Made a reservation over the phone for a party of 7 - they confirmed it 15 mins prior to arrival and said "patio seating". When we arrived, an older guy with gray hair led us out to the parking lot where there grass and a large tree - they had a table out in the front lawn in the parking lot, under a Tree. Lol. I told the man, do you have "patio seating"? That's what I reserved. They did have a large patio and many people were seated in the patio. But the man, shook his head and just walked away rudely - saying no no no, this is it. No apology. No offer to give us "patio seating". Nothing. Just walked away - unacceptable. Our party of 7 was left stunned. We had to make last minute reservations at Lucerne Italian (very good). As a small business owner myself, I would urge people to go somewhere else where they respect your business and treat you with respect. read more

Ok, if your looking for Italian food, don't go here. Starting off with the bread. Well it wasn't really bread, more like a biscuit. Growing up Italian I can say I've never had that before. I like bread and couldn't even stomach 1 piece. I ordered from the wine by the glass menu and although reasonably priced the first 2 glasses seemed like they were sitting in the sun for days. I rarely reject but for $11 I want a little more than swell. For my entree I had the veal shank daily special with a cup of minestrone soup. Guess what? The soup was so bland that even salt pepper and cheese couldn't wake it up. The veal came with risotto or so the say. It was more like rice and cheese. Sad to say that it was the highlight of the dish. It also came with spinach that was so over powdered with garlic that with 1 bite I feet safe from vampires for a long, long time. The veal shank wasn't bad in itself but it had tomato sauce that tasted like it just came out of a number 10 can. Not to mention it was so hot temperature wise I suspect it came out of cold storage and right into a microwave. Needless to say 1 start. read more

Bistro 13 is such a wonderful restaurant to dine in. It was our first time here and we were met with such a warm welcome from the team. We ordered a Mushroom Risotto w/ filet mignon (front) and gnocchi w/ Pollo Marinato and they also served us with freshly baked bread, soup, and salad. You're able to choose which you would like between the two, but the salad was the bomb.com. Everyone is so sweet here, and our busser, Jesus, was so funny!! Jesus was so very sweet with us, and I wish I lived closer to Ventura so I could enjoy this charming restaurant much more often. 5/5 for sure. Love love love! I've only dined here once and had the chicken piccata. Perhaps it was a bad night for this dish as I went here because overall the reviews were good. The chicken piccata was bland, had no taste and the sauce used was a light, soupy, cream sauce, not the traditional lemon-olive oil sauce. Further, they used a thick piece of chicken, instead of thinner, pounded chicken. I did not like it at all. Also, underneath the chicken was a plain angel hair pasta (no sauce on it) and it was over cooked (not Al dente). The side of vegetables was too crunchy (undercooked) and they too were bland; no herbs, salt or pepper were used on them and they had no taste to them at all. The bread was great and the minestrone soup was good and full of vegetables. Overall, I was disappointed and expected authentic Italian food as I read the owner was from Italy. Had our waiter come back to ask how the meal was, I would have sent my meal back, but he never came back to ask us how our food was. I tasted my husband's entree (potato gnocchi) it was not great either. The pasta was stiff and tasted store-bought. The sauce was okay but not great. The staff were friendly but the food (at least our two dishes) is overpriced for the caliber/quality and not authentic Italian as one would expect. read more

Food was excellent as always and service was great. My beef is that I ordered a bottle of wine I really wanted. It was a 2015 Conondrum. When the waitress opened it, she showed me the bottle and by the time she carafted it I discovered it was a 2020, like anything I can get at Vons. I told the waitress and after 5 minutes she said oh!. We forgot to change the menu. I was quite upset. We kept the wine and asked her to speak to the owner. I expected some kind of consideration after paying almost $50 for the wrong bottle. The waitress told that he will fix the menu. She said he would come by the table to discuss. He never did. My wife got upset when I went to ask him so the issue never was resolved unless you call the resolution, me paying for for a 2020 and not getting my 2015 or any consideration. Years back I had a very positive experience with this restaurant. So, I convinced my wife it was the perfect place to celebrate her birthday. It was close and had a 4 star rating on Yelp. Unfortunately, the dining experience was not a good one. It was a nice evening and the weather was just right. After that, the dinner started downhill. Our table was infested by small swarms of flies...which we told the waiter about. He basically said it was to be expected if we dined outside. Then the bread arrived...one of the positive memories I had when I dined there in the past...unfortunately, the bread now served there, no longer chewy and like the Italian bread normally served, it had the consistency of pound cake and crumbled too easily. Then came the very expensive dishes (average $26 each) and very small portions. I then told the waiter my wife was celebrating her birthday. He acknowledged and said they would provide a dessert for her. 15 minutes pass and the waiter had not returned. We had long finished our dinner and the table had been cleared by another waiter. So...we got up to pay for our bad experience. The food was delicious, but the overall experience had tainted the moment. read more
