Usually I refer to Yelp before eating anywhere. This was one exception. We were walking near Mallory Square at noon and spotted the bistro. It is a great spot to watch people and the waterfront. Service was prompt and courteous. My wife ordered a turkey club sandwich with a pasta salad. I ordered a kale salad with gazpacho. I chose Bistro 245 at the Opal Key Resort because it's right on the water and perfect for viewing the sunset near Mallory Square. Lots of tables with umbrellas outside so you can enjoy the view. Our server was Lytton, who was very friendly and engaging. My family of five started out with cocktails. I had a refreshing Paloma. My family shared the seared yellowfin tuna and the lobster quesadilla appetizers. For dinner, my daughter and I ordered the lobster quesadilla (again) and the southernmost crab cakes appetizers and split those. That lobster quesadilla was so good that we ordered it twice! The rest of the family ordered NY strip, the Cuban classic sandwich and the yellowtail snapper. All were enjoyed. The only negative I can say is that service was slow once we ordered the food, otherwise we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. If you want a nice view of the sunset sitting by the water, I recommend Bistro 245. read more

Found this place based on location and sunset views. But the menu was lacking and way over priced for a "bistro" that was playing baseball on their TV's. $30 for chicken, $50+ for fish and steak. It was also lacking any vibe and very hot inside. the service was good. But overall I would not go back. read more

I want to be clear - this isn't fine dining like the prices want you to believe. This is a glorified Applebees that just got lucky by having a location on the water. From the first very unappealing bite of the flatbread, if you want to call it that, to the service that makes you feel like you are in a rush, to the very cold garlic potatoes that arrived with the meals (how are they so cold....in the heat...). Bistro 245 is located along the water on a quieter, but not at all remote, section of the waterfront. The outdoor seating was pleasant, not too close to the other tables. (Only complaint is that the umbrella base was so big there wasn't a comfortable place to rest our feet under the table). Our server was very attentive without being overbearing, and the whole staff did a great job. My husband said the lobster tail that was on his Gulf Shrimp and Lobster Fettuccine was one of the best he has ever had and loved the entire dish. I thought my crabmeat stuffed snapper was extremely well prepared. Not at all bready, and not dried out. The espresso creme brûlée was a real winner and the key lime pie was good, but I prefer it with a stronger lime flavor. We also had the lobster quesadillas and the crab cakes which were both excellent. For dinner I had the tuna sashimi appetizer which was average compared to what I've had in the past. Truffle crusted grouper is what my husband ordered and said it was delicious although he didn't taste truffle. My daughter had the lobster tail and said it was great. Birthday dinner! We enjoyed a scrumptious dinner with mahi, snapper, and lobster. They made a special birthday plate for us to enjoy with key lime pie. Bistro 245 is located at the Margaritaville Resort. We've stayed at the hotel several times but I've only had breakfast at the restaurant, no lunches or dinners . All of the foods we've ordered were good, but you definitely pay for the convenience of walking right downstairs to grab a bite. For example, $12ish for a bowl of oatmeal is a bit steep in my book. This restaurant is located on the waterfront with premium views of the sunset and is just off Mallory Square. After enjoying some of the street entertainment, we got seats to the best show in town and just watched the sun end it's day as we sipped on some nice drinks and ate a wonderful meal. The food was pretty good. I had a grouper that was excellent and the remainder of my party seemed to like their dishes. But, what is not to like when the view is spectacular. Get there a little before sunset as seating outside is first come first served so you might need to send an advance party to get a table or miss the end of the show at the square. Been here two years in a row down in Key West. Never had an amazing experience but never really a bad one either. We sat at the walk-in outdoor area for a better view of the sunset with our larger party and placed our orders, but were disappointed due to our tables being dirty and us rarely seeing the waiters. Our waters were empty for half of the dinner and we waited a whopping 35 minutes for our food. Having a long drive ahead of us, we were hoping for quick service, but clearly that was not the case. The restaurant didn't seem busy at all, and no one came to our table to tell us why the food was taking so long. Extremely disappointed. The waiters also appeared frustrated that we had asked them how much longer we would have to wait. However, the food itself was very good. The shrimp and lobster fettuccine was great, the grouper was a hit, and the snapper was also very good although it doesn't taste like you'd expect (if that makes sense). I got the mahi and my husband got the yellowtail snapper. I can't speak for him, but mine was literally the best meal I've ever had! The lemon caper sauce was to die for. Mac and cheese was homemade. We stumbled upon this ocean front restaurant while watching the sunset. It has a perfect location with plenty of seating. We were seated immediately right on the water. The waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. I had a frozen strawberry daiquiri and my husband had a land shark beer. Both were cold and served promptly. We then ordered the crab cakes. They were fresh and hot with a crispy coating. The dipping sauce was smeared on the plate and had great flavor. We just visited Key West for the first time and of all of the many amazing restaurants, this was probably our favorite! It's a great ocean view, staff is friendly and place is clean. They also have private bathrooms. We ate or just had drinks four or five separate times. All of the food is amazing! I highly recommend the sesame ahi tuna; best we had on the island!! The view is slightly obstructed because of the daily cruise ship, but they leave at 4 or 5 each day. read more
